Help Please
My HTC one X+ recently underwent water damage. I took it to a cell phone repair store said it had no visible damage inside.
Bootloader works, Recovery works (TWRP), Boot animation works, everything seems to work.
The issue is that after it boots up it displays a black screen with the notification bar at the top.
I probably didn't give enough info, so don't hesitate to ask for more info.
Hi Marshall,
Do you have any sort of previous ROM backup? Which ROM was on your phone at the time in went "underwater"?
If I was in your situation here is what I would try, if your phone is detected by Windows and you can access the storage naturally.
Reboot in Recovery
Make a backup of my actual ROM
Make a full wipe, (factory reset, system, Cache & Dalvik)
Flash any intend ROM
Flash boot.img & Erase Cache
Reboot
There are some chances that your phone could boot normally. :fingers-crossed:
Recovering deleted photos & video
Hello,
I accidently deleted some pictures and videos on my HTC One Plus X and was wondering if there was some way to recover them. I tried some third party software but none of them would recognize the phone when it was plugged into the computer (although the computer recognized the phone). I looked on the Google Apps store and there are two apps that will do it if it was installed prior to the deletion. So those won't help me. I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know if they have had any luck getting back the deleted pictures and video. Thanks and have a great day.
Jon
Hi jeepdawg90,
It should have a way to, but I have nothing to share unfortunately. This phone is built with a data/media instead of an SD card and this means a totally different way to access the storage and all the usual arsenal of useful tools are ineffective to recover deleted files on this kind of partition. Let's wait to see if a developer can help you. One thing is certain, the less you are using your phone the more files can be restored IF it is possible. The closest I can help you, is by giving you this thread to read.
Pleaase help me!

Hi earprone,
First let me ask if you have a working SDK/ADB/HTC's Driver combinaison tools in perfect working order? If not this is the first step to do, otherwise it will be very difficult for you to recover a functional phone.
Please look in my signature and click to access a tutorial to do accordingly if your are on Windows based computer. Plug your phone on the charger during this time. Please don't hesitate to ask if something is unclear or your are not certain to perform, we are here to help!

Hi earprone,
Which ROM you are planning to install on your phone? Also please do confirm that you have an International (ENRC2B) model.
As for your WiFi and DATA issues flashing the correspondent boot.img of your actual ROM could be the first solution to try.

Im planning to install Vipermod... I do have and international one x+.. i've done the install sdk thing i think im successful cause i can reboot my phone now thru pc by typing adb reboot as you said in your tutorial..:victory:
Hi earprone,
Great, this is a good news.
Let's install your new recovery now.
Download this TWRP Recovery for the International version (ENRC2B) : HERE
Once downloaded to simplify the operation rename your file like this : TWRPrecovery.img
Take this TWRPrecovery.img file and Copy/Paste it in the platform-tool of your SDK folder.
TIP : Since your are in the platform-tool folder you can create a batch file to open a command window right from your Desktop.
Do this directly into the platform-tools folder.
Right click on an empty space and select Create New text document
In the new text paste this : c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
Save it with this name StartADB.bat (important to save it with .bat extension and overwrite the warning)
Now right click again on your new .bat file, and create a shortcut to your Desktop.
Now try to : adb devices your phone via your new Start ADB batch file directly form your Desktop shortcut with your phone plugged on your USB cable.
If you have a serial number as confimation you have done it right!
This a ONE TIME OPERATION TO DO, IT WILL WORK AS LONG AS THE SHORTCUT WILL BE ON YOUR DESKTOP.
Time to plug your phone on your USB cable if it is not already plugged.
Click on Start SDK, in the command window type at the prompt > adb devices (Enter)
Confirmation of the serial.
At the prompt type >adb reboot-bootloader (Enter)
The phone will reboot in bootloader mode.
Make sure the FASTBOOT USB is highlighted.
At the prompt type >fastboot flash recovery TWRPrecovery.img (Enter)
If Success is achieved, type again at the prompt >fastboot erase cache (Enter)
You now have TWRP Recovery installed.
Unplug your USB cable and hit Power button one time.
Select Recovery with your Volume rocker.
Hit Power button one time.
Your phone should reboot in Recovery
Familiarize yourself with it.
Click on BACKUP and perform a full backup of your actual ROM even if it is buggy.
Once done REBOOT System.
This is it, your are ready to flash the ROM of your choice. explanation in the next post. Please do confirm this was successful before continuing.
How to flash your desired ROM
Then the previous instructions were all working as they should and now you want that wonderful ROM from that thread, right?
Once you have selected the ROM for your model version INTERNATIONAL [SIZE="+1"]OR[/SIZE] AT&T/TELUS, simply download it.
Take also the correspondent boot.img that need to flashed just before or just after (doesn't really matter) the ROM installation.
Transfer your ROM.zip at the root of your internal storage of the HTC ONE X+ via your USB cable.
During the is transferring on your phone simply extract the boot.img that match your ROM, rename it for an easier recognition (i.e. Viperboot.img, Eleganciaboot.img, ARHDboot.img, etc) Copy/Paste it in your platform-tool folder (SDK)
Leave your phone plugged to your USB cable
Click on Start SDK, in the command window type at the prompt > adb devices (Enter)
Confirmation of the serial.
At the prompt type >adb reboot-bootloader (Enter)
The phone will reboot in bootloader mode.
Make sure the FASTBOOT USB is highlighted.
At the prompt type >fastboot flash boot insert_your_boot_image_here.img (Enter)
If Success is achieved, type again at the prompt >fastboot erase cache (Enter)
You now have a customized boot.img installed.
Unplug your USB cable and hit Power button one time.
Select Recovery with your Volume rocker.
Hit Power button one time.
Your phone should reboot in Recovery
(!! The following instruction are with TWRP Recovery installed !!)

