I know nada about rooting, and im also new to Android, and before i dig into to that, i need info on do's and dont's, advantages/disadvantages, what to look out for, and if the process can be reversed back to stock fw?
Thanks :fingers-crossed:

So there are no other ways to find out than reading 100 000 of posts multiple times to get help on that?

My bad, i should have mentioned that ive already used the notorious search button, which apparently leads to ALOT of DIFFERENT threads about the same topic, hence my question, "which is the ULTIMATE thread for noobs"
Im sorry, but I dont know which is the right thread and not, if i did, i wouldnt bother asking that question, would i?
In theory its just downloading a file, unzip it, connect phone to computer and execute, right?
http://youtu.be/vhSSmdqAXRM
However, after a long life, my experience is that it would be convenient to know more than just the action itself, cause there are always traps, which isnt always mentioned or described in those threads cause they take for granted that people who want to do this already know everything about it.
If there are risks involved doing it, like choosing the wrong vers, having the wrong bb etc, i want to learn and be aware of it BEFORE i attempt or even consider doing it, cause i dont want to brick my phone.
Unfortunatelly i have a daytime job, and not much time left for reading through endless threads and comments, thats why i addressed the experienced members in here that already know what im looking for, and can in his, or her way save me for reading all the stuff that i dont need to know, or are irrelevant in my case
Btw, i got a GT-I9300 with 4.1.2 - BB I9300XXEMB5
Dont mean to be rude, but sharing is caring, and i would love to help others in the same way sharing my knowledge, if i could, instead of just inform people about the search function... its getting old.
Im a little tired of all the wise guys in here sitting on their horses pretending to know everything, but isnt willing to help or share in a nice way, instead just being arrogant in a patronizing way.
I can assure you, if you threat people more friendly, people will show more gratefulness in return, and if you dont, u get ungrateful speaches like this in return instead
A good atmosphere is much easier to achieve if you include people, rather than exclude them....
Hope i dint offend you with my "speach"

there is no "right thread" and they are all full of various things you could do with knowing. there are a lot of people who come here expecting a quick and easy "which is the ULTIMATE thread for noobs" - there is none, they're all relivant.

I agree with everything you said here, which is why you should read the threads, they're all relivant

unfortunately, i also have a day time job (oh what a chore hey?) most of the people, including the devs and the more experienced members here have jobs too, i doubt they all came here with instant vast knowledge on how to flash and all of it's woes, i also doubt they just came here and asked someone to pick out all the best bit for them. I bet they read all the posts, dammit they made the posts, the roms you will use, the rooting procedures. everything on here - for you to say "save me for reading all the stuff that i dont need to know, or are irrelevant in my case" is just being ignorant, as i've said everything is relevant, it seems that you want to know everything and share the knowledge but don't want to read about it - it's the only way to learn

how do you expect to share knowledge, if you don't read all the info and just get told what you want to know?
Im a little tired of all the wise guys in here sitting on their horses pretending to know everything, but isnt willing to help or share in a nice way, instead just being arrogant in a patronizing way.
i'm pretty sure all the "wise guys" on here are fed up with noobs (I by the way, still consider myself a noob) coming here and asking for things to be given to them on a silver platter! we/they are not being patronizing or arrogant, they are simply telling you to do your research - just like they did.
I can assure you, if you threat people more friendly, people will show more gratefulness in return, and if you dont, u get ungrateful speaches like this in return instead
i think you meant treat not "threat" oh and thanks for the assurance . i'm sorry you are being ungrateful just because someone (I) told you to read up! - it's probably not the best way to get help when you refer to the members as "wise guys" "sitting on their high horses" "being arrogant in a patronizing way" - that's how you portray friendliness?

not offended at all :crying:
I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but i'm not being an A$$ - i'm telling you that what you need to know is all in those posts.
i'm done

