[Q] Flashing 4.2.X back to 4.1.X - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I think I may have just gotten lucky with this based on a couple of the forums I've read, but I wanted to know how this effects your phone. I've flashed the PAC-man Rom then went back to JellyBean Rom. I've read that you are suppose to flash something to do the downgrade between flashing roms like this.
What is it that you are suppose to flash?
What happens if you don't?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

there is a return to stock zip in sbrissens cm10 thread that your suppose to flash before returning to touchwiz. have not ran any latest 4.2.2 roms so im not sure exactly why that needs to be done.

4.2 adds multi-user support which changes the directory structure in the /data/media folder and makes your user storage unavailable to 4.1.x and prior. The restore script moves it back to the single user style so the older ROMs can see it.

Preciate the responses. I'll go look for that zip to flash.
I must have got lucky then because I haven't had any issues going between roms like that.

Just out of curiosity, would doing a complete wipe, dalvik, factory reset, data and then wiping internal storage after backing up do the trick in lieu of flashing the restore script? Wouldn't that fix the structure once a TW rom is installed? Again, I'm just curious.

data vs dbdata

Hi All. I just flashed GEEWIZ 3.4 SCH-I500 JZO54K JELLY BEAN 4.1.2 from PWGB. I used TiBU to restore apps and most all restored, however, they all act like I didn't restore the data. I can see the files in /data/data/ subfolders. In one case (ColorNote) the data is actually in /data/dbdata/. I copied the ColorNote.db from /data/data/ to /data/dbdata/ and it works.
Why are the data files in two places?
Did TiBU put the files in the wrong place?
Thanks
Tom
As I've thought about this there's more to the story. I don't fully understand what all flashing does. I first flashed a CyanogenMod 10 ROM from CWMR. In his notes he said this
NOTE: This update will wipe your device, and previous nandroid backups will no longer be usable due to the changes in the partition layout. Data partition has been reduced to ~468MB. If you find yourself running low on space, move apps to your sdcard. This is a much better solution than the "datadata" partition trick, and NO I will not be reversing or reconsidering this change. Quit installing so many damn apps if you don't like it

I don't know if this has anything to do with it. I could not get CyanogenMod 10 to work so I ODINed GEEWIZ 3.4 SCH-I500 JZO54K JELLY BEAN 4.1.2.
Could this have anything to do with it?
Oops, looks like I should have posted this in Q&A. My apologies.
Guess I'm alone with this one but enough posts and I can post on the developer forum. I've done some additional snooping and discovered that the program I'm researching is putting it's files in two places simultaneously. There is a set in /data/data/ and the current working data in /dbdata/data/. For all I know that's normal (phone n00b). TiBU backs up the /data/data/ version which is empty. I have not idea whether GeeWiz is doing something or TiBU. Regardless, for me TiBU was useless for this ROM upgrade. I came from PWGB to CM10 to GeeWiz 4.0.

Installing non Touchwiz ROM causing problems.

I tried searching for the answer/ solution but I don't know how to phrase it.
So here goes: Whenever I install a CM, AOSP, or AOKP ROM (basically anything other than touchwiz), my phone memory does a weird thing where it only has the default folders, which are empty, or it makes a root "0" folder and puts all my data (android data, pictures, etc) in there. But it's not like it's deleting the data; the memory usage is still the same, 5ish gigs. But I can't access it, because like I said, it only shows the default folders without anything in them.
Please help
The aosp ROMs are 4.2.2, it has a different directory structure.
Your data from /storage/sdcard0 is still there, it's in /data/media.

Aosp bases handle the file paths different than TW. I think it's an android 4.2.x thing. That is why there is a flash able zip posted with some of the aosp ROMs for downgrading back to tw to fix the folders. If you are running aosp now you're old internal stuff might be in data/media

Awesome! I found it through Root Explorer. Is there a way to go to that directory on a PC?

