[Q] Upgrading from xt910 404 stock to CM10.1 - Motorola Droid RAZR

Followed the instructions on the main page of official CM 10.1 & ended up with a bootloop. Wiped caches and user data over & over with no change, so I'm about to downgrade back to 4.0.4 using RSD lite. I'm still determined to get to CM 10.1 on this device though but how do I do that now?
I saw "setting 2init" but I can't make any sense of what it means or how I can make use of it.
While trying to figure it out, I found the guide to upgrade to official JB but the JB OTA file it points to is for the xt912 (I'm using the xt910).
NOTE: I'm not going with the official JB, but it is the only other comprehensive guide I could find for upgrading from 4.0.4.
How do I get CM 10.1 on this phone now?

After flashing the CM10.1 and the 4.2 gapps, you also need to flash the the patch here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1737046&d=1361096282 by whirleyes

it seems to have made things worse. before I had the "infinite cyanogen logo". now I keep getting screen off & the Motorola logo

its that mean you had bricked it?

No. thankfully I can still get to recovery & fastboot

Make sure you install it in second system, your razr will bricked if you install on the first system
And also, make sure you wipe cache/dalvik cache before flashing and factory reset(if you are going to install a other rom) . You need to format /system and wipe cache/dalvik if you are going to update cm10.1 to a new nightly .

Yea.... I never saw this and it's exactly what I've done. Downloading the original ICS roms from it's country of origin to see if I can restore right back to factory settings. I can still go into Recovery mode & I installed the rom to the 2nd slot but I'm not getting anything.

Maybe because of the kernel?? Make sure you dowloaded the cm10.1 for gsm and not for CDMA and also not for the Jelly bean kernel. Can you boot to the first system, which is the stock ROM?

You are now using the official cm10.1. and why does your first system is gone? its dangerous, dont leave it like that, make the stock rom as a backup if something happens at the other system
the reason its showing nothing when you booted your phone is becuase you have wiped you first system! so now i recommend you to factory reset in the stock revocery and flash the 672.180.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU firmware at this link : http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...SPDRICSRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip
so you can get the jelly bean leak without erasing your cid (not for the xt912). after that, you can install cm10.1 . The tutorial are here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192532

I literally just finished using RSD Lite to reflash a new ICS rom back onto stock slot. So I'm safe. I'll be working with slot 2 now.
So TheMrcool212 you're saying to use the tutorial to pave the way for CM 10.1? Does it matter that my device is from the UAE?

yes, because the recovery is installed on the first system, if your device is from UAE, its just doesnt matter, but i recommend you to flash the European firmware so you can get the jelly bean leak

I couldn't find the "set 2-init" option in BMM so I skipped it and CM 10.1 is working just fine (installed with bmm) :good:
dont forget to flash whirleys "why we have to...zip" file after flashing cm10.1

Help Galaxy S2 won't boot after updating to CM9 R2

Hi I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. Android v4.0.4 LQ7
I am a noob so sorry if my question is stupid.
I have rooted using method 1 in that thread and it worked great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
Then I downloaded the app ROM Manager and downloaded CM9 RC2 since it appeared to be a stable.
I used ROM manager to download the file cm-9.0.0-RC2-galaxys2.zip
Once downloaded I saved that file in the external SD Card and used ROM Manager to reboot in recovery mode and install the ROM.
The installation progress fine and complete. I then reboot my phone.
When rebooting the phone displays the Samsung galaxy S2 screen and then switched to Cyanogen (mod) 9 screen. From there nothing happens. The phone won't boot. I tried to removed the battery which is the only way to turn the phone off and reboot in recovery and reinstall the file but the same thing happens.
Please help!
You've probably installed wrong zip for your device/variation.
Specifically which GS2 have you got?
Did you wipe date/factory reset?
Try wiping before and after flashing?
Get the CM9 nightly and flash that instead or try flashing Siyah kernel over the one that is on your device now. I personally use Goo Manager from market as you can download/update/notifications and browse compatible roms via that.

If you do a wipe/reset it will clean all your installed apps/app data and restore settings to clean install.
Its advisable to do this whenever you are flashing a different rom. Its easy to backup and then restore all your apps automatically and silently (without intervention) in a few clicks after installing new rom with titanium backup (pro).
Reboot into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Install CM9 Nightly from internal or external card.
Install latest CM9 gapps
Reboot system.

Gapps is basically Google apps it gives you the play store and sometimes face unlock. Did you wipe cache and dalvik cache before updating to CM9? That's one of the main reasons why ROMs don't boot up. Also first time boots do take a while about 10-15mins...

Thanks. for that. Do you guys know of a shortcut button to turn the mobile data on or off, like the power button does on ICS?
Also I would like to raise an issue with the ROM Manager App. I cannot do a backup of my current ROM. Every time I try to do so the App freezes. It did the same when I first rooted my phone and I was on the Stock ROM I was unable to do a backup then.
Is this something that happen often with Rom manager?
Thanks

Don't use ROM Manager, due to its incompatibility with most kernels and the S2.
Here's what to do about the short cut for mobile data:
Options –> System –> Notification Drawer –> Widget Buttons –> Toggle Mobile Data
It'll be there at the top when you pull down the drawer, if it's not immediately visible just slide the icons to the side and you'll see it.