On the link you gave me (enrcb link) there are 2 files.. should i download both the md5sum and the openrecovery? i downloaded the openrecovery and proceeded to the next procedure, however when doing >fastboot flash recovery TWRPrecovery.img (Enter) on bootloader mode it says "TWRPrecovery.img 'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." What does this mean? Thank you very much
Hi earprone,
To start with MD5 simply read HERE
Did you rename the open recovery correctly?

Hey thank you i've done flashing a ROM on my hox+.. thank you so much for the help! :good: :good: :good: :good:
Congrats my friend!
Never hesitate to ask for help if your are stuck, remember to always backup before doing any modification and have fun exploring all the cool ROM's offered for the HOX+, you will find one that will suit your needs.
Also take the time to rate this thread if you found it helpful.
Lucky Thirteen, you are always for TWRP Recovery and against CWM. I saw it in different threads. As I'm comming from HTC HD2 forum, CWM is soooo native and so close to me. And sure I flashed CWM. But now, after saw several people like you and Loir saying only TWRP... i'm in doubt.
Can you please point me to some info about the difference between CWM and TWRP? Why Loir is saying that CWM is a crap? For me, an average user who only flashes roms and does some wipes are there any difference?
For me, if I don't want to flash Roms, I want to stay on ViperX+ for a several month, can I live with CWM and reflash to TWRP only when I decide to change a rom? (I really hate flashing ) What about CWM and battery charging... I mean if I ran a total 0 of battery, will I be able to charge my phone when it's switched off if I have CWM?
Thanks in advance.

