Hello everybody,
This is my very first post on here and im new to android phones after having iphones for years.
I have a galaxy s3 and im keen to get it rooted so i can start doing some crazy stuff on it, more because im a bit bored and hacking is cool, lol.
Any step by step guides for beginners. And i do mean beginners. Some of the terminology used on here is baffling.
I look forward to many more posts on here.
Cheers in advance
Jim

first you have to root it with Odin....
you need this... http://go.android-hilfe.de/v1/redir...n.html&cache=6M7D92TQIROG9CER78KG5PRCFURLI7CP
and this https://androidfirmwares.net/Tools/Download/8
start odin.... choose PDA and the File you download: CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar
start your S3 with Power+Home+Volume Down.... and the security question you answer with Volume up
dont forget to connect USB Cabel
look at the Picture... it must be all like that

and then klick on start and wait
Odin say it to you when everything is finished. the window at odin will be blue...
Cheers for replying.
Looks like a simple enough process.
Could still do with a lengthy guide on dos and donts. Some of that went straight over my head, lol.
Anyone post a link to a rooting sticky for noobs?

to root is very simple... and all you have on the phone stays there...
i am sorry that i dont write perfekt English... and all links i have for root S3 are all in German....
i tried to write as good as i could....
I used you tube to confirm written directions to root and it so easy to do when u watch it first. Just search root glaxy s3 and it will bring it all right up for you if I can get a link I will

Hello people!
I'm with a big problem here. First, I'm a newbie on Android, but I searched a lot before do this question. Ok, I bought a SGSIII some days ago, and I did a root on it. So, I wanted to change the resolution of cell phone: I edited build.prop to 240DPI, and rebooted the phone.
But so, Samsung's TouchWiz stopped working! And I can't access Root Explorer anymore... I installed Android Tools on my PC, and I tried to push, remount, use adb shell (+su, +mount on system partition), but nothing works. I ALWAYS find a new error. For example, after mount the partition in the shell (and exit, of course), I got "Permission denied" on adb push. Just see:

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Adb remount command won't work unless you flash an insecure kernel or use insecure adbd app from chainfire. If you can boot into your mobile and getting launcher force crash better push a secondary launcher app like apex or nova via Adb and reboot now use the second launcher to make changes. Stock launcher will jot work @ 240 dpi

i think this is the best option...
get any flashable zip..uynzipit and look at it...youl qquickly get where to put build.prop and what to modify... then compress it (without the old signature) again and sign it
launcher keep crushing because stock touchwizz doesn't support another dpi. you should mod it or find one moded

I installed CM 10.1 it was perfectly perfectly untill next day i wasn't getting phone signals so I decided to get back to stock rom XXLPQ 4.0.3 but now I am not getting phone signals and also basband and kernal is missing. need help how I can sort it out.
Post a screenshot of your device information. What do you mean baseband and kernel is missing? Also, try flashing a new modem if you are experiencing a lack of signal. Refer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950

i use dsixda's Android Kitchen build rom.the resource is from RUU.
it can't flash to my phone with ClockworkMod_Recovery_6.0.2.7.when it is begin, the phone reboot.
Now i use ClockworkMod_Recovery_6.0.2.8, it works well
Honestly it could be any number of problems. I have found that its some what easier to flash the RUU root the RUU then use adb pull and pull everything from the phone then build the ROM from that. Just my 2 cents.

Ill never understand the mentality if people like this. My school is full of kids who ask how to do everything instead of doing their own research.
Most of the time, the information is already available to them from material right in front of their noses. Yet they still want to be spoon fed.

How much experience do you have in java? I'm guessing none. I've been into android for about 4 years (theming), learning java for over a year and I still won't attempt to dev a Rom. In other words, really learn this stuff before you brick your phone or worse, someone else's phone. If you can't debug your own work, you're a lost cause.
