Friend of mine recently upgraded to a Galaxy S II X. I never heard of this model before (only just the S II). Provider is Koodo in Canada.
Questions: I know it has a more powerful dual core 1.5GHz processer over the regular S II dual core 1.2, among other things. But I'm curious to know if anyone else here has one of these? What do you think of it? I notice there is not specific forum section on XDA for this device either. Is it pretty much the same as an S II in terms of rooting/installing ROM's etc.?
Thanks in advance.

T-Mobile SGH-T989
Yes, it's exactly the same as the T-Mobile t989 s2. There's a forum section for it. Great development going on.
The "x" is the Telus / koodo Canadian version. But all the T-Mobile roms work on it. The t989x from Telus anyway, works best with the tlle4 radio for Telus. I think koodo has a radio. I've found any of the T-Mobile radios don't seem to work as well.

Get the international version i9100 or i9100P (has NFC)
Sorry do you have 4G network in Jordan?
@Nyssa1104 thank you man for reply international version has 1.2GHZ but t-mobile has 1.5GHZ why international are better i dont know if we have 4g but i certain that we have 3g
Definitely get the international version if you're planning on using custom firmware.
There seems to be a lot more development that has happened/is continuing to happen for this variant as opposed to the others. But as Nyssa mentioned, if you can get one (international) with NFC (so you can use it as a virtual wallet/tap to pay, etc) why not
@MistahBungle thanks man i didnt understand you so i will rewrite the question in another type if i bought a T-mobile can i unlock it to apply our Sim (orange, zain, ect) and what is the different between international and T-mobile
I honestly don't know if the T-Mobile version will work in your country or not (I have international version). The T-Mobile has slightly bigger screen, different processor, 4 touch buttons, support for 42mbps data speeds, and supports 1700mhz UTMS...This is all as far as I know. You might want to do a bit more research about the features yourself.
You might want to ask your carrier if this phone will work on their network or not before buying it.
thanks guy for help but i have a little question to people who used the 1.5 and 1.2 processor is there a big different between them
Are you sure you don't want a Galaxy Note? I wouldn't buy SGS2 now, when GN is out.
But if you get one, get the international.
AFAIK it's the same processor, only OCed a bit, what you can do with a custom kernel aswell.
T mobile sgs2 uses a qualcomm snapdragon which is based on the cortex A8 vs the A9 in the exynos and as such is slower clock for clock, so the 1.2ghz exynos is faster and has a better CPU.
I would go for the i9100, it supports GSM (2g) 850/900/1800/1900 and 3G 850/900/1900/2100 so make sure it will work on your network.

PS, I was bored so I checked the networks in Jordan, and as far as I can tell, they use 900 and 1800 so at least it will work on edge/2g and should work on 3g (old thread where someone said they are using a at&t iPhone 3g there on 3g fine, and the i9100 covers the same 3g bands) but I can't find any hard info so I can't be 100% sure.

I recommend buying the International i9100 BUT make sure it isn't the i9100G. It's far worse than the original i9100. Aside from that the AT&T SGS2 looks good too

No, there isn't. Nothing you're gonna feel in day-to-day usage.
So I bought a new SGII 1777 for a really good deal. Brand new out of box, etc. Anyways, T-mobile is my carrier. I was able to root the phone and unlock it. The strange thing is that now that my T-mobile SIM card is in this AT&T phone, I am not getting 4g. I am only getting "E" coverage. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432. Am I missing something? Is it firmware? Kernel? currently, kernel in phone is 2.6.35.7 with Gingerbread.UCKH7. I'm in the US, so if any of this info helps my cause please assist. Any advice/help/suggestions are welcome. Thanks XDA!

Your on E and you will continue to be on E. The AT&T phone dosent support 3G/4G Tmo bands.
You won't get anything faster than Edge with an att phone on T-Mobile. Hardware is the cause.

