Hi everyone just picked up this phone coming from a rezound.I'm brand new to att and I've never see this icon before,it's the one to the left of the alarm clock.I've already unlocked and rooted so if I need to edit the build prop that's not a problem.any one know what this ugly icon is?

It's the NFC notification.
You can turn NFC off in settings and the notification goes away. Just turn it on when you want to use it.

I had several phones with NFC and none of them showed this ugly symbol. Must be a HTC thing. The worst is that Google Wallet is anyway deactivated by AT&T. So it is pretty useless except for exchanging data with Google beam.
Does anyone know how to remove the icon from the status bar without disabling NFC?
I found a thread about disabling it on the Galaxy Note II, but it doesn't work for the One X+.
This is what you do on the Note:
"This can be edited in the feature.xml file (located in "/system/csc/feature.xml") under the NFC the Statusbaricontype should be changed from ATT to none."
Perhaps there's a similar method for us.

The process isn't exactly similar, but the icon can indeed be replaced. The icon is found in the Nfc.apk package in /system/apps. Open Nfc.apk with the archive manager of your choice and replace the stat_sys_nfc_vzw.png file located in res/drawable-hdpi with an icon that is a bit more pleasing to the eye (I've opted for a transparent image myself). I've attached my modified Nfc.apk; it is from an AT&T HOX+ so I can only recommend using it with that variant (but who knows!).

Awesome! I appreciate your work on this!
I still have one question, however. I've opened and explored your apk and see your 1x1 transparent .png, and I also see how you edited the .apk.
My question is, how do you go about flashing it and replacing the stock app?
I'm runing a rooted HTC One X+, with the stock OS.

You can either use adb and the push command. Or you can use a file explorer, delete the original first, then copy the new one over. Finally set it's permissions to rwx-rxx-rxx.

Hmm...I'm using Root Browser Lite (I currently don't have access to a computer with the Android SDK installed). I deleted the original Nfc.apk, and it seems to have removed the app from the phone (or uninstalled it, I suppose), however the original .apk still appears in the /system/app/ directory according to both Root Browser Lite and OI File Manager. Furthermore, when I try to copy the modified Nfc.apk, I get a message saying that a file by that name already exists, so I just ask the phone to overwrite the existing file. It starts thinking about it for a minute or two, then says that the operation failed.
As it stands, I have the original file in the original location, albeit unistalled and no way to install it, as I get the "App was not installed" Message when I try to install it.
This may be a dumb question, but am I able to use the Terminal Emulator app to issue the adb command you suggested? If not, Do you have any other suggestions to get me out of this hole I've dug myself into?
Edit: I've succesfully moved the edited file to the correct location!!! I used ES File Explorer. However....I still can't install. I've done everything including changing the permsissions....it just won't install.
Thanks ahead of time!

System apps are not meant to be installed like regular apks, just reboot the phone and the changes in the new apk should take effect (when you turn NFC on no icon should appear).

I've done both of those things now, and still the NFC options don't show up in the menu. It makes the menu look rather lonely.
Just wondering if any further developments have been made regarding this issue. It makes me sad every time I think about how my phone is probably one of the only HOX+s out there that's incapable of using its NFC hardware.
I know its a pain in the ass, but you could always flash a new rom

Bleh...I think you're right. As it sits, I'll probably just live without NFC until a stable CM10 build is released for AT&T phones.

Is your One X+ an AT&T version? If it is, how did you root it? I have the phone, and I already unlocked the boot loader, but I can't find a way to root.

Here are the original apk and odex files if you want to give them a try (just to get functional NFC back for when you need it).
Edit: xda tells me the odex is an invalid file, here's a dropbox link instead https://www.dropbox.com/s/cpb87mar7eipjdd/Nfc.odex

I very much appreciate the sentiment! I, however was sure to leave a copy, untouched, of the original .apk and .odex on my sd card.
I did indeed try the copies you provided to no avail.

