[Q] Fascinate 4.2.2 Jelly Bean CM10.1 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so I've been working on this issue for about the past 10 hours. It is not only extremely embarrassing, but also so very frustrating.
Alls I want, is to be able to download the stock SCH-i500 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Kernel, install ClockworkMod 4, and Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly with the appropriate gapps.
I've come to the conclusion that it's neigh impossible. I've been able to track down everything but the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean kernel; I've not come across a single resource (forum thread, web page) that links directly to the download for it.
if I could get some help, it would be more than greatly appreciated.

ROMs come with kernels and a recovery (cwm, devil, twrp) included...
If you need just a kernel refer to this picture

If you need instruction on how to properly install a 4.2.2 ROM and are coming from one not jellybean or ICS (4.x.x) related you need to follow droidstyle's guide
Every ROM listed in the development section in the last couple months is a 4.2.2 ROM
.

my understanding is that there are no stock 4.2.2 Jellybean Kernels for the Fascinate(as in issued by Samsung). They are all ported from other platforms and built.
the process is this if you have a stock phone-you need to root the phone first-easy to do using the guide and Odin program. then you can install a recovery like CWM to the directly to the phone.
After that you can easily flash the ROM of your choice along with GAPPS-as stated on this platform the ROMS seems to have their own embedded recovery programs
somebody correct me if I am wrong

Yeah the reason for that is because there is no 'official' 4.2.2 rom in the first place for the Fascinate- the last official release was 2.3 Gingerbread. Follow the link hhp posted to get any of the available 4.2.2 kernels.

I appreciate the information guys! You all helped out a lot and now I feel like a noob for not knowing or understanding that part!
EDIT: I was able to get Helly Bean with CM10.1 Nightly and 4.2.2 (jelly bean) installed correctly! It's amazing and was very much worth the effort.
Thanks again!

question
So, I just want to verify, if coming from 7.2 with 2.3.7 FBI on the fascinate, and want to goto 10.1 jb,I can just flash the 10.1 zip and then happened?? I don't need to do anything else with Odin?
I have 10.1 on my captivate and love it. Installed 7.2 on my friends fascinate because I was unsure what I needed to do to go from gb to jb.
So. The 10.1 comes with kernals and all and I just need to flash the zip from where I'm at???
Thanks in advance. This is my 4th device to root and flash roms too. But the first that was stock gb.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Confused

I've been searching and reading for the past two hours. I currently have stock Vibrant with the new J16 OTA update. I want to root my phone and install a custom rom. I see there are many ways to root, but can someone guide me to a tutorial that guides me through the best way to Rooting and flashing a custom rom? Secondly, is there a tutorial on how to get back to original factory rom for warranty?
Thank you

My $0.02, skip the FroYo ROMs for now, they are all broken to some extent. Bionix Fusion, for me anyway, is the best and most stable custom ROM available for the Vibrant. EVERYTHING works, and it is fast and rock solid!
Root Vibrant
Bionix Fusion 1.1
You can't go wrong from those links.

I like many on here my phone is a samsung i777 that is rooted with stock 2.3.6 firmware and my kernal is 2.6.35.7 build is GINGERBREAD.UCKK6. What do i need to flash in order to install themes on this device or are all themes universal? Say i wanted to install one of Money's Themes give me an example of what i must do and than i can figure out the rest on my own for different developers(this is just an example I'm not giving or taking any credit away from any developer) Any help would be appreciated.

To install any theme, you will need to install a custom ROM.. if you want to stay close to stock experience, you can get started by installing Unnamed or SHOstock. Once you install a custom ROM, you should find that ROM-specific themes.
And before you install any custom ROM, you will need a custom kernel (like Entropy's DD kernel or Siyah) to get a recovery like CWM or Redpill. You need recovery like that to install any custom ROM.
So.. read, read, read before you flash anything. All you need is patience.
Tip: Look at people's signatures.. that will give you an idea of what ROM/theme combo people use.

help me please because i don't want lose the device
Simply flash the stock ICS roms available for i9100G and you will be fine.
It is safe, just flash it or upgrade it. emmc bug is not a bug at all as you can still access your external SD card. No worries, you can still revert back to your stock rom by using Odin to flash the Stock GB rom. (If you really think you still want it..)
ICS is as stable as it is out there right now, if you worried, upgrade to stock ICS using Kies and then flash Codeworkx CWM Kernel, then use the CWM to flash the Divine Rom from Samyam2000 to retain the stock feel but optimised ICS, definately better than stock.. .then move on the the infinite world of flashing

Every one whome I asked they told me that there is emmc bug in all stock rom and there is some thing Prevent it from happening in the G one, so I want to be sure :/
Google "EMMC bug". It's a known fault with a small number of phones and can be fixed. The amount of people this bug terrifies is ridiculous. Just forget about it, if your phone doesn't have it (which it almost definitely doesn't) then go, if it does, then your phone will be hard bricked and you can get a replacement.

[Q] Noob Confused... please help...

OK, I have a galaxy S2 I9100 (to be rooted) stock ICS 4.0.4 baseband version I9100DDLPC and build number IMM76D.XWLQ2.
+ I have an insane chip
I have gone through a lot of threads and I am confused.
I found the root guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28178105
I want to follow the first step (for phones with brick bug).
After doing that, i want to get rid of my stock kernel. Can I flash the Siyah kernel through stock recovery? Which version of Siyah kernel is the latest while being safe from the brick bug?
Just flash a custom kernel via Odin and you'll have root access and you don't have to worry about the brick bug anymore (Siyah is safe). Check www.gokhanmoral.com for the version you need for ICS.
Thanks...

Thanks for the quick reply!
One more thing, after flashing Siyah suppose I want to install cm10/10.1, I just have to full wipe in cwm and flash the cm10 zip file right?
And is the CyanogenMod 10 kernel safe from the brick bug?

Read the thread for the particular version of CM you want to flash; read the first page for the instructions (which will be very clear) & follow those to the letter, then read the last 10-20 pages to get an idea of people's experiences with that version so you know what to expect.
Simple.
And yes, custom kernels are safe from the whole brick bug-thing.
Ive got to say that the brickbug only applies to 4.0.4 stock firmware.
Its not a case of flashing siyah etc and the brickbug is gone "forever".
Its only gone if you dont run 4.0.4 stock ever again. So if you have to revert back to a stock rom, pick GB or 4.0.3 for your country etc and you wont have to worry.
Only saying in case you dont know.
you could also flash official 4.1.2, that should not contain the brick bug.

First, your screenshot says Galaxy Nexus, so I'm going to assume you've edited the build.prop to reflect that (this is based on the fact you're running an i777 modem).
Anyway, simply install a JB kernel and flash the rom of your choice. Refer to the OP in this thread for the most current and stable kernel for the i777. You'll need to select the correct kernel for the rom you want to flash - be it Samsung or AOSP. There are over 4,000 comments in that thread, any questions you might have about what to flash will be there.

Yes I recall making changes using build.prop. I have been out of this game and very rusty. Could you please elaborate on selecting the correct kernel for the rom.
If your phone is rooted with CWM recovery you only need install a custom ROM it includes its own kernel. A good JB ROM is the Shostock3 see here and follow the installations instructions:
