Moved files out of MOT and can't put them back - Motorola Droid X2

I helped a friend to root his DX2 and in the process of coping the files off of sdcard I hit move instead of copy. Now I would like to put the files back, but it says there isn't any more room for them.
The phone has 619MB of internal space left and I didn't put anything in the MOT directory. I am presuming that the phone it reporting the internal sdcard space as MOT. And for some completeness the "hidden" files weren't moved and are still there.

try formating sd card
menu>settings>storage>unmount internal storage then format internal storage

Sounds scary. I'll have a go at it and see what I can find before hand. I figure if I format through the settings menu it should be right, right?

I figured it out. What I did was copy the files that were still on the internal space and saw that it was about 3.8GB. Way too big for what should be there. Then looking at what was in there (like I said, it's my friends phone. I didn't want to rummage through his stuff.) I found that everything was in the trash.
That's what I get for not getting sleep.

SD CARD and PHONE STORAGE

today i noticed on my sd card and phoen storage settings thing
that my sd card hasn't used a single MB but my Phone Storage with 12.77 GB currently has 1.25GB left?
How is that possible? i'm sure i dont have 10GB worth of things in here, to make sure i went on my computer, connected USB and saw that none of my files were bigger than 300MB
Why is this and how can i fix it?
Also if i press Format SD Card, what will happen?
please help me out here guys!
NVM i formatted it and all my crap on the thing is gone, now it feels like starting over, AHH good.
That's maaad weird.
But if you plugged into USB storage mode and if you see that's showing the right storage size properties, then that must be bug of the rom you're using.
Edit: You should have made a backup, before. Althought maybe it wouldn't have worked

Probably because the rom. I imagine it's reading the external_sd folder space and lumping it with the internal since that folder is in the sdcard tree: sdcard/external_sd where it used to be the external was "sd"... Just a guess.
No I formatted on purpose I saved music files before doing it.
Somehow it feels way snappier!

DO NOT FORMAT IT, after i did, i experienced SO MANY ISSUES because on my internal i had a bunch of things that apps depended on.
If you don't mind ODIN and going to JFD then do it.
Do this if your going to ODIN, its worth it.
Settings > SD Card and Phone Storage > Format (forgot which one) then you'll get all the space back then ODIN back to STOCK then it'll put all the files you need back on there, and you'll be good.
DONT just delete it and think your all good,
in your internal theres the update.zip which made me pull my pubic hair out (literally)
IF you dont want to do it, which i don't recommend, just go to settings > sd CARD AND PHOEN STORAGE > and click format on SD CARD or PHONE STORAGE and click confirm, and it'll be done.

[Q] Motorola Atrix 4G - Where is my sdcard space (only 11.5GB shown in TB)

Do I lost all my data on sdcard?
ES Explorer shown me the message no sdcard mountet.
I remount the sdcard in the Settings.
Now the Partition ist only 11.5GB (in Titanium Backup)
In ES Explorer the message is not shown again, but my old folders are gone.
Can someone explaine what's going on with my Atrix?
(Sorry 4 my bad english)
try putting the sd card into your computer and checking it out.
Are you sure you're checking /sdcard-ext/ (EXTERNAL CARD) or /sdcard/ (INTERNAL MEMORY)? Because mostly apps show internal memory as sdcard; and ~11.5GB free for internal is OK.

It is the internal sdcard, shows me 11.4 from 11.5 free and all my data are lost. 20 folders which i can't see.
Should be 15.x total
There is internal storage which the phone considers an SC card, and then there is external storage which is the card you put in. The phone partitions the internal storage and uses bits for various things. part is for webtop, part is for apps, part is for storage. 11.x gigs on the internal is normal.
the data you claim to have lost, was it on the card you put in the phone yourself? if so it's probably still there, you just need to look at the external card.
I believe the AT&T phones show the internal sdcard as having 10.7GB free after a clean sbf flash. Mine does, and I know other people have reported the same number. Obviously this number will vary slightly by carrier, but not too much I would think.

yeah i have the same problem lol
Internal: 2.11GB, SDcard:11.5, Ext. SDcard: 3.95
I know flashed the gingerblur 4.5.
Titanium Backup shows me now the following:
System ROM: 335 MB (121MB free) --> what partition is that?
Internal : 2.11GB (1.55GB free)
SD card: 11.5GB (11.4GB free)
Ext. SD card 3.95GB (3.86GB free)
total internal should be 16GB, but its only 13.61GB ...
Can someone explain me, how I get my holiday photos and my sound files back? all my folders were deleted, but i didn`t formatted anything...

I had a similar problem as well. I lost all my data in my ext sd card. Prior to that there were a couple of times where the sdcard and ext sd card didnt mount properly.
I tried to recover but to no avail. I now try not to transfer via the usb cable to minimize unmounting.

Is there a way to restore the pics?

