Is there any way to root a device in a way that the user only has write permissions on a few files, while all other files in the system folder would still be protected? Specifically, I ONLY want to access build.prop. Alternatively, is there a way to change the contents of a system file without rooting at all? Kind of like flashing a zip but without booting into recovery?
Nope. Just temp root instead of perma root if thats the case.
Hello, first of all, this pertains to the Galaxy Player 4.2. However, I couldn't find a section devoted to that device, so I will post here.
I would like to root my device. I did a lot of googling and research on the topic, and came up with this thread being the agreed upon method.
I read through it and saw the issue with the WiFi not working after the process is finished. I also saw the solution people recommended being to copy the contents of /etc/wifi and paste them back after rooting.
My problem is this. I am new to Android, and I don't know where to find this directory in order to copy the files.
I tried to look using the My Files app, but that appears to only explore the internal SD card. I did some research on the subject, and most people said that it is in the /system folder. I can't find that either. I also found mention that you need root privileges to access that folder. But I don't understand: how can I copy the files before rooting, if I need root privileges to do it?
Maybe I am totally off, but if so please correct me. Where are these files stored?
Thanks!
OK, I have been messing with the Android Terminal Emulator and found the directory where the files are stored. I am trying to figure out how to copy them to the internal SD card now so that I can access them from my laptop. I did some reading and found out that the command for copy is "cp". I tried to use that command to copy the file, but it just tells me "cp: not found". I am not sure what this means, but I assume it means that it is not a valid command. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
This is a guide to show you how to modify android files like framework-res.apk and other files at runtime.
Procedue
1. Copy the file u want to your sdcard
2; using application like root explorer copy the file(s) to the system partition of your android device. i mean in just any folder. but it should be in the system partion of your device.
3. change the permissions to rwx-r-r using the root explorer. meaning the owner can read the file(r) write to the file(w) and execute the file(x).and group can only read the file(r) and others can only read the file (r) hence the sequence rwx-r-r.
4. now move the files to the desired location you wanted. your device might reboot automitically or remain normal.
5. this procedure is safe if followed properly and wont result in a boot loop.
6. failure to change permissions will result in a boot loop ...
8. happy modding. i used the method above to changed my android framework at runtime.

Hello All!
I'm a new member of this forum. I'm from Bangladesh. Recently i bought an Android Tab (Symphony T8Q) which using a MT8389 chipset. I was searching for method to root it and found this thread-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
this tool called Framaroot (v1.61) works for my device and my device rooted. after rebooting, i found supersu in apps and i can apply 'su' command from terminal emulator as well. Then i've checked with root checker app and it's also showing that my device is rooted. But problem is i can't move apps to SD card, i use Android Assistant app and there's no 'Move to SD' button under storage section!
Then i installed ES File explorer and found i can't write system partition as it's read-only. i issue 'chmod' command from terminal, which showing me file system is read-only. currently i need to move apps to SD card, but can't find a way to do it. Also i need to change default bengali font of JB (v4.2) by replacing system's bengali font (Lohit-Bengali) with my choosen font. For this i need a working root method. is there any other tool which can root my device fully? so that i can write system partition, move apps to SD etc. etc.
I need some help Guys! Thanks in Advance.
Me too...!!
I also have the device, but rooting seems to be a problem with it. Sounds like your condition is half success...any progress after that? Please let me know if there is...

So If u really need to root The T8q you have to install Developer Option.apk from play store, enable usb debugging and use motochopper to root it. It's gonna take 4-5 mins so don't get anxious. And if u wanna unroot it just use factory reset. :fingers-crossed:
Hello,
is there any way to root a Moto G5 without a factory reset or deleting the data partition ?
I need access to the encryption key in folder /data/misc/vold in order to recover data from a sd card which isn't being recognized by the phone.
This file is only accessible as root. For this reason I have to root the phone. Is there any way to achieve this ?
All help is appreciated.
Regards,
Holger

Hello , to recover the encryption key , you don't need root access. Because root access allows you to write system file , but without root you can always read the file (you have the read only permission). So you can copy it .
To do this download Root Browser and browse to your file , then long press it , copy it and paste it into the download folder for example.
You can download every root file manager app
Here is the link :

No other ideas anyone?
