I was trying to change icons of status bar in my rooted Neo with android 4.0.04 using NinjaMorph, I replaced (using copy paste) a lot of Icons (battery), the app made the apk and said that everything ok (I didn't applied zip), but the status bar didn't disappeared as it should be, even so couple programs stopped working, after rebooting nothing happened! but for may surprise, after decompiling Framework-res.apk the new icons are really in it in drawable-hdi folder! It's really strange, what I did wrong and why android doesn't use this file? I tried this couple times and erased Davilink cache but in vain, any ideas?

I mean really ... how hard it is to understand the diference between the THEMES & APPS section with the Q&A section ?
Q & A means question & answer.
Go there ... ask and you will have your answer. Here the only thing you managed is to report the thread and bother one admin to move it to the correct place or delete it.
In case anybody will need it, the actual icons that needs to be replaced are in SystemUI.apk, also note that Ninjamorph doesn't decrypt XML files, so except the icons you really can't change anything else with it.

Hey all,
This is a black notification bar for Dj Steves froyo 1.0 only and blue wifi icon as the stock is black. Will need root and root explorer or alt file explorer.
1. Download notificationbar1.0.zip.
2. Extract services.jar and framework-res.apk from zip to SDCARD.
3. Backup current framework-res.apk and services.jar in /system/framework.
4. Mount /system/framework as RW, and copy services.jar then framework-res.apk from step 2 into the folder.
5. After file copies, phone will reboot and you will have black notification bar and new wifi icons and white text!
To restore old services.jar and framework-res.apk, simply perform same steps except copy over the backed up files.

Just a quick question! How did you made the AWD's Dockbar and the icons in it so big??

I actually switched to Launcher pro. Lot more options and I like the interface alot more than AWD.
The other part is changing density on the screen back to 160. This is in the build.prop and need to change the line ro.sf.lcd_density=160.
Nice work mate keep it going
Ok as promised I have added white font to the notification bar. Right now when you receive a text or plugin usb the message is in black font. I set it to white but some other file is overriding. I'll post another update when I have it settled.
I'm going to try this now, thanks.

Great little mod but ive figured out that it stops flash from working in the browse for some reason. Reverted back and all fine. Would love it if flash worked too

I am running the first update-new, old base band. The thing is though, the two files should have no effect on flash. Tonight I am going to be installing the update-newv2 and will see what difference that makes. DJ_Steve has not added flash into the rom nor has he modified either framework-res.apk or services.jar.
So in your words "just says install latest flash" and did you install flash again? Is it throwing an error when trying to reinstall flash?
i get a link to install flaelsh instead of the flash animation. I click it and it redirects me to the market place where strangely i have to log back into my google.mail. Then it just shows uninstall so i do that then reinstall it and still no flash.
Didnt think those files would effect flash until someone mentioned the same problem, both of us reverted back to the original files and everything ok again.
Have noticed after first boot when changing files all my widgets dont work straight away and orignal wallpaper etc is back. Also have to log back into google.mail sync etc.
Will have another go and reboot a few times to makes sure because i really like this mod
Edit: working now, rebooted after uninstall and bebooted after reinstall, great mod just need the bottom menu in black now to finish it off. Cheers for the help

I was poking around in there for based off another thread but this is the thread i am looking for thanks!
Also I was able to recreate the flash problem after updating to v2. It seems on Steve's new v2 that once reinstalled flash still dont work. So this problem only affects those on the new v2, anyone using the first update-new should be ok to reinstall flash and continue streaking. I will get this solved shortly and look into meltus' thread for the rest of the font color.
Interesting its working fine now on v2. Follow all the steps. Then copy over services.jar one more time and power cycle phone. also make sure system, and framework are mount RO after copying the files.
The culprit seems to be services.jar. For whatever reason it doesn't play nice with the new build.
I had some guys on irc test this. Both on v2, one guy had no problems with flash after following steps. Other guy had the flash problem. He fixed by uninstalling flash, reinstalling flash, reboot phone and testing flash again.
Thanks homeiss and egrouse for testing!
Awesome thanks, I had just finished moaning about the ugly taskbar in the Froyo beta when I found this. The taskbar looks great, just needs some work on getting the rest of the text white, and get the icons looking like a set. Though would be great if the whole pulldown was dark or grey to match if possible. Installed fine on my Streak, reinstalled flash from the market and all is good.
Really appreciate the work quikt.

