[Q] SGS3 Frsh Rooted -- Quick Question(s) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

(Please Note: Thats really as far as my skills go, In no way shape or form will i understand you if you start throwing crazy ass acronyms at me, I understand some basics, and enough to quite easily root my phone, But speak to me like im retarded on these matters!)
Okay, So as the title suggests, I've just done another fresh root for my SGS3, And as of yet, Quite happy, Though one thing bothers me, I want a completely stock, practically pre-root rom, kenal, whatever the F**K i need, so that my phone is COMPLETELY stock, Other than obviously the fact that its rooted, As far as i've read around, that is completely possible, Although i live in australia, And im using the GT-I9300T (Vodafone Carrier) and exact roms for me a goddamned hard to find, But thanks to the godly genius that is the developer of the SGS3 TOOLKIT, Rooted using GT-I9300>T< Rom(?) And its better than any root attempt ive had to date--
But again, i want to try and go Complete stock, But still have my root access, with the intent of using TriangleAway to reset the counter, So if i have any issues, BAM warranty that *****..
So thats my first Request(Question?)
Second--
I've asked around, ive looked, and ive read, all that i can imagine would be useful for my level of knowledge, And being a man that enjoys learning somthing all the way when he starts it. I want to learn MORE.
But based off of the stuff im reading EVERYWHERE, There is ALWAYS (even in 'ULTIMATE' noob guides) people using phrases, acronyms, or just blatently talking about **** like its completely common knowledge to everyone, and it drives me completely INSANE!
Ill get to the point.. I live in australia, And i want(need) somone i can go to and talk about rooting, and all these sort of related topics, Now im not asking for anyone to BABYSIT me, But i learn fast, and i just need a person(s) i can go to on like, skype, or facebook, or somthing, Where i can just go "Yo, This person is talking about x, y, z, WTF IS IT!" Get a rough explanation, and wham, im a happy chap!
XDA is the damn center of the universe when it comes to android devices, and has some amazing geniuses here-- So this is my last hope, That somone HERE lives (Preferably, but not a must) in australia, that i can actually use as a Go-To for all my rooting needs (heh.. sexual joke in there somwhere?)
Thanks in advance XDA, Wouldnt be enjoying android the way i do if it werent for the place!!

I lost the will to live after your first sentence, go read the stickies in general for all answers.

Just Got My First Smart Phone Ever: ATRIX 4G, Lots of Questions

Hello there, Since I am somewhat poor and I´m still under my parents wing... I upgrade phones about every 5 years, (well at least until I start working) so i was really outdated with phones but i did my homework and got to the conclusion that Android based phones are the best price x performance/ features.. specifically Motorola brand around the $200 mark so my decision was between the Droid 3, Photon 4g & Atrix 4G.. I decided for the Atrix with the lapdock which i think is the best feature until now!
This it my first smartphone ever! laugh at this.. I´m upgrading form a Motorola Rokr em35 which i remember that i bought for $180 because it was a music player based phone that had a 3.5mm headphone jack! and now i bought the atrix with the lapdock for $250 on eBay.
Im just learning how to use the phone I´m hoping for some guidance on some things i should and shouldn't do!
first off.. My phone is blocked.. so Im thinking about buying an unlock code for about $2 since its blocked in my country (Dom. Rep.) ,, hows that about?
i want to learn all about the cool stuff i can do with the phone.
learn about custom roms and themes... Ive heard theres roms that are really optimized for the Atrix 4G and even overclocked!! but i dont want to loose the webtop ability?
I heard that you can make a partition on a micro sd and install a Full Ubuntu OS ... which im most exited about! even thought ive never used linux!
Luckily im into computers since I study computer science/engineering and these things shouldn't be hard for me to learn.
im really eager to get on to this stuff and I hope i can get somebody to guide and help me though all this! i hope this is the right place
Before doing any unlocking, or custom roms, etc. READ, RE-READ IT, THEN READ IT ALL AGAIN. until you understand what you are doing.
as for ubuntu ( linux ) on your phone, you said that you never used linux before. I would learn the basics with linux, on a computer, before slapping it on your phone and not understading the OS. But thats up to you. its just easier to learn it on a pc from start, rather than on a phone that you dont even understand yet.
No question here, is a dumb question, so ask away, ( just remember to search before asking so ya dont get the crap flammed out of ya )
once ya start learning linux, you will love it. its better than windows.
Good Luck!

thanks, I´ll read as much as I have to.. can you post me some good links on these sfuff.. but first i wanna unlock and root the phone. I seen vendors on ebay that provide you with an unlock code for your IMEI. should i do that¿
edit: btw i am familiar with ubuntus UI since Ive used it a few times but never had it personally for me so i dont now things like commands lines and that advanced stuff. i just like the idea of using the lapdock as a notebook and not being limited by the ROM/OS ... would be good for collage.