Of course mate, i didnt expect you to read for me, lol, but i was hoping to get pointed to the "most relevant" thread about what i wanted to know, and probably one single thread would be more than enough info to read up.
Forums like these are getting out of proportions after some years, and sometimes impossible to navigate through, and why shouldnt i be allowed to ask for help or shortcuts? Who made up that rule?
If i had been here two years longer than you, doesnt mean i need to hold back any info cause i had to learn everything the hard way, instead i would gladly at least guide people in the right direction.
Ive been in allot of different forums over the past years with different kinds if subjects, but never a forum like this where people are so grumpy and very little welcoming and including, there are no "welcome to the forum buddy, i will try my best to guide you in the right direction"
Eventually one will find the way on its own, but sometimes its nice to be lead onto the right path.
I totally agree, and i ALWAYS try to find the answers im looking for through the search function before i ask, but when i stall, i post in a friendly and humble way like i tried to in my original post.
If all the answers to your questions was to read through every topic, there would be vert little activity in here, but then again, maybe easier to browse through.
A forum where its "stupid" or not "allowed" to ask questions is to me more equal to Google... yea, Google is your friend, but sometimes you wish to know more spesific things...
And thanks to you too, im not rooting my phone, cause im not able to find the proper info im looking for... and gives me one more reason to get back to my "boring" Iphone again... but hey, life goes on anyway... :good:

I don't want to sound arrogant or anything and I am always happy to help, but if you do not find the guide for rooting... it seems you didn't follow the advice given to you in the posts earlier.
That are stickies in the general section which will help you to understand the basics of rooting, flashing etc. And in addition you have tons of YouTube guides out there.
Hence I wish you good luck, anything is out there for you to learn and share later on, just a little bit of effort is needed to get there.
Btw here you go again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927113 and even at the beginning of the q&a section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148708

I am going to add that you should pick the method that you actually understand the instructions for . That goes for all other flashes updates etc .
If you don't understand then you will probably be joining the help i bricked my phone club .

Finally someone who understands where im going with this, thanks... And that was the intention with this thread, to get a pointer to the one or maybe two or even three or four threads that covers the most essential things... I dont know whats essential or not (yet), i can surely read dozens of how to's but i still dont know if its the right solution for my phone and the vers i have.
A bit like jb an iphone, just download this and do that... "oh, you had that bb vers" "thats the only one thats not compatible with this vers" sorry u bricked your phone.
But it feels like its just, if u got the balls, or know everything about it, just do it, or everything is at your own risk, its a hit or miss thing...
I dont think i will root my phone after all, cause there are so much info on how to do it that differs from eachother, and nobody cant seem to tell which thread is the right one for MY phone...
But thanks anyway, to those that actually tried to point me there...

Sorry you are wrong a day or two actually reading the basic faqs and guides is the starting point that you don't want to start with .This is after all a developers forum that has no place spoon feeding those that dont want to learn .
Their is no best the basic stickied faqs and guides all say the same as do the instructions for each method .
The confusion lies in answers to posts like this where xx say this way is best and b say no use x .Unfortunately due to multiple same posts it is not that easy to navigate the forum but the answer to that is for noobs to bother reading the facts and guides before posting repetitive questions .
I would in your case read the instructions and use CF Root method .

Look for cf auto root if you don't want recovery to be stock. Use cf root if u want the custom recovery. To all advanced user out there, correct me if I'm wrong.

i see all these nice incons and i have no clue how u install them , i really would appericate it if someone could list step by step how to install them thank u so much
Here my friend take a look at this thread! I don't think I can explain it much better!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080
What are those "Help me!!!!!!!"-Threads always supposed to be? Is it so difficult to choose a proper ThreadTitle which informs a potential reader about the content of the Thread. And why the hell must it sound like you have bricked your phone completely when u just want to ask a minor standard-question (without even using the searchfunction by the way... ). Please Guys keep this forum clean and informative.
Thanks
Yes, it's crazy to see all those questions without people make the effort to use the search function!

Flash is fore Rom's!!
Cabs are installed!!
Just download the cab's you need, copy to your SD and pres on install! Don't see the difficult in it!
Oh yes fore your safety, install the cab on the device's memory!!
no i understand all of that , im talking about when i save my new icons to a folder then go in and copy them , i needed to knw where i paste them so they will show up in the start menu
^^^ Did you actually really read the answer in posting #2?
I kind of doubt that. Because your new question implies you haven´t.
Please follow the link, read everything, download and try the app - and there you go.

Sometimes (a lot of) people just don't read nor search and expect to be spoon-fed the information they need (because they would not spend the effort to do/find it themselves). I don't know about the majority but to me that is just laziness and quite annoying.
AS FOR THE QUESTION POSTED, if you actually do go to the link posted above, the information is there and any questions you might still have is better directed in that thread rather than creating a new one such as this with a SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! subject line.
I thought moderators are deleting threads such as this.

