Hi Guys,
I want to know if we can use Samsung Galaxy Grand's keyboard app (samsungIME.apk) on Samsung Galaxy S2?
The reason I'm asking this is that I like the additional row for numbers that can be accessed easily. I know that there are few threads with the same topic but all of them focus on using the note 2's keyboard app. I'm asking for Grand's keyboard app because S2 and Grand have the same screen resolution 480 x 800 (although the screen sizes are different). I'm not sure if this will help in better compatibility and less rework on the porting.
Guy I need help here. Please come out and lets make it a success. I want to keep things as close to stock as possible. Can someone post the stock keyboard app (samsungIME.apk) from Samsung Galaxy Grand?
Here you go the ported s note 2 keyboard

Is working only on stock rom.
and you should know that galaxy grand keyboard and note 2 kb are the same

I tried to use the apk you have provided but it didn't worked. It is still the same keyboard and there is no additional row with numbers. This is what I did after taking a backup of my original samsungime.apk and samsungime odex from system/app :
1# First I tried to install the apk like a normal app. It didn't get installed, pretty obvious.
2# I tried to copy the apk into system/ app folder using root browser lite. Reboot. it is still the same old keyboard.
3# I tried to change the permission, similar to other system apps in system/app folder. Reboot. Its still the same old keyboard.
Can you tell me how to get it done correctly.

So the Galaxy SIII apps from system/app and the framework of the SIII is out, I was wondering if anyone can port this! Especially the Launcher "Nature UX":
Here is it:
https://hotfile.com/dl/156420377/8d50db1/app_and_framework_deodex_zipalign_SGS3_XXALE8.rar.html
It's already in the works. Go through the search and type in "aroma installer galaxy s3" it should be around there. I'd make it easier for you by posting a link but I'm still in that 10 post thresh.
Here is a link for the one I am using. You can either flash via CWM or just move the apk and lib file to the system/app & system/lib files, change permissions (rw_r__r__) and reboot to get them to show up.
But, I think you need ICS for this to run. I have CM9 on my player and it runs very nice.
I am trying to replace the default Samsung Keyboard on the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 with the AOSP Keyboard for version 4.1.2. I have copied what I thought were the correct apk's into the system\app folder in ROM and removed the SamsungIME.apk. When I try it it looks like no keyboard is installed. I have no way to type. Can anyone help me with incorporating this into my rom?
Thanks in advance
Go to settings-language/input select your keyboard. May have to uncheck then recheck the selection box first too

Extract the .lib files from the keyboard .apk(s) and copy them into the folder /system/lib/. I prefer using Root Browser. If using root browser, click on the keyboard apk file and click view. Navigate to the lib folder and extract them (Root Browser extracts them to /sdcard/Extracted/). Copy each one to /system/lib/ and change the permissions (for each one) to rwxrwxrwx (all 9 boxes checked or chmod 0777). That's how I made the new Google Keyboard a system app on my device.

Sometimes we can use them by copying apk to data folder. Just copy the apk file to "/data/app folder and sey the permission. And reboot.

Hi very_lie, need specifics, what method are you using- ADB? Are you rooted? What app- is it compatible with your device, app store(play/aptoide) will tell you yea or nay. Assuming you are rooted, use a good file manager, go into settings of the file manager, give it root permissions, and change mount system folders to writable, they will be read only originally. Find out where the app needs to go. For example, earlier today, I replaced talkback app because the version that came with custom ROM force closed. Google came out with an update recently that works for me. In file explorer, went to /system/app to find out what its called- talkback.apk. Downloaded v. 3.5 from aptoide(be careful), renamed it talkback.apk. go to /system/app, deleted older talkback.apk, go to data/dalvic cache and delete system @ app @ talkback.apk @ classes.dex Took renamed apk, copied it(from sd), just long press on the file and options come up, select copy. Navigated to /system/app and paste it there. Reset permissions, again long press hit permissions, will probably at rw-rw-rw, change to rw-r--r-- read write, read, read. Reboot. Upon reboot, may say android is upgrading-all is good-dalvic cache is building. Now with certain apps you will want to delete its data- in /data/data. For this app didn't need to. Also some apps can't be put in /system/app. On my phone HTC Evo 3d, ones like facebook, Twitter, translate and other google app can. Ones like Skype n dropbox cannot- they forced closed and can cause others to misbehave. So open up your app n see if it works. Go back into file manager, /data/data and make sure your app's permissions are rwxr-xr-x. Hope this helps, follow this same format when putting"forcing" app on data partition- /data/app

I revived the topic after so much time to thank the contribution that helped me to reinstall a service that I uninstalled by mistake in my Note8.
Thank you very much!
Regards
It's easy done wit "adb install <app.package.name>"
Do it without a PC...

I've got a old version of APK editor pro , that I can use . Version 1.00 to bypass any install errors .. don't ask me how to get it though. Regards
Of course I could also have flash stock firmware again but I needed a simple solution to use the media I had available at that moment, only two Note 8 (mine and my wife's to extract the apk) and little 3g signal (when I had) to find a solution.
I appreciate the recommendations after having solved the problem but the object of my post was to thank for the help, the rest are anecdotes.
Regards

How to get it?
Here are some custom themed Note Pro Keyboard apk files with screen shots available for download. Mikep2323 and I have been working on different themes and will post more as they become available. To install, just download the apk, change the name to SamsungIME.apk. Then using a file explorer of your choice (with superuser privilege) backup and delete the original apk from system/app and replace with a themed apk. Reboot, then with your file explorer navigate to the apk click on it and install with package installer. Once that is done you will need to go to settings/controls and enable Samsung keyboard as primary input and download your language dictionary in the keyboard settings.

I dont think so cause there both named SamsungIME.apk.You can always just rename one and keep them both in system/apps then change back and fourth if you wanted.I usually name the original one org.SamsungIME.apk then put the themed one in and if i want to change back to original i just change the names around reboot and original one is back there.Hope this helps.

Can anybody post an apk of a Samsung keyboard for the Note 4 that has the shortcut keys a bit like SwiftKey has? The W8 has a plain keyboard with no long press to character. I tried to download echo rom and extract the keyboard but I could not find it.
Thanks

That file is for Rogers only. Add this line to either feature.xml or others.xml depending on your firmware <CscFeature_Sip_EnableSymbolInSecondary>en_GB;en_US;az;ca;cs;da;de;et;es;eu;el;fr;ga;gl;ka;hr;it;is;kk;lv;lt;hu;nb;nl;pl;pt;ru;ro;fi;sr;sk;sl;sv;tr;uk;ko;hy;bg;ar;fa;ur;iw;ja;th;vi;zh;uz;in;mk;ms</CscFeature_Sip_EnableSymbolInSecondary>
anywhere in between the <FeatureSet> lines. I will post a snapshot below its my other file but it will give you an idea as to placement

I tried this and it didnt work...i used esfileexplorer to change persmissions but i didnt see the option to change to 644...i hate that samsung didnt include it stock. such a pain
I tried extracting the keyboard from echo rom and pushing it to system->app but now my Samsung keyboard is completely lost. I guess I'll just have to install a rom.

If your going to reflash just put the other file in the zip folder, same places
I know and I hate that too. Thays why I didn't use Samsung Keyboard for a long time. Why don't you install another keyboard like swype, swiftkey
install Xposed framework
install Wanam exposed module
there's an option for symbols in stock keyboard.
Theres an app in the play store called note 2 hidden settings, it will enable the secondary symbols...works on n3 and n4.
sent from Canada my Note 4, 3, 2 or One X+
