Tried to root but stuck on boot screen with yellow warning sign. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I tried rooting my samsung galaxy s2 (international i9100) using the method where you flash a new kernel containing extra root privileges however it is now stuck on the boot screen with the yellow warning triangle and will not load. I can enter download mode but not recovery mode. My original kernel contained XWLPT. Any help will be greatly appreciated as this is a reflectively new phone (got it in January)

Go into download mode, connect to the pc. Open odin on pc and put a odin flashable kernel in the pda section.
Use a siyah or dorimanx kernel which works for your rom.

I'm sorry for sounding like a noob but would it be possible for you to give me links to these as I am scared I will mess up again. And how will I know which one ,matches my ROM?

There's a thread in General section (near the top; it's stickied) with all the guides/tutorials you'll ever need.
With regard to finding the right version of Siyah or Dorimanx to match your rom, search the threads relating to these two kernels; you'll normally find this info on the first page. If in doubt, ask in the discussion thread related to whichever kernel you want to use (not in the dev thread).

hope it helps

I think the OP already tried CF Root...

Sent from my SGS II

CF root was hot back in the GB days, ICS has got zip flashing, ExynosAbuse and the all mighty siyah v5.
JB is all about custom kernel flashing.
Overall, Mobil Odin Pro is the best - and safest - way to root by enabling everroot feature.

[Q] New phone. Best approach to root and go to ICS? (version problems?)

tl, dr: brand new SG S2. Want to get CF-Root v5 CWM5, CM9, Siyah kernel 3.
I've been reading a lot of threads here lately, but I'm still confused about some things.
I'm new to android, but not so new to most concepts mentioned as I'm a linux user.
So I have a brand new SG S2 and want to root it and install CM9 (ICS) in it.
But before that, ideally I'd like to backup my phone (rom + efs). But to do that I have to flash CF-root, which itself modifies the stock kernel. So I'll lose my stock kernel.
1) Any work around to this? In linux?
My understanding is that this will get me the yellow triangle. And on CF thread he explains how to get rid of it. But the problem is that I checked the stock kernel thread here and I don't see my firmware there.
(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)

My firmware is PDA: I9100BUKG2 and PHONE: I9100BUKG1.
Do I only need to care about the KG1/KG2 reference? And which one is more important the PDA or PHONE?
So for example would XWKG1 do the trick?
There is also the issue of CF-Root upgrade. For my phone only CF-Root v4.1-CWM4 is available (I have PDA *KG2 and PHONE *KG1).
2) So after I flash CF-Root v4.1-CWM4, get root, backup my phone with CWM and k-tool, can I upgrade to CF-Root v5? Or am I stuck to v4?

Other kernels
Replacing CF-Root with other kernels and vice-versa sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't have a list.
When going from CF-Root to another kernel, root will usually stay, while CWM will be lost (unless the other kernel also includes it), but there should not be issues. The CWM Manager app may remain, but probably won't do anything useful.

3) Does this means it's impossible to upgrade to CF-Root v5 or to use the Siyah kernel?
How can I solve this?
Sorry if this post is somewhat confusing, I'm a bit confused myself
Thanks for any help.
Pmed u dude
Mod or Die
1.) There are a few BUKG2 on samfirmware.com. Not sure which one your provider is though. Once you upgrade to ICS (CM9(, you can use the triangle away in the original development thread to remove the yellow triangle and reset counter (works only for ICS) so that is one option for you.
Regarding the kernel, go under settings, about phone and see what it says under kernel (KG1 or KG2).
2) Once you root and get CWM, you can just flash a different kernel with the updated CWM to get v5. You could also just install the siyah kernel from V4 as it comes with its own version of CWM.
3) You will be fine with flashing most kernels from CF-kernel. Most kernel for the i9100 in xda includes CWM or sometimes its own version of CWM.
I used zergrush exploit to root my gf her i9100 with 2.3.5. Used root explorer to grab efs directory.
Then i had root so i could use mobile odin. Now phone is on litening 4.0.3 ics rom probably still with gb bootloader.
No triangle yet
Gonna flash ics bootloader through odin and move to cm9 nightlies tomorrow.