the wiki has most the guides, roms, and other stuff listed out, and its mostly up to date.. you should definitely read through the noob guide first because it has all the terminology you'll be seeing throughout the rest of the forums
If you want to keep your webtop the roms I would recommend are darkside or wetdream, both by Nottach..they have a ton of great features..of course there are others and I recommend you go through all of them and find whats right for you..just avoid cyanogen mod(CM7, CM9) based roms because they do not include webtop or any close alternative for now
Just remember, take your time on rooting and unlocking your bootloader, because you can really mess things up, but after that everything else should be pretty easy..
And don't worry too much about your rom selection, if you back everything up properly you should be able to switch roms in under an hour, so you can try out many different roms before settling on which one you like best(such a hard choice!)

thanks so much for being kind with this noob
It can't be overstated though. READ. I've been toying with my Atrix for a couple of months now, and came close to bricking my phone since I didn't read it all. By all I don't mean only posts about the developer, but problems people have encountered with their specific atrix model.
You've got to read a lot though.
The Atrix was my first Android and I have to say I couldn't be happier with the level of customisation you can get.

[Q] Nooob with a SGS2 i777

ive been reading this forum since i got my phone yesterday, i previously used an iPhone 4s. Giving this phone a TRY something different...having alot of problems with the iOS/iPhone that just annoyed the crap outta me.
i dont quite understand all this lingo on here as far as rooting goes (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894)...so here i go:
Ive been messing around with the phone, i want to delete all this ATT preloaded Bloatware, what do i need to do to do that?? How to i "over clock" this phone so it runs better?
phone is completely stock, UCKK6 (but box says uckh7....?) with 2.3.6 gingerbread
I bought it off eBay... since i am not eligible for an ATT upgrade (used it for my 4s). I did however, find out that the phone has been flashed twice which from what i understand voids the warranty (but can be fixed with that microjig thing)? (seller claimed it was never used/under warranty..i am thinking of filing a claim on it for not as described and buying one thats actually brand new)
help im so used to the iOS this is new territory for me!
I think you need to read some more and Google. Until you understand what you're reading I say its best for you to stay stock. We have multiple threads of people trying things willy nilly and screwing up their phones and then come crying for help ( not saying you will)
Read some more and grab all the files needed
1st, thread titles are important for those who actually search. Please use more descriptive titles.
2nd, it is expected that noobs will first search before posting as most of the basics are already covered in here. Everything you asked about is covered in the main sticky here and in General.
3rd, do NOTHING until you understand the lingo and the procedures. Failure to do this will likely result in you needing help you won't understand from people who will not only resent you for doing so, but ridicule you, as well. Savagely.
You have been warned.
As noted - if you don't understand what you are reading, what advice can anyone here give you? Everything we say will simply be off to you as well.
But, rules are rules... just because you dont understand the post means you can ignore it, and create a new thread where your questions are already answered in the post you didn't read. Keep reading, read some more, and when the post makes sense, then you are ready to work.

Is there a need for a noob guide?

If so, reply here, tell me what you all think is needed or wanted, and I'll see what I can do. I know I'm feeling full of stupid questions, and the best way I learn is to find the answers for others.
There are several in development.

i really would appreciate a some sort of guide and some basic info. Since HTC allows unlock the boot, i am not sure about hwo that plays with the warranty and if there's any recovery. I would really appreciate if someone can have a good guide explaining some basic stuff like the process of getting the phoen to run custome rom (yes I know there are few but it would just be nice to have 1 with a bit detail and also mentioning a few of things we should watchout like warranty, etc).
also I really would appreciate a baisc maybe dumb step by step process with maybe a quick guideline for a newbie like me to follow where it's almost 100% fail proof to kind of test so one can get used to the whole idea of flashing custom rom
Con beat me again but there are plenty of stickies or threads people can read... the reason that there are so many questions is because people are either too lazy to read or dont look at the guides... so i think even if u made one people would still not read it
I'd love a noob guide! I have looked at some of the foolproof tools and they seem decent enough for me to get started with...
I'm a lifelong developer, but I am new to android, so it's just a matter of time before I dive in.. and once I'm in, i'll be thrashing around and hope to help out the dev's we got.
That being said... I'm literally one rainy weekend away from unlocking and getting started on all this (but that weekend is hard to find here in SoCal.. )

If you are a developer I don't know why your not diving in ... It's soo easy to do all the unlocking and stuff... I bet it takes less than an hour and that's just bc u have to wait on things to flash .... But what do I know I'm just an average Joe.
Sent from my Dinc... I mean Rezound
hahaha, tomorrow (wed) is suppose to rain, maybe it's a good day to get your hand wet
that would be great....i'm coming from a DX and OG Droid where i rommed and modded away. but the rezound has e scared to unlock/root. i ahven't touched anything yet and i really want to. i liked that i had the option to sbf back to stock if worse came to worse. i can flash anything i wanted to but could always go back to completely unrooted stock if need be.