You always do backups in recovery mode, Rom Manager (if compatible kernel) simply automates teh process of rebooting into recovery and starting backup.
Depending on your rom/version you can do this via power menu anyway (reboot into recovery).
STOP USING ROM MANAGER!
It can & most likely will fuc& your fone up. If u want to learn I suggest u read all of chainfires posts, then check out the SGSII Bible in the GS2 section. Then get urself the correct tar file for the Cf root kernel specific to ur country or region. That will get u outta the ****e if this ever happens again. Read up on all things root etc. u could do with learning what Odin is too!

Thanks for that. I think I know what Odin is. Thank you so much for that post. You have opened a whole new world! I have opened the SG2 bible I wish I have done that before. I am about to do a back up now. but I have not been able to do a back up of my original stock ROM since I was trying to do it with ROM Manager and it would freeze all the time. I think it is the worse that I could have done I have changed my ROM and didn't not do a back up before. i guess I will never be able to revert back to my stock ROM. Thanks again for you precious advises they have been very helpful!
Naa m8, u can always go back to a stock, u just need to tell me your country & the modem & ROM version, mine was stock Uk 4.0.3 & once you have that you can flash it with Odin then flash the Cf root kernel. you would then be on a totally stock ICS ROM but with root & CWM recovery so you can then flash anything you like. If you give me the country & which ROM (ICS or GB) you would like I can give you the necessary files for Odin.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT flash a stock ROM & stock unrooted kernel as if u do a full wipe it will hardbrick ur fone!
Sent from My Omega powered beast, using Xparent ICS
There's an even easier way....
Go here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608071
then simply download the stock unbranded firmware for your country. it doesn't have to be your specific country but it helps as it has the csc etc that you need. Once you have downloaded it simply flash it with Odin & you will be running stock ICS 4.0.3 but with root so you can then flash CM9, but seriously I would highly recommended Omega v15. It's close to stock but sooooo much more. Im in all day if u need help

Hey thanks for that. I was thinking of doing a back up of my stock ROM in case I wanted to revert back to it one day. I will have a look at that thread and let you know of my phone details too. In that case you will need to flash an appropriate modem file for your device or possibly check APN details.
You can get modem via dev section (use search) and APN settings from your carrier or google.

Safestrap won't let you flash on Non-Safe System. So, boot in recovery and toggle straight into Safe System. It will show you, if Safe System is enabled on top. After that start the installation with all wipes and reboot without toggle back into Non Safe System.

[Q] Rooting

I'm fairly confident i am able to root my device, and follow every tutorial, however i'm stuck with these qeustions...
if i install CF-root first... without cwm and later, install the package that has CF-root + cwm combined.. will this conflict with the earlier installed cf-root without cwm?..

Also, what would happen if i mistakingly did the re-partition thing?..
CF-Root (for the SGS3, anyway - can't comment on other phones) always comes with CWM as it's CWM that actually installs SuperSU etc. on the phone

As your device is already rooted, I would suggest that, there are a few ROMs available on XDA that supports the OTA. you can install them to have OTA available. as in your phone currently OTA will not support because you have just rooted the phone, there are some changes to be done in the system after rooting the phone so that it will support OTA.
Long story short,,,
Install the ROM with OTA support. done... happy flashing...
No you can't get official OTA's now, but you can still download and flash official stock jellybean firmwares and flash them to your phone. Chances are they'll be on xda before you ever get an OTA anyway.
As for repartition in Odin, that will repartition your internal storage and wipe your data and may corrupt your filesystem which -may- be irreversible. Stay away unless told otherwise, some situations call for that to be used but only in emergencies and following strict instructions.
As for the guy above that is talking about OTA's, he is getting confused between official OTA's and custom ROM OTA's.
Some custom ROMs support OTA updating, but it will be a custom ROM.

How do i do this though?.. i mean, if i bootup recovery (cwm) factory reset / wipe data / cache/ and dalvik.. i cant let it reboot and use odin... since 4.1 will still be on it.. do i need to press the hardware buttons when being in recovery to get into download mode instead?.. what's the solution to this...
i hope its not too complicated to understand, i'm not english.

do you have a custom recovery installed? if you do, just flash a jellybean rom. Heres a bunch
Right now I have TWRP and superSU... where can I get the latest firmware update of jellybean and how does it install. Still kind of new at this.