Nobody is jumping on anybody.
The truth is harsh sometimes. Obsolete and redundant questions and answers are definitely not something any forum is searching for. It´s called spam.
Ignoring the correct answer (which in this case was given in the very first answering posting) isn´t a beginners mistake, imho. It doesn´t show respect to the user who posted the link.
If me pointing out this very fact was too rude, I am sorry. But to be honest, I am tired of recurring subjects which could easily be solved using the search function. I did the same when I came here as a beginner. Oh, and btw, please check the forum rules and the new stickies.
Last, but not least, in the other forum you mention, it might be a different story sometimes. People get ignored there, and some statements are much harsher than anything I have personally ever seen here.
We are all human beings. Cool down.
info
Ok yes the link provided was good information. I personally just PM someone when I have a question. I been here for a while so i have that option because people will PM me back.
My point is some people or smarter than others. Iam a developer myself, so alot of problems or questions I can figure out on my own. But some people are not that smart and this phone can very easily expose that fact. So some new people might need more help , and sarcasm wont help anyone. They dont call this a smart phone for nothing. Whats simple to you and me , might be complicated to others.

I don't see what's your problem Sr.
First of all the moderators have create a special sub-forum fore this Q and A.
secondly I can understand that maybe using the searchfunction is not easy to everyone, and certainly not if you don't know what to search!
But after the moment I post him the correct link to his question, a hole thread that give you bay the way a hole step by step explanations I don't know how we can give a better treatment!?
but after that the person came back with a question what is tread in there!!!???
I don't know sr but there is a end on everyone's goodness!
nice is a good word
Ok I understand its annoying when newbies just dont get it. As for a problem I dont have one , and maybe I came off harsh. My mistake too.
When the OP said flash a cab , that alone told me he isn't computer or phone savy. He obviously is way over his head with this type of phone. He probaly got lucky when he found this website. Iam sure he was excited that he could ask a question because he was lost. The comment that pissed me off a little was telling him its safer to install to the phone. Thats definitally not right at all.
The only reason I said anything was because I could tell the OP was really lost and confused. By reading his comments I could tell he never had anything like this before. So for his 1st venture into the wonderful world of windows mobile, I just didnt want him to be discouraged. I want him to enjoy the phone and mod it to the fullest extent.
the reason way I have wright "installed cabs on your device" is because there are some cab's that don't have a correct installation pat. And like I saw it was a new member who posted this thread I give him this tip, to be sure he don't installed it on SD.
I don't see what is wrong with that!?
installation
1) Installation on a unstable OS like windows mobile ,will cause slowdown in the future after alot of apps are installed. Its nobodys fault but HTC who made the phone.
2) If there is a virus , you can delete it easier on storage card.
3) If you have to hard reset the phone , you lose everything. Thats why I recommend storage card.
See how nicely I spoke , I gave point by point reasons without sarcasm. We are all happy now.
It´s a bit sad to see the development of this thread.
Something which was not "bashing" turned into bashing after a posting was made, citing the "bad word". In the meantime, there was even a thread opened to discuss that very question.
I think both threads should be closed. They don´t belong into the "HD2 Themes and Apps" section anyway.
And, imho, it is recommendable to install system relevant items like icon cabs to the device, I definitely second kurt-willems´ advice. On the other hand, CSMI or JWMD Icon Changer, the possible programs to change icons manually, can go onto the memory card.

I don't want to wade in on the bashing, but to make a comment like your first one, "unstable OS", sounds to me like you have something against windows mobile, and to post in a thread of someone looking for help that their os is just "Unstable" is not really help ...
I am sure there are a lot of people that use WiMo daily and would not agree that it is "Unstable"
I personally install almost everything to phone memory because this phone can take it, and my phone runs just fine...
With this phone there is a bigger chance of the SD card getting corrupted than the OS ...
life is funny
Its very funny to me now. I just responded and I didnt bash anyone. Its funny how people can talk to someone anyway they like, but cant take it when someone talks to them the same way.
If you didnt like the way I responded, maybe you shouldnt that way to others. Very simple have a nice day!!!

I have a question to you! Why did you root if you didn't know what you wanted to do afterwards? Rooting is not just so you can feel the "cool factor", and the vast majority of us know before we root why we want to do it, otherwise...................WHY do it???
Why did you bother? Your own answer should close this thread, and everything else you mentioned can be found by reading the forums!
No offense, but you shouldn't be rooting/flashing "roms" if you don't know what your doing.
It's very easy to end up with an unusable device.

