Hi. So uh, last night I tried installing this mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184413 (Shutdown Animation with Sound, for Xperia U obv.) but since I was disappointed with it because the resolution was for landscape, I tried removing it. What I did was delete the shutdown animation file. Along with it, after exploring the zip file, I found out that there were some apps along with it which I didn't know about since it wasn't in the included in the dev's post about it. I deleted these files:
Backup-Restore.apk
Backup-wizard.apk
beats.apk
GpsSatellitesNotification.apk
helpapp.apk
HtcBeatsNotify.apk
NetworkLocation.apk
OnOffTools.apk
PSCertifiedSettings.apk
SemcUnplugChargerReminder.apk
ShutdownAnimation.apk
SomcCameraAutoUpload.apk
Question now is that, was it okay that I deleted these things? I'm currently not getting any problem atm but just to make sure.
Thanks!

Hopefully you have made a Backup before Flashing/Installing Mods. If so just restore your backup via recovery.
The majority of the listed apks are required for ur system. By installing the Mod you have overwritten the original files.
Files you can remove are: beats.apk, HtcBeatsNotify.apk, PSCertifiedSettings.apk, SemcUnplugChargerReminder.apk
I also assume that some of the files also have installed/flashed Framework and Permission entrys!
Best thing to do is repair your phone using PC Companion.
Afterwards you will have to root your phone again. Kep in mind, after fresh install and root install CWM recovery and do a Backup. Thus you will always have the chance to get back to your original system if you don't like something.
If I helped you, pls hit the Thanks button.

None that i know of. Maybe with some apk editing we can fix that, but i don't know. Ray's screen is too perfect that all the text is too small..

You can download an app from the market such as titainium backup or my backup, that will back up all your apps and data, once you install your rom download the app from the market again and restore. All of your apps will be restored
There are a few paid and none paid apps in market, I use paid version of titainium backup but i have used my backup in the past

if your phone is rooted, you can edit file /system/build.prop. at string ro.sf.lcd_density=240 (9 from bottom) and change density to 260 or 280, than ALL text elements will slightly bigger. need reboot after changing.
Well frankly i don't think the messaging fonts are smaller... It's quite comfortable...
That lcd build.prop method was very common in Sensation section... but there we used to decrease it to 204 and with that you get 5x5 application drawer inn HTC sense...,don't know how it will behave here...
secondly, users reported that some market applications show incompatible if you change lcd density...

Hi Gents
I have my phone rooted with unlocked bootloader and i use stock rom .42 with Doomkernel.
Now when I connect my Ray to PC, PC Companion says that new firmware is available for my phone (.62). Do you know what would happen if I would start updating through PC Companion? Brick? Loosing root? Nothing? Simply updating? What is your oppinion about that? Thanks for support.

my steps are:
- open .apk in betterzip
- take out some .png and change it
- replace the .png
- save the .apk
- sign it
- install
- error, app not installed
i did some searches and found something about deleting the files of the "META-INF" folder, but that didn´t work either
i guess it´s related to the launcher not just being a launcher but also a system-file or something
so...what am i doing wrong?

Just put the apk in system/app change permission to rw-r-r and restart.
you mean copy / paste with a file manager or install??
and why change the permission? the original launcher has other permissions (i´m just curious)

can it do it the same way when modding the framework-res.apk?
Hello!
As some of you may already know, the official ICS update has hit the 2012 Arc successor, Xperia S.
I used Bin4ry's ftf file, from which I took the system.sin and extracted it.
I uploaded the /system/app folder for all of you curious to see which apps will work on our Arc/S and for developers and themers in general.
DOWNLOAD
Feel free to mirror the file and post the link here, I will add it in the OP.
However, please do not ask me for mirrors, it took me well over an hour to generate this one.
Cheers!
Sweet! Thanks!!!

Most -if not all of them- need to be pushed to /system/app, they cannot work as regular apps (installed in /data/app).

Is Walkman fully working ?.... what abt the new visualization option ..any one tried it yet ?
some app can not use in other phone, or must be re-build to use in our xperia 2011

no, there still music player, but it can not work on arc/arc-s like doom's file
edit: confirm a bug with new app: when chosing another theme color, the new apps still have the color before you flash/copy apps to your phone. lol, Sony always make people working hard to port apps from this phone to other phone.
Weather widget still no working, walkman the same.
A lot of app not working =d i gonna restore

If you wouldn't mind could you upload libs & framework too? Yeah you mentioned uploading framework folder but I need libs also
Or if you wouldn't mind could you tell me how you extracted the system.sin without having a device? I would gladly be providing a full system dump if you could teach me how to dump from system.sin. I already tried aIUP, unyaffs and sin2img to no avail.
Thank you very much Iridaki.
Could you extract framework to see changes?
i think it's take times to port walkman app fully working on our arc/arc-s 4.0.4.

Xperia S uses ext4 filesystem, not yaffs2.
I used Ubuntu to mount the ext4 system img and it worked!
Maybe there is a way to do it in Windows too, I just don't know it.
I'll see what I can do with the framework folder.

Hello , this is my first post
I have been in the android development section for so many time and I cant make a post or reply there because I have to post at least 10 replies in the General section.
Anyway , I dont know whether this question is in the right section or not , But the admins can kindly take care of that.
THE QUESTION :I have been using customs roms posted by developers in the android development section for so long and I know how to edit them after downloading but can anyone tell me how to remove sound mods like Xsinfinity or any other sound mod from the rom? See sometimes i like the whole rom and the music players but what spoils it to me is messing with the sound levels .. so is there a way to remove them ?
Thanks for your time.

The mod most probably replaces the system sound files... So in order to revert back you'll need to restore the backup... Or flash the original sound conf files in cmw..

Alright, that was helpful
1)Download Xs-infinity sound mod
2)Unzip (or just open the file) and look for same files in the rom
3)Delete exceeding files (the ones that don't have a correspondant in the same destination)
4) Replace file with same name (sound.lib etc) using ones from a stock or other custom rom
5) ???
6) Mod deleted

Just re flash your Rom. Then it replaced original files.
Guys .. The rom already has this sound mod .. So flashing it again wont do me any good .. Unless u mean that i reflash the stock rom but whats the point then i'll lose the custom rom .. It seems like theres no solution but deleting the files.
The only solution is the one i posted.
If you want you can make a script that will do it using adb shell rm cmd but not many other solutions than this..

Yeah... It's a tricky issue. Since device is odexed, all customizations don't work.
Eg. : if you replace only the battery icon/any icon in notification bar by a flashable zip....notification will disappear and will cause lag and graphics disorder in the device.
Solution :
Flash the original system ui.apk. Mere replacing the apk and setting permission might not work.

Isn't it flashing systemui.apk and replacing it, setting permission works same?
During flashing you extract to /system/app and set the permissions.

100% same. But during live replacement it will end up in a tornado of fc on system ui.apk. So I prefer flashing system stuffs to avoid "this and that" fc.
