*** 2013-03-20 - NOTE: I'm putting this ROM review on hold. It sounds like 2.3 is coming out soon to resolve some of the problems I encountered, so it'll be more worthwhile to review that instead. *********
Background: I'm committed to trying a new ROM every week or so, and writing up my detailed thoughts on them. This is my second ROM review, after reviewing Nil's Business ICS 2.1.0 last week.
ROM: Infection 2.2
ROM base: based on Cyanogenmod 10.1
Sense?: No HTC Sense
ROM version: 2.2 - 2013-03-06

Previous ROM: Nil's Business ICS
Recovery: Amon-Ra 3.1.5
Installation:
copied .zip to root of SD card (file is approx 210 megs)
adb reboot recovery
Wipe All / Factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik
wipe battery
wipe cache/davlik again
Did all wipes 2x times to make sure
Flash zip. Very quick. About 2 minutes.
Installation Notes: This installation went much quicker than Nils Business. It's also a very small ROM, at 200 megs (and it includes Google apps, which is nice). After installation starts, you'll see an ASCII graphic saying [**** Infection 2.2 *****], but nothing else until it finishes installing. It then boots up into stock Android 4.2, and you continue the activation process.
Errors encountered: One huge error comes up for me right away. After using the phone for 30 seconds or so, the phone would freeze up and reboot. Turns out, the ROM comes with some pretty aggressive voltage and frequency tweaks. I had to go into Kernel Tuner, Voltage, and increment all voltages +12.5 2 times. (The min voltage for the lowest frequency is now 750). This stopped the problems. It was very scary, and it's not cool that a ROM would include aggressive settings like this. It would be better to include safe settings, and have notes on the forum thread about how to further tweak.
Gut reaction: It's pretty awesome to be on stock Android, like my Nexus 7. Everything feels really smooth and fast. And unlike Sense, Android 4.2 just looks futuristic. I do miss a few Sense things though. I do miss the Quick Settings from Sense 4.0, and I miss some of the widgets (like stock quotes, the big HTC clock, etc). But overall, this is a nice way to go.

How long are you testing battery life for? What I've found is that generally, battery life takes about 2-3 days after flashing to settle and become consistent, that's why I'm not updating ROMs for my governor tests.
Clean flashes wipe all battery history and the charge longevity is negatively affected. Just wiping cache or dalvik doesn't do this.
Oh, and even though benchmark results rarely mean something tangible, would you consider benchmarking each ROM to see how they perform against each other?

For battery life, I don't have a scientific methodology. My week has a usual pattern (M, T, Th gym in the mornings, work from home, Weds and Fri commute to the office), so I'm going to try and use it as regularly as possible, and see how often I have to plug in. Right now, the 3 ROMs I've tried (Nils, Infection and Tron) all have far superior battery life as compared to stock+root.
As for benchmarks, I think that's a great idea. Is there a set of benchmarks that you would find interesting to help measure a ROM (versus measuring device-to-device?) Maybe Quadrant and Antutu?

Awesome, I'll hold off and review 2.3 when it comes out. I think I was playing around in Kernel Tweaks too much last night, and hosed the phone a bit. Looking forward to 2.3! Amazing stuff, seeing stock JB on our phones. Brilliant!

I'd favour AnTuTu, as I've used it on my device and a few others, and I know what the scores signify (somewhat). But yeah, as Neo said, why not try both? Nothing wrong with variety.
Does bluetooth work? I need that to work before I can jump to a new rom, but I'd love to get JB on my Rezound.