Hi Guys,
I want to know if we can use Samsung Galaxy Grand's keyboard app (samsungIME.apk) on Samsung Galaxy S2?
The reason I'm asking this is that I like the additional row for numbers that can be accessed easily. I know that there are few threads with the same topic but all of them focus on using the note 2's keyboard app. I'm asking for Grand's keyboard app because S2 and Grand have the same screen resolution 480 x 800 (although the screen sizes are different). I'm not sure if this will help in better compatibility and less rework on the porting.
Guy I need help here. Please come out and lets make it a success. I want to keep things as close to stock as possible. Can someone post the stock keyboard app (samsungIME.apk) from Samsung Galaxy Grand?
Here you go the ported s note 2 keyboard
https://www.box.com/shared/kefoo20qp43fubnji061
Is working only on stock rom.
and you should know that galaxy grand keyboard and note 2 kb are the same
here's a link to clarifying you

scroll to the bottom and you'll see the proof
I tried to use the apk you have provided but it didn't worked. It is still the same keyboard and there is no additional row with numbers. This is what I did after taking a backup of my original samsungime.apk and samsungime odex from system/app :
1# First I tried to install the apk like a normal app. It didn't get installed, pretty obvious.
2# I tried to copy the apk into system/ app folder using root browser lite. Reboot. it is still the same old keyboard.
3# I tried to change the permission, similar to other system apps in system/app folder. Reboot. Its still the same old keyboard.
Can you tell me how to get it done correctly.

Any Luck with working Grand Keyboard ?
having problem with your link, it says you have a bandwidth restriction , can you post a mirror, thanks
I am trying to replace the default Samsung Keyboard on the Sprint Galaxy Note 2 with the AOSP Keyboard for version 4.1.2. I have copied what I thought were the correct apk's into the system\app folder in ROM and removed the SamsungIME.apk. When I try it it looks like no keyboard is installed. I have no way to type. Can anyone help me with incorporating this into my rom?
Thanks in advance
Go to settings-language/input select your keyboard. May have to uncheck then recheck the selection box first too

Extract the .lib files from the keyboard .apk(s) and copy them into the folder /system/lib/. I prefer using Root Browser. If using root browser, click on the keyboard apk file and click view. Navigate to the lib folder and extract them (Root Browser extracts them to /sdcard/Extracted/). Copy each one to /system/lib/ and change the permissions (for each one) to rwxrwxrwx (all 9 boxes checked or chmod 0777). That's how I made the new Google Keyboard a system app on my device.
Here are some custom themed Note Pro Keyboard apk files with screen shots available for download. Mikep2323 and I have been working on different themes and will post more as they become available. To install, just download the apk, change the name to SamsungIME.apk. Then using a file explorer of your choice (with superuser privilege) backup and delete the original apk from system/app and replace with a themed apk. Reboot, then with your file explorer navigate to the apk click on it and install with package installer. Once that is done you will need to go to settings/controls and enable Samsung keyboard as primary input and download your language dictionary in the keyboard settings.

I dont think so cause there both named SamsungIME.apk.You can always just rename one and keep them both in system/apps then change back and fourth if you wanted.I usually name the original one org.SamsungIME.apk then put the themed one in and if i want to change back to original i just change the names around reboot and original one is back there.Hope this helps.

Hi Guys,
Sharing with you how to activate the classic theme from WW Rom on the CN Firmware.
Please note this requires Root.
Download this File to your ROG II.
This is aa ZIP file, DO NOT unpack or mod it. Just download it and keep as is.
Copy the above zip file to the below location using a root explorer / root file manager.
system\etc\AsusTheme\themes

Then set the correct permissions to the file as shown in the last attached image.
Restart your device and check in themes.
Just delete file hidden and reboot
this is great, thanks
can i then use another launcher as default now that i'm rooted? i mean without disabling asus launcher via adb command line and such?

No, As long as the Asus launcher exists in system, it will always take priority over any other launcher installed.
what are the other themes that you have on there?
I only have the light and dark one. It looks like you have 6

Remove that "hidden" file in that folder and if you put the classic theme in it, you will have 6.
None of this worked for me. I am on tencent 12gb with WW and cannot access any of the themes. Any advice?

You need to use root explorer and mount r/o then you can delete it. Not sure why just having regular root sync won't. But in that app specifically it works.
