We're talking about rolling back to ICS ROM here.

Make a Custom Stock ICS ROM with the new mount point for JB and also the ICS boot.img with it's modules.
If we have a CWM or TWRP recovery JB then we can restore nandroid and fastboot flash the ICS boot.img

So yeah, I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I accidently flashed a CDMA Rom on it and it's supposed to be GSM. Now I can't get signal on it whatever I do.
I tried restoring it with a google signed 4.0.1 but that didn't help. Do I have to unroot or something? Thanks in advance for help..
Been sitting here without a phone for 2 days and it sucks.
Flash a gsm rom, or flash a RUU which is a stock rom

Oh, how do I know which are stockroms? And what's an RUU?
Shouldn't the ROM i downloaded that was googlesigned with 4.1.1 be a stockrom?
Ruu is a stock Rom, flash another Rom but make sure its gsm then you should be fine

So if someone accidentally flashed a CDMA ROM to a phone, flashing a GSM ROM back to the phone will take care of the issue? Is it possible a phone could get STUCK in CDMA mode?

rooting implies a custom recovery. Custom recovery will prevent OTA from being applied.
Restore recovery or run a RUU and you ll get the update eventually

That's why there are tons of guides, as well as a search function here to help you. If you are rooted and s-off, it's assumed you have a custom recovery. If you don't know what that means, then you shouldn't have rooted your phone in the first place. If you have a custom recovery, you cannot take an OTA update. You shouldn't take an OTA anyway if you are rooted, you should only flash roms through recovery.
hey

You can but that would defeat the whole purpose of upgrading. All you would get is the radios and hboot and recovery.
Possible, but doesn't really make sense.

If you're s-off, the latest radio/firmware is posted in the firmware thread in the dev section, just follow the directions there..

If he's just gonna turn around and put a rom on his phone, no real need to flash /system if it's just gonna be wiped.

True, but there's less of a chance of something going wrong/bricking if you don't mess with the RUU. Flashing independent hboots can also cause problems if you get a bad download (very rare but possible)
This is what I have in the development section
Exactly for this purpose

Meaning, get your phone back into a known-good state. Then go back and make your modifications or flash your ROMs making sure that you follow all the steps to do it properly. If you can't find the steps, need to do research to know what those are.

Just be aware that this will wipe your device completely. Think it wipes internal SD as well. Not sure about external...

Yes.
Lockbootlader
Rename ruu as (PH98IMG) put on sd boot to hboot
Runn ruu twice.
Then unlock (fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin)
Flash custom recovery (prefer amonRa)

Hello, Im pretty new when it comes to rooting/custom recoveries on Android. Today I got the notification that AT&T had a software update so naturally I grabbed it. I re-booted the phone but loaded into TWRP and the update didn't take. I researched a little and came to find out that you can't do OTA updates if you're running custom recoveries. My question now is what's the best way for me to get it? Im running the stock rom from HTC, I'm just rooted and have no desire to run any custom roms at this time (Such as Cyanogen or the like). I've looked around and seen a few .12 custom stock roms, but I've also seen the leaked .ruu file. Not sure how to proceed in terms of getting the update installed. All I really want it is the updated firmware along with my current root access. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am pretty noobish when it comes to this.
Best way is if you are stock rooted now is to flash the stock . 12 rooted that scrosler posted. You can flash without wiping if you want

Thanks for your help, I'll grab that. Just wasn't sure if there was a difference or not...will flashing with a program like ROM manager not wipe the phone?
Just flash from recovery. It doesn't wipe anything

No it's not hard at all, but as I said I'm not looking for any custom roms..simply wanted to remain stock with the latest firmware upgrade. Not sure if the the leaked .ruu that came out a week or so ago would accomplish this or not.

So the only way to do this is a new Rom? I located the update .zip in twrpd but it hangs on install. Is there any way to simply run the update?

Even though I have the update file already have the update zip? Sorry, I'm incredibly new to android and don't really know how the ota updates function. I just hate to flash a whole Rom for a 20 mb update.

why? the space it will take up on the phone will be the same.
Update OTA's aren't structured like rom's that are packaged for custom recoveries.
Update OTA's also check to make sure the necessary parts are already on the phone so they only update the changed files. If you have altered your device in any way, the OTA will fail. This is a good thing. Less support calls from users whose updates fail.