I find your responses a bit harsh guys.. Are there laws / regulations on who can / should root, profile boxes that have to be ticked before one can decide to have a go at unleashing the full power of their phone?
Nobody was born with the knowledge, we all started from scratch at some stage. There are enough warnings that explain how to apply the root methods that are offered in the threads.

Ouch.......poor guy is new and gets slammed instantly for wondering what all he can do with his phone. I think we were all in the same boat not too long ago.
Yea, he may be a noob and not know the politics of posting before reading, but I bet each one of us did at one time too. What we should be doing is just politely pointing him in the right direction on how to learn more about all things root.
Such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972423 being a good place to start.
Understand though, if you screw up your phone, there is no one to blame but yourself. Read how to recover from a soft brick and hard brick before jumping in. Read all posts VERY carefully and all the way through. That's how I learned, and many others before me. And first and foremost, before asking questions about anything, do a quick search of the treads to see if it has already been asked and answered before. If you don't find your question, feel free to ask and ignore those that troll the treads.
Good luck my man.

I am running Gingerblur which is very similar. I think it is a great ROM and one of the few so far for the Atrix. If you like some of the Blur stuff such as the gallery and social networking items, you have to understand that you will be losing them with the new ROM and going with the stock Android gallery. However, if you do a backup of your current ROM before flashing, you can always revert back if you don't like it.
Big thing, screen shots help for me. And the ROM developers do a great job at giving the details of their ROMs in their posts or websites.

I agree, we all have to learn, but the vast majority of us started by reading through threads which have all the info about how to flash sbf's, root, sideload, flash themes, what is and is not possible, etc. We then tried things by following the instructions.
I'm not, and was not, trying to be a ****. I am however very blunt! Everything the OP needs is already there if he/she looks. The forums are full of "repeat" threads because people are basically too lazy to read and research for themselves before asking what has already been asked numerous times.

[Q] Advice not given

Okay. I posted my first ever question/request for advice the other day and, despite 79 views, I have had no response. Perhaps it was too dull for those who are more accomplished with all things Android and everybody assumed that somebody else would answer.
Perhaps within the morass of information on these forums the answers are already out there. Maybe, but who knows. In other forums people tend to at least say - look there for answers - and post a link to another thread. But, it has been Christmas and I guess we are all pretty busy this time of year - Merry Christmas to all by the way
So, I thought I would re-shape my question/needs here.
Could anybody give me, or at least point me in the direction of, a glossary of terms type of thing?
I need to know things like what does 'radio' mean? How does it relate to the 'flashing' process' , And any other terms which people take for granted as being blindingly obvious, but which may not be to those of us very inexperienced. This forum can be quite daunting, but still, enquiring minds wanna know
Any help, again, appreciated.

I would've loved to answer but perhaps you need to be more specific on what you want to be answered
you said you wanted to have 2.3.5 on ur DHD,but that doesn't tell anyone what you are asking for,if you are asking us to find a ROM for you,or how to flash a recovery first,or how to flash the ROM !
You should have to provide us more specific data, phone, model, rooted or stock, etc. It is normal that why you don't get replies.

HI, and thank you. Also apologies for my woolly question. And this is kind of my problem. When new to this even the questions I want answered are not always asked correctly. I was hoping to find a ROM for my Desire HD which has Sense 3.0. I have Gingerbread on the phone currently with Sense 2.1.
To be completely humble and honest, which I find to be the best way in almost all cases, I must say that I am not even sure what "how to flash a recovery" means, or "how to flash the ROM".
So, as you see, I am really new to this and feeling my way around. I am a quick learner though so I really just need bringing up to speed on a few of the basics and then I am sure I will be able to research my way around.
Anyway, thank you for your kind reply. I wasn't trying to be shirty with my post. I meant what I said - it is Christmas and I am sure people look in over the holidays but it is a busy time for everybody. I hope I have not caused offence.

Please read before you do anything at all. From your posts it is plain you are very new to Modding so it is very important you understand what your doing as it void your warrenty and if done wrong can brick your device. Start with the stickies in the DHD section and read those a couple of times. Then check the Q&A and read there as well.
As mentioned, read the stickies in your section, there should be a lot of information there. In my device's subfora, there are great stickies chocked full of information. If we had the same device, I'd post some links for you. There's also a glossary of sorts stickied in the Thunderbolt section. Not everything in it will apply to your device but it may help with some general terms.
Before I even rooted my device, I read all of the stickies and recommended links. I then read over the Q&A and general subfora just to get a feel for it. What I read didn't make a lot of sense at the time, but later I remembered it and it made more sense. I then rooted my device, then read and read and read before flashing my first rom (CM6 - it was a while back).
It's a process, and the more you read the more you'll understand, until eventually you can start answering some of the questions that go unanswered. Just give it time... and make sure that you know exactly what you're doing - and why - before you jump in to something.
Good luck!

