OK so I'm trying to downgrade my phone from Honeycomb to gingerbread. Thus far I've unlocked the bootloader, installed super user, well anyway I'm at the point of installing the RUU. According to globaltrons guide, my flyer which is a 16 gig wifi US only model, should use one of the brightstar firmwares. Well I tried both and I get an UNKNOWN ERROR 1555 telling me I have the wrong RUU. Now my flyer is sitting here draining the battery and I can't get it to turn off. And can someone just tell me what RUU I need? I'm sure all 16 gig us flyers are the same anyway. Its the refirb from buy.com. Anyone else who bought one probably has the same RUU
Alright help just isn't coming fast enough so I finally got it to shut off. I just remembered the 3 button trick from my captivate and waddayaknow it worked on the flyer. Now I'm going to try again and see what RUU i'm supposed to run.
Alright now that I'm out of that mess I checked the CID again and its BS_US001, and according to the guide, I should use a brightstar RUU. Well there are 2 and I tried both and both told me I'm using the wrong one. So what the hell?
i would try following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
If you need to get to fast boot you should be able to do that by holding power and volume down for around 20 seconds
Do you have the Fastboot drivers installed?
I should have fastboot drivers installed. I mean I've connected it fastboot and ran many adb commands...doesn't that mean fastboot drivers are installed? Also the RUU gets to "signature verification" and fails every time!! I actually went back through and changed the version number to the version number of the other brightside ruu and same issue! Globaltron's guide must be wrong.
Anyway my tab is running right now on stock honeycomb, just no progress is being made here and its frustrating the hell out of me! I've been stuck on the same damn step for 2 days now!
the link for the BASE RUU you need is http://hyuh.net/files/flyer/RUU_US_WIFI_B10.zip
This will get the device charging again, howver you will then have to flash a custom ROM,
Globatrons Guide will show you how to use the light version i have linked to.
Any questions just as as i have done the process lots of times
Give me the details of where you started from and what you did. I think you missed a couple steps
Alright cool, but does it turn off security? I still got S-on as I need that RUU installed so I can disable it.

Ok well boot the device into fastboot then put the file i have linked tointo the same folder as your fastboot normall C:/android/Android-skd-windows/Tools
Then run the following commands
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <downloaded file name>
Flashing will fail with Error 90 first time due to hboot change (this is normal)
fastboot flash zip <downloaded file name>
The on screen indicator on the phone will not reach fully to the right end of the progress bar, this is ok
fastboot reboot

I first unlocked the tablet through HTC developers. Then I followed step by step and installed revolutionary, and then used revolutionary to install super user permissions. I then ran this command:
fastboot getvar cid
To get the CID. The CID came back as BS_US001. So I looked at Globaltrons guide and according to it, the ones that say "Brightstar" are the ones I need. 2 came up, but the numbers that were supposed to match, matched on both, so I just picked one. the download was capped so bad from that file sharing site that I just let it download overnight and went to bed.
So today I resumed my work. I next ran these commands
adb push misc_version /data/local/misc_version
adb shell
$ su
# chmod 777 /data/local/misc_version
# /data/local/misc_version -s (whatever the version number was)
and then I rebooted into fastboot, ran the first RUU and UNKNOWN ERROR
So I repeated the last steps with the other RUU and UNKNOWN ERROR...

Are you S-Off Yet ?
If yes try the file i suggested, its quick and easy and then allow you to flash custom roms
p.s. i will be able to stop up until you get this sorted. So we will try it now
I'm not because if I read correctly I have to be on gingerbread to turn it off. And thats where I'm at now. The tablet has stock Honeycomb 3.2 installed. I'm basically just trying to get from stock honeycomb, to honeycomb with S-off if that helps.
Were you on hc or gb, does your bootloader say soff, what is your end game here
I got my tablet on February 29th and did the ota update to honeycomb as soon as I had it. I've kept it stock till now. My end point is honeycomb with S-off basically. If I can get to honeycomb S-off without going back to gingerbread first than I'm all for it, but if I read correctly, you have to be on gingerbread with s-off to go to honeycomb with s-off.
After all that I figured I might install leedroid.

Ok i understand where you are now , firstly are you still getting the problem where your device isn't charging ?
And the RUU you have downloaded is definitely correct ?
Man do I miss my captivate. It was as simple as #1. Plug in computer. #2. Install super one click, and you could install any rom you wanted... but it didn't have a security lock, nor did it ever have a locked bootloader either.

