I ve just installed the british stock ROM, version MB5, and I cant restore my backed up SMS, neither from Myback Pro nor from Samsung account. Any solution ?
far too little information. what do you mean by "cannot restore"?
Best and most reliable method I have found is use the .xml method in titanium, works across all changes I have tried

Hi everyone,
I hope the question hasn't been asked yet, I searched but I'm not sure about what I found, so I open my topic
I just upgraded to FreeX10 Rom 2.2. I did a backup with backup&restore software, then I get a .sbf file.
My question: is there a way to restore from this sbf file, since the backup&restore app is no longer in this rom? I've heard about Nandroid, but I'm not sure it can uses an external sbf file.
Thanks for your help

i don`t think that`s possible `cause this roms doesn`t have anything from SE yet try this
enter o xRecovery

and
search for restora data only or something
not help, just stuck on boot and thats all but anyway thanks
I managed to flash back to 2.1 and use the original SE backup tool to restore all the data, and then used 3pp backup tool to do the backup.
btw, it seems that SE has OEMed "Sprite Backup", however Sprite Backup cannot recover the SE sbf directly.
hope it helps.

If you used the backup and restore tool Sony Ericsson gives you in 2.1 you won't be able to restore with it in 2.2 because that's Sony Ericsson's app, which is dependant on all the modifications they made to android.
Normally I'd recommend making a back-up with Xrec and restoring only the data portion of it upon upgrading but that seems to have adverse affects when changing android versions so the best you can probably do is make a backup with Titanium or something similar and just use that.
Solution
In case you guys are still having this problem (we had a similar problem with a later Android upgrade to 2.3.3), you can try the following solution:
CAN NOT POST LINKS
Edit: Try googling "HOW TO RESOLVE AND RESTORE SBF FILE AFTER UPGRADING FROM 2.1 TO 2.3 GINGERBREAD?" to get a guy's facebook post. The solution is contained in that post.
Basically, there's a guy who solved this by posting links to the Backup and Restore software:
CAN NOT POST LINKS
CAN NOT POST LINKS
(the version on the Sony Ericsson website wouldn't install for me, but the elita-clan version worked just fine... and AVG reports no virus!)

how did you get back to 2.1 to back up ?
i have the backup and restore app sbf file and all i want to do is restore my contacts and messages. but i cant seem to make it work
The method described above works great. (It uses backup_and_restore_v010935.apk, which is about the same than in stock 2.1 & FreeX10 2.2)
hi
i have a samsung galaxy s i9000
i backed up my memos and messages using titanium backup when i had the 2.2 stock firmware.
i flashed it to 2.3.4 and tryed to restore those two backed ups.
my memos restored fine but i cant restore my messages which i had.
it says that my message is know 2.3.4 and the restored file is 2.2 version
i click on restore and it says it restored it but i cant see anything in my messages.
i dont know if it is a compatibility issue or something else anyone know how i can restore my backed up messages without going back to the 2.2 firmware
thank you all in advance
Hi,
I have a question which might seem too stupid or trivial.
I am currently running CM 7.1.0 ROM on my Legend. I would like to flash ogo2's Gingerbread ROM while restoring all apps and messages/contacts.
Can somebody help me with the procedure of backing up apps and messages, then flashing the new ROM, then restoring all apps/messages
I have no idea for messages since it doesn't care for me.
If you are not going to format/clean your SD card Titanium backup can be helpful for saving applications with data.
The only app you will need to install is Titanium and it restore applications+appsdata for you after flashing.
Make a backup/restore test drive before proceed with flashing.
For keeping your messages there's some apps in market that might help you, haven't tried them though.

Hi, when i did my root and flashed brand new rom, I used 3 things, I used visionary+ temp root then used Titanium Back for all my apps, I used Go SMS Pro to backup all my sms/mms, and for contacts, I used the built in export contacts to .vcf file the good thing about this is if your contacts are stored on phone (not sim) and you have more than one contact for each name + contact pictures associated they fully restore (so long as you leave the pictures alone on SDcard. If you use only sim for contacts, I have found that you can have problems, only storing the default cantact number, no picture association after backup and restore (lost a whole heap of contacts that way).
How ever, since gaining a lot more knowledge, apparantly you can actually use Titanium to backup your contacts and sms/mms as well as your apps using the "backup system data" from the batch mode, although I haven't tried this yet, I cannot confirm that it works.
for contacts you can export them to sd card, as for the sms and other apps use Titanium Backup
Helloo
I am new here and to android, bought my first android phone ever just few days back ,i have read and spent time reading and searching stuff here and gotta say i learned a lot in just few days but there are few things i didnt quite understood...
Q1, i knw the difference between odex and deodex read here but i wana ask, what are the main benefits of deodex ? is it that we can install theams and other stuff like that on stock with it? or smething else ..
Q2: i have tried successfully coderrom and blackhawk and i was able to restore my apps data with titanium backup but i tried cyanogenmod kang rc1 and was not able to restore anything is it not possible or any particular way to restore? i wana restore my call history , messages, contact etc usuallstuff.
Q3: the clockwork backup can it be restored directly above any rom ? if i am running cyanogen or coderrom and want to go back to my old backup just in case should i just restore my old backup directly ? or i have to flash the stock first and then apply backup(this is how i did for now tho)
Q1 - yes, for themes.
Q2 - I restore my backups pretty fine. But not messages and contacts. For contacts I the google account so it automatically restores. For sms I use Go Sms Pro inbuilt function.
And Q 3 yes, any rom.

havnt checked gosms pro tho but as i tried to restore dailer storage data with titanium nothing happend it did said successful tho, nor did contacts , is it because the dailer of cyanogen is different than that of stock and coderrom etc ?
is that dialer a part of touchwiz in stock roms ? if so can it be installed on cyanogenmd ? one more thing i saw cyanogen dont have task manger also tried to restore it but titanium got stuck in it nothing happned so finalyy restarted my phone...
i am back to stock for now still trying to decide wich rom should i go for
Hello,
I'm pretty new to Android and everything it comes with, so I have a few questions to ask, which I couldn't find the answer of in the forums.
I'm having my Galaxy S2 for a while now, and last week I rooted it. But now I want to install a different ROM on it. Sometimes it says there is a 'Full Wipe' required. I've been searching and found some information about it, but I still have some questions:
- If you do a 'Full Wipe', will everything be gone then? (Including contact persons, SMS messages etc.)
- I have Titanium Backup Pro installed, when I make a backup with this, will I be able to restore everything so with the new ROM I have my contact persons and SMS messages back?
Thanks a lot!
Marcel
Edit: Who added the 'epic fail' and 'moron' tag? I can't delete them because I didn't add them...
When you flash a "full-wipe" version of a rom, everything is cleared, just like a full restore, data, messages, contacts...and after that with titanium backup you should be able to restore all your saved data onto the new installed rom.
