[Q] very frequent phone freezing - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
in last days my sgsIII start freezing few times in a day. I always must remove battery.
Factory reset doesnt help.
Wipe too.
I have reinstalled software and recovery through Samsung GS3 ToolKit but still nothing
I always install clean soft and root.
Once time I did a factory reset, the phone is launched and immediately freeze.

Try flashing stock firmware via odin (not any leaked firmwares) if freezing still happens the problem is propably in your mainboard and you should contact your reseller or samsung but remember if your binary counter isnt "no" you will have problems with warranty
hit the thanks button if i deserve it

check the freezing thread in General

That could mean your phone voids warranty as its rooted or has a custom rom .
Did you not restore the phone and remove root first . If you did then the reply is not very clear .

Did you take out orange care? If so just call them and you'll get a replacement phone. Or take it back to the shop and get it looked at under warranty.
This might help
In had the same problem with my mums phone. Maybe they have done something to try and stop us!
I spoke to orange and I complained about it and said it kept rebooting and I removed the system basically and sent this back.
Lucky for me they said they have found that this phone had a fault when it was in the factory and they said they had fixed it. Desperate that all they had done was reinstalled the system I told them that it was unacceptable and I wanted a new phone, I also told them I had taken note of the old imei number. They did not like this and put me through to the manager who then saw this through.
I then got a stock Samsung device with no orange rom or app such as the launcher.
Although this took a lot of effort as orange are rubbish with there custermer service I think it was well worth the 2 weeks it took me to finaly agree to get me a new device, I now have a custom rom orange phone with signal boost! (I installed myself)
Hope this helps
thanks very much for that info...give me a head up now
so is there anyway i wipe this phone and start from the fresh?
maybe some smart cookie out there knows

I bricked my s3? [SHV-E210K]

Hi,
While i was trying to reset flash/binary counter, i click reset counter n after some process, phone switched off.. i waited a little while to reboot but it didn't. then, i switched on by myself but when samsung galaxy logo appears, it died.. i tried many times but couldn't go after that.. then i tried to boot in recovery mode but it also didn't worked. thankfully i could boot in download mode and had root with odin [CMW 6.4] to run recovery mode n it worked. but after rooting my s3, i switched on n see pin code screen.. then, i realized the main issue "my touchscreen is not working" !! i don't know how it happen but phone looks fine, rom is working well but touchscreen is not working.
At first, i boot in recovery mode n wipe all data (factory reset), cache n dalvik cache and with a great hope, restarted my s3 but still had same issue. then, i remember i had a nandroid backup n i boot in recovery mode again. i restored it n restarted. but even i get back my previous settings, touchscreen still doesn't work. i can see wallpaper n then pin code screen but i can't do anything. it doesn't respond my touch n screen goes black. only vol. up/down, home n power buttons working. i guess
don't know to solve this mess. my s3 is a SHV-E210K n i got 4.1.1 JB. There're much people who use this device so that i couldn't find any solution. if somebody can help me to get out from this trouble, gonna be appreciated.
waiting your help guys, thanks in advance.
i think we already have 4 with identical case, all you can do now is to go to samsung service center for warranty, i think the touchscreen panel or digitizer had been damage. check the triangleaway thread in gs2 forum they report their problem and solution there.

i would do that but i bought this from Korea and in my country, company doesn't support warranty unfortunately. but i don't understand how a software can damage my touchscreen in seconds?!.

my mistake as i did not see where you live, i think not the actual touch panel was damaged but some other electronic parts in panel assembly has been damaged, i also waiting and hoping for possible software fix before i go to service center for warranty. but i think it is possible, do you know the emmc brick problem caused by flashing firmware that is a hardware damaged by software.
other guy with e210k in another thread already went to samsung service center for repair and they replaced the touchscreen.

hi,
today, i get my phone back n didn't repaired cos they offered to change led screen + touch screen n it costs around 400$.. so that, i didn't but there's no way to fix it with a software.. i'm looking for a cheaper solution
do u think they will samsung gonna accept to repair your phone with warranty? cos if they see that u rooted your device, it's out of warranty..
i think you have no other choice then, you can't revive dead electronic parts by software, just take your chance maybe they will not notice it, just tell them that your touchscreen is not functioning. just went to samsung service center this morning for my s3 e210k repair and they replaced my front cover and display assembly to a new one and it is running smoothly again. lucky me my counter is 0 and status is official that why didn't pay any charge.

yeah, you are really lucky n im convinced that i can't revive it with any software. i will send my device to warranty but still couldn't reset my counter. everything is official on odin mode but just counter says yes (9 counts). i connect usb mouse to my device via on the go usb cable n control all functions with mouse. i tried to use triangle away again but when it needs to reboot the device, samsung logo goes dead or goes crazy with different colours. everytime, i install CWM again to get back my device.
pls, someone tell me how to reset counter with triangle away! i created a folder in sdcard directory which named "triangleaway" n put there triangleaway v2.3.6 apk n param.tar then run the application. but it doesn't reboot the device, goes dead. don't know how to use param.tar file. what should i do for a proper reset? i need to reset countern then i will flash official firmware to send my device to warranty.

i think you cannot reset counter now as your touchscreen is not working, you need to use triangleaway apk to reset counter. try your luck if you have usb jig to reset it maybe it will work for you.
i think the best you can do now is to flash stock rom and send it to a/s and pray that they will not check the counter.
Don't try your like. It can be done. Has every one of you forgot that sgs3 supports a wired mouse? Just get a USB adaptor and conect a mouse to your phone. Than you can start triangle away.