Oh sorry, no I got my tablet to reboot. Its sitting on my desk idling in stock honeycomb right now. And it charges fine. I just can't get an RUU to run. There are 2 brightstars so I downloaded both, and neither work. Maybe there's a third one , but according the CID the brightstar one SHOULD work, it just doesn't. According the readme with the RUU the error I"m getting means incorrect RUU.
Ex captivate user here as well, yea this is a bit more
Did you relock bootloader prior to attempting ruu

Just tried downloading them to check the RUU and the link seems to be broken, did your deffinately download ok ?
Whats the filesize, GLobatrons guide has been spot on for hundreds of users
no its still unlocked. I just had a thought here. 2 ideas actually. #1. I don't have an sd card currently in, as I never bought one for my flyer. On the steps that required an sd card I just pulled the one from my phone. I dunno maybe the RUU wants to copy itsself to the SD-card but can't because its not there. Also #2. I did reinstall my apps last night so I could use my tablet today, which are all in the internal storage. If I wipe my tablet and put an SD-card in, might that fix the problem?
So my friend a few months ago was messing around with his evo 3d and managed to brick it. He couldn't fix it so he got a new phone and gave the 3d to me a few days ago. The phone powers on but is stuck on the htc splash screen. The phone goes into recovery/fastboot mode via power and volume down. I've found a thread on how to fix it, but I have no idea how to do any of it. I've googled for about an hour now and can't quite figure out what exactly their talking about.
Here is the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897719
He says he ran the lock cmd for the phone to relock the bootloader I'm guessing. I'm guessing I have to run this through dos. After he did this he ran the ruu.exe which I downloaded.
Anyways, I'm essentially clueless when it comes to htc phones, so if someone could give me a rundown of exactly what to do in plain english it would be much appreciated.
You need to be booted into a linux live environment. If you have a burnable CD / DVD I can help you out.

I have an old copy of backtrack, would that work?
That'll be fine. Just get backtrack up and running, then install teamviewer and pm me the id / password and I'll help you out.
Well if it goes to recovery, you don't have to do all that, just make sure hboot is right version, s off and unlocked then flash a rom.i don't even think unlocked is required
Edit: Sorry, just read first post thoroughly, go on with the install process

If you are able to relock you should be able to issue the following fastboot command that will return a key for the model of your phone:
fastboot getvar cid

Ctrl+Alt+T to open up a terminal. Then cd into the folder where all your dirtyracun/babyracun files are. Then run all the commands from there. Most commands require you to be in fastboot on your phone. Babyracun requires you to be in TWRP. And babyracun is only required if you have the 3.16 OTA installed (which is what the first step tells you).
Ok, so I will be trying this tomorrow. I hope I can get throu it. Ill report back.

Are you running the commands from the folder your fastboot file is? If you download dirtyracun, one of the files in there is fastboot, just cd into the folder where you extracted them and run the command from there.
Other than that, make sure your phone says "fastboot usb" when plugged into the computer and in fastboot.

My Evo LTE is the first time I've ever had to use adb or fast boot and install SDK. I did, and I've used fastboot a few times now (not on this device, actually, on a GNex I have to maintain). But I'm really new to ASB, fastboot, and Linux commands. It might be helpful to explain what CD is/means. It would be helpful to me, too.

Sorry. The command "cd" (change directory) plus the folder or path to where the dirty racun files are. If you don't know the path, you can do
cd ls
to list the directories. If you see the folder you want, like your "dirtyracun" folder (or whatever you called it),
cd dirtyracun
will put you in that folder. This and putting "sudo ./" before every fastboot command is all the linux you need to know to s-off.

Well I cant even get that far, right now eveytime I pkug in my phone I am getting

any help? I need it to recignise my phone first right?
Is your phone in fastboot? I've never seen or heard of that error.
so I need to boot the phone to fastboot first? Ill try this now... Anyone one a "live chat" channle? that might help.
Ok so im in fastboot and im getting this
[email protected]:~# su
[email protected]:~#
[email protected]:~# dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
dd: opening `/sdcard/twrp.img': No such file or directory
Unlimited io is good with help on irc. Post questions here and I could probably answer. Give me your phone info (info on the bootloader) and I could make you an easy/basic list of steps you need to take in order.
What are you currently trying to do?
dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img
Did you change the name of the recovery to "twrp.img" before putting it on your internal memory?
How to I access the irc?
I need to s-off and root my phone
s-on
hboot- 2.09
I cant seem to get by this step. Stuck on step 9 of DirtyRacun
My RUU.zip is in the Dirtyracun folder on Ubuntu LiveCD and have verified the checksum. Ihave seen by a google search that other people outher have had this problem (pastebin) but I havent been able to find a solution. Can anyone help me? Everry thing has worked in the s-off process til now...
Have you tried the support channel? Are you on 3.16? If not you can use FacePalm
I had firefox crash on me and this RUU takes forever to download. Right now I am stuck at the HTC logo and cant move forward. I have tried the IRC but i sat there for 30 min looking at no response. I have downloaded this thing 4 times now.
if I ty fastboot reboot, it tells me I ont have fastboot installed? I wouldnt mind trying something else if I could get my phone back!
Hmmmm I never used DirtyRacun so can't really help much IRC is your only choice sorry
Edit did you try flushing it again?