Awesome, looking forward to it.
can anyone make a transparent status bar ?or do you know a guide and i`ll make one myself ,didn`t find one. i want for sense .
Manual method :
1. Pull the framework-res.apk from /system/framework
2. Extract the apk and find the drawable MDPI/LDPI which there is a many icons
3. Find all status bar icon
4. Edit in on Photoshop or any editor
5. Change the opacity to 50-80%(0%=Blank no status bar LOL )
6. Copy the png to the apk(ZIP not the extracted one)
7. Push it to /system/framework
8. REBOOT and PRAY
actually it's the basic method and old method without theme choser
don't forget to backup the original framework-res.apk or NANdroid Backup
blank status bar is good, shows only time and others status but what about metamorph ?anyone with photoshop wants to do this ?my laptop is not powerfull enough ,the rom is wildpuzzle so you can download the framework apk from there.
Look for the 2 Sense Themes - WildDazzler and AeroFire (It's listed in the Theme Thread, Just search for it). Both descriptions state they have Transparent Status bars, so, you can just take it from there, if you do now want to have the entire theme.
flashed them both and they are ugly
If you read completely what I wrote above, you can use the Status bar files from them, if you are unable to modify it yourself.
Well auleu let me know what you have in mind and i'll give it a shot
Like 3xeno said if you want to try it for yourself just edit the framework-res.apk by unzipping it, going to either LDPI, MDPI, or HDPI (doesnt apply since this is Wildfire).
Edit the status_bar_backround.png and any other status_bar_* related items.
Once done go to the root of the folder, select all and say send to zip. Make sure your file extensions arent hidden. Rename it to framework-res.apk
Now you have 3 options,
1. access phone through recovery using
adb shell, mount /system, cd /system/framework/, rm framework-res.apk, exit.
Then cd to your edited apk and then
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
reboot (dangerous option, try only if you sure you done everything correctly, regardless make a nandroid backup before doing so)
2. edit my aerofire zip by extracting it, removing everything besides the framework folder in the system folder, now copy your framework-res.apk to the framework folder, removing whats inside. Go to root of folder, select all, right click, send to compressed zip. then flash through recovery, reboot.
3. head to the uot.dakra.lt/ and run the framework-res.apk through it customizing what you want and then flash the resultant zip file.
Hope that helps
Does metamorp or Zip Themer work on Wildfire?? Tried them many time but couldnt bring them to work...any guides/suggestions ...
I tried, keeps rebooting, dont really have a lot of time to test as i'm writing an exam tomorrow.
Thing is i'm under the impression that it only works on mdpi devices, correct me if i'm wrong about this
Is it possible to make a transparent lockscreen with the same way?
I use DK Custom Froyo Rom.
A transparent lockscreen is in fact the exact same process, only difference is that you modify the com.htc.resources.apk instead of the framework-res.apk. If you want some idea on what needs modding, take a look at my aerofire theme mod, just extract the apk needed and take a look.
Just search the forum for lockscreen mods and you can do just about anything with it. That being said, widgetlocker? who uses that and why? i find it so frustrating due to (and i know this is a bit perfectionist or whatever) the 1 or 2 second delay that occurs between pressing the power button and seeing the lockscreen, i mean come on, sometimes it even shows the homescreen for a split second before showing the lockscreen and thats just not on for me
did any one tried that. completely transparent status bar???/ is there a flashable zip?? srry m no developer. after trying hundereds of roms m bak to kwbr. lol

Sent from my Nexus 4
Ok For the last week i have been running the beautiful theme Meizu for CM7 theme chooser. Now I have been trying to create my patch for a transparent status bar. I have been using the Patcher App From Here And Using this Tutorial From Here
Now I have the latest apktool.jar downloaded swapped it in with the One the Came with Zdune's Patch because i dont know how outdated the one that came with the patcher is.
Now the Patcher Works Fine For Decompiling the apk, It tells me to make sure i have both the Framework-res and systemui on my desktop.
So i go through all the steps correctly, I even triple double check to see if ive edited the Statusbarservice.smali correctly and ive done this numerous times. Everything runs smoothly, Even compiling and signing the SystemUI.apk but no matter what i do When i push the modded SystemUI.apk over to my phone it doesnt work. I dont know if there is something wrong with the apktool.jar or if its not signing correctly hell i dont even know if its renaming anything while recompiling.(which i have read elsewhere that it is a common issue.)
The reason im asking for help is because im a graphic designer and im pretty good at reading tutorials and debugging. So im not dumb by any means. And i want to design my own theme. And my theme will have a transparent status bar.
I have attached my unmodded systemui and framework if someone would like to help patch this for me, Or even guide through the process to show me what im doing wrong.
BUMP! Really Nobody?!!!
Im trying to teach myself here and actually reading unlike others at times, but What my GOAL: is to remove the GPS icon in my ROM when it is not active. I may be wrong so please correct me if I am...
I started with "APKtool" to decompile my "systemUI.apk" I then edited "HtcCdmaStatusBar.smali" located in "com/android/systemui/statusbar/policy"
I ran into a problem with compiling it back together with errors (after trying for hours to find my mistake) I moved on to...
"APK-Manager"
Again following instructions I decompiled "systemUI.apk" using "com.htc.resources.apk" as well since its a system file..
It seems to have worked, it said to delete whatever I modified in the "keep" folder well the ".smali" files don't appear only XML and system images but I went ahead and tried to take that "SystemUI.apk" that I recompiled with the edited files and dropped it in my phone via root manager
(well yea that didnt seem to work)
I moved on to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549309
I used it as a reference to edit the files I wanted to and not the the ones that were on the guide. well I had no errors and I and did everthing correctly, as i thought and the finally step I pushed the "SystemUI.apk" via adb and then rebooted
That resulted in a force close on my "status bar" i believe it said when I booted it up, after i cleared the force close my phone worked fine except the fact I had NO TASKBAR what so ever...
I am running "Showdown 1.0'