Post 4: How to ADB Sideload a ROM
Alright. This is for everyone who wants to root their phone. I've seen MULTIPLE threads of the same question "Can I root my phone and How do I do it". So I hope I never have to see it again! In this tutorial, I use use my toolkit as the way to root. Doing it manually takes forever and that is why I made my toolkit.
Requirements:
HTC One X+ (charged to at least 70%)
Windows XP,Vista,7 (8 is not officially supported since I don't have the drivers)
USB cable
Ability to read and follow step-by-step
Understanding that I am no way guaranteeing anything. If you screw up your phone, you probably didn't follow my steps and made a foolish mistake.
Let's begin.
Download my toolkit from here.
Link 1 and Link 2
Extract the FOLDER to your C: drive or to your desktop.
MAKE SURE YOUR DIRECTORY DOES NOT HAVE A PERIOD OR SPACE.
Open One X.exe
So now you have my program open. Great.
On your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
From my toolkit, Click 1. Install HTC Drivers.
After the drivers install, restart your computer.
After your computer loads up, open my toolkit and connect your phone to the computer. Your phone should now be recognized.
Now, click 2. Register at HTCDev. Register with a VALID email address and LEAVE the web browser open.
Now, under the commands section of my toolkit, press Boot into Bootloader.
You should have a nice, white, shiny screen that says FASTBOOT USB.
Click 3. Get Token ID. Look at the pop up and it will tell you how to get the Token ID.
Highlight where it says < < < < Identifier Token Start > > > > all the way to < < < < < Identifier Token End > > > > > and right click and it will automatically copy it.
Now, click Submit Token ID. Your web browser should now open a new tab. Scroll down and in the empty box, paste your Token ID. Press submit. HTCDev now emailed you your unlock token.
Your phone should still be in the bootloader. Now, go to the email address you registered to HTCDev and DOWNLOAD your unlock_code.bin. Press 5. Unlock Bootloader. Locate your unlock_code.bin and it will flash it to your phone.
READ the warning. THIS WILL WIPE ALL YOUR DATA FROM THE PHONE.
When you agree to it, press the volume up button and press the power button to accept it. Your phone will now restart.
When your phone loads up, go through the set up wizard. Then, on your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
Under the Extras section, press Perm Root. It will push SuperSU.zip to your phone.
Under commands, press Boot into Bootloader once again.
Now, it is time to flash a recovery. The custom recovery is for 2 different devices
TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is a custom recovery that will allow you to flash custom ROMs, Mods, etc.
If your phone is from AT&T or Telus, then flash the one that says TWRP ATT/Telus.
If your phone is NOT from AT&T or Telus, then flash the one that says TWRP International.
After it flashes, remove the USB cable and have HBOOT selected in bootloader. Press the power button and it will reload to another screen. Press the Volume Down button until you get to Recovery. Press the power button to select it.
Go to Backup and back up your boot and system partition. Always have a back up before you flash or do anything.
After that, go to Install and locate SuperSU.zip. Click it and slide the screen on the bottom to flash it. After it flashes, reboot the phone.
In your app drawer (your menu with all the apps), open SuperSU. If it says the binary needs to be updated, then update it. If it doesn't, then you are fully rooted!
Post 2: How to flash a custom ROM and kernel (boot.img)
The fun part! Now, I will teach you how to flash a ROM and boot.img
Find a ROM you like, the first thing you should do is make sure it is COMPATIBLE with your phone. If you find a ROM that is for AT&T and you have the International model, don't be an idiot and flash it. I will not help you with that since you already agreed to my warning from the first post.
AT&T and Telus ROMs are compatible with each other.
International models won't work on an AT&T/Telus HOX+ and Vice Versa.
Also, DO NOT ASK IF YOU CAN FLASH A ROM FROM ANOTHER DEVICE!
Will it work? NO! Will it ever work? NO! Can I flash it anyways? Brick your device, I don't care. I warned you.
Let's get back on task. So you found the ROM you want to try, so go ahead and download it. KEEP THE THREAD OPEN! MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING AND REREAD IT AGAIN! READ WHAT USERS SAID ABOUT IT AND ABOUT BUGS! GO AHEAD AND READ THE WHOLE ENTIRE THREAD! GAIN KNOWLEDGE!!
