hey all, i understand that there have been heaps of other rooting threads for the L9, but all of them i have come to no success... Honestly it is getting extremely annoying so i'd like some help here to try and get my phone rooted once and for all... For starters is an Australian L9 if that means anything. Software android 4.0.4 kernal 3.0.21 and software version P768f10e-AUS-XX. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I've made another post and that didnt get any responses, so i hope that this one will prevail a little bit more successful. Thanks in advance, your fellow android user.

The first thing to learn before root your phone is flash KDZ in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344.
After you understand how to flash KDZ and successfully flash LG stock P768f v10e on your phone, you can root you phone with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465
The hard part is hex edit .bin file. If you understand how to edit it other steps just run script and replace edited file while KDZ tool flash .bin to your phone.
If your phone isn't root after doing all steps, it may happen from a little mistake in some step. Lelus' root method also work on new ROM update (V20?) so if you understand it you can root P768f JB rom that will come in our next update.

I see. For now, there is no one click solution for rooting L9. If You want to root your phone you must follow those guide and if you don't understand some steps you can ask in the forum. In most case you will not brick your phone just because you flashing KDZ.

The guide may seem intimidating at first due to it's length, but once you get a general idea of what you are doing it is actually pretty simple.
If it helps I will try to explain it in layman terms so you can get a better idea of what is happening:
As far as I know, the Australian P768F still has ICS, so you will be using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465
What's Happening (General Idea; Doesn't include the small details of setting it up):
Essentially what you are doing is tricking the LG Update Tool to 'update' your phone. Instead of the LG Update Tool connecting to a LG server and applying an update , we create a 'small server' on our computer so we can instead redirect the Update tool to install files that we have on our computer (which you will download as you follow the guide).
In the actual installation process, the LG Update tool will apply the KDZ (think of it as the phone's OS I guess) and then install some files. At some point in the process, you will also see the Update tool install some bin files that are numbered. It is here that we will replace one of the bin files with a 'modified' bin file that allows us root access.
Note: Since I can't seem to find an edited bin file (why we need this is explained above) for the P768F, you will have to create your own following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38750385&postcount=47
Cheers for all your help guys, ill either give it a go or wait till one click comes out. Also the Australian S3 currently has a one click, correct? ill probably root my brothers for him.

As far as i'm aware if flashrec doesn't work you need to downgrade, try my guide in my sig for details.
Thats what i thought :/ I don't get it, i haven't installed a single update, and im on 1.5, and i got the phone when it first came out in the UK, so it wouldn't have been updated, unless over the air updates are automatically downloaded and installed without my knowledge or approval?

As you have found out those phones that have network specific ROMS, namely from the carriers named above will find it difficult or impossible to Root using the methods those with non-branded Hero's have.
The only way to install a custom ROM and or root the phone is the following method. As I have had no experiance with this method I am not going to be able to write out any instrcutions of my own, nor am I going to copy and paste someone else's work and take credit for it. Therefore I am providing you with the following link.

I hadnt installed any updates either but i still had to downgrade, and your tutorial worked pefectly
All newish G2 Touches are loaded with a more recent update (although they're still all 1.5.)
This means if you have a new G2 Touch you'll need to downgrade.
I had the exact same issue as you with the backups failing, after searching the internet and using multiple tabs, i finally gained root access, to make life easier for others I created a guide, give it a try, let me know how you get on

Rooting & sim unlocking are totally unrelated. There's no free means to unlock, so you'll have to buy a code.
Ok, well i am relevantly new to this rooting method for the android devices; so after reading through threads on rooting i have read sections on unlocking bootloader, roms, kernels and stuff and my question is. Will i be able to root my phone without unlocking it just so i can access applications that need root to run? i have no plans in adding or using custom roms on my phone and was wondering will i still be able to update my phone though the official updates? cause i have read from some threads and posts that you will not be able to update it and was wondering is it mandatory for me to unlock the bootloader while rooting....... thanks in advance for the answer and help
No. Root can be obtained only after unlockong.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
hmm ok so i will need to bootload before rooting ha..... fine so how do i do the updates through roms.... if so where can i find them and are there any threads that shows how to use them.
I would recommend you not worry about how to flash ROMs quite yet. Once you obtain root, which isn't really hard, flashing ROMs will seem easy as pie. And to flash ROMs you need to flash a kernel, which is easily done with the rooting tool posted in the development section. Good luck.
dude could you tell like tell me how to root this device, cause i have been trying to root it for a while now and cant seem to do it..... i am following this thread to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39744013#post39744013....... and i cant pass through the "adb device" section as my device is not being detected and yes all my drives are upto date... so would be greatly appreciated if i could get some help.

At which step are you stuck? I will be glad to help you, you should have posted right in the thread.
I haven't gone through the mentioned guide above, and it might be all good, but I've followed this one instead when I first got my HOX+ (now I can do it blindfolded) and it was easy to follow and worked like a charm. Give it a shot.
Just an FYI (so you don't call us liars in the future when you switch devices), but not all root hacks require the bootloader to be unlocked, it depends on the device.
Hi guys my name is Skrilly and I've got a little problem here.
I currently own an LG Optimus L9 (P769) that is on Android 4.1.2 and has software version v20h. I also hate losing data so I want to root it without unlocking the bootloader. My current goal is to root my phone so that I can get Chainfire 3D and use that to run The Conduit HD
I've been searching for months trying to root it but none of the guides meet my dilemma.
I've looked at cmahendra's thread as my best bet, but unfortunately he doesn't have the US v20h KDZ or bin file that I need for my P769.
(cmahendra's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465)
Can anyone help me with this? I'd really love to mod this phone and remove some of the bloatware that makes it have about 50% RAM free at max.
Thanks,
Skrilly.
(Oh and by the way, I just joined and this is my first post.)

If possible can someone point me in the right direction...? Ive read you can roll back but I can only find threads with explinations for rooted phones & my luck being the way it is got the G3 on the day the came out with 11C. Thanx in advance everyone & appreciate all the time put into this site
Either the kdz or tot approaches.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2928140

Note that these approaches use different flash tools, and you have to be careful to use the right drivers in your PC.
Once you return to 10b, you may want to root and turn off System Updates. There are some rumblings that lg may make it difficult in the future.

I want to theme my G3 n having Verizon they went as far as taking out the ****ing Theme option but I got it anaways but u cant do anything really. Once I get a lil more experienced at this whole root thing I want to install custom roms n all that but unfortunalty I dont feel comfortable going that far yet & I just got this phone and dont have money to **** it up yet :silly:
Thanx for any help with this, its greatly appreciated & if theres a thread that woud explain the steps I would need to take and any additional details on them that would be great to get a link

You only need root for exposed. 'Bump'ing the bootloader allows you to install a custom recovery so you can flash ROMs and kernels, make nandroid backups, etc.
Hi, I've been going through threads in here for the last 3 months trying to figure out a way to root this thing. A lot of the threads are pretty old so I have a couple of questions about how I should proceed.
Is it still the case that the firmware needs downgraded to 4.4.2 in order to root? I have the 4.4.2 ftf file but was having some issues with flashtool (the latest version 'Emma' wouldn't open on my PC).
Is flashtool the best method? I've seen threads mentioning easyroot being the best tool but haven't looked into it yet.
KingRoot doesn't work on this tablet version. I was almost going to buy OneClick Root yesterday I was getting so frustrated because I keep hitting a dead end with this.
Great forum by the way, i'm learning a lot from reading the threads, even if I'm not having success with my device!
Same Here Ive been looking at threads and still cant find away to root my sony xperia z2 tablet the only thing ive seen is something called one click root but i dont know if it wokrs or not if your willing to test it out and it works please message me

Thanks, i'm going to try this just now with easyroot. Only thing i'm concerned about is my build number is 23.5.A.0.570, I don't know if this matters.
Still struggling with this, wasted another few days with the continuing problems with flashtool. I downloaded shoey's zip's and renamed them .ftf. But the main problem is Flashtool doesn't detect any ftf's on my computer.
Ok so the ftf should be downloaded with Xperiafrim inculded with flashtool
the ftf should be in the .flashtool folder in your c drive
just renaming it will not work
You should be able to root now with out downgrade check the general section
then it's just a matter of sideload with adb the recovery you need then your home free
Thanks, I had a look at Xperiafirm. All it lets me do is download the latest .291 firmware which is on my device anyway. I know I must be missing something very simple.
