[Q] Stuck on boot-up logo - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Just curious if anyone has had the same problem as what I've experienced, and wondering if my phone is worth salvaging or is it toast?! I put my phone on the charger for the night and turned it off, when I tried to start it the next morning it just hangs on the Samsung Galaxy SII logo, that's it. I did have it turn off by itself quite a few times several days leading up to this, but I thought it might be just a software glitch. I've done all the usual... take the battery out, wait for an extended amount of time, tried another battery, all with no luck. The phone does allow me to put it into download mode and I tried to flash something on it using Odin but I get no progress bar on the phone and it appears like nothing's happening. Does this sound like something that can be fixed? I had data on the phone from a vacation and I'd be upset if I had to lose it... but I guess that's life. Any thoughts? For the record, it's never been rooted and I have had it just over 1 year. It came with Gingerbread, I updated to ICS, and then most recently Samsung (or At&t) pushed an update to the phone that added a few enhancements. Is all lost?

All is not lost. If you're not rooted, flashing stuff through Odin won't do anything anyway. Read the threads on how to root, then flash the ROM of your choice and the data from your vacation should be there. Hope it works out. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll try to help if I can.

Oh, so flashing with Odin is pointless until you root first?! I guess that explains why nothing seemed to work. I'll see if I can root this weekend and maybe I'll be on the right track. Thanks! One site I've been to which explains how to root the GSII i777, has a link saying it's for my phone but once I get to the page, it's for the International version. I seem to be having a hard time finding the correct root method for my phone with ICS. Thanks again for the tip, I'll get it a try!

Dude what are you saying? You can use Odin regardless of root or not. As long as you can access download mode and flash the right file in the right slot it will work

I misspoke I believe. It was late, my apologies. I guess I read he was trying to flash something that you needed root for. What do you think then? Personally I think he's still ok, but since odin wouldn't take it might be best to root. What are your thoughts?edit- I know what I was thinking about. He's trying to reflash his ROM(I think). Doesn't he needed to be rooted to do that?

First, can you get to recovery? You would either need to hold down all three buttons or use ADB. You can get a portable version from my signature that includes batch files to take you to recovery or download mode.
Can you flash something simple like a modem through Odin? Can you try any other cables?
What I'm trying to rule out with these steps is that your NAND chip is corrupt and no longer writable. If so, your phone is toast unless you have some sort or warranty. Samsung warranty would replace it if you are still under their warranty.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium

Yes I can get to download mode, but have been unable to get to recovery. I'm not too familiar with ADB, but I can learn quickly. My son tried to see the device with ADB a week ago but failed, but maybe he didn't know exactly how. I'm no longer under warranty, so sending for repairs is not really an option, I'll root in a heartbeat if that helps me get the data.

Yes it was galaxys2root, I thought they would have instructions on how to do it, but like I said... it was for the international version.

I'm thinking your right about the NAND chip, I'm not exactly sure where to look for modems etc to try flashing.

Modems are here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361393
You'll have to pull the file out of the zip file.
Download mode with no recovery and nothing flashing through Odin sounds like a bad NAND chip.

once you put it to download mode, before pushing the volume up button, start Odin, then push up. See if Odin sees your phone. in the top left box on the app screen it will turn yellow and throw out a COM number or address. If it does you may be able to use Odin to flash a stock rom. You may be able to use Creepy's OneClick downloader.

Have you downloaded the usb drivers to your computer so that it recognizes your phone? I had that issue once. Good luck

Yes Odin shows the yellow bar and gives me a com address, just can't get anything to flash... I'm starting to lose hope. I'm getting the GSIV when it comes out soon, but I really miss my GSII and the data I had on it.
Thanks for the tip, I may try a few more things... just not too hopeful on the outcome.