Hi there Zendel.
Apologies for the lateness of this reply. Been a busy day. I wanted to say thanks for the advice and to also fill in a couple of blanks, if I may.
You are quite correct, I am very new to modding and my only fear is buggering it up, as we say in Lancashire lol. However, it has already been rooted by a friend who took me through the process over the phone some months ago.
When I first got the phone it was with Orange and had all that Orange junk and splash screen etc. Hence, my friend talked me through rooting and installing a standard factory ROM. It was a lot to take in and, at the time, I didn't make any notes along the way, which would have helped me now - hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.
More recently he pointed me at a link to a RUU (is that right?) so that I could upgrade from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 - so, in a nutshell, void warranty is no longer a concern
I have taken a look at some of the stickies, though I have not studied them intensely at this point. I will spend more time looking however and come back, perhaps, with more questions - or at least more relevant questions I should hope

XDA Rules Etiquette & Respect

Howdy all! If you've seen me around you'll know I love being an active member of these forums. With my job I have free time some days (some days NONE lol) and helping people makes me happy. I hate causing problems. But there has been a rash of interesting posts within the last 6 months (maybe going back farther but there has been an increase in the past 6 months that I've noticed) of people beginning their posts with:
" sorry for the noob question, but..."
Also, some start with, " sorry I did a search but I'm pressed for time and...."
OK. Look. When I joined up, I had to watch a video. It showed me how much of a noob I am, and told me to search, then search some more, and finally, SEARCH. Again. Now, maybe I'm crazy, but that is still XDA policy. Just because yer new, it doesn't give u an excuse to be lazy. Just because yer in a hurry , it doesn't give u the right to ignore the rules u agreed to when u signed up here.
I was a noob too. A year ago. Guess what? From day one I searched. And searched. And searched again. Why? Cause I love solving as many problems as I can ON MY OWN. Lets try and get back to that. Google search is a great tool. Yes the mobile app search is limited. But u have a browser on your phone. U can go to the actual site and search there as well. Remember, we're a community. And these rules are put in place to help us and maintain some semblence of order.
Remember folks when u search first, and don't post a new thread for something easily found, it not only looks better for u. But it reflects the respect u have for this community and its mods/devs.
Good luck all, happy flashing.
P.S. Red, if have to close this thread, just know this meets my quota for rants for the month.

I like this guy, but I have low expectations.
I personally have NO issue reading "noobie" questions. Everyone is different and I don't expect they must act like me. For you, me and others who spot a so-called "noob question", if you don't want to help then report the thread/post to mod so they can take care of. Yelling at newbies just makes the matter worse and that have been proved for ......... like you said, the past 6 months.
What irritates me more is SAME person asking the SAME question by creating multiple threads.
Therefore, for us, seniors, if you're not willing to help then just simply walk away from the thread, don't post, don't act like you are the mod.
One other issue, don't be an ass-kisser here.
For newbie, pls read the sticky thread FIRST.
This is 100% correct but you are missing one other important word to go with your "rules, etiquette and respect" slogan and that word is "Attention"
People need to pay attention! So if you could just change the title of the thread to "Rules, Etiquette, Attention, and Respect" or R.E.A.R. for short? Then I think that will cover it. So next time someone asks a question in the wrong thread? I can just point them right to your R.E.A.R.
Most of us are coming to under stand that there is no help what so ever for what the old gaurd calls common qustions so we just go else where
I spent 18 hours sunday working on my phone and I am happy with the results.
The biggest problem is even the fairly detailed instructions leave out the tiniest simple things people do not think of because they just figure everyone on earth should know it.
take for example if you are trying to get your phone ready and going right now the easiest way is to use the directions and flash to a older SU rom then up grade it from there. I searched for hours and could not find an answer to a simple question on why Odin would not upload the files I was trying to load so I had CWM.
In the end the answer, which I figured out my self, was that Odin will not load the .zip files everyone uses for CWM. I accedently tripped over a kernel that was in a different format,.tar, and got lucky.
After that I soft bricked the phone a few times following directions and then ran across the Little bricker Rom that had GREAT directions and loaded first time perfectly.
So for you old timers I might say step back every once in a while when you are writing the great write ups you do and think of the first time you did it. It is the little things that count and are left out most of the time
As Android grows you are going to have to deal with it more and more and you just can't keep kicking people in the teeth or they will not return. GOOD you say? No not good. Not everyone wants an Apple and you do not want to wind up like Nokia or the old PDA platforms that are dead and gone.
So take this how you may. I did get where I needed to go but a simple 20 minute gig took 18 hours to figure out because of the little things all of you take for granted and do not always include.
Thank you for the site
All said here is true but as a noob i must say that there is a lack of usual information here.
A BIG lack...
The problem is visual.
The stickies was made by a dev. Just find a good NOOB to do it and youll be fine.
The first stickie must be how to flash a rom. But this one is not there. It is inside of another stickie at the line 157... cmon
The noob that decides to flash wont read all the stuff. He'll just read the info that he wants.