The exception would be some of their LTE phones reflashed with a T-Mobile radio. Pretty much Skyrocket and Note and that's it.
This is because AT&T uses 1700 MHz for LTE and T-Mo uses it for 3G, and other than the radio firmware the T989 and Skyrocket are almost identical.
Right now, with the exception of the above cases and the international unlocked Galaxy Nexus (which is pentaband HSPA) - only T-Mobile USA phones will get 3G on T-Mo USA. There may be a small handful of other exceptions, but very few non-Tmo devices support 1700 MHz.
Some research could've prevented this. Or just buy the phone made for T-Mobile.

thanks for the quick responses everyone. I just sold the phone for more than I bough it for. Going to get the T-Mobile one like I should have in the first place
Just curios how much did u sell it for? New or used when u bought it?
Hi a friend of mine wants to trade his Galaxy S II for my Evo Shift. I'm pretty sure it's worth the trade but before I do I wanna know what's possible on it first.
What all carrier(s) can the Galaxy be flashed to?
What's the best performing/fastest carrier available?
And is the flashing process easy?
Thanks in advance

What country? And what model of Galaxy S II does he have? What carrier did he get it from, if any?
There are over a dozen different models of Galaxy S II, and they are all different. Some are GSM, some are CDMA. Some have LTE, some don't. So what carrier the phone will function on will depend on what model it is.
EDIT: You say you have an Evo 4G Shift, which makes me think you are on Sprint, in the US. Is he also on Sprint? If he is, then the Galaxy S II he has is not the same as the one this forum is for.
THIS forum is for the GT-I9100, which is a GSM phone... which means it works on AT&T and T-Mobile (but only with Edge on T-Mobile) in the US.
The one from Sprint (a CDMA network) is the SPH-D710, also known as the Galaxy S II Epic 4g Touch. (Its forum is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281) If this is true, then I've heard you can flash the Epic 4g Touch to other CDMA carriers (like Cricket, Verizon, US Cellular, etc)... but I don't know the details. If he indeed has the Epic 4g Touch, then you would be better off asking in the forum for that device.
Ok I was not aware of that. But yes it is a sprint version which would make it CDMA. I didnt realize there was a difference between carriers. But thank you anyway for the help!
I just dont know which one. Its for my girl. These will be tmobile phones in this decision which will be on simple mobile.
Right now i have the lg g2x which is unlocked/rooted/running hellfire 2.2 Rom GB 2.3.3 and i love it, battery life sucks though.
What do you guys think about htc 1s vs galaxy s2? Or should we get galaxy s3?

Since you're asking for a comparison to the HTC One S, seems you're asking about phones for T-mobile USA?
This particular model of Galaxy S2 is not the model for T-mobile USA, and will only get Edge mobile data speeds on that network.
I'm guessing you want to know about the SGH-T989 .

As I said, the T-mobile USA Galaxy S2 is a different model. I linked the forum for that model above.
See wikipedia.
The i9100 (which this is the forum for: look at the top of the page) doesn't have the required antenna hardware to receive 1700 mhz UTMS, which is a required band for AWS. (the other frequency bring 2100mhz) T-mobile USA uses AWS for high speed mobile data.
So, the i9100 will only get Edge on T-mobile USA's network.
But if you don't believe me, just type "i9100 t-mobile edge" into google.

Ok i get what you are saying now. You scared me for a second there. I thought you meant "this model" as in the one i was referring to. Ok well while we are on the subject, isnt there something that can be done to the phones to switch the antennas like installing a new radio or something, or is it an actual physical piece of hardware that runs off different mhz to get 2g/3g/or 4g?

It's hardware. There is nothing you or anyone can do to the i9100 to get high speed on the T-mobile USA network with that phone.
If you want a Galaxy S2 model that gets high speed on T-mobile USA's network, you want the SGH-T989. I linked the forum for it above.
And back to your original question......
Get one S
Or S3..
do make sure one S is the Qualcomm S4 not the S3 with 1.7 GHz model.
HTC making one S with older processor after S4 shortage.
So I'll be getting the AT&T GS3 and was wondering how the dev community will be compared to the international version. Obviously I would expect there to be more support for the international version. However with my AT&T gs2 I was able to run all the ROMs developed for the international gs2 on my AT&T gs2 because they had the same hardware.
This not being the case with the AT&T gs3 having the s4 dualcore w/ lte instead of the exynos quad core I am wondering how much ROM development will take place.
Why would there be any difference? There are no apps that are made specifically for quad core Exynos as far as i'm concerned.

The Development for the US version should be great i suspect since 5 carriers are all getting the same variation (dual core S4). You should not, how ever, try to use the development from the international version since its running a different SoC (quad-core) and would more than likely brick your phone.
On a side note: Will there be a differnent thread for the US Version/s? cause this could get really cluttered if not

I'm not talking about apps I'm talking about custom ROMs, mods, kernels, and such.