Connect your USB cable to your phone. View the folders on your phone. I like to make a folder called ROMs on my phone and transfer it in there.
After you transfer it, open my toolkit and press Boot into Recovery. When you are in TWRP, MAKE A BACKUP!!!
After you make a backup AKA a Nandroid, click Wipe. Wipe Cache, Dalvik, Factory Reset and System. NOTHING ELSE! If you click anything else, IT WILL WIPE YOUR SD CARD AND YOU WILL HAVE MORE ISSUES ON YOUR HEAD!
So you wiped everything. Great. Your phone is ROMless, Yay!
Now go back and press install. Go to the folder where the ROM you downloaded, is located in. Select the ROM and slide the screen to flash it. After it flashes, press the back button. Press Reboot and Reboot into bootloader. Open the ROM you downloaded from your computer. You should see boot.img. Extract it to your computer. Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it.
After it flashes, press reboot from the phone.
Congrats! Enjoy your fully working or borked ROM! Remember, DO NOT ASK FOR ETAs, DO NOT BUG/PM A DEV ABOUT UPDATES, and BE RESPECTFUL TO THE DEVELOPERS!
Post 3: How to reverse everything and go back to stock
Now, let's talk about getting back to stock. There are 2 ways to do this.
1. Flash the stock RUU (If available) (Recommended)
2. Restore your Nandroid (backup that I told you to make earlier)
1. I'll talk about flashing the stock RUU first.
Open up my toolkit and press "Factory RUU" from the links sections. I usually have the most updated RUUs that Football releases on my Dev-Host account. Download the correct RUU for your phone.
Now, back up all your data (pictures, contacts, etc) since this will put your phone back to complete stock.
Connect the USB cable to your phone. Press Boot into Bootloader.
It should now say FASTBOOT USB on your screen.
Press Relock bootloader. It may give you a security warning error or it may say failed. Who cares, ignore it. It's normal.
Your phone will boot up normally.
When the phone is fully loaded. Unplug and replug the USB cable back in the phone. Now,run the RUU you downloaded and follow the instructions.
Your phone will be back to stock.
2. Now, we will talk about restoring your nandroid backup.
Connect your phone to the computer. Open up the folder to view the files on your phone.
From your computer, Go to TWRP -> BACKUPS -> (Your hardware Serial Number) -> (Folder you wish to restore to) -> and copy boot.emmc.win to your computer. Rename boot..emmc.win to boot.img
Open my toolkit and press boot into recovery.
Click Wipe. Wipe Cache, Dalvik, Factory Reset and System. NOTHING ELSE! If you click anything else, IT WILL WIPE YOUR SD CARD AND YOU WILL HAVE MORE ISSUES ON YOUR HEAD!
Press back and press Restore. Choose the backup to restore to.
After it finishes, press the back button. Press Reboot and select bootloader.
Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it.
You are now back to your stock Nandroid.
4. How to use ADB Sideload
You may have seen what ADB Sideload around the forums but have no idea what it is. Since our HOX+ does not have an SD card, it makes things harder when you have to flash a ROM.
Here's a scenario when we need to use ADB Sideload.
1. You accidentally wiped your internal SD and have no ROM on your phone
2. You wiped your ROM and forgot to transfer a custom ROM/have no backups(Nandroid) available.
3, You have none of the above and there is no available RUU for your phone. <----- This is a real bummer.
Here are the steps to load on a ROM
I placed TWRP in my toolkit for a reason. CWM does not support ADB Sideload (as far as I know) and TWRP does.
Boot into recovery manually. Turn your device off and hold the VOLUME DOWN + POWER button together until the BOOTLOADER pops up. Press the VOLUME DOWN button until you have selected RECOVERY. Press the POWER button to get into RECOVERY.
Connect the USB Cable to your phone and computer.
In TWRP, click "Advanced" and select ADB Sideload.
Download a ROM to your computer (if you haven't already done so). Rename it as one word. For example CM10.zip, QX.zip, ARHD.zip, etc.
In my toolkit, under the extras section, press ADB Sideload a ROM. Press "Yes" when it asks you if you are in recovery. Then select the ROM you want to install. It will then sideload it to your phone and flash it.
After it finishes, press the back button. Press Reboot and select bootloader.
Pull the boot.img from the zip file and extract it.
Open my toolkit and press Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and it will flash it.
You now have a ROM on your phone!
and for the hell of it in case I want to add even more.

