S5830i - recovery mode - e: can't mount /sdcard - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I used to have a rooted Ace (5830i) and I wantet to install a different ROM from SD card. Entering Recovery Mode, I was not able to install the ROM. I got the following message:
E: failed to mount SDcard (No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount /Sdcard
Meanwhile I am back to an unrooted system, but the problem is the same.
I've been through the search but nothing helps.I would love to re-partitionate the sdcard, but it also doesn't show up when I'm connected to PC, so I cannot make a backup.
My aim is to have a rooted system and the sdcard mounted correctly.
Any suggestions? -pleeeease-

had the same problem before with mounting /data and I had solved it with reinstalling the firemware...

Did you check your sd card in the computer with a card reader. There may be a problem of sd card itself.

Hi, thanks for the answers. Maybe I was not clear enough. It is the internal sd. At least I think so. I have the same when I remove the external sd.

Use Recuva (search google) to rescue your data from sd card. If you did not copy anything on it minimum 90 percent of recovery is possible.

[Q]E:can't mount /sdcard/

After using Odin, I have this problem
'E:Can't mount /Cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /Cache/recovery/log....'
Then I wipe it. It is success.
But when I choose zip from sdcard
It said E:can't mount /sdcard/
How can I solve it?
I can't boot my gs2 now!
Answer me please
Just try to reflash with odin most of the times this solves the problem.
if not try another firmware (rom)

I can't boot and can't read my internal sd, how can I flash another rom?
Using CWM, you can mount /sdcard.
Check mounts and storage menu.
Also try "Mount Usb storage", connect to pc and check if comp detects your phone.

E:Unable to write to ums lunfile(No such file or directory)
Try flashing one of the rooted kernels using Odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Currentlyhaving the same issue.
This is a kernel issue. It happened to one of the 2.x Siyahkernel beta versions. Simplest solution is to boot the phone and use CWM to flash a different kernel using the tar format (instead of the zip format good for use in recovery mode) (flash a kernel version that's known to be without this problem).
If you can't get past the boot screen, just use odin. But then if you can't get past the boot screen you probably need to flash a ROM over anyway.
I am having the same issue with my internal SDCARD
I cannot access my internal SDCARD. When I insert my external (/removeable) sdcard, recovery sees that as the SDCARD.
I have tried to mount/ dismount/ usmount the internal SDCARD - same error.
THIS is the TMOBILE T989 and we got it yesterday - brand new.
So, I did get it to work from the removeble SDCARD, but I am so use to using the internal SDCARD on my VIBRANT as the primary resource for ROMS, etc, and the external SDCARD as a backup - that it is kinda strange to work now with only one SDCARD (the ext).
It must be something in the recovery that does not see the primary SDCARD...
CAn anyone help, please?
Note that CWM 4 and CWM 5 behave differently with respect to internal and external sd cards (well CWM 4 simply doesn't do external sd card). It'd be your best interest to flash a kernel that comes with a CWM version 4.x.x and for sure internal sdcard will work.
In CWM4, internal sdcard is /sdcard. External card is /emmc. (you can only format external sdcard but not write to it nor mount it.
In CWM5, you can restore nandroid backup from internal sdcard (but you can flash updates from both) . And in the CWM app, default backup location is the external sdcard.
Those who are having problems with CWM 5, flash this version of CWM from your CWM!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/h1yia0gt1sbnbie/cwm-4.0.1.5.zip
You will have cwm 4.