The zergrush exploit requires
(1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
Click to collapse
What exactly does this mean?
Do I need to install the SDK? Or do I only need the adb executable file? Or is there any SG S2 specific file that I need to download?
Thanks
EDIT: in linux it only requires setting up a udev rules file
developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html
Also went with the zergrush, and after that kTool to flash CF-root CWM kernel.

I have completed step 4. But when it reboots it gets stuck on the reboot screen with the yellow triangle
HELP PLEASE?!
I was told that I need to find my original firmware, and use Odin to install it?
I don't even understand what that is
Can somebody please help me?!
Would be hugely appreciated!

Are you sure you have the GT-I9100 model of Galaxy SII? (check on the label under your battery)
That guide (and this forum) is only for that model.
If your model is NOT GT-I9100, then that is your problem.
Right, go to sammobile.com and sign up. Download a stock ROM for your phone (providing your phone is the GT-i9100). Download Odin and flash the stock ROM. If you don't know how to use Odin, search for Intratechs firmware thread, it tells you. Once flashed the new firmware, go ahead and use Chainfire's CF-Root to root your phone. Job done.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
You'll need to flash back the stock kernel or a stock firmware. I've put below some links for the kernels and firmware.
I've uploaded stock kernels here. - Thanks Intratech.
These are the stock firmwares, just look for one for your region.

Easiest method:
- Root your device here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
- flash Siyah kernel or SpeedMod afterwards.
*** READ THIS***
- You must change your kernel from a stock/stock- based one. This is because there is a brick bug on your stock kernel, if you do factory reset on your stock kernel in CWM recovery after rooting, your device is gone

I forgot something in my first post, should i use Odin or CWM recovery mode? I see there is some recommend Odin and some CWM recovery, but as i am new to all this i am not sure what to use, i found a guide for Odin, but not for CWM. I also read something about a counter will increase if i use Odin, why is this bad for me?

Odin will increase your counter.
Use my method to root. you can then flash a custom kernel via CWM recovery or mobile Odin which will not increase your counter

There's no bother on Binary Counts as you can reset it using Triangle Away .

if you boot your device in download mode, it will show you 'custom binary counter' or so.
The counter is 0 on a new device but will increase each time you flash a custom ROM/kernel/package not signed by Samsung via Odin.
If you go to a service center to claim warranty, the first thing their engineer will first check if the binary counter

I understand what you are writing about stock kernel, but then which kernel should i switch to based upon the details i have posted in my original, could you post link to recommended kernel? I am so new to this that i need to be teaspoon-fed with details, there is so many ROMs and Kernels out there that it is a jungle and the more i read the more confused i get all about this. I read one thread, which again link me to another thread. I think this task or what i need to accomplish should have taken less then 30min(?), but has probably driven me for 3-4 hours. Nevertheless, i enjoy doing research
I like to keep my phone as stock as possible, but with root access so i can gradually remove things i do not want or install other programs.

I would try the SiyahKernal, everyone will advise you to test ROMs out for yourself.. not everybody is the same and prefers different ROMs.

Everytime I flash a rom in Odin it fails.
Followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
Managed to flash the kernel (KI3) but the rom fails..
Can enter download mode but not to recovery mode
Any advice?
I9100 ?

Flash lsj (phone, code & CSC only).

Hi,
Since you have GT-I9100G, i would recommend posting this in the Q&A thread in "GT-I9100G Android Development" section (It's in the Samsung Galaxy S II forum just a few steps down from this Q&A section)
Tell us if you fixed it by going there

Thanks for the reply,
Does it matter which stock rom? i mean there are many countries and different versions in sammobile.
Also I already tried some kernels, is there a a way to wipe them away?
Thanks
Yes, it matters.
I9100 & I9100G don't share the same hardware.
Almost everything meant for I9100 won't work on a I9100G neither the other way around.
Flash this.

Boot into download mode (phone off - then home/volume down/power), download stock rom for your carrier from Samfirmware, flash it with Odin. How ? Thread stickied near top of Q&A (I gave your thread 5 stars for the title).