Now I know this is largely an opinion based question but figured I'd get some good feedback. I am a former incredible owner and with the incredible I had MANY choices of ROMs that were all fast, great battery improvements and completely stable. I was a huge fan of CM7 on the incredible. I finally just rooted my Thunderbolt and am looking for the same. I just want a ROM that is stable, decent speed and with better battery life. So far I flashed a sense 3.5 ROM (InfectedROM) and it is has many bugs, little bit better battery and actually feels slower than stock. CM7 says it is still in beta so I have been reluctant to try it. Does anybody have any advice on the most solid ROM out there for the Thunderbolt? Thank you

Any BAMF ROM. They are almost completely bug free, smooth, and offer better battery life over stock. CM7, even though it's not officially supported yet, doesn't have too many bugs. The battery life, in my opinion, just doesn't match up to Sense ROMs.
One piece of advice I'll give you for better battery life. Don't overclock. It just isn't necessary. The phone is fast enough at 1GHz, and you won't see too much of a change overclocking, just worse battery life. (Benchmark scores are meaningless. They do not reflect every day performance)
What kind of mAh drain do you experience on bamf roms? I stay between 15-25 on CM7 with the screen off and peak between 150-350 with screen on. BT is always on, as well as GPS. (Never use wifi, so can't speak on that) Oh, and I just Juice defender, before JD I would average 35-40. Sync mail with imap every 15 and exchange on push. Underclocked with screen off to 360 and run 1024 with screen on. I don't OC unless I'm plugged in. Then its only 1209.
I'll also cast a vot for Team BAMF. I am on BAMF forever 1.10 and I flashed the devs beta 3++ kernel build after because I saw a bit of lag with the stock kernel. You absolutely need to remember to wipe before flashing the rom, though. I neglected to and the lockscreen didn't even work.

I never dropped below 30% battery using bamf in months, I'm a huge fan. It took a lot for me to drain it down low.

Never had any problems with CM7 via protekk's builds. Run fast and smooth, and get great battery life. Plus it's clean so I don't have to worry about washing my hands after using it
Skyraider 1.3. Gives the best balance of htc sense functionality, battery life, customizations, and speed. I would stay away from sense 3.0 and 3.5 roms. They initially seem smooth; however in everyday use they will lag on you. The phone is just not designed for 3.0/3.5 sense. The 2.1/3.0 hybrid roms work well which is what the skyraider 1.3 rom is. If you don't like sense, then run CM 7.1.1 or Liquid Smooth 3.2. The non-sense roms will be a little faster, but I like the widgets that come with sense.
Update: Forgot MIUI rom. Very nice if you like the apple-esk look and feel. Very smooth.

How do i find the BAMF forever 1.1 rom. When I use ROM mamanger I only see 1.0.5

BAMF roms are probably the most stable roms and I tried most of them already I even bricked my phone a couple of times trying all the roms and so far I'm sticking with this ROM called thunder stick 3d
I've tried Bamf Forever, SkyRaider, SoaB, MIUI and Gingeritis 3D.
My vote out of all 3 is Gingeritis! Battery life has been a ton better than the Bamf roms and MIUI I only liked on my Droid X. Wasn't a fan on my T'Bolt.
Liquid Gingerbread 3.2
Liquid's AOSP 3.2 is by far the best rom I've used, it's based on CM7, which is technically still a beta, but I think that's just because the official support on the CM website is slated for CM9, I have no issues with Liquid 3.2 and I tend to be picky about dealing with bugs, and battery life is good the way it comes, better than Sense based roms, and you can configure the kernel for batterysaver which makes it even better.

I used CM7.1 most of the time but switch to a BAMF Sense 3.0 ROM on Thursday nights (and sometimes Sunday and Monday night) to watch NFL Mobile. They are both nice, but Sense 3.0 has some stupid issues, like lack of landscape mode, lower volume by default, dodgy Bluetooth support, etc, it's enough to make you want to get rid of it.

I vote for th3ory, i like that it is non htc sense. And this one is a ics look/feel rom. This is a link to dhacker29's rom (http://th3oryrom.com/ROMS/SHIFTAO5P_IC3.2.1.zip );and although it is 2.3.7 android it still seems like you're using ics. the only bug i have found is flash keeps crapping out. there's a thread i found (non t-bolt related) that i found where going to adjust (remove all) permissions fixes this but which folder i do not remember.
You won't get many votes for this b/c the developer isn't going to update it (at least i don't think) b/c they have moved on to another phone.
EDIT: i did a search for you if you're inclined to dnld this rom. in the Q&A bolt forum there is one i located that path on your phone you may need to find using root explorer to run flash. "/data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data" after this path go to permissions on this file and deselect all check marks.

it is an awesome rom but since CLEAN flashing this rom, ive had issues streaming my music from google, it sucks, i read other people having this problem as well so i tried the various fixes i found and to no avail, its a deal breaker for me cuz i wanna listen to the music i paid for. im gonna try SHIFT AO5P n see if it produces some positive results, if not, im going back to INFECTEDROM. I WANT MY GOOGLE MUSICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!