If you are getting the yellow bar in Odin, you should be ok. Don't give up hope that easy! There are a lot of smart folks on here that are beyond patient if you are willing to do your part and research what you can first. Have you tried flashing a safe kernel like el26 stock cwm? Make sure it's the.tar or Odin won't be able to "see" it. And remember to click on pda, find the tar, flash, and when it reboots, you'll be stuck at the boot up. Pull battery, reinsert, and try to boot into recovery(hold power and vol up button down until you get into recovery). See if that does anything. Good luck

Yes I have the drivers, Odin almost looks as if it's going to work, but flashing hasn't worked yet.

It shows the green progress bar going up on Odin, then that's the end. No progress bar on the phone, no restart, nothing. Maybe the sdcard is corrupt?

I've had that happen before too. Come to find out it was a bad version of the el26. Try to find another safe kernel tar, el29, perhaps. Go to rwilco12's repository and download Chrisg41's el26. You will probably see its a different file size than the one you got. There is a bad el26 .tar floating around out there. Flash the one from the repository, see if that helps.

Sorry for being a semi noob, but when I downloaded the CWM-EL26 file it was named "StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5", I was assuming to rename the file "StockCWM-EL26.tar". Is the .md5 file extension a type of zip, or did I assume right?

Don't rename it, if it's zip, it'll say zip. If you renamed it that might be your issue.

Has anyone tried Odin flashing cwm-recovery-all.zip?
It was designed to work on many phones but also integrates voodoo for those kernels that can use it.
I don't see why it wouldn't work but I am no development and without a recovery image available from sanding I don't want to kill my player.

Could you give me a link of what you are talking about? never heard of it before, bit I would be willing to try it.
i just checked the sdcard on my mesmerize and i was incorrect, the name is cwm-recovery-all.zip - you can also google that and get tons of download links from places like mediafire.
it is CWM or Odin flashable.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...-clockworkmod-all-roms-updated-3-30-11-a.html
it was actually found here but here is a link for another place that has a link for both cwm flash and odin flash versions.
frankly i have not even seen anyone post how to get into recovery or how to get into download mode...
but of course adb should easily be able to do both.
Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob to android, How would I flash this? You say you can flash it using cwm but isn't that what we are trying to get on? I have no idea how to use Odin and would appreciate help.
Edit; where do I even download Odin?
Could I just do this manually with root explorer? looking inside the zip it seems possible, but would I have to do anything with the "META_INF" or "kernal_update" folders, or are they only for flashing?

nope no manual install. its a flash.
and google is your friend dude.
just look for something like Odin 1.3 or higher.
but i use 1.3 because i have a Galaxy S 1 phone. (samsung mesmerize)
and i am gunna warn you, there is a good chance this will brick your Player.
and since Samsung doesnt offer a firmware download, you are screwed. i dont think even Kies would be able to fix it.
downlaod the cwm-recovery-all.zip (or you may download a tar file i forget
unzip it, and inside is cwm-recovery-all.tar inside of it is recovery.bin. (dont unpack the tar file.
odin is easy. just put your phone into download mode. (via adb - adb reboot download )
plug it into your pc.
open odin - it should say something is recognized or added (meaning your phone.)
click pda and choose the cw-recovery-all.tar
then click start.
once again you could easily kill your Player by doing this. - atleast until someone figures out how to
but if I do brick, can I use a backup rom to fix it, or will this screw recovery mode= no possible fix?
Edit; looking at that thread, it seems this is for 2.2, I have 2.3.5, I think that is a good reason for me not to try this, sorry! I'm chickening out.

yeah but it works fine on my mesmerize and it uses 2.3.4
best case is it says failed when Odin tries to flash it.
and where you going to get a backup rom ? does Kies do some sort of full back up ?

Well, odin recognizes it even with it not being in download mode, and I figured out how to compile my recovery rom, so it is currently flashing, will let you know what happens! Keep your fingers crossed!
EDIT: it gave me "FAIL" please help! I am using odin 1.3
It seems to fail at recovery.bin, maybe mine is corrupted.
If someone could post theirs for a 4.0 u.s. version, I would appreciate it!

for above problem.. i managed to flash back to my stock rom.
1. download your stock rom from samfirmware (2.2/TTT version in my case)
2. download odin3 1.85.
3. flash using pda button
worked for me.
ps. i had mine bricked due to checking partition box, using above method fixed it.
Last time I checked, samfirmware didn't have it for U.S.
Also were you able to get yours into download mode, if so how?
Also about my post above, I just mean the recovery.bin file, not whole rom.