ok you all you need to do is flash a rom. I would recommend one of the latest cm10.1 nightly which you can get here. You will also need a google apps package for stuff like playstore, etc. which you can get here.
Once youve downloaded the two zips (the rom and google apps), copy them onto your phones internal sd. If you have an external sd, then copy it onto that instead.
Next turn off the phone, and then boot into recovery by holding volume down + volume up + power until you see the samsung text.
Now you should be in TWRP. Go to the wipe menu, and then choose: factory reset, system, cache, and dalvik cache
Then go back to the main menu, and from there choose install. Then browse to where you put the rom zip and install it. After the rom installs successfully install the google apps zip.
Finally reboot and you have jelly bean!
Press thanks if i helped

[Q] Need help reverting back to pure stock

Hi guys, I've owned this tab (p4wifi) for a few years now and for sure loads of junk has been building up in it. I've used dozens of ROMs in the past and it seems to be slowing down. Now the slowness isn't the issue, I just want to revert it back to full, pure stock as in Unrooted stock ROM from sammobile with no user data whatsoever. Exactly like the first day I got the tab, no pics videos or anything that I took.
I live in Malaysia so I'll be using this: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=5982
So now the problem is how to exactly go about doing this? I'm currently running CM10.2 with CWM installed and I want all my user apps, photos and videos gone too, like everything. I understand that i have to boot in Download Mode and use ODIN to flash that ROM image, but hat are the steps before or after that I have to take to remove all my user data? Would really appreciate it if I could have a step by step procedure.
Thanks alot guys

well before flashing the KERNEL image....
it is not quite necessary to totally wipe the phone..
bt to ensure a clean install it can be done...
while.... since u want to return to pure stock.... it is better to first restore your first cwm backup which u made just after rooting.....
coz flashing a kernel wont remove the custom scripts bt only disable it.....
so wat i say is... first restore ur just-after-root cwm bakup.... after that flash your kernel which u will download from sammobile. com.
and then u will have a pure stock unrooted phone like in the beginning

OK I will try. I'm running CM10.2 a custom ROM so can I use the factory reset option in system settings? Because CWM wipe data doesn't wipe a lot of things :/

yes you can use the factory reset and it will wipe everything.... from cache to dalvik cache to data..
the system folder and some other folders will only be intact as they contain the rom related files....

Do this:
1. Wipe data/factory reset in cwm
2. Wipe system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Wipe internal memory or sdcard or /data/media (I forgot what its called in cwm)
Then boot into download mode and Odin flash the stock ROM.
FYI, the other guy was wrong, sammobile offers ROMs and not kernels. And, HEY, I'M FROM MALAYSIA TOO!

Thanks both of you Woohoo fellow Malaysian on this legacy tab. Sweet thanks for the detailed procedure, I'm guessing step 5 is the one that wipes all photos and videos? Because normally 1-4 just wipes user apps. Will try it after having my stuff backed up How is the UI smoothness for you on this tab? Just wondering if I'm the only one who feels that mine is very sluggish.
actually, Toldo's stock rooted ICS rom and Omni Kitkat rom are both smooth.

Yup that's the one that wipes everything. Sometimes the tab feels sluggish, depending on what i use it for, like heavy multitasking and such, but overall its pretty smooth. BTW, I'm running SlimSaber 4.3 on my tab. I feel that 4.3 gives the best performance for our tab and 4.1(pershoot's cm10) is the most stable.

If you're going to revert to pure stock, just flash official firmware via ODIN. Boot into stock recovery and factory reset. It will also wipe the contents for internal sdcard.
.......
just use odin

Yeah hahaha.
How about kernel wise? Which is the best kernel out there for this tab? Would prefer a ekrnel that allows "powersave" and "performance" mode in trickster mod :3

On stock ROM? I'd recommend A1 kernel or Yoda kernel. Yoda kernel is quite outdated and doesn't contain the l2_hsic wakelock fix if you have the 3g version, but its pretty good. A1 on the other hand, is a fan favourite. Both have performance governors and if I'm not mistaken also powersave governor, but honestly I've never tried trickster mod so I can't tell you that.

Thank you sir, great help so far heh. I ended up flashing the rooted deodexed stock ROM i found in the forum but after flashing I chose to disable stock recovery flash, does that change anything? My first boot wasn't successful so I went to reflash the ROM again in CWM and it got stuck in "Opening update package". I restarted the tab and it booted up normally. Is the stock ROM interfering with the custom recovery? :3

Did you do the usual wipe before flashing? And also what version of cwm are you using? Try using this version of TWRP by kasper_h.

To answer your question, I don't think it changes anything, but saying no to stock recovery flash seems to be the right way to go. And no, stock ROM does not interfere with the custom recovery.

It's alright everything's working now Now another problem popped out I wiped my internal memory which means all my photos and everything non system related, and it did, my tab was practically empty buttt the tab doesn't register it as that ._. The storage part in settings shows that I have used up like 12GB of space even though I have wiped everything clean, I did an SD card folder analysis with ES file explorer and although it showed the same 12GB used, the folders shown do not add up to that, could it be the indexes are not updated? Because I don't see anything that could be eating up all that space

If the sdcard is empty, that means something is hogging your space somewhere in /data. What version of Android were you on before and now?