The best thread for NOOBS, rooting the S3

Could someone point me to the ultimate thread for this?
I know nada about rooting, and im also new to Android, and before i dig into to that, i need info on do's and dont's, advantages/disadvantages, what to look out for, and if the process can be reversed back to stock fw?
Thanks :fingers-crossed:

My bad, i should have mentioned that ive already used the notorious search button, which apparently leads to ALOT of DIFFERENT threads about the same topic, hence my question, "which is the ULTIMATE thread for noobs"
Im sorry, but I dont know which is the right thread and not, if i did, i wouldnt bother asking that question, would i?
In theory its just downloading a file, unzip it, connect phone to computer and execute, right?
http://youtu.be/vhSSmdqAXRM
However, after a long life, my experience is that it would be convenient to know more than just the action itself, cause there are always traps, which isnt always mentioned or described in those threads cause they take for granted that people who want to do this already know everything about it.
If there are risks involved doing it, like choosing the wrong vers, having the wrong bb etc, i want to learn and be aware of it BEFORE i attempt or even consider doing it, cause i dont want to brick my phone.
Unfortunatelly i have a daytime job, and not much time left for reading through endless threads and comments, thats why i addressed the experienced members in here that already know what im looking for, and can in his, or her way save me for reading all the stuff that i dont need to know, or are irrelevant in my case
Btw, i got a GT-I9300 with 4.1.2 - BB I9300XXEMB5
Dont mean to be rude, but sharing is caring, and i would love to help others in the same way sharing my knowledge, if i could, instead of just inform people about the search function... its getting old.
Im a little tired of all the wise guys in here sitting on their horses pretending to know everything, but isnt willing to help or share in a nice way, instead just being arrogant in a patronizing way.
I can assure you, if you threat people more friendly, people will show more gratefulness in return, and if you dont, u get ungrateful speaches like this in return instead
A good atmosphere is much easier to achieve if you include people, rather than exclude them....
Hope i dint offend you with my "speach"

there is no "right thread" and they are all full of various things you could do with knowing. there are a lot of people who come here expecting a quick and easy "which is the ULTIMATE thread for noobs" - there is none, they're all relivant.

I agree with everything you said here, which is why you should read the threads, they're all relivant
Unfortunatelly i have a daytime job, and not much time left for reading through endless threads and comments, that's why i addressed the experienced members in here that already know what im looking for, and can in his, or her way save me for reading all the stuff that i dont need to know, or are irrelevant in my case
unfortunately, i also have a day time job (oh what a chore hey?) most of the people, including the devs and the more experienced members here have jobs too, i doubt they all came here with instant vast knowledge on how to flash and all of it's woes, i also doubt they just came here and asked someone to pick out all the best bit for them. I bet they read all the posts, dammit they made the posts, the roms you will use, the rooting procedures. everything on here - for you to say "save me for reading all the stuff that i dont need to know, or are irrelevant in my case" is just being ignorant, as i've said everything is relevant, it seems that you want to know everything and share the knowledge but don't want to read about it - it's the only way to learn
Btw, i got a GT-I9300 with 4.1.2 - BB I9300XXEMB5

how do you expect to share knowledge, if you don't read all the info and just get told what you want to know?
Im a little tired of all the wise guys in here sitting on their horses pretending to know everything, but isnt willing to help or share in a nice way, instead just being arrogant in a patronizing way.
i'm pretty sure all the "wise guys" on here are fed up with noobs (I by the way, still consider myself a noob) coming here and asking for things to be given to them on a silver platter! we/they are not being patronizing or arrogant, they are simply telling you to do your research - just like they did.
I can assure you, if you threat people more friendly, people will show more gratefulness in return, and if you dont, u get ungrateful speaches like this in return instead
i think you meant treat not "threat" oh and thanks for the assurance . i'm sorry you are being ungrateful just because someone (I) told you to read up! - it's probably not the best way to get help when you refer to the members as "wise guys" "sitting on their high horses" "being arrogant in a patronizing way" - that's how you portray friendliness?