Rom choice depends on what you want to get out of your device, its not difficult to pick out a couple roms and compare what you think will work best for you.

Thanks,

Will try it when I get back home...

Thanks,

Rebooting after installing a custom rom, a red triangle with an exclamation mark appears with a black background. After a minute or so, it reboots showing the same screen.
Is my phone bricked?
Am I able to salvage my phone?
Edit:
After further research, I think my phone is soft-bricked?
I have tried RUU, but I cannot find the file for HTC__622.
The SD card cannot be mounted so how do I flash a rom?
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Always put it as a priority to make a NANDROID backup of your phone BEFORE any flashing.
First off, try running another custom Rom if you can access recovery.
And report back with the result whether your phone boots or not.

Well done in getting to the bootloader. and in diligently typing out everything that was displayed on the screen with no typos.
Now read through that list of various options again - which one(s) do you think might be of use to you?
Hint: ROMs are usually zip files.
Once you figure that, google for Clockworkmod, and read up to findout what those options help you do. When you find the right one, go ahead and try it out.
Good luck.

With all due respect, as a member of this community I do not like how you are treating newer members. It's his first time, so If you can try to be as nice as possible because if you are in a problem, you would like others to help you without being "sarcastic".
As for the poster. Now I understand what you mean. You have no ROM installed.
Go to recovery, do a factory wipe, Install(flash) zip, and find your rom that you have on your SD card and flash it. Then you connect your HTC to the PC, and Google the following "Fastboot and adb exe" if you don't already have them download them.
Then watch a video on how to fastboot flash boot boot.img
This should get your phone working. HOWEVER if you somehow didn't copy your rom to your SD card before doing your mistake, then you need to Google "ADB push" and read about it.
Hope you have a nice day and hope you can understand what I said . I would have posted links but I am on the phone and battery is almost out. So , best of luck again.

I honestly fail to see what is wrong in my "treatment" here. All forum members have a duty to search first - a forum is not a helpdesk, it is a self-help tool and a knowledge base. I believe my post does point the OP in the right direction, and gives him/her enough information to progress discovery of a solution. I think it helps him/her understand what they are doing instead of just pressing buttons. Sure, it doesnt spoon feed, but in my opinion, doing that only encourages incorrect use of this forum.
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, and please do voice it. Just dont expect me to take much heed of it.
and of course, please do feel free to help others in the way you think you should. I'll contribute in the way I think I should.

I performed a factory reset and then I followed this guide:
"how-flash-roms-without-phone-storage-sd-card-partion" - Google it, I cannot post links outside of XDA
After typing in the command adb shell, I get an error "device not found" I googled it and found out that I need the drivers.
In order to get the drivers, I connected my phone to the computer and HTC Sync manager did not detect my phone.
I think my phone is still charging but the red LED is not on. Also, when I plug my phone in, the computer played a tone indicating a device was connected I'm suspecting. Under My Computer, there is a drive called Removeable Disk. As I click into this drive, it tells me to 'Please insert disk in removeable disk'
I am unsure where to go now.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you.
I have TWRP touch so I don't know the bugs of CWM but I can't charge my phone with my phone off or in recovery.
So, you do not have a rom on the SD card?
Try to reboot by holding down the volume down, don't go to recovery. Enter "Fastboot" and when you connect your phone the computer should install the drivers, if the computer still can't install the drivers, then you can download HTC drivers from the internet. While watching videos on YouTube on how to unlock the bootloader I found people linking a compressed file containing fastboot, adb and the HTC drivers.
Do not panic.
You can not continue with the steps until you install the phone drivers. It's easy to do so, GL.

Try to find here your solution my friend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066390
Twrp is the recovery for using sideload. Find a ROM that's in zip file sideload it. And the boot.img for that rom is normally in the zip file also. Copy the boot.img out of the rom and run it with the tools. Hopefully your luck is there.
Driver package is installed with HTC sync manager, there is no need for the software to detect your phone, nor will it in recovery. Check "Programs & Features" in windows and make sure "HTC Driver Package" is installed.
Also when you connect your device to the PC check device manager and report back what your phone is listed as.
When you use adb in recovery, sometimes you have to wait 5 or 10 mins before device is detected, so connect your device, go out for a walk or something then try when you get back.

Just to add my 2cent. Although your totally right and it's not the community's responsibility to spoon feed noob friendly info to people too lazy to read... You did come across a little condescending in your response. Remember not all people are technically minded and it's clear from the OP that he did at least put so effort into solving his issue.

Hey guys - just an update.
Thanks for the help, but I still encountered the same problems.
I sent my phone back to Taiwan for warranty, and they couldn't fix it. :crying:
I thought rooting voids the warranty, but they ended up shipping a brand new HTC One.
Again for thanks for guiding me, and sorry for the stirrup.