I don't think there is a lack of information, far from it. I think the problem is that the information is scattered. For example, the guy 2 posts up that tried to use a .zip in Odin...the information that you need to use a .tar is posted in these forums, it's just not in an easily accessible place like the FAQs. I think it's a combination of: lack of organization on the forum's side and laziness on the user's side.
Sorry about my english, there is a communication lack.
you are right, the info was there but people just dont get it...why is that?
Ive edited my previous post...
There is too much info. The noob needs the basic. Step by step he will learn.
Inside the Red stickie, look at the title of the topics listed there.
That is chinese to a noob.
How to flash custom binaries... what a hell is a binarie?
How to flash... the counter?
What... counter?
That is not made for noobies...as i said before, find a noob to do it.

I think some of you have forgotten how this place originally came about and its primary purpose. It was and still is, mostly, a place for developers and development. It was never supposed to be a help desk. That it is a great resource for people needing help is a secondary byproduct, not its raison de'tre. I think this misunderstanding is what leads to incorrect assumptions and expectations and, in turn, hurt feelings when the forum doesn't meet what some think it should be.

I respectfully disagree. The noob does not need a step by step guide. The noob needs to read, research, and learn so that he (or she) can make sense of the available information. a quick guide so the noob "can haz ROM nao" is only going to lead to a disappointed, knowledge lacking noob later on down the line...

And you need to remember that the developers in here, for the most part, don't get paid for what they do. We get all their great stuff for free. Actually, we get it for the cost of doing our own research and finding our own solutions. Seems like a fair trade to me.
And as dandrum noted, helping noobs by leading them by the hand is a bad idea. People need to understand fully what they are doing and what it does because otherwise when they inevitably run into a problem they will have no idea what to do to fix it or where to start to even look. This stuff isn't rocket science, but it does require a certain level of comprehension. it is unfair to expect the unpaid members of this forum to bail people out when something goes wrong because they either didn't do their homework or have no understanding of what they're doing.

From my perspective I feel as though the vast majority of the time I have virtually no reason to post.
This is usually because of one of the following:
a- someone else has asked a question that I do not have the answer to, not that I'm a n00b but do not know or I would rather leave it up to the real devs to deal with it;
b- I would just be either flaming someone for asking a stupid question or leave a stupid question unanswered because some things should just be figured out by yourself; or most importantly
c- if i have a question or some other issue I can search for it or spend time reading through many posts because there are enough people and knowledgeable people around here that at this point my question or any sort of problem has already been answered, or at least the question has already been asked so there is no reason to spam the same questions over and over.
so just always remember before you make a possibly redundant post there are plenty of us sitting back and reading because usually that is all you need to do

HELP!