not offended at all :crying:
I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but i'm not being an A$$ - i'm telling you that what you need to know is all in those posts.
i'm done
Of course mate, i didnt expect you to read for me, lol, but i was hoping to get pointed to the "most relevant" thread about what i wanted to know, and probably one single thread would be more than enough info to read up.
Forums like these are getting out of proportions after some years, and sometimes impossible to navigate through, and why shouldnt i be allowed to ask for help or shortcuts? Who made up that rule?
If i had been here two years longer than you, doesnt mean i need to hold back any info cause i had to learn everything the hard way, instead i would gladly at least guide people in the right direction.
Ive been in allot of different forums over the past years with different kinds if subjects, but never a forum like this where people are so grumpy and very little welcoming and including, there are no "welcome to the forum buddy, i will try my best to guide you in the right direction"
Eventually one will find the way on its own, but sometimes its nice to be lead onto the right path.
I totally agree, and i ALWAYS try to find the answers im looking for through the search function before i ask, but when i stall, i post in a friendly and humble way like i tried to in my original post.
If all the answers to your questions was to read through every topic, there would be vert little activity in here, but then again, maybe easier to browse through.
A forum where its "stupid" or not "allowed" to ask questions is to me more equal to Google... yea, Google is your friend, but sometimes you wish to know more spesific things...
And thanks to you too, im not rooting my phone, cause im not able to find the proper info im looking for... and gives me one more reason to get back to my "boring" Iphone again... but hey, life goes on anyway... :good:
they have a link for the rooting guides for the noobs at the section list

I don't want to sound arrogant or anything and I am always happy to help, but if you do not find the guide for rooting... it seems you didn't follow the advice given to you in the posts earlier.
That are stickies in the general section which will help you to understand the basics of rooting, flashing etc. And in addition you have tons of YouTube guides out there.
Hence I wish you good luck, anything is out there for you to learn and share later on, just a little bit of effort is needed to get there.

I am going to add that you should pick the method that you actually understand the instructions for . That goes for all other flashes updates etc .
If you don't understand then you will probably be joining the help i bricked my phone club .

Finally someone who understands where im going with this, thanks... And that was the intention with this thread, to get a pointer to the one or maybe two or even three or four threads that covers the most essential things... I dont know whats essential or not (yet), i can surely read dozens of how to's but i still dont know if its the right solution for my phone and the vers i have.
A bit like jb an iphone, just download this and do that... "oh, you had that bb vers" "thats the only one thats not compatible with this vers" sorry u bricked your phone.
But it feels like its just, if u got the balls, or know everything about it, just do it, or everything is at your own risk, its a hit or miss thing...
I dont think i will root my phone after all, cause there are so much info on how to do it that differs from eachother, and nobody cant seem to tell which thread is the right one for MY phone...
But thanks anyway, to those that actually tried to point me there...

Sorry you are wrong a day or two actually reading the basic faqs and guides is the starting point that you don't want to start with .This is after all a developers forum that has no place spoon feeding those that dont want to learn .
Their is no best the basic stickied faqs and guides all say the same as do the instructions for each method .
The confusion lies in answers to posts like this where xx say this way is best and b say no use x .Unfortunately due to multiple same posts it is not that easy to navigate the forum but the answer to that is for noobs to bother reading the facts and guides before posting repetitive questions .
I would in your case read the instructions and use CF Root method .
jje
Look for cf auto root if you don't want recovery to be stock. Use cf root if u want the custom recovery. To all advanced user out there, correct me if I'm wrong.

how to unlock bootloader sch-i605 4.3 VRUAND3

Im confuse. I know you cant root a sch-i605 that has an 4.3 OTA vruand3 but is there anyway I can unlock the bootloader ? The reason im doing this is because Im using a tmobile prepaid sim card and it works ( phone, text) except that the data Im getting is stuck on EDGE . And maybe the reason is because the bootloader is lock. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have read the forums and I just want to start a new thread that will clarify my question. Thanks.
Please do a little bit more homework.

And maybe the reason is because the bootloader is lock. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have read the forums and I just want to start a new thread that will clarify my question. Thanks.

To answer your question: Safestrap. At this moment this is the only alternative; and even then its not a robust solution.
But Amador please do a little bit more searching in the forums (or at least google) because your question has been a hot topic amongst the SCH-i605 community since the OTA 4.3 update and your answer could have been easily found. I am not going to give you a link to the Safestrap post because I want you to take initiative and I want to prevent you from being lazy like the hundreds of other people who have done exactly what you did, because instead of looking for an answer, "your kind" come here off of a google search and just keep on asking the same question over and over, pile up the forums with garbage posts, and its time consuming for anyone on the forums to answer "your kind".
A lesson to everyone else:
We welcome new talent and bright minds to contribute to the forums, and if you sincerely need help after you have dedicated hours of QUALITY research, please ask. But don't expect to be spoon fed here. If you're asking easy questions that have an existing answer in a plethora of locations out there in the big world of the internet, you will be reminded of the culture in XDA. If you ever wonder why big companies outsource telephone operators in India, this is why. To talk to ignorant people, who all require the same answer.
