Are you installing from the "apply update" options? When i want to install a rom, I use the wipe dalvik\cache (and rarely data\factory reset), the i use the "install zip from sdcard" option and then the "choose zip from sdcard"... If I'm wrong: Are you sure that you hasn't modified the "toggle signature verification" or "toggle script asserts"?

I've tried tu use the kitchen and i've got a new idea... The script used for update is UPDATER-SCRIPT or an UPDATE-SCRIPT? It's possible that's the problem!

I think you must before DeOdex and then Zipalign......although I think it is better an odexed rom......

So ya with my lack of knowledge about making roms and such ( i can mod anything, just not make the mod :silly: ) I will just sit back and wait for someone with far more knowledge to make this happen. Also I have flashed back to stock krnal and stock(rooted) android....but i cant get rid of the "samsung galaxy" boot logo from the CWM flash...any ideas?

It is for any froyo rom without wipe. It is just stock FRF85B, if you want root on it, there is an optional update.zip to flash.

Did u check md5sum ?
By "Any Froyo" do you mean "Any" or "Any Stock"?
Edit - Nevermind, I see.
It's the repackaged FRF85B, stock, and a rooter for said rom. You can install it over a custom rom, but I don't believe you will keep any customization from that rom.
running kang o rama, frf83... will i be able to update this? If so do I just return to stock rom?
You can update from ANY Froyo ROM.
It will give you a stock FRF85B but will keep you user data (installed apps, apps settings, android settings)

coming from stock & rooted FRF83 with Amon's Recovery. During the "writing BOOT..." stage i get this:

E: Error writing BOOT
E: Failure at line 72:

I dont think it matters but do i have to rename the file update.zip before flashing??

Try to redownload and check md5sum before flashing.
Running the latest Kang-o-rama and updated and now i have a WIFI error, also a data error
ALL GOOD
I am running custom recovery.
I was on Paul's pre-rooted FRF83.
I flashed your 72mb update-nexusone-FRF85-stock-noradio-signed.zip
Rebooted (straight back in to recovery, probably not necessary but just playing it safe)
I then flashed the 2.85mb update-nexusone-FRF85-root-signed.zip
I have rebooted and am now running FRF85B with root access.
I saw someone mentioned data/wifi issues. I tested both my data and wifi connection and both are working fine.
With you would have made a pre-rooted FRF85B to save a step, but regardless, thanks man!

Hey guys!
The ClockworkMod recovery has been released. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787168 Check out this post and do what it says. Once it is finished go download ROM Manager from the Market and update your recovery! I will have a rom out ASAP after I get it tested :] If you wanna test email me at [email protected]
Which of those 3 zip files needs to be flashed ?
So does that mean that samsung reviewed and fixed the code they released or was there something that the devs were missing when trying to build the kernel?

This is not built from source, this is a duct taped together version of recovery, it should work for now though.
I've got CWM running on my Fascinate! =)
Too bad it doesn't mount the SDcard and it places nandroid backups in /data, but it's a start. =)
Do we flash it in ODIN using the PDA box ?

good stuff!
Very exciting news.. Looking forward to coming home and giving it a try.. at least making a full nandroid backup.. I've had to rebuild this phone from scratch way too many times now.
I'm not really clear on the instructions.
I have downloaded the captivate_recovery.zip but I'm not sure how to proceed from that point. Am I using Odin?
This isn't working for me, I flashed the tar file in ODIN and then installed clockwork from rom manager. When I click reboot into recovery it loads up a stock recovery and gives some errors under it.
Update with more info:
When I reboot into recovery from RomManager I get
e: failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I'm thinking this means the ODIN flash didn't work correctly
Maybe someone could post clear step-by-step instructions?
what tar file cheeto. all i'm seeing is three zip files, that when unzipped have no extension. a little help?

You flashed a new recovery kernel with the clockworkmod recovery binary. I'm confused why you would try and install again, on top of it, from ROM manager? (Don't take that the wrong way.. that's not an "OMG Why would you do that?!" It's an "I'm not following your logic".. )
Re-do your initial step (flash recovery via odin) and that should be it, unless I'm missing something here.
and for those of us still out of the loop... how do you flash the recovery via odin? add a .tar to the file in the zip? rename the .zip file to .tar? help us out please.

Hang in there, I know it's frustrating. Let us get some more feedback on this and how it's working before the steps are broken down so that anyone can follow along. The last thing we all want to see is post after post from people who did this not knowing how to fix their phones if something goes wrong.
If you're confident you know what's going on, the posts are there, in the Fascinate forum, on how to use odin. Feel free to check them out.
BE CAREFUL EVERYONE. there are quite a few issues with cwm still, It doesn't detect the sdcard, so you wont be able to flash a backup. and you can only get into recovery by rebooting into recovery through rom manager.
I am trying to flash the new FXP rom on my Xperia P but i keep getting this error :
Code:
format() expects 4 args, got 5
E:Error in 'location of the zip file comes here'
(Status 7)
Any idea on how to fix this ??

You have wiped system.
Do never wipe system. It is used to verify that you are trying to install it on the correct device.

The first error is because system has been wiped, so it will only help, if the assert has been removed.
What you could do, is to try to temporarily install a ROM, that does not check for what device it is installed on.
When that is done, are you able to install the FXP ROM, as the other one will setup a new system partition.

You may not wipe/format system.
The installation does need system, so make sure that it is installed on the correct phone.
So never wipe/format system yourself.
If it is needed, will the install script do it by itself, when it is needed.
Ok, and there are no issue with older files Which maybe not cleared during Installation when going from gb to ics?
Thx

Do you have a custom recovery such as clockworkmod recovery or TWRP installed? If not the only way to whipe dalvik cache is to do a factory reset in the stock recovery. Before you install a custom ROM you should install a custom recovery.

No problem man glad to help, but yes "recovery" is for recovering something when something with your ROM goes wrong, but it can also be used for basic maintenance functions such as reformatting things, as well as flashing certain scripts, kernels, mods etc.

Well, a few potential issues I see...
1) You're trying to install a stock rom from the OEM on a custom recovery
2) Your CWM is out of date for newer versions of Android
3) Your build.prop (located in /system) has a different product code which is why it gives you the Status 7 error
Haven't played with that particular phone, since it isn't offered where I live, but quite certain the main issue is number 1. OEM updates are meant to go through the stock recovery.

So now I'm confused... You already have CWM installed, so obviously you've been through the process of installing a recovery. So you just need to find the stock recovery and install it and try the update zip again. You can't accept official updates when you are using a custom recovery. This is the same with EVERY android device. I really can't break it down any simpler as this is the most basic way of saying it.
uninstall cwm

So now I'm confused... You already have CWM installed, so obviously you've been through the process of installing a recovery. So you just need to find the stock recovery and install it and try the update zip again. You can't accept official updates when you are using a custom recovery. This is the same with EVERY android device. I really can't break it down any simpler as this is the most basic way of saying it.

You already have the stock rom, which you mentioned on the 1st post. This kind of thing seems a bit over your head. You might want to see if there is a competent shop around you that can help you with this before you make it worse...
