Most hardware-friendly Android version for this phone? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

Sounds like a simple question, but yet, I can't answer it for myself.
- FrozenYoghurt or the FRX07.1-Release seems to be the one, that has been developed for the longest time and is very stable because of this.
- Gingerbread or GBX0C is my favorite for now, but as I got more and more apps I had to resize my data.img some times now and with more than 1GB data.img it becomes unstable and very slow.
-perhaps GBX with newer kernel might be more responsive?
-or might even be an ICS be the fastest for our good old touchpro2/tilt2?

Sorry, this is kind of like a "best ROM" thread which we usually close down before they go sour between advocates of different ROMs. The best thing to do is try the various ROMs out until you find the one that best suits your needs.
Good luck,

just a small request to some of the cooks on these here forums

Hi all
first off let me just commend EVERYONE on xda-devs for the work they have put in to make this such a great site/resource/info store
I've been using xda-devs ever since i got my very first htc voyager device, then onto various other smartphones and then i discovered the wonderful world of ppc, way back with himalaya, through to magician/charmer/prophet/wizard/hermes and now of course, RAPHAEL!!!
if you've gotten this far then i thank you for listening to me rambling on
my request is simple:
Is it possible to add a poll to each of the threads for the roms with simple 'criteria' like:
Is this rom FAST
Is this rom STABLE
Good rom?
not so good rom?
simply because, i am hoping this will help avoid some of the most common 'what rom shall i flash' question and also it will give some sort of pointer as to some of the main points of the rom
its just a suggestion, i'd love to know what you all think of it and if it ever comes to fruition!
many thanks to all at RAPHAEL!
My Opinion: No
All the 4 points you mention are subjective...
The only way to find out is to try it yourself, and if that means flashing different rom's
and restoring your favourite programs, use UC or put them together in a directory on your sd card.
You can always get an idea by scrolling trough a thread, that's what I do with 30 messages on a page
Each ROM is very different, and a poll wouldn't work. Just the poll in the radio flashing thread, it doesn't really mean a lot as it's all dependant.
It's worth spending the time and flashing as many ROMs as it takes to get the one you want. I've flashed over 15 ROMs trying to find one I like...
Not only is it subjective, it is quite frankly dumb (if you'll pardon the term)
Every chef endeavors to produce a quality ROM, if bugs appear, they are usually fixed fairly quickly with an updated version (hopefully). Every ROM is a work in progress and the only time the Chef finish it, is when he becomes tired of attempting to improve it.
The best you could ask for is a poll in a separate thread that asks for what ROM you are running and if they follow up post with what they like and don't like about it. However, you will find Flashing Junkies here that will often flash a new ROM weekly if not more often... There would need to be a new poll every week/month and who has that much time.
Having recently purchased a Fuze myself, let me tell you what I did here as a complete newbie:
Sized up the available ROMs and prominent chefs using the wiki and this forum.
Scanned through threads here to figure out who was doing what.
Looked up the various chefs to see what else they've done here at XDA
Made my decision.
As a chef myself, I can say that everything is subjective. There really is no simple way to find the best ROM. The good news is that I found what I was looking for in a single evening.
I think its a descent idea if the Chefs put each new ROM Version in a new thread. If someone releases version 1.0 and it is buggy they may get a bad poll rating. Then by version 2.0 it may be the best ROM ever, but due to all the early bad ratings it would make their overall "score" low.
Anyways this isn't a competition. If we start ranking and voting on the best ROM, it would make other ROM makers give up. People would say ROM-ABC and ROM-123 are the 2 best ROMS and no one can top them. Then all the other Chef's give up and we only have 2 ROM choices. Then these 2 ROM Makers have no competition so their work gets stagnant and they only release new ROMs ever 6 months. Then before you know it we are living in the world of Microsoft and Apple.

Looking for the fastest ROM. No funky business...

