[SHARE] Make Stock Based ROMs Run Faster - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello everyone.
I am using Sony Xperia U. I love the Sony UI much more than CyanogenMod because it is more stable and beautiful but it lags after I have installed a few apps that are resource hungry. This is one reason why I switched back to Gingerbread on my phone (view more reasons). But then I realized there are many apps on the Play Store that require Android 3.0+. I was left behind in the race. So again, I installed a stock based ICS custom ROM. As usual, it started lagging again.
Why does the phone lag? Because there are a lot of apps running in the background and eat up a lot of space. You can not run more than 2-3 apps in the background using Xperia U. So I came across this beautiful app called Greenify which is pretty awesome and does its job just as it says.
After I installed this app, I could see tremendous improvement in performance of the ROM. Greenify hibernates the apps that run in the background when you are not using them. A few examples of the apps I Greenified:
Make sure all these apps are user apps. If they are system apps, either convert them to user apps or uninstall using Titanium Backup and install from Play Store.
Facebook (I don't want any notifications).
Whatsapp
Dolphin Browser
Super Backup
Facebook Messenger
Viber
Tango
Google Maps
Google+
There might be a few more I don't remember. You can ungreenify Whatsapp or Viber when you are using them.

Greenify does not consume much battery and takes only 2 MB of your RAM.
Download From Play Store | Read my review of the app
Please don't tell me you already knew about this app. I am just sharing what is useful. Instead you can add up something I might have missed.
If you didn't know about this app, please press Thanks button.

Stock roms are also bloated. There are debloating scripts out there on the development section.
Debloat + Greenify = Fast ROM.

One question, do i have to manually un-hibernate the apps if i have to use it again?

No. If you want to use it, you can just start the app and it will un-hibernate itself. You can open Greenify and ungreenify apps if you don't want them to be greenified and if you want them to run in background as they normally do.
It is similar to hibernating your PC when you are not using it. It saves battery to a great extent by hibernating the apps.

Yes it really a nice apps

(Wanted) option to hide apps in the stock launcher

Question for all you devs out there is there anyway to mod the stock launcher to be able to hide apps from the app draw like in go launcher ex? I love the stock Sony launcher but hate all those horrible app icons in the app draw especially the ones that run in the background and there's no need for them to be there, can anyone recommend a solution??? Much appreciation for any help

If you want to hide stock apps, disable them from the app settings screen.
Thanks for your reply K900, I tried that and it stopped the app from working completely, rather than just removing the icon whilst retaining the apps functionality, any other ideas??

That will be difficult to implement properly without having the source.
Use this app ccswe app manager.

You shuould try Apex laucher, give it a try
Disable
Just disable them in settings, apps, all,
Top left corner, disable.
The disabled app will not show up in the apps menu.
Not all apps can be disabled, but most of them.

Only the two of them gave a helpful answer. WITHOUT root, no CAN'T hide ICONS from the STOCK launcher. However, you can, WITH root, hide them, using the app recommended by victore88.

if you have rooted mobile freeze the app using TITANIUM BACKUP PRO so that icons gets disappeared from menu and defreeze it to get the icon back
I believe the OP is only looking to hide the icon, for example, Simple Text App when you purchase it you also get a second Simple Text Icon (purchased) . I believe its the second Icon that is not required to be visible. (I only used Simple Text as an example). OR like with Simple Text, I only use it once to create the icons but won't need to use it again for a long time. So again I don't need it taking up space..
To answer the OP. No, I don't have an answer apart from an other launcher - Go Launcher etc.
You can use Advanced Xperia Launcher.
It's closest to stock as possible and there are many options that Sony (for some reasons don't want to
to add).
I know this thread is old but many guys are trying to find a solution so - there it is...

Little question about battery!

Hi guys, I wanted to know if, with this rom + kernel combination, my battery is good and, possibly, to know which applications kill it.
So I have to go on settings/about phone/battery use, right? And how can I see which apps kill the battery? Because here I see only cell standby, phone idle and display...And how can I know if these percentages are too high? thanks
Basically, the apps that kill android's battery are the ones which have wakelocks."Battery use" in settings won't help you see what apps aren't letting the phone to go to deep sleep, but you can see how much time your phone didn't sleep. You can use betterbatery status to see what apps are sucking your battery life.Example:facebook xD

Exactly. Pretty much any social networking app, eg Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc, that runs in the background even after being "killed" will eat up your battery.
Thanks everyone

You don't actually use it. You mostly read and interpret the data it stores on what uses the most battery life and then you act if you want on those processes.
The app begins to store data as soon as you unplug your phone so the best way to see how it works first hand is to let it run a day or as long as it takes for the battery to go down (I have heard of some o1 users that need to recharge their phone after 3-4 days of use) and just change the first roll down option. You'll figure out what uses the most battery.

That is not the thing my friend.
Many users here keep changing rom and most of them have to download the apps once again and again
So to save their data and most of all time this has been made just flash it and you are done!
No waiting to download and then install and stuff. Choose what you download and then also choose what you install and all of those without MUCH waiting

[APK] Facebook Home beta leak

A pre-release version of Facebook Home has leaked ahead of the planned 12th April Play Store release date (also the release date for the HTC First 'Facebook phone').
The build itself (pulled from a pre-release HTC First ROM) seems to be rather buggy and incomplete (I can't get 'Chat Heads' working for example), but it's interesting to have a play with to see what Facebook has in store for us later this week.
In order to use the leak, you need an Android device with a maximum resolution of 1280x768 and the ability to completely uninstall your existing Facebook app. This is important, as the leaked APKs are re-signed and can't just be installed over the top of an existing installation. This will automatically exclude some devices which have Facebook installed in the base ROM. If you're on a Nexus device you're good! Even if you do have Facebook in ROM, provided you are rooted there are workarounds - i'll detail these in the comments. If you have any problems installing post below and i'll help if I can.
The leak itself is 3 APKs - the main 'katana' Facebook app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid), the now-integrated-with-your-SMS 'orca' Messenger app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid) (orca) and the 'home' Launcher shell app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid). Simply install all 3 and you're set - bear in mind you do so at your own risk!

Has this started working again today?
EDIT: this katana apk won't log in
The home apk won't do anything if you use any other katana apk.
If anyone gets a better setup, I'd love to try it! Facebook Home doesn't list as available to download from Play Store for me (ICS 4.0.3)
Can someone tell me how to un-install the beta version? I now can't install the real version of Facebook Home - it treats the attempted install as an update and I can't figure out how to install. Thanks.

Google Launcher

Anyone have success with the new google launcher dumped from kitkat. I tried it and really like it but can't get google now and search to work with it. Im just throwing it out there to see if anyone has success. The link is below. I am on an AT&T SGH-i527 rooted with locked bootloader (so no custom roms).

The KitKat camera?
This is a unofficial leak from nexus 5. You should only install the three apps stated in the article. The others are not stable on other phones.
Article qoute-
To install the new launcher (Google Home), you’ll have to install 3 different apps – Google Play Services 4.0, Google Search, and the Google Home .apk
The other apps may or may not work on your phone. I kept my stock camera.
Hope that helps.
I would delete camera spp and install mega stock camera. Just unzip attached file and place in system>app folder and reboot.

I installed a whole heap of KitKat and it was the camera that was the stumbling block.
I then had kernel issues so have shelved it for now.