I don't know exactly what you mean, but I backed up; system, kernal, and recovery. I put these int a .tar.md5 file with cygwin, and when flashing with odin it fails as it gets to "recovery.bin" wich leads me to believe that is the problem.

Can Odin be used more than once? I am getting a message with yellow triangle and can only boot phone into Odin. I cannot seem to find a working valid MD5 file either to restore stock.the one posted here seems invalid when checked by Odin.I was going to reflash beans106 build 1 since that seems to be my only option.i wonder how verizon would like me showing up with a phone to reflash.

Use SirVilhelm's post for the Odin flashable and make sure you are using the Odin exe from Adam's bootloader unlock thread. Or flash Revision 3 instead of the full stock image. I borked my phone slightly and this worked.
Uncheck auto reboot, and after it finishes unplug and pull battery and wait for 10 seconds so it doesnt keep going back to odin.
Report back if it works at all

your getting corrupt downloads because of something on your end...That's the part your failing to understand... you keep saying "oh well that don't work for me"....ok but there must be a reason. All those files and methods that have been provided work for everyone else including myself. Take a step back make sure your doing everything correctly and make sure your pc is clean and no viruses...again its something on your end.

QUOTE=Rebel908;35850464]Use SirVilhelm's post for the Odin flashable and make sure you are using the Odin exe from Adam's bootloader unlock thread. Or flash Revision 3 instead of the full stock image. I borked my phone slightly and this worked.
Uncheck auto reboot, and after it finishes unplug and pull battery and wait for 10 seconds so it doesnt keep going back to odin.
Report back if it works at all
EDIT: Imnuts file does not need to be unzipped. Use as is.

[Q] Verizon note II bricked & bootloader locked

So I rooted my phone with oden, the next day I see my phone is promting me to download an OTA update to "fix vulnerabilities" so i download it. ( I know, I know, I really wasn't using my head...) so the phone resets and I get a warning saying "this phone has unauthorized software installed, please bring to the nearest verizon store for assistance."
so I tried holding volume up, home and power to get to the bootloader.... and nothing...
what can i do? do I have to wait this out, or am I going to have to get a new phone?
Download mode is volume DOWN home and power
File section 1b and make sure tout get the alternate download from the download link

No, hold volume down, home and the power button to enter downloading mode for the purpose of flashing files using ODIN. You'll need the stock PIT file and updated bootloader baseline files to restore your phone, which you can fine here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107738.
When you get it back download vodoo root keeper and backup your root with it. Then you should be able to install the ota and restore your root

You have to be able to boot your phone for this to work.

Odin doesn't see PIT file, how come?

You need to add the PIT file to the PIT area otherwise it won't see it.

Since your want to come in here and bump this thread with a smart a**remark let me clear. The op is asking how to fix his phone not what to do when it's fixed. Is great advice but why don't we help the guy freaking out fix his phone.
By the way op did you fix it?

Thank you for the heads up, but what they are saying in that thread is above my skill level right now... It would be awesome if one of you guys could break it down for me, but it seems that they're saying in the thread that there is no proper solution yet.

So is your phone fixed? If not you don't need the pit and baseline, that's to unlock. You need to file the thread I linked you to. Droidstyle guide is very easy to follow. Just make sure when you download your file you get the "alternate restore"

Ok you'll need to download two separate files. This one is the stock Verizon rom: http://d-h.st/waO that imnuts posted. DL that and put it in the PDA section in Odin then hit start and let the rom flash. Once that's done download the PIT file here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?05cj895zu3tls7z and put this file in the top section that says PIT and his start and allow Odin to run. After you flash both you should be back to stock with a working phone. Btw you get to download mode by holding vol down + home and power at the same time and once once you get to the screen warning you about a custom rom press vol up. If you need more help let me know.