I've been using Xda Dev. for years now for the several HTC's I've had, and you have been a great help and source! So first of thanks to all the guys who put the time into all of this! Great job!
I'm using a bit older (it dates 10/20/08) M-ROM 1.70 (ROM 5.05.405.1 NLD) right now, which works fine but is a bit buggy (setting the alarm screws up your clock, and opening/closing the keyboard automatically shows the today screen, which is very irritating, and voicedailing works crappy). So I thought I'd check for a new ROM.
But what frustrates me most (with any HTC i've had) is that a newer phone, with better hardware only seems to be slower then the last one (I honestly believe my first HTC compact responded faster then my currect touch pro...) It's almost like Vista I think sometimes, all the faster hardware is compensated by too heavy (graphical) software. My HTC touch pro has really never been as fast as the youtube demo's I've seen (switching orientations, opening programs etc)
So I'm really looking for the fastest, cleanest ROM available now, and not the most complete touch3d, filled with funky programs etc. ROM.
What ROM would you recommend (preferably NLD / dutch)?
Thanks for the help!

Great, thanks for that valuable input... I'm not too lazy to go through the forum and scan the pro's/cons of the various ROM's and not looking for 'the best ROM' (which I agree is a pretty lame question), but I'm looking for a lite/clean and fast ROM for this phone. The answer 'each ROM works different on each phone' I find hard to believe since they're all the same (pretty much) hardware right?

Not at all, each contains many different tweaks and installed stuff. Mine is fast but full of stuff. Try each of them out and see which suit your needs
Cooked ROMs published here are usually full of stuff, even though they're quite fast. If you're looking for a simplier, plain ROM I suggest trying the stock 5.11.205.2 Fuze ROM (very fast and more stable than every Windows 6.5 so far). Or maybe cook something simple with Da_G's kitchen by yourself. I'd recommend 731 build. It's not difficult at all, I assure!
the only funky business here is your thread. DON'T start a new thread just because you are too lazy to read and search. There are plenty of good roms around, with lots of descriptions available. SEARCH and if u have questions about a specific rom post in the APPROPRIATE thread. Mods please close this thread
As has been posted everywhere "best/fastest roms" threads will be closed.

So which is the best ROM (list) ?

Many different ROM's have been cooked for our TG01's now and each ROM brings a new experience / something different. I've personally tried many ROM's on XDA just to name a few theres nosker's, ffboy's, mirom's, and stonrom's but i cant seem to stick with one since im always looking for something better. Now to be fair i dont think any ROM is final yet since theres still alot to be done with our TG01's but i and im sure others would like to know which is the best ROM to use at this very moment.
Now we all use our devices for different things, i personally use it for a bit of everything - browsing the web, checking my email, gps tracking, checking the weather, and of course phone calls ! I seem to find browsing the web needs alot of RAM though so ideally im looking for a stable ROM with plenty of free RAM. I do like sense but from experience its just impossible to get a stable browsing experience with sense installed so im willing to sacrifice those nice looks. My personal favourites have been noskers rom and mirom which has an amazing 96MB free so im likely to be going back to one of those next unless anyone can recommend a better one.
An ideal solution to finding the best ROM would be to post your own experiences with each one, what you've personally used it for ie browsing the web. So im going to suggest we do just that ! Ill be keeping track of this thread so when time allows ill add a list below with our favourite ROM(s) specific to device useage. ie best rom for browing the web, etc. I think its a good idea anyway .

For some time now we have been closing off "Best Rom" threads. The reasons for this are well known.
In addition to those reasons, asking what is the best rom is akin to asking 20 people what the best beer is; you will never get a single agreed answer from all of them. Its about personal need, personal choice and preference, which can only be defined by YOU.
If you are unsure as to which rom might suit you best, read the first couple of posts of each thread posted by the rom chef. That tells you all you need to know about a particular rom, then list the attributes and decide which ones you would like to try out.
I thought I would post this up here so that there is an awareness, especially amongst new members of XDA Developers, and to help those who wish to pose this question.
Best rom threads will, in future be simply deleted without further explanation.
Please help us to help you by not putting up posts that have to be deleted.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in this matter.

Thanks for updating me on that i wasnt aware of that rule but it does make sense ... if a mod feels its right to close this thread please do so i just thought a thread for everyones favourite ROM would be a good thing. Each ROM would get a mention in the list for what its best used for according to the posts here and would be updated regularly. I havent seen a chef post what there ROM is best at so i personally think this is needed and it would save others having to try all the ROM's on here like i and others have done ... i guess its like a musician or an artist, a chef cant tell you what there ROM does best, only the users can.

[Q] Almost ashamed to ask, but what are the "top" ROM's?

