Get out!? When I looked up, there was this orange ball!
I think he's talking about color banding
Flickering grey lines I had it with PA. Noticeable on Facebook app. No such problem on cm.
If colour banding is what it's called.. That's it
I tried force GPU rendering and Hw overlays.. No Bacon.
Staying with cm.

Try turning the device off and leaving it for a few hours, if the lines aren't gone, bring it back to your carrier or contact Sammy support...

My phone and power button are currently red and green....with the middle 3 buttons white.
I've seen pics / videos online where all 5 buttons are either white or blue. How can I do this? Is there a guide anywhere or a thread on this?
I've searched but I'm unable to find it.

Hi guys,
Can please somebody test for me if have similar issue as me...
I noticed that the grey on SGS2 suffers a lot in quality... more visible on reduced light.
I did create a file in Photoshop with fixed grey value.. as you can see from the screenshot attached sgs2 goes more magenta instead of grey+ plus there is a lot of noise too around this value R 100 G 100 B 100
As far as i know the grey is the most difficult color to display because needs to use all 3 leds in the same time...
Anyhow pls let me know if u also have distorted results as me!
Thank you
Yeah, my icons definitely look darker and has a redder tint to them side by side with the SGS. I've been informed that it has to do with Gingerbread as well, about how Gingerbread hosed up the colors.
I have exactly the same problem. All greys look pink / magenta. I am right now trying to replace my unit because of it.

Why replace it? It's not a fault with the phone. Your next unit will be exactly the same.

the file test it is in a zip file, you need winzip or winrar to extract the file, after that you can copy to your device and view it...
Also, i made the test on another sgs2 device and they grey is as is supposed to be...
Do we think is a software or hardware problem this is the question?

I hate to say it but I suspect it's a hardware fault with some individual panels, although whether Samsung would view it as a fault is another matter. These screens are incredibly difficult to make and almost impossible to make every one identically, so it's inevitable some will be less than perfect even if that imperfection is only noticeable in certain circumstances (a grey screen in this case). There is another thread on here with someone having a yellowish hue line down the left of their screen when the screen is a certain colour -- another example of a similar issue.
Found it. Check the post out.

if that is the case, a lot of devices will go back... first sgs software was horrible, now sgs2 hardware? damn it samgung u`ve done it again!
Yep, nothing wrong with mine either using that greyscale test image.
Imagine its a bad batch of SGS2's out there somewhere.

For everyone experiencing the yellow tint issue who either don't want to or can't service their handset for whatever reason, try this as a temporary measure. Works for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yuki.ochi.privacyfilter.free
The yellow tint doesn't bother me enough to want to send it in but the tint sometimes becomes distracting enough to irritate me. Especially so when reading off the browser or an ebook reader. This app allows me to apply a filter to the screen and I've managed to adjust the color to a point where the tint becomes barely visible. The link is to the free version but there's an ad free version as well. Just play with the settings and see what works for you. I'd expect everyone experiencing the issue to require different settings to mask the imperfections.
Hope this helps some of you out there.

The .73 firmware should fix the screen color temperature issue. They made it less warm in terms of color.
Yup. I saw your mention on the other thread but I'm already on. 73 and it's still yellow. Good to know that Sony's taking measures though.

Yeah, I just updated mine to .73 too, color still looks the same. Don't see a difference in temp. It was from Asia's firmware note. Anyone tried the SG? I'm on US firmware, so nothing from here. I do see a much better response on the buttons though. Mine had a little lag before, but now it's instant.

So, I think you guys are much more lucky than me. I am in Viet Nam, and I bought XPS in Hong Kong. Now I saw yellow tints but can't go to Hong Kong to change it nor I think Sony Viet Nam would repair it for me. That's bored of such a big company like Sony. It's their fault of manufacture and lot of people have the same issue, they should replace or repair it with global warranty not only specific region though

Hi. I think screen shots won't be necessary as my settings are pretty straightforward. Under "color", I set all 3 bars close to the left so I get a dark gray. For "alpha", my bar is on the left - somewhere between a third or a quarter of the way. FYI, I keep the filter on all the time. My (system) screen brightness is set to about 77 when I'm outdoors.
Do play around with the levels till you're satisfied though. I don't think a one-size-fits-all configuration is possible.

Alright I found a fix for the Black Crush Problem.
Note these steps are just how I stumbled upon the fix. I'm not guaranteeing it would fix your Black crush but it fixed mine. I listed everything I did before it was fixed.
This is for you to Re-Enact It's not a guarantee.
WHAT IS BLACK CRUSH?
Watch this video for an example:Click Me
Explanation: It's when our phone can not display the black levels correctly resulting in clipping where there would be shadows, grey areas, dark areas, etc.
To Test if You Have Black Crush/Clipping
Watch This Video:Click Me To Watch
The most notable part if you have Black crush begins at 0:11
If there's no Black Crush/Clipping you're straight. If not try this out then test it again afterwards.
I know YouTube isn't what causes the black crush. I'm just listing what I had expereinced so you may re-enact it and hopefully reach the same solution I have.
On CMW Recovery Update your rom to
"[Rom]~[UCLF5]~TEAM PERFECTION'S ICS OBJECTION|06/28|SGSIII|S Voice|Fast|Spiced UP RC1"
Click Me
Now Follow the Instruction to Update to that rom by every detail.
Update to RC1 Non Flash after Successfully Booting the rom.
Youtube should be broken (At least mine was) Uninstall with Titanium Back-up
Uninstall Launcher with Titanium back up
Boot into CMW Recovery and clear Dalvick Cache and Fix permissions
Reboot
Re-install Youtube
When You reboot It should say "Optimizing Android 1/140" and it'll boot up normally.
After that black crush should be fixed. Test it with YouTube or any of your Pictures that had Black Crush on it before.

Nahhh, my youtube was just broken I just included every detail that I could so that you guys could re-enact my actions. I re-installed youtube right after.
So, I've noticed I even get major distortion in the black borders of some trailers like these two from Iron Man 2:

It's like there's some crazy static in the borders. Is everyone experiencing this, or did I just get a particularly bad one?

Like I said, I added it into the instructions because it's what I experienced. I know that the Youtube app does nothing with the Black crush and it is merely the phone that cannot process / display the black levels correctly Lol.
Black Crush/Clipping
Black crush/clipping can not be fixed. No one is even sure what causes the issue (is it software or hardware?), Samsung denies it even exists, the level of black crush/clipping varies on different Galaxy Notes, and there are some people who claim their Notes are perfect and show no signs of black crush/clipping at all. All Devs that were working on this Issue have given up, the closest thing to a fix they could come up with was moving the clipping point from between 0/1 to between 6/7 on ICS.

Even more likely just Sony's notorious quality control issue.
Wait! They calibrates each single mark 3 display individually isn't it? .
I really think this is just effect of their personal screen calibration of each unit.