Do you know what gets encrypted exactly You will need to be specific so do some research first :good:
If I were you I would just return it to Elephone because your problem is their fault 100% and not many will share their userdata normally

Ok try to boot to recovery using adb.
1. Start MTKDroid tools.
2. Push the adb button on the bottom right corner of droid tools
3. start your phone while connected to the pc
4. watch to see if droid tools loads your phone info :fingers-crossed:
5. If it does go to the adb command prompt and enter.
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Wipe everything you can from the options in recovery.
It can take a while so go have a cup of tea.

Yes i do that yesterday with the same result and read out over adb :boot.img, cache.img, lk.bin, logo.bin, preloader.bin, recovery.img, secro.img, system.img, userdata.img and proc/partinfo, that shows the memory mapping same as in your scatter.txt, i have check it in MTKDroid Tools.
now i wisch any *.img flash seperatly to the phone with your scatter.txt and show wich *.img is damaged to unbrick my phone.
i ask you to send me any or all *.img from your running phone, so i can test it, but any complet rom also can help.

Verify all backups
Important Note: When you backup the system.img make sure to set it large enough to capture all the data on the partition if unsure just backup the entire system partition
Please use Hex Edit to quickly verify the read backs have captured all data !!!!
See Photo
Free version can be found here: http://www.hexedit.com/index.html
Great online Hex to file size and vice versa (other way around) MB, GB etc is HERE THANKS TO THEM FOR THAT :good:

Connecting the device without battery, despite having installed the drivers Vcom, I see that the device is recognized for 2 seconds then disconnects automatically, then again recognized .. is this normal behavior?

Bro why should I share everything
I use the phone everyday for developing and for personal use too.
It's 99.9% certain that the encryption app screwed the userdata and as I have said I will not share this.
I dont want to factory reset the phone until I have done the with Development work
For you to sulk with me is not very fair I am sure someone will upload a copy to needrom.com very soon now we have the Tool.
still wait for P6000 ROM

bigrammy THX for scatter.txt
(Solved finger trouble) Userdata!!!! Wrong size????
WARNING!!! The Start Address of the USERDATA is WRONG or NOT WHAT I WANT!!! IT will give you a 12GB Backup THIS NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED it also needs to be corrected on the SCATTER FILE!!!
I have noticed while making a Backup of the USERDATA it produced a 12GB backup using the /partinfo information from the phone. This is just a full Phone Backup pretty much. ROM Dump It may be handy to Restore a device but must be wrong for just capturing the actual userdata info
So How do we find the ACTUAL Userdata Maybe this is the reason why MTKDroidTools stopped doing userdata backups in later versions
So I need to do some more digging around.
Any Help regarding this will be appreciated :good:
Panic over guys I forgot to Name the readback userdata.img It seems when you forget to name it eg: leave it as ROM_0 the flashtool will ignore your inputs and just dump the whole ROM. Still 6GB though
You can use this handy online Hex converter which will give you the hex value of a size or vice versa. Here and thanks to them for the easy to use tool :good:

Yes bro you can and probably should readback all partitions manually just once for safe keeping :good:
MTKDroidtools used to do everything for you but with our phone you must do it manually now :crying:
Remember to increase the system.img size to at least 1GB to be sure you capture all the data mine is around 0.95GB actual size at the moment but remember it will increase as you install more things app updates etc etc
I have attached a picture below.

Hi there,
I've done it yesterday so I might as well share my experiences with you.
1. Unlock your bootloader if it's still locked, the SGP311 will only boot Sony kernels with a locked bootloader.
If you ever want to relock or revert back to stock: MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR TA PARTITION, it contains the DRM keys!
Unlocking WILL WIPE the ENTIRE tablet!!!!!
2. Download the latest TWRP image and DON'T use the dd command as stated on the TWRP site.
3. Boot your tablet in fastboot mode, make sure all drivers are installed in Windows and copy the TWRP image to the folder that contains fastboot.exe
Open a command prompt (on the pc) go to the fastboot folder and enter "fastboot flash boot twrp_image_name" ,without the "" obviously
4. Enter "fastboot reboot" and it should boot straight into TWRP.
5. Flash CM12, it's great!
Flash Gapps.
(Make sure it's on your tablet before starting this entire procedure)
Enjoy!
PS: This is what worked for me after I've f*cked up my tablet, I'm not responsible for any damage, data loss or wathever.
Regards
i will try in a bit, Thanks! if something goes wrong do you mind me messaging you to ask questions? you are the only one who replyed

No, go ahead but keep in mind I'm no expert, merely an enthusiast.
A few tips before you start:
-Make sure you have Flashtool (By Androxyde) installed and have a working FTF file for your tablet, this saved me when I messed up.
-If it goes wrong, don't panic, as long as the light next to the power button still does stuff (flashes, changes color...) you're fine.
-And most important, try to figure out what went wrong and why by yourself.
Sure, I also opened a thread but figured it out before I got replies.
Good luck!