Does anyone use an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM that is stable enough to use as a daily driver? I looked through the list but they all seem to be lacking data connection, gps, or some other main function that I need.
Is anyone running one of the ICS Roms as a daily driver?
Scotts 3.7 is fantastic! Only thing not working is data arrows. Do it! You won't regret it.

Cleanrom. Just switched over from gb about a week ago haven't had a problem yet and no way I would go back ics is sweet, mostly in gimmicky kinda ways(face unlock) but still improvement.

I personally like Joelz desensed ICS rom. He should be updating in within the next couple days. I use it as my daily driver and have zero issues whatsoever.
id say go for clean rom and de-sense it if you want. the only thing keeping me away right now is all of the ugly green in the rom. once a blueish theme comes ill go for it. yes im anal about how my phone looks.

Actually, I was really looking for a stock ics Rom as I'm coming from a nexus s and I had gotten use to loving it.
I'll give Scotts cleanrom with sense a try.
What does desensed mean? Get rid of all the sense skin completely?

All of the ICS kernels stick at 384mhz or 1512mhz (or whatever max is) at all times, unless you apply the Conservative governor with a CPU control app (like SetCPU).
This causes
a) overheating (some report)
b) terrible battery drain (this is why ICS battery life typically is not as good as GB battery life)
c) great benchmark speed
Even with my extended battery, I'm not interested in this non-standard erratic performance and CPU clock speed situation.
When the kernel source is released, I hope that devs' work on ICS kernels is more stable than their work on GB kernels, too!
Anyway, the above explanation is why I will NOT be jumping to ICS again until a normally functioning kernel is available.
It's not worth it for facial unlock and Chome Beta. and...... yeah I have no idea what else ICS is good for!
Nils business sandwich, accept no substitutes. Always stable and clean, and issues are fixed quickly.

I do no not speak ill of other rom's but i highly recomend nil's p business ICS. It's smooth, stable , slightly themed and very well supported.
I have only tried Cleanrom ICS and NIL Business ICS. Both work good for me. Speaker phone works a little better on NILS. Tether, GPS navigation work on NILS. Didn't test GPS on CR but I assume it works. Tether works on CR. Battery is decent on both. They seem just a tad slower than gingerbread for me.
Apex launcher is nice for people that want a more AOSP like launcher.
Be careful of Mainversion if trying to switch back to a gingerbread rom from a ics rom though. If the Mainver is higher than a rom your are trying to switch too, you will have issues. There is a file here on the forums you can flash to set mainver lower before flashing a lower mainver rom I believe.
I'm using CleanRom 3.5. I don't have any notable issues. Tether works fine. Battery life is really good.

Thank you for the great info regarding the stability of ICS roms. I'm currently scoping out the situation for my brother who has a rezound and want to put something stable on it for him.
This is a huge issue and like you I will recommend he remains on gingerbread until it is worked out.

As the thread title states, I'm looking for a ROM with good battery life, I'm currently using CleanROM ICSE 3.7, and it's has okay battery life, but I think it could be better. Any suggestions?
Nils' Business ICS 3.4 has amazing battery life.
I'd start there. I try pretty much any ROM that looks interesting, but I find I always come back to Nils. His last 2 updates have focused on improved battery life, and they really do bring it.

what kind of results you get? usually massively debloated like CR dev edit does it for me....less system apps sucking on cpu