I browsed through the development section and there is SO MUCH STUFF THERE. :/
Even if I read it all I would still not really get a good answer to my question:
What are the most popular, consistently maintained and stable ROM's out there that aren't heavily themed (I like AOSP or close, not MIUI)?
I've used CyanogenMod on my Nexus but it's still in experimental phase for SG2 and I don't really want to start off my new uberphone with broken stuff.
So far from what I've gathered is that Villainrom is at least consistently maintained, but their website is almost devoid of any information in regards to looks and features.
Batista70(?) also sounds like a relatively popular choice?
I realize this sounds like a completely idiotic question from someone that's too lazy to read, but honestly to answer this question you can't just read for a few hours, you need to have been around the community for a longer time to get the feel of everything.

You are correct if you want an honest opinion look yourself try them their are a billion users asking the same question with the same answer their is no best rom .
Why not start with the simplest rom that you understand what's on it and how to flash it .
Then work your way through others .
jje
Atm, i think the best roms (no one over the other, they all good the same)
Batista70 Foxhoud 2.0
Villainrom 3.0
Leomar 2.7
those are the roms i personally tested, and looks like also the most "used" by the community.
Im sorry if i didnt listed someone else rom, it's only because i didnt tested personally.
All the 3 are KI3 (2.3.5) based, so they may have few bugs/instability since 2.3.5 is less than 1 week old.
For the KH3 (2.3.4) every rom is very stable and works fine, i personally tested:
Cognition 1.5.1
Lite'ning 6.1
Checkrom v3
If you want a not perfect (few bugs) but totally different rom, i suggest you to try gangsterjoop Miui 1.9.23 or Galnet Miui 1.9.23

That was actually more a roll of the eyes to this type of question. It gets answers like yours (no offence meant) where people just tell you what they use. Not many people have done extensive testing of every single available ROM, but people still keep asking these lame questions.
Also 'best' is very personal, unless one gives certain criteria.
I agree I'm new here and the selection is daunting. I've HAD,
HTC Tattoo
HTC Desire
ZTE Blade
Moto Defy
HTC HD2
Sony X10
This phones section seems even bigger than the HD2 forum!
Ephumuris
the best rom out there with regarding battery life and looks is..................
the one that will suit your needs and that YOU have to find out and experiment buddy.
its all good for us to tell you which one is good but unless you dont try for yourself you wont know..
but if you want a choice i recommend VillainRom or Batista two that i use back and forth or even CheckRom
but whatever you do make sure you read through each roms thread and take it from there...happy flashing

Gingerbread vs Ics!

Ehi guys, what do you think about?
Wich is the fastest without bugs?
Ics or Gb?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
There is no definitive answer to that question. There are so many different roms & kernels both GB & ICS, and there are also so many variables with regard to phone setup/use.
'Fastest' is such an arbitrary term when used in relation to smartphones.
For example, fastest could mean overclocking. Overclocking is dependent on your CPU; all CPUs come out of the factory differently - some can be overclocked to 1600MHz, some can't.
Or fastest could mean performing a particular task more quickly, or 'smoothness' (which is a stupid XDA Android fanboy fap off term). Which is subjective and impossible to get a handle on due to so many variables which determine any measure along these lines.
Getting the idea ?
What I'm hinting at, the only way you're going to find the answer to your question is to use a bunch of GB & ICS roms and make your own mind up. With CWM it's very easy to backup/restore & flash roms so it isn't difficult for you to do this.
I'm sure you'll get people who will post to this thread & seemingly give you the answers you're looking for. I'd advise you to ignore them. Because your experience with GB/ICS/a rom/a kernel will not be exactly the same as someone else.
please, not another one of these fail threads.
if you want to know the difference in features, read up on it on wikipedia or the google android site.
if you want to know, which one is faster and better for you, give them both a try and compare.
also, there is already a thread of a very similar name floating around the general section.
and may i remind you that there is a rule not to ask, which rom is the best?
i say GB is for GAMERS and ICS is for MODDERS just an opinion of mine
I flash to ICS once and couldnt stand its pack of stability and tweaks but it's been a long time ago so i guess it' much better now, I still stick to GB thought.
If you are not interested in fancy looks and are a simple user then GB is a perfect choice, stable.
If you want to have a modern look, new unique features then try ICS, but it's not stable now