do you have htc sync installed? it seems that you need to have this installed to have the phone recognized for fastboot it happened to me and I have used dirty racun twice as I had my evo replaced twice this month, install it and then try to run the fast boot commands, good luck!
Mac problem?
Could the problem is that I'm running Ubuntu from my MAC? See this post:
Can't post the link, but found this on androidforums:
That's based on HTCdev unlock, so as mentioned, use MyBackup Pro and SMS Backup+ to save what you may, that unlock will do a factory data reset, all user data and apps will go away.
That will give you full root, with an s-on unlocked bootloader.
The option to get a s-off unlocked bootloader is only open to you if you have a Windows platform to run the Dirty Racun tool - either in Windows mode or from a Live CD using Ubuntu. (This has to do with how the Mac platform maps access to the usb ports, the Unlimited.IO team's stuff doesn't support it.)
If you do have a PC and want to try Dirty Racun, go here -

All I can tell you is that it worked for me. AT&T Unlocked HBOOT 1.55, firmware 3.17.502.3, ROOTED... just like yours. After I ran rumrunner a prompt appeared on the phone screen that I confirmed with OK and that was it. The phone rebooted several times and ended up with LOCKED HBOOT and S-OFF. I had to unlock again with a new Unlock code from htcdev.

Did you do this on windows 8
Did u have to extract the rumrunner zip into a specific folder such as fastboot folder and run it from there?, did u need adb drivers it says if you htcdev unlock the adb doesn't need to be downloaded.
I mean of all else fails where's the exact files /links you used , there's to many variables here can you help any further ?
Why won't my phone keep rebooting past the 2nd fastboot reboot instead just keeps counting.

Yes I did this on Win 8. I unzipped the file in a folder on the desktop and ran soju.exe file. I had the ADB drives installed for my previous HTC One X. Didn't download anything extra except for the rumrunner.zip. Make sure you are full stock and rooted. Also you have to uninstall HTC Sync if you have it installed.

I'm starting to think I'm experiencing a usb3.0 issue on my gateway which is apparently a huge issue topic under the how to get around soff block thread ..
Windows Usb3.0 on windows 8 doesn't work well with fastboot.
But it seems complicated to change/force Intel usb3.0 drivers which allow fastboot adb to work flawlessly in place of the windows 3.0 usb .
That's the whole issue here I believe.

Hboot 1.55 LOCKED S-Off w/ Rumrunner
So, I unlocked my boot loader with HTCDEV. I than used Rumrunner to gain s-off and root. It worked but now it says Tampered "locked" but is S-off. I'd like to unlock my bootloader and if possible without HTCDEV again. I just got the phone set back up. I backed up my apps but I couldn't get TWRP to load through a flashing app or Goomanager. I'm guessing this is because I'm locked. Can anyone help?? Not sure what to do here. Sounds like you guys figured this out but I didn't see the howto..
is it ok to ask what the purpose of s- off is?
I had to be on stock ROM to be able to S-OFF when I tried the other day. I also had to put all the rumrunner files in the same folder as my sdk/adb stuff. Make sure, if your phone prompts you to accept the connection from the PC, to accept.
Is your phone even showing up when you try 'adb devices' ?
Yes, that all worked fine. I ended up installing Clock work through their app.. never could get twrp to work

The purpose of S-OFF is so you can change the CID (carrier ID) and a few other things. It is the master access to the phone pretty much. Once you change the CID you can flash stock ROMs (custom roms can be flashed without S-OFF), which allow you to convert your AT&T HTC one to the google play edition or any other edition like the European editions.
I got it to work on my One. I had to try twice. I think it failed the first time because of an SU permission popup or something which I pressed allow but then rumrunner ended without finishing. The second time it worked though.
How did you uninstall the HTC Sync app? I've tried a couple of different ways, but it comes back after I restart the phone.