In my (very) limited experience, the kernel has far more affect on battery life than the ROM. Been using CleanRom 4.3 with the stock kernel, battery life is quite good compared to my GNex which I ditched after 5 days
RezROM 3.3 and the newest CleanROM Developer Edition have done the best for me, also check out the Kang Tapped Edition of CleanROM DE, same thing basically with some tweaks, it's my daily driver currently.
Cleanrom DE (nonsense) has been on my Rezound for a day, and its yielding pretty decent results. Got about 7 to 8 hours of moderate use yesterday (I work at Target Mobile - use it for work/messing around with it). I text back and forth consistently, as well as taking multiple calls - one yesterday up to an hour long. I left work with a 17%, when I walked in with 89%. LTE on, auto-brightness. I also am using ROM Toolbox to change clock speeds, I have profiles for multiple scenarios - that helps battery life as well. The only thing I had off was autosync, I'll open up FB or Gmail to update. Oh and I played music in the car both to and from work (20 minutes each way - regular music player).
I obviously want a little more time with it, but from when I had cleanrom (with sense) it seemed cut in half (sense is pretty and all, but she just eats your battery - with flashy graphics and auto updating everything).

3) Charmeleon (PKMN ROM)

6) SlimJewel
7) CM9 (not quite finished, but usable)
Personally, I am curious how they compare in terms of battery life, but other things such as performance and tweaks are obviously relevant. What do you all prefer so far?
Note: I've tried half of these already, but I'm curious what others are experiencing, and figured this will help those who can't decide.

1. Meh...good battery life
2. Not much going on there
3. Lots of tweaks. featured rich. Poor battery
4. Fresh and clean silky smooth. Best battery life of all 4 roms. I like this one the best.
1. Stock is stock. if somethings not working, it's not because of something you did. Good battery life. Pretty darn smooth for the most part.
2. Best battery life due to performance tweaks. Light on built in personalization tweaks, but because it's been out the longest, there are additional mods from other threads that were created specifically for this rom. All mods and tweaks in the op work. Devs seem to have no lives, and are super responsive to the thread.
3. Port of a rom from another phone. Lots, and I mean lots, of tweaks listed in the op. Most of them work correctly (and make your phone freaking awesome when they do) , but there are a few noticeable ones that have bugs, and require workarounds. Op doesn't indicate which tweaks aren't working correctly (or at all). Although battery life is still pretty respectable, it seems to have the worst battery life out of all of the roms (perhaps the performance tweaks aren't working either). Runs maybe a hair smoother than viper.
4. Stock rom with some personalization tweaks, all of which work. Because there have been no performance tweaks (yet), battery and performance will match what you get with the stock rom.
5. FreEVO rom. Why no love for Freeza? Anyway, rom is smooth and somewhat senseless, with rosie and some default apps removed. Also has a good number of tweaks. Most lightweight of the roms. Battery life seems better than stock, but not as good as viper.
Considering the phone launched less than a month ago, all of these roms are tremendous, and you can't really go wrong running any of them (except for basic stock, bleah).

I'm gonna check out Fresh next. I've been running Charmeleon for a while now, but haven't honestly done that much in terms of tweaks.
Battery life winner seems to be Viper or Fresh so far?

So far I have only tried Chameleon and Fresh.
I did get great battery life with Chameleon (25% battery after 15 hours of moderate to heavy use), but random bugs, broken tweaks, odd lag, and redraws tempted me to try Fresh.
Two days on Fresh and so far its great. It has all the tweaks that I wanted (except the AOSP recent apps menu), and battery life has been decent. I havent given it the chance to settle unplugged long enough to really compare though. Right now I'd say Chameleons battery life was better, but Fresh is running much smoother and consistent.
I'm sure I'll be flashing at some point Viper in the near future if Fresh doesn't put out an update to keep my flash happiness in check!

I think I'm gonna jump on the Fresh bandwagon once update 1.1 hits.
Also, added CM9 to OP since it is usable as daily driver if you don't mind losing mobile data.

+1 for Fresh. All the tweaks I wanted without the fluff. Well, almost everything. Would love the auto brightness reduction and long press Recent Apps button for Voice Search. But it is only the first release...

Battery life any different from stock or other ROMs you've run? In my limited experience, none of these ROMs alter battery life much yet.

I have two puzzling questions. I have installed both the AtrICS Rom and the ICSROM, from which two issues have surfaced.
1) The AtrICS Rom feels slightly cooler than the ICSROM (both are warmer than they should be, but that's expected with a new source code).
Has anyone else noticed this? I have tested both AtrICS 1.0 and ICSROM 1.3
2) The battery life using AtrICS appears to be slightly better than ICSROM.
Has anyone else noticed this?