Hello there. Basically, I was on the newest (I think) Alliance Rom with Dorimanx kernel for s2. however, it began to get quite buggy, and I tried to flash a new kernel onto it. Siyah. then I tried to flash Cyanogenmod onto it. Restarted, phone won't load past the siyah logo. But I get the siyah recovery menu thing still. But when I try to install the cyanogenmod zip, it fails. I have no other roms on my sd card, or kernels, for that matter.
Please can somebody advise me what to do. I need my phone for work in 5 hours! I was thinking a fix possibly with Odin? Although, I'm guessing if I wiped the phone, kies will no longer be on there. Not sure what it means for it.
thanks.
It's Jellybean by the way
1) Use a more descriptive title than 'HELP !'. Many people will ignore your thread/not read it for that alone (which means you might miss out on help).
2) If you've still got CWRecovery, you still should be able to flash something without resorting to Odin. I would suggest perhaps you're not following the instructions on the first page of the CM thread to the letter. Try it again.
If you really can't flash anything in recovery & still have bootloop (I.E recovery seems broken), get a stock rom from Samfirmware, flash it with Odin = clean slate & you can then re-root your phone & have another go at flashing whatever rom/kernel you want to use.
Thanks, and thanks for telling me about the title, I guess, my apologies, but urgency is urgency.
I can't get any zip files onto my phone or the SD card. so flashing from the phone is pretty much a no.
I can try Odin, however, I barely know what it is. Is anybody willing to just tell me what to click?
No spoon feeding allowed mate. No one will hold your hand and tell you what button to click. I may as well fly over there and do it myself.
If you want to know about Odin flashing click the link in my signature and look at the section on how to flash.
But, I still don't think you need to use Odin. In CWM recovery, Mount usb storage, connect to pc, transfer rom.zip onto phone sd from pc, unmount usb & then flash rom. Done.

Okay.. Seems a bit odd, being a help section, in a forum. I just figured since I'm dealing with something that could potentially break/brick my phone, I would rather do it right as opposed to wrong, considering I have never done it myself before.
Thanks though, I didn't actually know I could mount it without actually booting the phone. I'll try that.

Yet you still haven't changed it. Urgency may well be urgency, but you either want to make that small change & potentially get the help you need if you get stuck further, or you don't. No skin off any of our noses either way *shrugs*.
P.S - Forum rules are forum rules.
Edit - And the reason Hopper said what he said - this may well be a Q&A forum, but that doesn't mean we regurgitate stuff that's been asked/answered thousands of times over the past two years for any n00b who thinks they deserve same.
I'm not even being harsh with what I say. I didn't write out the steps, but I did give you a direct link to a place which lists the steps. That's a legitimate A to your Q.

Just a few more that just say "help". I can see that it is not posing a ****ing problem. Not to mention (may be my fault) but I don't see any way to change the title.
As far as I'm concerned mate, I wanted help with something, went to the HELP section of a FORUM, and got help, so you can go **** yourself if you have a problem with that. I don't go to forums to just chat about my day. If what I did ask was too much for you, then just let someone help who is more helpful than you. I didn't ask anybody to troll the net for files, or anything of the sort, I asked for legitimate help with something I didn't know how to do.
Either way, I've managed to fix the problem, so no more needs to be done.
Thank you to those who gave me advice.

Please show respect to senior members. They have been here longer than you, obviously dealt with problems much similar to your and want you to search for yourself, that is why the search buttons are there. Did you watch 'I am a noob in XDA Developers' video?
And you obviosuly have no idea why they say this, but it's because you will learn for yourself. In near future you will search and find answers yourself if you start now (which they are trying to make you do) other than just relying on other people to do your work for you. That's not the way XDA developers work.
So rather then being disrespectful and throwing insults at them, you should thank them

Yes - I appreciate the fact that I was helped the amount I was, but I could say the same. Is that the best way to treat new members? I have already apologized twice for my mistakes, at least, and I STILL have people telling me I'm doing things wrong. Also, it's not like I haven't thanked them. I think I thanked them at the end of nearly every post. Anything else to pick at?
I'm not trying to disrespect - just trying to prove my point. If you didn't want to help me, don't, just don't ***** about the fact that I wanted help. :/
My problem is fixed, that's all that matters.
thanks again.

Yes - I appreciate the fact that I was helped the amount I was, but I could say the same. Is that the best way to treat new members? Yes it's the right way to treat new members.
You are doing things wrong, respecting other members is a rule of XDA and you're not doing it - so you're doing it wrong.
Good you thanked. But was i necessary to disrespect. Yes you were disrespecting.
Prove your point? That it's okay to spoonfeed newbies and making them think that they wont have to do anything, just ask and wait?! No that's not right, as already stated.
You wanted to help how exactly? To tell us that we should do it 'the way you like it'? No that's wrong, accept it!
Dont come here and try to flame, there's a rule against that. Take you crap elsewhere, cause with that attitude you probably wont get much help around here or anywhere else for that matter.
This is my last post and visit here, so dont even bother commenting if there anything about me.