Like always, Thanks for any help or ideas in advanced....

Where did the thread go? Dont see it in Q &A forum??? Having the same problem
I was JUST having a very similar issue.. I was trying to decompile and recompile rosie but it kept giving me errors. Someone said try apkmanager 4.9 (I was using 5) and my problems went away. Also I noticed if you are using a file that has already been modified apkmanager didnt seem to like that. I had to take a stock one, make the xml changes, build it then replace whatever images I had replaced in the original
and now I cant get the ***** to build right. I'm not trying to mod it so the pull down notification bar is semi-transparent but it wont build correctly
pastebin of my apkmanager log file http://pastebin.com/uZ8JacJL
I currently use a HTC HD Mini (Photon) running the SCREAM ROM by Ling Gan. It has a few bugs for most of which there is either a workaround or fix but there is the one problem which has remained unsolved: the default wallpaper on everything BUT the home and lockscreens cannot be changed. It is of a tree in a meadow under a blue sky and when rotated to landscape changes to some smiling chinese lady in the "settings" submenu. Doesn't hamper use much but it is quite annoying.
I have tried a number of solutions some of which resulted in my having to reflash and others did nothing. I post this here because I think it is a CM7 issue. The ROM developers have so far been unable to post a solution within the thread and I am aware that a fix for similar problems on CM9 ROMs exists using ADB to edit framework-res.apk. I felt it was time the problem was tackled by the wider XDA fam. Used google translate to look on the chinese site where the ROM is native to (mobile-kon) but found no help as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i think ur problem lays in the framework-res.apk it contains the look of the rom and the transition effects
you can mod apk with the apkmanager tool for ur computer in the frameworkresapk you should find the images u want to change replace them witch a black picture or something like that
if never done this befoure exept from changing some transition effects and i had a couple of errors among this
the easier way seems to search for the rom on another page cus the images ure stating are not standart in the cm7

Many thanks!
I started off looking through the "res" folder in framwork-res.apk using Root Explorer to identify the images for the wallpaper. They were
Res/drawable-land-mdpi/screen-background-dark-transparent.png
And
Res/drawable-mdpi/screen-background-dark-transparent.png
I then created a copy of framework-res.apk on my SD card and copied it onto my pc. I created new wallpapers to replace the ones I just mentioned, one in portrait, the other in landscape. They were 320x480 and 480x320 respectively. Using 7zip on the pc, I placed them in the corresponding folders (/drawable-mdpi for protrait and /drawable-land-mdpi for landscape).
I copied framework-res.apk back to my sdcard and then fired up terminal emulator to run the following commands
su
sys -rw
busybox cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
sys -rw
You might get error messages from running apps after this but ignore them and reboot. The idea is to replace the framework-res.apk in system/framework with the one you just edited.
After the reboot, you should have your newly created wallpaper showing up in settings in both landscape and portrait modes.
Please hit "thanks" for both jiffer1991 and I if this was helpful. Big ups to jiffer1991for pushing me in the right direction.

hm u got stuck in a bootloop thats what i meant when i mentioned errors =)
you could make a zip with the old framework res apk or reflash the cm rom
if u dont whipe data/cash ure setting will be safed
read some tutorials how to mod the framework res apk
I have an .zip file on the sd card.
Can i copy it to the Android system somehow?
Felix
P.S. can i zip the framework and remove the ".zip" to ".apk"?
It is most likely that the zip file you have is the ROM image from which you flashed in the first place. Changing the extension to apk is NOT what you want to do. I suggest you create a backup in CWM of you present configuration and after reflashing, you can then do a partial restore of your user data. But its like Jiffer1991 said, read up on CWM, theres an exhaustive guide on xda somewhere.
Thanks,
i installed my modified cm rom without wipe caches data or something.
And now i have my old datas back, with the new Background.