[Q] cwm recovry problem

when i tray to mount from usb in the recovery
i get this message E: unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory)
how can i fix it?
someone plz also when i tray to do mount to sdcard is says
error mounting /sdcard
it works fine from the rom.
My first guess would be that you don't have a microSD card, and you're using a version of CWM recovery which refers to the internal SD card as, wait for it, "internal SD card". If not, what kernel are you using? It could be one which does not support mounting of the internal SD card from CWM recovery.
you probably right so how can i mount from usb? or change it?
i use cf-root karnel
What version of CWM are you using is the question .
jje
cmw v5.0.2.7
Flash with CWM and root kernel not version 5 .
jje
i cant understand you, how can i do mount usb from the recovery
(how can i put files from my computer when i am in recovery mod)?
What are you trying to achieve .
Copy files from PC to Phone or Restore via CWM Recovery or flash a CWM rom .
jje
i am afraid that i will flash a rom and it will fail, and then i will only have access to the recovery.
then i wont be able to transfer the nand backup from my computer to the phone because i cant mount usb in recovery mod.

[Q] Mount problem? Kernel related?

Hi,
I've tried several battery drain fixes on 5 ROMS, both stock and custom, root and unroot.
All had huge battery drain in idle mode (15-25% hour), so I figured the ROM couldn't be the problem.
After searching a bit more I found out that I can't mount my /sdcard/ with CMW or access the USB storage with my pc.
It results in the following errors:
Code:
Cannot mount /sdcard/.
and
Code:
E:Unable to write to ums lunfile(No such file or directory)
. Already formatted the /sdcard/ and removed the ext_sd. No changes.
After this I thought it was kernel related, first tried:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5
and later:
RedPillKernel_Rev1.3
Still no changes. Any suggestions?
Edit: Also tried a different battery, no changes.
You mean you formatted you sd card from settings? Best way to boot in recovery mount and storage, format you sd card, cache, data, reboot. If phone won`t boot, pull battery, put it back, boot in download mode, flash rom with odin

Does the problem sound like a kernel issue to you?

Can I mount phone as a USB device from CWM mode?

I've been playing with custom ROM and whatnot. I put the stock ROM on internal SD but somehow it got wiped off so I don't see it there. I was using Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit - rooting ALLINONE, and something happened so I cannot boot the phone now. I can access CWM mode, but I do not see any ROMs in internal SD, so there is nothing I can re-flash to see if the phone will boot normally. So basically I am stuck in a situation when I can access CWM but I cannot flash a ROM since I have no ROM on internal SD. So my question is, is there a way I can mount the phone as a USB device so that I can copy the ROM zip from my PC into internal SD so I can re-flash a ROM and fix the issue?
Any help is much appreciated!
Flash Stock with Odin and Re-Root.
Go to cwm, mount and storage, mount USB

Thanks, but there is no such option there. What is there, is:
mount /efs
mount /cache
mount /data
mount /preload
mount /sdcard
mount /external_sd

Thanks, since the phone gets stuck at root I cannot use Odin to flash a ROM onto it - I simply cannot get to the point I can see the phone in the PC. This is my gripe precisely - how to make the phone to be seen by the PC (as a USB device or otherwise) so I can copy a ROM onto it and then flash using CWM.

AFAIK it is not possible to mount USB storage from CWM..it is the way samsung had created mount point sin this phone...you have 2 options
1. take your extcard use a card reader or another phone, copy the ROM and then use it
2.Find your original firmware, boot in download mode and flash via Odin

1. I thought so. I have a small micro-sd from my old BB and so checked and I can mount it, so that'd be a solution, only I'd have to go out and buy a new one. I have no plans/intentions to buy a new sd card so that was sup-optimal.
2. Awesome suggestion! Thanks for redcore2k as well - I did not figure from his response that I needed to go into Download mode.
All back to normal now, will be re-rooting shortly. You guys are awesome!

hmmm ur sdcard partition may be corrupted then
do u have mount/extsd option in cwm?
if u have this option try mount extsd if this doesn't help too,u must unfortunately flash stock rom
What format is the card in? Some CWM versions might not like certain formatting. Have you checked on the thread for CWM for your device to see if others have issues mounting their SD card? Are you able to mount the SD card via PC with other readers? Might need to either try a different version of the recovery if available or to reformat the card via PC (make sure you backup stuff to the PC first as it will wipe everything).