1) "coolness" depends on how you use the phone, and what frequencies it is running at. It is only affected by your usage.
2) Battery life also depends on that. Seeing as the AtrICS rom is cooler in your case, it means you are using it less and therefore the battery life is better.
ICSROM is based on AtrICS so it should not change much the battery issue and the problems that are already known. In my case I'm running AtrICS, with some modifications I'm testing, and apparently the battery life is much better.

If you could share those modifications...
I am testing both AtrICS and ICSROM with the same applications; i.e. Dolphin Browser, Shadowgun, Wild Blood, etc., and I have noticed that ICSROM is warmer and more sluggish during heavy use. Is there something I can send you to show you my results? Maybe the modifications in build.prop in AtrICS are the cause.

i have downloaded AtrICS rom and i am not sure which one should i flash can someone state the differences and the similarity because i really want ICS on my phone thank you guys so much for the useful in for you have provided above but an impotent question which on is actually faster???

restore my aps (without data of course) using titanium backup....
doing this, i will have the same apps on both.
will test using webtop etc....
im currently installing atrICS 1.0 as i type this n ICSROM 1.3 is being downloaded so will see how it goes
I have deleted some lines as suggested from other posts in regards to ICSROM, installed AnTuTu CPU Master Pro and TB Pro. I can see some increase in battery life with the default profile set at 216 min and 816 max. I won't be able to see any major results for a couple of days. Purchasing the pro versions of AnTuTu CPU Master and TB were worth it. I will keep an eye on my system stats.
P.S. I am a noob, but can you dual boot two roms? If so, how? Also, in regards to a few posts behind this one, did I read correctly where you said you will try both roms out at the same time?

Well I been using AtrICS n its been his so far. Only had about 5 this and phone got hot but back to normal now
Also did a benchmark and its low. Lower than standard antic but the phone moves very smooth n easy with this ROm
i got rid of atrICS because the battery life was awful, think i had 6 hours on my 3rd day or using the rom, i sent 10 messages uysing whatsapp, used 15 minutes of internet and half an hour of music and it was dead..
some problems...
i am a taiwan version atrix user(me860)
after i flash atrics or icsrom
my atrix will reboot again and again automatic
and the frequency is so high that i cant use it
what can i do now?
My experience:
I was getting more random reboots with ICSROM+it ate my battery little bit faster than AtrICS, so I would suggest AtrICS. I didnt flash latest build of ICSROM, but i dont believe battery life is much better.

well as AstroBoy89 did. i installed AnTuTu CPU Master, the free verson though.
i had gotten 4 reboots in total n those were with the spaace of an hour...
i have not gotten any since... but now i have installed the cpu master n lower max cpu a tad bit cause i realize it fluctuates alot and this can cause the phone to get HOT and thereby GREATLY decreasing battery life......
since doign that, phone been running cool, smooth, no reboots.....

I truly think both of them are based on the same kernel and rom, however I found some difference like why mymusic on ICSROM works but doesn't work on AtrICS. And Weatherwidgets which I love very much could not be installed on ICSROM...

things to a turn for the worst for me!!!!
my battery goes from 100% to 1% in about 2 hrs!
n yes i have take every battery saving step...
reinstalling rom from scratch after full wipe and downloaded app directly from store (did not restore anything from previous backup)
hmmm......
gonna try ICSROM and see how that goes
Make sure you're doing a full wipe between roms.
Wipe cache
Wipe data
Wipe dalvik
Under mounts and storage in CWM...
Wipe /system
Wipe /osh
Wipe /preinstall
Then:
Flash Webtop with CWM
Flash Rom
*Flash Apps package if needed
Reboot!

Well, i didn't try the atrICS, but i'm using the ICSROM since the v1.3 and now the v1.4. My battery maximum life was 14h and a few minutes, but not on heavy use. It's not warming too much, in fact, it's cooler than my gb stock. Games are running smooth. I'd only like camera quality to be better, and battery life to be longer.
