Problems, but not what I expected - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I bought a fairly new unlocked, rooted (but stock) i717 just under a week ago. I'd been looking for the T879 so I'd have something similar to swap back and forth with my S2 but couldn't find one.
Initially, I figured battery life would be fine based on my internet research but I might have issues with speed and coverage. What actually happened is my battery life stinks and I get pretty good speeds in refarmed Chicago with higher upload than the S2 ever got.
Here's where I am for battery life-

I have the same settings on the S2 and get much better battery life with the same use. Any thoughts?

Here's my speed results, fwiw-

Your pic shows that you rebooted your phone 1 hour 47 minutes ago and that will reset all battery stats.

That's when it was fully charged. I don't have a lot of "evidence" as after the first day or two of such behavior I was sticking the sim back in the S2 for work.

Maybe this will help. I've been using it sim-less on wifi only lately but today I tried using it as a regular phone. Stated at 95% and took these at 15%. Ugh. I just ordered a 2700mah Anker; hopefully my battery's the problem...-

Have you tried without LTE yet? - that is known to be hungry.

I've only had it on TMobile; no LTE yet in Chicago and I'm not sure it will work on TMobile LTE anyways.

I came from an S2X and have noticed the same. The screen always hogs battery and I sometimes don't get a day from the charge. I tried playing with a different governor and that helped a bit, but frankly the battery on this isn't as good as my Hercules. Mind you, the old S2X maybe had an extra hour or hour and a half so at least they aren't grossly different.
I might play around with underclocking or other governors, but I don't know how much more one could do. Oh well, I just accept it as it is. I still like this phone, but battery could be a bit better in my opinion. Oh well, just me.
Carry on all

I believe that if in Settings/Wireless&Networks/Mobile Networks/Network Mode you allow it look for LTE then it will energize 2|4 antennas rather than one. I don't know if that is accounted for in "Cell Standby" or not. Turn it off when you don't need the LTE service.
Your stats show what I would expect - your beautiful screen is consuming your battery. Some ROMS are better than others at battery conservation.
So far I am quite happy with "Vanilla". Today I'm at 7 hours, mostly idle with 80% battery left using 35% screen and 30% Cell standby on LTE with Auto brightness and 1 min to display sleep.

Thanks Dan, when I get off the train I'll swap my sim back in and have a look.
Fwiw, I have a good data widget on my home screen and use that when the sim's in it.

When I got to mobile networks all I saw were 2 TMobile's and three AT&T's with no option for LTE or to even view the above.

I don't know for sure and do not have the same ROM as you but there is some way in one of those Mobile Network menus (Not in APN section) to specify 2G only, CDMA, GSM, GSM+HSPA, GSM+HSPA+LTE.

[Q] Battery life on Flyer 3G?

hey guys, I have both the Flyer 3g, and the EVO View TAB. And i noticed the battery life on my Flyer sucks. it will not last half as much as the view. I think the View has a 4000mah battery, does anyone know if its the same for the Flyer 3G?
if not does anyone know if i can maybe buy a replacement battery for my view and solder it on my Flyer(assuming its soldered on)?
I haven't really had a problem with battery life... 8+ hours of work use (you know, youtube, note taking, checking email every 5 minutes...)
I don't know if anyone would bother creating an extended battery for this, since the battery is not removable... not saying it's impossible, but I haven't found anything...

I wish i had 8plus hours. I wonder if its the phone calling thats been draining my battery.
Well ... i use battery monitor all the time. What I found out is that with 3g disabled notetaking plus audio recording consumes an average of 600 mah. With 3g enabled it jumps up to 850. With 3g enabled i get 4h 30m display enabled. Without 3g but still using wifi i get 6 hours of display enabled
Think about getting a battery pack like the treckstor dual port. It can charge the flyer up to 80% battery life.

Battery Drain Issue

Hey Guys,
I am looking for some help. My phone seems to be losing charge at a rate of about 5% an hour when I am at work, tried with 2 different ROMs (NEAT and Wanam stock+rooted) so far and 2 different Modems (LPS and LPG) and it is the same with both. At home, it loses around 1-2% an hour which is much better. The difference I think is the signal level, at home it averages around -85dBm (3G) and an average of around -105dBm (3G) at work which I think causes it to switch between 2G and 3G often and that could be the reason for the battery drain.
Aside from switching my phone to "GSM Only", do you guys have any other suggestions to improve the signal/battery life?
The main culprit on the battery usage screen is Android OS:

Thank you for the suggestion but I would rather not change to an AOKP/AOSP Rom just yet as I only bought the phone 2 weeks ago and want to give the Stock ROM a go.
I have set my Network Mode to GSM only today and so far my battery has dropped 20% in 4 hours :/
It does not look to be ROM or Radio dependent so far as I have tried 2 different versions of both and still, I have drain.