No he doesn't it will fail at sboot like I said. Also you flash the pit and stock at the same time not in two separate flashes.

Okay well using separately may work but you should do it at the same time. Also you're right the pit isn't for unlocking. I haven't used the new method all I just knew the baseline was used unlocking and linked the pit in.
Now that I've wasted time explaining that it still doesn't change the fact that flashing the dock image will fail at sboot. He still needs to follow the directions I told him in the very beginning.I'm also more done here because he won't listen or had and won't tell anyone and people keep telling him wrong and then giving attitude to me trying to help him. As a matter of fact this entire user base is full of a bunch of trolls and really getting irritating.

Taken straight from that thread just below the picture, please revisit that paragraph......
Here's the bottom line up-front
Samsung has inserted code to blacklist our baseline and mitigate our exploits in the bootloader patch they began pushing out last night. You will need to flash the updated bootloader baseline and stock pit in order to restore your device to operational status. The How-To Unlock your Bootloader thread is invalid at this time.
I'm having the same problem and can't get into download mode

Hi there,
Could someone please help me. I bricked my phone 3 days go and went through odin and root66 stock to unbrick it. I installed CWM and backed up everything, then i purchased triangle away to reset the flash counter. When I did that I got the software not authorized by verizon error screen. It won't let me get into download mode or recovery. What should I do? I'd really appreciate some help today is the 5th day I have been trying to fix my phone, only to make it worse. Does anyone know what would happen if I took a rooted phone to verizon, would they be able to help me?
Thank you in advance
Still will not reboot - to stock

1)try different ODIN version and see (also ensure to Kill all 'KIES' processes on ur PC while running ODIn and also temporarily disable any antivirus software running on ur PC)
2)Try diff USB port/Cable and see.
Yep. Search.
'Odin flash fails/Odin won't work' gets covered dozens of times here on a slow week. Search for similar threads, there are a set of troubleshooting steps you need to try/keep trying (That I'm never posting here ever again, tho if you ask Hopper nicely he might regurgitate them for you).
Edit - And if people did the right thing & made these lazy people search for these threads rather than regurgitating **** over & over the world would be a much better place.

I believe NAND Write Start stuck cannot be fix>?
Nand corruption sometimes pop up due to drivers conflict or odin being unable to write in your device's memory.
Why? Because the usual suspects:
Usb Cable
Usb Port
Odin version
Drivers conflict (another pc/laptop would be wise)
Antivirus

I need some major help PLEASE!!!!!

So call me a super noob but I cant for the life of me unroot my dang Note 2. Ive read forums and threads on how and I dont know what my deal is. I dont know how to get odin on my laptop. I search and search to download it but cant find a way to download it. Im on a different pc than the one I rooted it to begin with because the old pc is stupid slow. I dont have supersu on my phone right now cuz I was screwing around with my phone and a friend of mine said I could unroot the phone by going into the supersu app. So I dont have su binaries. I dont even know if im rooted anymore. Im on scotts ROM the 4.1.2 version. I do have CWM recovery still tho. All I want to know is a step by step process on how to get odin onto my pc, and go from there on. And yes I have read forums about how to unroot but none say anything about how to install odin. I feel really dumb but I really need my phone unrooted ASAP. I have a new phone and tranferred the SIM card over to it....do I need to have the SIM card in my Note 2 in order to unroot it??? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help a bro out

Download Odin (it's just a simple windows program). - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576
Make sure you have the latest samsung drivers - http://www.mediafire.com/?hzlnda0l5t8qyes
To use odin later all you do is power down the phone and boot back into download mode (volume down, power and home at the same time).
Open Odin, plug in phone...Odin should recognize the phone and you will see the com port noted in yellow.
From here you can follow these instructions to flash back to bone stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207

The download is compressed so you need to extract it (unzip). I am not familar with Zip opener but it probably works like the others (7-zip, etc). Just right click on the file and choose extract. Then you should see a normal application you can open.
