Hello
I'm thinking of getting an atrix
But have heard of a locked bootloader on Motorola devices what does this mean
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
there wont be any custom ROMs for the phone until someone is able to get past it without bricking theirs.. if you are not the kind to flash custom ROMs onto your phones, this probably wont affect you much.

The bootloader is what loads up the operating sytem in very simple terms. By locking or signing it, it means that we need to present motorola's certificate every time we want to load a custom ROM/kernel.
Though what he says is true, you can still root the phone, install pseudo-custom ROMs (they are all right here in the forums) and do tons of other things.
This is still a great great phone though and probably the best in the market in my opinion.

Im trying to figure out the same... its either a Atrix or a LG optimus 2x... reaalllyyy confused... esp since i loved the full customization on my SGS just like you...!!
Bootloader is unlocked now. no worries

Yea had it for a few days unlocked the loader in gb
But gave it to my sister.
Temporarily got an hd2
I have the Atrix on Telus Mobility. It's unlocked and I am running Gingerbreak right now as we speak. I love the phone but i hope This works.
So my girlfriend just recently made the android switch (yay!). She got a vibrant on ebay that is unlocked for at&t, but is still on android 2.1. My question is, if she wanted to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3, what would be the best way to go about it?
Will it inevitably relock the phone and i will have to unlock it?
Thanks in advance!

Obviously i have to root it first. Really what i was looking to know is will it relock if i root or flash another rom? Mostly just trying to see how much time i should set aside for the whole process

no it shouldnt, i got mine unlocked and ive been on 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and im still unlocked
to root, back up(apps and current rom), flash and restore(apps) it'll probably only take like 30 min - an hour tops if you know what your doing
read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 if you need to know
Nice.. ty ty. I have a little experience, i rooted my g2 with the dreaded security locked bootloader hehe. Shouldnt be too hard to root, i was more worried about relocking. Thanks for the info!

Ok I am almost at the point of trying a Rom. My questions are..
1) being htvdev unlocked ota upgraded are there roms I cannot install? If so how can I tell.
2)again with the ota restriction can I use goo manager to install or do I need to use fastboot flash boot to do it.
3)looking for advice on a good Rom to install. Not sure about going senseless not that I am against it just I realize it is more than just the pretty face. Although the only widget I use is fancy widgets do not think that requires sence but I could be wrong. I would like the rom with the best multitask capabilities. Super user of course and buttons renapped for sure. The fastest most stable Rom woukd be best.
4) I have reset google wallet so will I be safe from bricking my chip?
Thanks for any and all help

Can someone please help me. I am afraid of making a mistake.I want to start by just flashing a stock rooted ROM. I have downloaded 3 but not really sure what to do.. Right bore I am downloading stock rooted odes.zip.
What I think I do is take the boot.img out of it and use fastboot to flash it..

I suggest you try venom rom 4G, and most users have been anticipating it for a long time. I download that and I would be happy guiding you trough the process, and it's easy! Try most things are automated now

Well I have goo manager and twrp installed but they need root which I do not have. I figured I would just flash a room that had root already in it. How will I flash a ROM .. Should be the same for all.

If you are unlocked, and have twrp, you can flash a rom with the root.

So i have a LWW (WT19i), I recently rooted it and flashed it.
I installed this rom about two weeks ago with CWM
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1490166
i currently have my phone rooted and using MIUI, roottoolbox, titaniumbackup and stuff....
The weird thing is that, in the description of the ROM it says that unlocked bootloader is required,
but it was working perfectly with my locked bootloader, until yesterday.
The phone started crashing and freezing out of nowhere, apparently it had something to do with overclocking it
because I disabeled the overclocking and it worked a bit faster but just... not like it was working a week ago
it freezes sometimes, google chrome takes like two eternitys to load.
maybe it is because of the bootloader thingy??? i don't know...
and why did it work in the first place?!?!
does it mean CM works also?
so i guess the only thing i have to do is get a full wipe and install the ROM again? or maybe some other ROM
i really want to install CM9 it seems really interesting, but.... freaking bootloader....
So i'm kind of lost... i'm really lost.... apparently i can't use CM9.1 or MIUI because i dont have unlocked bootloader, but they work anyhow?
and i can't unlock it, i really have no idea how to do it. i've read like 158932 different tutorials and they are all different
some tell me i can't do it, it won't ever work and i should drown in my tears for all eternity, and others tell me i have to download freaking eclipse
and start programing in java...
i just get lost with that many incoherence....
I really want to install a nice and comfortable rom so i can rest and use the phone
im just tired of flashing and rooting and reflashing.
....CM9... 10?... looks nice.....
so, are there any sugestions ???? what should i do?
should i just reinstall MIUI what if it gets slow again ?
also... can someone please for the love of Godzilla explain me how can i unlock my bootloader ?? if it is possible
you guys probably get this a lot but sorry for my poor english...
thanks a lot
bye

Does you phone has Sim lock? ok so u can check this by hiting the *#*#7378423#*#* and go to service info/ SIM lock. see the pic? if it has any lock, you can try this it may work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675718 good luck and anything just let us know
From my opinion its impossible to unlock bootloader if its not allowed. If you want the taste of custom rom then change the phone

I have been reading up on how to unlock the bootloader on my p769, and I tried this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198114. However, when i tired doing the adb command it restarted normally, without unlocking the bootloader. Then, I saw this comment (#45) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474689&page=5. I took out the battery from my L9 and it said "S/W: V10B". Does this mean because it came with ICS out of the box, I can unlock the bootloader? If so, what method do I have to do? This? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277639. This? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198114. Or follow this guy's comment (#46)? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474689&page=5.

I'm also going to install busybox v8.9. I'm going to try flashing the T-Mobile ICS 10G, then 20B to get that out of the way. If it doesn't work, I'll try euro 10G followed by euro 20B.

I just discovered that a hard reset while on 20b may cause a semi-lock of the bootloader. What a joke by LG if this is true. We may be locking up the bootloader ourselves with adb reboot oem-unlock!

Well played, LG. So what's the other option?
I'm going to do everything as stated in the video. When I get to the point that the boot screen freezes, I'll just re-flash the kdz. I'll let you know how I do tonight.
That message was intended for P760 users but I'm willing to assume that it applies to all L9 phones.

I'm working on doing this myself. I don't understand..how come it works for some but doesn't others? Everything went smooth for me until the adb reboot oem-unlock command. My phone just rebooted..no unlock screen as saw in the video. I'm not 100% sure but I'm thinking this could be because I didn't have a Sim card in the phone, I only had WiFi. I'm unlocked however and have a At&t compatible net10 Sim I just received. I'm thinking of trying now that I have a Sim card but I had read that some people believe it MUST be a T-Mobile sim which I do not have. Has anyone that just reboots with no unlock after the oem- unlock command been running a T-Mobile Sim card? To me it seems that if these other L9s are able to be unlocked we certainly should be able to as well. I believe its a fine detail we are missing somewhere along the line that allows some while not allowing others. Does anyone have a extra T-Mobile Sim they would be willing to donate to test with or sell very cheap for testing see if maybe it must be a t mobile Sim card. Another thing that came into question was the USB drivers. When I tried to install the ones provided with the bootloader unlock for noobs file I was unable to install them because I already had drivers installed. It stated these were a newer version and needed to be uninstalled to install the ones provided. I did not do this. I just proceeded with the newer drivers I already had installed. Just a few thoughts.