[Q] Help requested poor battery life Razr Maxx

I got my Motorola Razr Maxx a few weeks ago. 1 of the main reasons to buy the phone was the huge battery. A good friend of mine has the Razr Maxx aswell and is getting very, very nice battery life with some small tweaks like disabling wifi.
Unfortunatly my Razr Maxx its battery life isnt that great. I do not use the phone a lot. Only a few SMS / Whatsapp messages a day but even during a night the phone loses 10% battery. So for some my battery use may look "good", I believe for my minimal use its quite bad...
My settings: I am running JB, this release. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289 My friend is running the exact same software. When I installed the software I did a factory reset aswell
G3/G4 disabled (set to only G2)
Wifi off (Only enable it when needed)
GPS disabled
Autosync disabled
BlueTooth disabled
SmartActions, Google Now and other apps wich will eat battery are uninstalled. We have compared the 2 phones but cant really find a difference in settings. I noted some people upload screenshots, please few mine below:
Can anybody point me in the right direction to resolve this problem? The 10% battery loss in 1 night with only G2 enabled shows something is wrong when the phone is not doing anything I think but I don't understand what's the problem.

How did you make custom carrier name?
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I never changed anything about the carrier name. This is default with the software/firmware I used. However: I use the Dutch telecom provider "Hi".
And I understand for most users the 2 days seems quite good but a friend of mine has the same phone, uses it more often and gets his phone at 30% after 4 days and 16 hours.
Keep in mind: we are not browsing websites, facebook or anyting with it. I only use the phone for SMS / WhatsApp and a few minor other things.
And please also mention the 10% drop in 1 night of sleep (6-8hrs). That can't be normal?
I know it's not normal, but from WLD screens I can't notice nothing abnormal, that's the strange thing...

Honestly i don't see any problem at all. Believe me, 4 days and 16 hours, he doesn't do anything with his phone just take few calls.
uhmm did you buy a brand new cellphone or a used one? because if is an used one may be that's the problem the battery doesn't have the same peformance

Thats the problem I'm using the phone even less and get worse battery life.
The phone is brand new, bought it on Amazone.
A few ideas.
- My old sim-card did not fit in the slot. The phone shop used a special tool to modify my sim-card so it does fit. It works perfectly, but could the older simcard cause this problem?
- I suspect my house is located in the center of 2-3 cell towers. Is there any way to monitor the phone switching or searching the cell towers?
Changed the simcard, no results. Same battery use.
I was just wondering, is there any way to disable "Cell Broadcasting"? I can not find the option anywhere. Or is this not available in the firmware I am using?

LG G2 standby experiment

Recently the digitizer started acting up on my vzw G2 so I bought another phone. Without a need for the g2, I just let it sit and noticed that it didn't die very quickly. Once it was around dead I checked the battery and it turns out it had over 100 hours off charger with 2 hours, 2 minutes of SOT. It was on wifi/lte during those 2 sot hours and on wifi only while it was just sitting. That impressed me and I just thought I'd share it.

I recently noticed that putting the G2 in 2G only saves a lot of battery: I can get 5 days with 3h of screen time now! That is with very light use (a bit of browsing/email/calls/gps): gps/bt/wifi normally off, but Autosync gmail/Touchdown/Whatsapp on, at night data is turned off for 8h. I can easily live with 2G for data during a work week, since most places have wifi anyway, and I can manually switch to 3G when faster data connection is needed on the road.
On 3G (I don't have 4G) I can only get 3d standby max., with 3h screen time with the same usage pattern. I had noticed this on my SGS4 before (battery was bad eitehr way), but I was shocked to see it makes such a huge difference on the G2. I also have a Jiayu G4S (Mediatek, except for GPS a good experience) and with that 2G/3G does not make any difference at all.

[Q] Extreme Battery Drain

What in the WHAT!!! My battery life has been up and down since I've had this phone. I sotpped using the GMAIL email app and am using Type mail for all my accounts. That seemed to help out with a small bit of the battery life, I didn't do any specific tests so it could actually have not changed anything at all. I'm having a very strange issue yesterday and today. I'm at my new office, signal strength is very low, but there's still 4G and a tiny bar of service. Additionally, I have WiFi available to connect to so the data shouldn't be straining to use the cell radio. I have my phone plugged into the wall (it's not the fast charger, just the regular Samsung plug) and the battery IS DRAINING!!! How is this even possible, what is chewing up my battery life? I've also seen the phone slow in it's responsiveness lately? I am considering a soft reset to factory, but I don't do anything really crazy with my phone. I email, facebook, text, and have Nova Prime and a weather widget. What is going on with this thing?

Take a look at your battery status. Post a screen shot when you experienced a bad drain again.
Try not to use wifi at all
Did you install one drive during setup. Check the camera upload setting which is turned on by default. So all ur pics upload to cloud on wifi. See if this setting helps

I looked at it yesterday before I posted...and I should have taken a screenshot...but the top two were Cell Standby @ 14% and Android System @ 13%. I will have the opportunity to grab a screenshot later today. In contrast though, this morning in the last 10 minutes since I've left my house I've gone from 95% to 90% and this reply and an uber was the only thing I've done on it since taking it off the charger.

That's not an option. I have a low data plan, 3GB, because it is SIGNIFIGANTLY cheaper and I live in DC where I have free Wi-Fi almost throughout every inch of the city. Plus when at home I have my phone on my network to take advantage of Wi-Fi and corporate resources.

I am regularly seeing Lag free performance with five hour screen on time. I started with less than 2 hours SOT and constant lag.