Intermal Memory Mounted as /sdcard

I was confused for the first few days when I would tell an app to backup its settings on the sdcard and then later they couldn't be found. I just realized that HTC has the internal memory mounted as /sdcard and the MicroSD card mounted as /sdcard/ext_sd/
This is a great idea IMO and I always wished it was this way on my Incredible. I always hated how on my Droid and my Incredible that all my settings files were crapping up my sdcard instead of the internal memory (which I rarely ever used for storing stuff), it made it a pain to find things when you were placing the MicroSD card in other devices since you had to hunt through all the settings folders.
The more I use this phone the more I like it.

Direct link is sdcard2
This messed with me for a lil while. I was trying to restore backups of my launchers and other stuff.
Had to mount it on my comp and move needed files to the internal sd and left other junk on ex sd.
now im rocking 7gb internal and ~20gb external. wtf am I going to do with all this space?
I'm not a fan of it by any means. I think they should have made internal SD2 and let the actual SD card be sdcard. Titanium saves everything to the internal memory now because of its name, which is stupid. And I don't see anywhere to change the directory Ti saves to, just the folder name. So anytime I do a backup, I have to copy the folder from internal memory to the SD card. I'm not sure what else is performing the same actions, hopefully not everything else.
This also really complicated folks like me with Exchange accounts that require encryption of your card. Since the internal memory is now listed as a sd card it encrypts the internal drive too stopping others programs from writing to it

Only think I have been able to figure is everything is saved to the internal sd and you have to manually move it to the extra sd.
Imagine all the people that arent tech savy. They are going to fill up the internal and think they have no more room.

1st, make sure that whatever from Titanium that is on /sdcard is moved over to /sdcard2 then in Titanium:
Press Menu button, scroll down to Backup Folder Location and press that. Press "DETECT!" and then press "WHOLE DEVICE" It should locate the spot on /sdcard2. After choosing that, press "Use the current folder" and you should no longer have to manually move stuff from internal to external.
What I have yet to try on this phone is to move my apps and pictures to the internal "sdcard" then use a program like "MyBackup Pro" to run scheduled App, Photo, and Data backups to the External card (I don't believe Titanium will backup your photos which is why I say use that). That would mean that not only would my apps, pics and data be stored in its own partition internally, but I would have a true redundant backup location in case my phone craps the bed.
I'm running 3.7.5 and don't see any option for Detect, all I can do is change the name.

You can change the Titanium backup directory (you'll have to do it during temporary root). I did and pointed it back to where my backup files were on the SD card that had been in my Incredible. It's possible it's only available with the paid Titanium version (but that is an app I didn't mind paying for).

SD Card Swap and Lost Apps

I used the instructions from iJimaniac to swap my storage from internal to external (love the mass storage now!) however all my apps that I originally had moved to the SD card have suddenly disappeared and now i have to remember and re-install them. I made a copy of everything under /mnt/sdcard and moved it to my external SD card before making the switch so that everything would still be linked ok. Any ideas on what went wrong? Note: i took everything on my external SD card and put it in a separate folder on my external SD card so I wouldn't lose any of that.
Well, I used a PC to copy .android_secure folder from the real external_SD to the new "fake" external_SD. If that doesn't work, I would copy back the original vold.fstab then move all apps to internal, then use modified vold.fstab and move your apps back to sd if you want. Remember to reboot after making a change. Several reboots might even be needed for all apps to show up (might want to try that before anything). Hope this helps!
Ok well the problem is apparently that the .android_secure folder on the sd card is empty. Strangely it also has no permissions and refuses to let me change it. Whenever i try to replace it with the full .android_secure folder it gives me a black screen and i have to restart. Any idea what might be wrong?
Well, it might not actually be empty, it looks empty when viewed with an android file browser, but when you look at it on a computer (might need to disable "hide protected system files" in windows folder options) you should see stuff in it. So, you need to copy the .android_secure folder FROM your REAL microSD card TO your REAL internal memory using a pc, not an android file browser. To be clear, I have figured out that android transfers the app to your sd card when you select "move to usb storage", so that can be deceiving. Your apps were on the sd card, but now you need to transfer them to your usb storage by moving the .android_secure folder. Hope you figure it out!
Ah something decided to start working again and all my apps came back! Thanks for your help!
No problem! What was probably wrong was your player was rebuilding the dalvik-cache. It sometimes takes a while I find. Glad you got it working.

Cant access internal storage

I am pulling my hair out here.
I can not, no matter what I try, get access to the internal storage of my 7.2.
If I put an SD card in I can see the files on that but thats it.
Connecting the phone to a PC and selecting file transfer on the phone I get "The folder is empty" from windows.
I have tried all sorts of File Managers on the phone and none of them can access the internal storage
What the actual frick is going on!?!

This is only a guess, but might help.
You reference an SD card.
When did your issue start?
If you setup SD card to extend (act as part of) internal storage, then your comments make sense.
You only see files when SD card is present because device is setup with internal storage to = true internal + SD card size.
You would need to configure SD card to work in multiple devices for your SD card and internal storage to display separately.
This might not be the issue you're having, but only suggestion I can provide at the moment.
