HTC EVO LTE reboots continuosly, display dark - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Weird experience today..used my phone at lunch, no issues. Went to to use it this afternoon and it would not wake up. I held the power button down for about 10-15 seconds, then it vibrated like it was rebooting. That's when it started to vibrate every 10-15 seconds, similar to a boot loop, but the display is dark. I'm unable to get it to boot into hboot, or recovery. When plugged in, the charging indicator does not illuminate. I think it's bricked. I'm running s-off, and MeanBean. This is the first time I've ever experienced an issue like this with any of my android phones.
I hope that once the battery dies, I can charge it and hope that it boots into hboot, or recovery.
Any suggestions?

Damn. Seeing a lot of posts like this lately. Making me nervous
Sorry, wish I knew what to tell you.

This has happened to me. It is in what I believe diag mode or something. I kept holding the power and volume to get in recovery, which it did go to, and I wiped all caches, and re flashed the rom, and all was good! Hope that helps.

I dropped my phone off at a Sprint Service Center today...they tried everything to restore it, or get it to boot for that matter. It's dead, replacement phone on the way.

I had the same thing happen to my phone and came across this thread while looking for a solution. I also ended up having to get it replaced. Fortunately I did a full back-up three days prior to it crapping out so I didn't loose much.

[Q] No Power at All

So something very weird has happened..
I had my phone plugged in charging as I was going to sleep, everything was working fine. I wake up 4 hours later, and go to check my phone but nothing happens, and I notice that I have no charging light, nothing. I unplug the charger and plug it into my computer...nothing, I try a different cord...nothing. I tried holding the power button, but still nothing. I'm really confused as to what could have happened, because like I said it was just sitting there charging, I don't keep any open water anything near it either, so that couldn't have happened.
My phone is rooted, and is s-off, I was running MeanRom 4.3 when this happen, and it had been on that for 4 days without any issues.
Any Ideas what could have happened, or what I can?
so quick update, phone started rebooting like crazy all of a sudden. I heard it vibrate on my night stand, and noticed it was on the HTC boot screen, then it went black, and did it again. So I held power+volume down and got to the bootloader, but again it just randomly rebooted while it was in bootloader, as it was restarting it made it to the start up animation, however just went black again for about 3-4 mintues, then started rebooting again....I am very confused...
Well I had the same problem, but my phone Never got reboots or anything just dead.. Ended up with service on guarantee and they had to change the moderboard of my phone

man I hope that not the issue, but its rebooting like crazy now, and I actually rebooted enough to fully boot at one point, and the weird thing is, the Back buttong, home button and recent apps button were flashing, just like they do when you hold the power button in...

I had the same problem with my first 2 EVOS, the just went dead but in my case they never came back up, Sprint replaced both under the 2 weeks warranty period... Bad batch maybe?

Well looks like a trip to Best buy at lunch today (I have the Bestbuy insurance because there is no fee for insurance claims...)
I'm just worried that while I'm there that it will try to start bootlooping, and they will see the text on the "Quietly Brilliant" screen, or it will go far enough to show MeanRom's boot animation, and they will stop the thing on the spot. After posting this morning it has had 2-3 sessions of wild boot loops, where it is continuous every couple of seconds rebooting. In the 3 minutes I've been typing this, it has gone through probably 10 cycles, each time making to the end of the Quietly Brilliant HTC screen where it shows the "This build is for HTC Development only..." yikes...
Best buy doesn't care if its rooted man. I brought in 2 rooted EVO's and exchanged them on the spot. Most of them don't even know what root is. If they did they don't know about the HTC dev screen.

[Q] Problems with booting into Recovery/ODIN

Flashing going fine, but just have a bit of an annoying problem. To boot into ODIN or Recovery, I have to keep trying and trying before it sticks and finally gets into what I want.
Right now I'm trying to get into recovery. Phone is off, I hold VolUp and the Power button. The phone buzzes and starts to turn on. However, sometimes it just shuts right back down. Other times, the Samsung logo appears with "loading recovery" in the top left, I release the buttons only to have it shut down again. Very rarely, I can get into Recovery or ODIN.
Anyone know why this or how to solve this?
Thanks!

That sounds odd... especially since at that point the phone is not booted so it's down at the hardware level. Maybe defective?

not sure, but got a ROM loaded up so i can just reboot into recovery. problem solved!
I had this same problem...I couldn't really figure out what was wrong but I too just use the boot to recovery option in the 4-way reboot menu. It'd be kinda nice to figure out what was wrong, though.
just found another issue. after my battery dies, i need to let it charge for 10-15 minutes before i can power it on.
my previous phone seemed to have a tiny bit "of reserve" to let you boot up and at least be functional while you were charging.
is this just a HW limitation on the S4 or is something up?

Usually you can wait a few minutes and charge it. That's how it was on the S3. I haven't let me phone die completely yet because the battery life is so good it lasts all day o when I go to bed it charges on my bedside and doubles as my wake up alarm as well as my medication alarms.

Sounds good. I just picked up one of those "lipstick" portable chargers as well, so will probably keep that on me at all times.

[Q] Left phone in the car. Now it's stuck on bootloader

Had some soccer games to ref this morning and didn't set my phone out of the sunlight. Came out to the car after the games and it was off and very warm. Tried turning it on and it wouldn't. After I got home and it cooled down on the car A/C the whole way home it only does the below things.
The phone will flash the LG logo and then go to a black screen with the backlight running. nothing further happens after that. I can put it in download mode and such, but I really don't want to wipe my phone. Any ideas as to why it is only stuck at the bootloader.