Glad to hear that!
Have a nice evening!
Regards!
I would like to know how to upgrade to a new ROM (Lollipop or better) on my Verizon HTC One Max with the option to return to stock. Software Information: 4.4.2, Sense 6.0, 3.09.605.3, 6.20, 4.60_002, 15432, 5
I was told to use (and did) Sunshine and then downloaded SuperSU from Google Store (per very detailed instructions and was told to not choose TWRP when the question popped up to choose one or the other (common/normal?)).
My phone is now UNLOCK and S-OFF as well as Rooted (but I'm having a lot of problems with blank screens, etc. and even had the black screen with the red ! in a red triangle (and I don’t know how I got it to boot up again (pushed pwr buttons, vol +/-, etc.)). However, that is as far as I’ve gotten. Confused am I.
I don’t know how to flash; however, I’ve been trying to figure it out, but I’m lost.
I’ve downloaded a lot of files from other threads, but the instructions, while detailed, didn’t say HOW to flash or add TWRP where I (a NEWBORN NEWBIE/NOOBIE) could understand, etc. Is there a place where all this is together?
Am I out of luck or would someone PLEASE help me fix and upgrade it with the option to return to stock if needed? I would love to have Sense 7.0, if possible. I apologize for such a long post/thread.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!
P. S. My phone is now Prepaid Verizon (was Postpaid). Don't know if that matters. I have pics of the files I downloaded from one of your great guys, but they are on my computer. Not sure how to upload. I AM GLAD THAT I FOUND YOUR SITE!!!!!
@LoveSpock I am going to make this short and simple...
First off the Verizon Max software only goes up to 4.4.2. If you want to upgrade you'll need a custom rom which is why you S-OFF and unlocked...
You will need to get familiar with fastboot commands. Google is your friend on how to use if you don't know how to. Here is the link to the TWRP image for your device. http://flyhalf205.com/recoveries/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.7.1-t6univ.img Once you get fastboot setup you will type in the command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.7.1-t6univ.img Make sure you have everything in the same directory when executing the command.
From there you are free to wipe then flash anything you would like. Wiping will delete your data so text, contacts that are stored on local phone(not sim or google) will be deleted.
@Flyhalf205
Thank you for your response and instructions. Does this mean I don't need to do anything to the SUPERSU that is already on the phone (and what it did)?.... Following your instructions will wipe everything?
I'll definitely need to take out my sd card. I've saved a ton of stuff on it. ...and backup my contacts and text messages.
I have some more googling and try to learn what you wrote for me to learn. I'll also have to find out what ROM to use....
Your Padawan thanks you.