No you still have chance of resetting counter as you can use usb otg, dont use triangleaway 2.36 again after flashing stock rom and root instead use triangleaway 2.2 to 2.30 it will work im sure as i use 2.2 without softbrick.

Suddenly there are Pixels :/ (Bricked?)

So today I wanted to unlock my Phone with the PIN-Code, suddenly the resolution of the Samsung Galaxy S3 changed to a minimal resoultion and went to the top of the Screen, I couldn't restart because I didn't see the Power-Off "function".
So I took the battery out of the phone, waited some time, and put it back in, then there was the same problem and I couldn't do anything, so I thought it's maybe a Software Issue, so I went to the Download-Mode (Volume Down + Home Button + Power Off/On then pressed again Volume Down to get into the Mode, btw I couldn't see anything expect the red "!" at the Top.
So I reseted my Phone to the default Firmware (I had CM10.1) with Odin, and the Problem was still there, so I thought you guys could help me maybe ;/
Is it a Hardware Issue or a Softer Issue?
Do I still have a gurante?
What do I have to do?
The phone is like 4-5 months old btw.
Thank you!
//First it happens like in "Photo_2" then some time later it happens like in "Photo_1".
Guys, please help me :/

You will get no help by not following the rules and bumping posts .
You have no warranty.
Flash stock rom via Odin and read the return for warranty how to post .

Well I can't see anything so no I couldn't do a factory reset, and I heard that if you got a Hardware Issue that you will get a gurante, is that correct?

No.
Root or custom rom or certain types of damage void warranty .
Phone unable to power on then its likely that root would never be noticed .

Well you can Power on it, but if you go into the DownloadMode you can't see how often I flashed my i9300 (or let's say you can't see if i flashed my phone), so will they notice that I flashed it somehow?
can you go into recovery by holding the power+ volume up button?

Stuck with no clue what to do, please help!

Hi Everyone,
This is my story:
I woke up today to my phone being off. Thinking it was battery, I got my spare and replaced it. Turned on the phone and saw the:
"Samsung
Galaxy S III
GT-I9300"
This logo kept on appearing, then disappearing; appearing then disappearing. It is still doing that and I can not get past it. I have tried clearing Dalvik Cache (yes I can access recovery mode). I have tried using Odin to flash stock firmware to it (it showed a "PASS"), and still nothing works. I am at the end of my wits with this phone. Based on what I know, my options are:
1) Wipe/Reset Factory data
2) Take it to a repair shop bcz of a hardware malfunction (no warranty)
3) Throw it in the bin
Any other options that might get me into the phone to get my information?
Just so you guys know, this phone was rooted a couple months back. The only reason I rooted it was to use Titanium Backup. Needless to say, I wasn't messing around with it when this happened. Please advise!
Use Google or search on XDA next time!
Looks to me like you have SDS!

factory reset should've been the first thing you did after the cache. that's your solution. it's not sudden death, just do a factory reset

Can you enter recovery? Or it's just DL mode?
I can enter recovery and DL mode. For the record, I just did a wipe data factory reset and it's still doing the same thing. Any suggestions now?
If you can get into download mode then try flashing stock Rom with Odin, if it doesn't boot up, go to recovery and do factory reset.....

The other mode is called recovery mode.
The factory reset will wipe your data - although most will be probably backed up and restored later.
Try that, if it doesn't work, flash with the download mode.

Did wiping from recovery mode not help? try that before trying odin, it's much safer.
Also, please follow all the instructions when dealing with odin, misuse can hard brick your device and turn it into 600$ useless paperweight.
no i just relfahsed with odin , and it restarted it then said re installing 0/200 apps like it started up first time then it restarted and now its back in a reboot loop

Weird, seems like a problem with one of the apps (?) since it was reinstalling them, factory reset from the recovery menu and see if that makes the difference now that you flashed with Odin.
If not please report back.
PS: wipe dalvick cache under advanced in recovery.
it wasn't reinstalling them. it was optimizing them because the cache was cleared. you need to factory reset. factory reset from stock recovery will also wipe the internal sd though
i am not rooted so dont have access to clr dalvik cache
flashuing stock rom with odin didnt work .
factory reset worked !!
lost all my torrents and stuff on sd card . teach me to back up now
thank u

Hi you would never guess what. It happened again. I restored all google apps say 100. Then I was using SMS back and restore to restore about 16k texts . I have lost about two months since the last back so my phone had handled more txtx s then 17k texts
Then it was stuck on solid blue led and glowing samsung logo again . So I just factory restored and now it's ok again ,but now I lost all my stuff again having stayed up until. 4am in the morning rode loading and re installing all apps
Seems like something is hitting all the cache causing the phone to semi brick ? Could it be a bad cache ? So when the phone writes to that caches it bricks it?

No idea, is everything fine now?
Is your problem resolved?
Not really
I just been googgling , is this what they call sudden death?
I did call up samsung service centre and my phone is still under its two year warranty so I got time to take it back.
He did seem helpful but issue is I have fixed it by wipe and factory reset so problem is now not present so not much he can do
The service centre did say if they can not find or repeat the fault then they can't do anything and would send same phone back. Having come from iPhone , it seems the service is not as good . When I had problems with my iPhone they just swapped it out after they plugged it into some machine.
It's been ok today. Though, it's restored all the same apps I had and it hasn't bricked itself yet thank god
I am using app back up and restore and it's sayings I got 290 apps lol
17k of text messages, that maybe the problem..
Regards