Use root explorer to copy or move the files to a recognized folder on internal or ext sd

Ahh damn that's going to take forever. Thanks though!
Hey guys,
I about to jump from TW to AOSP, and I am glad I stumbled upon this thread before I did. I just backed up the contents of my internal "phone" storage and the "card" storage (as labeled in Android File Transfer) to my computer. I believe this is only the contents of /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/extSdCard. I am thinking about flashing CarbonRom soon. I will make a backup in TWRP before I flash. If I happen to not like AOSP and want to come back to TW (I am currently on Beans 10) using the backup I made, how would I go about doing that? If I just restore from the backup, will that take care of these file management issues that are listed in the thread?
I just want to make sure that if I miss TW, then I can come back without problems.

There is a downgrade folder zip in a couple of the aosp threads(one is linked below) that you would flash after flashing or restoring a tw ROM.

Mega/Super Wipe HTC One?

Hey all,
Got my HTC One last week, been loving it. Previously I had a SGS3 I9300, and am happy I moved away from Samsung on this generation, for sure. Since I began flashing ROM's and kernels to my SGS3, I was looking for a way to clean up the internal SD card. The solution I found was an Aroma-powered script called Megawipe by zoot1. It worked great, removing all folders and crap from the internal sd card that doing a 'factory' reset won't accomplish... Free'd up 3.7 additional GB's.
Anyway, I was wondering, because I plan on flashing ROM's for the HTC One as they start rolling out, if there was a similar tool/script that accomplished the same thing? If not, could his script be modified to accomplish a similar goal? Any ideas or alternatives would be greatly appreciated, just trying to think ahead for scripts I'm sure people will value. Thanks again guys.
its all the same. superwipe/megawipe is just one app that wipes everything you need if your flashing a new rom. just do a factory reset flash and wipe cache and dalvik and its the exact same thing. and pretty much every custom rom out there now based on AROMA has a built in function to wipe for you if you came from a different rom.
There are plenty of roms and kernels you can flash over on the international ONE forum section. I'm running ordroid 4.2.0 with se7en kernel from there. They have already rebased all their roms on the 1.29 and have intergrated TMO wifi calling and icons into their setups so it should basically feel like stock TMO rom without the bloat lols.
Thanks for the info. It is the same, appears to do the same as CWM / Advanced / Format /data (last option). Thanks again.

Not seeing Files in TWRP

Has anyone had issues where they could place zips on their internal storage and then when you go to flash in my example, a new kernel, i cannot see it in TWRP. When i have CM10.1 flashed i dont have issues. Im currently on NOS sense 5. when i look at my twrp, its almost like its an old version.

Its the same old 4.2 vs 4.1 folders issue. 4.2 uses /0 which twrp uses by default. The other folder is /data/media, where your 4.1 stuff will be. Put your stuff in /0 or delete it when you use 4.1 ROMs and use /data/media instead. Or browse to either one depending on what you want to flash and which ROM it was downloaded on.

Got it. thanks man
Had the same problem with CWM recovery. Scared me pretty good because I thought I lost some important nandroid backups. CM 10.1 put all my new stuff in /data/media/0/ and left my old stuff in /data/media. CWM only looks for backups in the original one (/data/media/Clockworkmod/backup) so TWRP might do the same.

Twrp is opposite, it looks in /0 first.

[Q]InternalSD when flashing custom rom

Good day! I just want to ask some few questions.
I flashed my first custom rom on my S3 which is S4 Revolution 9.1 I used the FULL WIPE option in AROMA.
But after flashing my contents of InternalSD was there, like the flashable zips I put there, the EFS.img, etc.
I want to ask if is this OK?
Does the FULL WIPE function dont include InternalSD?
Or I need to manually format my InternalSD?
BTW, I have backup of my apps in Titanium and NANDroid.
What the wipe does depends on the script it runs, sounds like yours doesn't include the internal sd.
If you want to wipe it then format it manually. If you are staying on the same base e.g 4.2 to 4.2 then just delete the android directory, changing base then I'd format.

I came from stock 4.1.2 the to S4 revolution 9.1 which is 4.3. I choose the wipe in the aroma of the ROM installer.
Does the files from the internalSD can have conflict with my new rom?