Shouldn't worry about supersu. Most custom ROMs are going to have that prebuilt into it. Once you get TWRP we will go further into detail about how stuff works.
If you use twrp no need to take your SD card out just go to setting and unchecked SD card and like lovespoke said make sure to dl the right file you can dl right fastboot files here on xda just search it
Hey! Don't mean to hijack the thread but I'm in the same boat. I've never rooted and I'm looking to root my Verizon HTC one max. I'd also like to maybe install a custom Rom but I'm a noob so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. Ok so it's my understanding that sunshine will root, s-off, AND unlock my boot loader? Btw I have no idea what those terms mean. Anyway, if someone could please confirm that about sunshine, it would really help me out. I've already downloaded and installed sunshine on my phone but I haven't paid the $25 yet.
Xx Moe, I strongly suggest you READ the various threads on XDA about unlocking bootloaders, gaining S-OFF and rooting. You can easily brick a device and there's much less support for the Max now than there was when it came out more than two years ago.
I don't believe Verizon HTC One Max's can be rooted without unlocking bootloader/gaining S-OFF and the exclusive method for that is Sunshine (unless you know someone with a Java card). Once you're bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you can then "flash" any partition on the device and that's how to brick the device.
Once you are bootloader unlocked and S-OFF, you start by flashing a 'recovery', which is usually the latest version of TWRP for the HTC One Max. Don't flash a recovery for a different device. (Google "Team Win Recovery Project"). Once you have a custom recovery you can "wipe" your device and flash a new ROM.
Wiping deletes all data, or some data, depending upon how you wipe, and there are not very many Verizon HTC One Max ROMs out there that are fully functional. Check the threads, one sticky thread has a listing of ROMs.
Finally, I don't believe anyone has gotten Marshmallow going on a Max, so expect the "best" you'll be able to do is a Lollipop ROM or a Cyanogen Mod equivalent.
Awesome! Thanks for the super quick reply. So yes, sunshine will s-off and unlock boot loader. That seemed to be the million dollar question since (like you said) the one max doesn't have very much support anymore. I'm definitely going to keep reading the forums because I don't want to brick my phone. I've also been watching some tutorials on YouTube. Everything (so far) seems pretty straight forward now, but you can never be too careful. Thanks for your help hgoldner!

Hey flyhalf, is there a thread on here on how to learn about adb fastboot, and flash the custom recovery for noobs? I cant seem to find it. I'm trying to install a custom rom on my htc one max but this is my first time ever rooting/unlocking an android. Ive searched the site but i cant find a tutorial on how to install the custom recovery or learn about adb yet. I have sunshine already on my phone but i havent used it yet because i want to know exactly what im doing before i pay the $25. Any help is appreciated. I already know how to get into the bootloader by pressing the power and volume down buttom at the same time while the phone is turned off.

I'm heading to bed now. If I get time tomorrow I'll try to explain. If not we can setup team viewer and I can just set your computer up for you.

Download the platform tools and the android usb driver. Don't need anything else.
But basically if your s-off yet. Boot into HBOOT. Power off phone and hold down both power button and the volume down button. Select fastboot using the power button. Your computer should hopefully automatically pick up drivers and call the device "My HTC" in the device manager. If not you'll need to go in and manually assign the downloaded driver using the link above to the Android device in device manager.
Download twrp image file into the same directory as the platform tools downloaded to. In windows, right click while holding down shift anywhere on the white blank area in platform tools and click on "open command window here".. From there you will type in the command fastboot flash recovery recoveryFileName.img
If it says waiting for device. Check device manager and make sure the driver is installed right.

Ok, so if im doing this correctly, the twrp img should be in the platform tools folder and my computer should recognize my phone as "my htc" as shown in my attached screenshot...

I've been out of commission... Sorry about the long wait.
I'm sure you've been very busy.
I found the fastboot.exe file and placed it and your twrp file into a folder on my desktop. Before I run fastboot and add your twrp img file, what would the next step be? .... I don't have have a ROM yet to add to the phone. Should I have that first? Would you please direct me to the right one for me? I noted in one of your replies to another member that there isn't a Marshmallow one, yet.
Do I need the ADB file?
Thank you,
Your Padawan.

Would you recommend uninstalling the HTC program that automatically picks up the phone?

I forget if you were s-off or s-on but you will need to be s-off or your bootloader will need to be unlocked.. You don't need a rom just yet. You could flash recovery and flash root for starters. But once you get it flashed we can start on what to do next.
Update...

Sorry... I started the thread back in January. I've been out of commission and starting over.
I had used Sunshine to S-off and Unlock. I used SU to root. I knew nothing about flashing or fastboot and am still learning. One of your original responses to my original post said that google was my friend, so I googled per your advice and found some information on fastboot.
I don't know what flash root means in your response above.
You had also gave me the link to the TWRP image for my phone. You also wrote "Make sure you have everything in the same directory when executing the command." I've added 2 of the pics again as well as one of your img file in the directory I created when I loaded Android Studio.
The Android Studio I downloaded is the latest. Does that make a difference? I did find info on this site about a minimal adb and fastboot. Would that have been better?
I'm imagining my phone will be out of commission until the new ROM is installed, right? (See how I'm still such a Newbie/Noobie!)
Thank you!
Your Padawan