It should blink slowly or maybe pulse would better describe it. I had that happen from heat when running benchmarks. Was able to get it to boot by plugging it in , powering it on and off then unplugging, then plugging it in and powering it on until the light blinked and charging animation showed. Others have taken phone apart and diconnected battery.

Just moments before you replied I began a re-flash of stock ROM. (probably a somewhat hasty decision in hind sight.)
I am beginning to fear more... It just show the battery charging animation on the screen now and will only make it to the AT&T music before locking up and going no further.
I read stories elsewhere of serious battery problems from leaving it get that hot. I hope I am just being paranoid and that the phone is truly just a dead battery. Although that doesn't make any sense considering it was at 100% this morning and the phone has been off more than on since then with no use at all.
Many thanks again for any help! I am certainly not new to rooting and such and have been an XDA lurker for many years. I am very proficient with phone issues and if there is anything else more technical to try I am not afraid to try that as well.

Do you mean you used lgnpst to restore?
If at this point it appears to be charging right and still hangs on boot you may need to do a factory reset. It will wipe your internal storage though. If you wish to try that it is done by powering off then holding volume down and power until reset menu comes up.

Yes, LGNPST.
Having troubles with vol down - power button. Seemed like I had issues with this last time when I nearly bricked it trying to root the phone.
Thanks again for the help. Almost in the home stretch now I think. Just waiting for it to get a charge now.
I had this happen once using Navigation on a cheap car charger.
I was in unknown territory, but as I got back to the main highway, I found myself knowing where I was going and stopped paying attention to my phone.
This lead to my phone getting hotter and hotter until it shat itself and would only display a black screen. I unplugged it and attempted to turn it off, which seemed to work. I left it off for an hour or so until I got home. It still wouldn't turn on for a while, so I stuck it on the charger. After a few minutes, it came up fine.
YMMV.

[Q] Phone won't turn on (black screen) but it vibrates once every 34 seconds

I'm completely at a loss here. I was running a 4.3 rom for the past week or two with no issues. Pulled my phone out of my pocket 30 min ago, hit the power button and the screen wouldn't light up. I tried it again and still no go. I tried swiping to unlock, even with the black screen and i felt it vibrate.
Ever since then my phone is non responsive. I can't get it to boot, can't hard reset it, nothing. The vibrates stop when I'm holding down power and down volume but that's about it. I timed the constant vibrates and they happen every 34 seconds according to the Win8 clock (which i've heard in inaccurate).
I'm gonna let the battery drain and hope that it will boot back up after it dies...but until then, any ideas?
Try plugging it into your computer and see what comes up. Which 4.3 ROM were you on?

That's the first thing I tried. I get nothing when i plug it into my comp. Nothing pops up in device manager. The comp doesn't detect it at all.
And I was running the 8/23 release of carbon 4.3 and I didn't have one problem with it until this happened :\
EDIT: The phone's battery finally ran out. It stopped vibrating and after a bit i plugged it in. After a few min it just starting doing it again.
I disassembled the phone and removed the battery for awhile hoping it would somehow help. Didn't do anything. It showed the flashing charge light (like when it's really low) for maybe a minute then it stop lighting up at all. Sometimes if i leave it unplugged for a bit and plug it back in it will flash the light again. That's about all I'm getting out of it now.
I'm thinking something failed internally. It happened while it was on and I was using it so there's no possibility that it was from a flash or anything like that.
Took my phone to the sprint store. The tech wasn't sure either but he thought it might be the screen that died. The vibrating could be the phone trying to boot then realizing there's no screen. They took it apart to check for moisture/damage and said I'm good to go for the $50 replacement.
So my new Evo will be here Tuesday.

did you resolved it i'm having same had same issue as you mine is htc sensation but think is the same thing ive replacet the digitizer some day ago and it was working very good untill it start to vibrate and than died, now it flashes an orange light when i try to charge and after a while stops but i cant power it on nothing hapens when i press power button
Did you resolve the issue?
Did you ever resolve this issue? My Evo LTE started doing the exact same thing this evening and all of the Sprint stores are closed until tomorrow. I figure it's something internal that died and I can't see what it's trying to do... I guess you just got the replacement and didn't ever get it resolved with that particular phone?

Stuck at Splash Screen

Hi,
I have a Sprint 4G LTE rooted with VIPER rom installed. Last night my phone freaked out, so I did the 10 second "battery pull" and it started up again. I plugged it into the charger and I fell asleep without much worry.
I woke up to find my phone stuck at the LTE splash screen of the VIPER rom. I've done the 10 second "battery pull" several times, and it doesn't just shut the phone off, it forces a reboot. Each time it only makes it as far as the LTE splash screen.
My experience with phones and computers is telling me that the OS might have gotten corrupt some how since it is stuck at the splash screen.
I do have access to the bootloader, so I have some paths I can go down, factory reset/recovery, but both those I'd like to avoid so that I do not lost the contents of my storage.
I have had VIPER rom installed for a good half year, so this issue isn't due to a new rom being flashed.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
-billypilgrim
When data gets corrupted, all you can do is wipe and start over. I had to do that once when running Viper as well.
Just a thought in trying to be helpful....
I used that ROM for a while myself and never really had any issues but have had a similar situation.
I pulled my sd card out and backed it all up. Replaced SD card.
Then went into recovery and reflashed the ROM.
Worked solid after that and no explanation as to why it was corrupt/hanging in a loop.
Hope this helps..

I have that happen several times. Nothing obvious that causes it. Cap'n is right need to wipe and re-flash. Here's the small trick since it just keeps rebooting on you, after you hold power for ten seconds and the screen blacks out. Make sure the capacitive buttons go out as well, that split second they go dark let go of the power button and press vol down and power to get it back into bootloader. Then you can get back in recovery to flash.
