[Q] Xperia U vs Desire HD - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all,i am sorry if i messed up the subforum, but i'm in a rush so i have to ask. Which one would you preffer and why? I know that XU has dualcore and its an 2012 phone, but DHD has much more storage,x2 of the ram that XU has, bigger screen..
Suggestions?
NOTE: Gaming doesnt matter,im not a huge fan of it.

DHD.Already has bugfree android 4.2, does not lag at all, and excels in the music bit with Cyanogen. It's loud and has good quality. Not to mention you have 400MB ram free at boot, and 690 total.Meanwhile the XU has just 360MB or so, and that's not enough even on stock. The screen quality is superb, and so is the camera.

i am not so sure with the price.. but gsmarena said that it is a little bit expensive than sola.. so I guess close, if not, a little bit more than 300 usd..
i am interested on upgrading but i am just curious if it is really worth it.. is the dual core really a big difference in terms of performance or not, is the battery life really better even if it now has a bigger screen than the active... etc... all of this base on specs...
thanks...

No rom can beat JB regarding smoothness. I tried both PAC and Cyanogen, both are great in that regard, but i think PAC is a bit better due to the presence of AOKP and a better camera.
I wouldnt recommend 4.0 custom rom, especially with Aroma installer. I'm gonna say it blunt, as i think it : all those are frankeinstein monsters built from parts badly put together, there is no graphical cohesion or harmony. Even the Sony stock roms now get elements from other phones, and overall, look really, really amateurish.

I totally disagree. While the JB may be smooth without any apps installed and some tweaking, ICS allows you to run a plethora of apps like skype and facebook without becoming a lagging monster.
The majority of custom ICS roms out there are not pretty, but OptiMax 2, JellySandwich 7.4 are raising the bar. I also have really high hopes for Iced Bean 3.
For really smooth go for ForsakenGB rom 3! Also the best experience I have had gaming wise
Between Iced bean 2.1 and Optimax 2.0 ?
still jj hybrid for me.

I would say superleggra v3. I try all roms and always end up using it. Superb battery life and smoothness. Iced bin is also nice except having some small problem.

Are you implying that 4.1 can become a lagging monster ? Because i never saw that with my eyes.
On the other hand, yeah, 4.0 is stable. Stable in sluggishy, but stable. Unless you have friends and many texts : then, you're screwed.

I am not implying, I am saying that it can become a lagging monster. I have experienced it myself. It only takes a few large apps to overload 4.1.

Well. I have 140 apps on my phone. 40 of them are games. I use swap and link2sd to make space. I use my rom with those apps and without swap enabled when i paly a game like subway surfers. It runs smoothly and when i hit home i have my launcehr full of widgets. Then with subway surfer in memory i launch Nfs most wanted and i play it also with minimal lag. My mum texts me on whats app that moment so i realise whats app didnt get killed by those two games. So i can say i have superb multitasking in genereal on ics not saying only in my rom but my rom improowes things... i tryed fxp145 witch is their most stable relese. It was smooth. i agree but it was smooth until i installed my 140 apps. I enabled swap(on ics i told about i didnt used swap) so i enabled it cuz it wass laggy and apps were starting very slow. So i rebooted wit swap and launched subway surfers. It was smooth. I liked this. but after 1 min playing it started laging I pressed home. and i had no launcher. It was killed(god damn it this is suposed to be cm10) I realy disliked that. anyway then i ensured subway surf is in memory cached and i launched nfs most wanted. I started playign and it was lagging a lot then told my mum to whats app me. I receved it and nfs most wanted killed itself and it returned me to home automatically and again my launcher was killd. So is jb good - yes but not for our xperias. We dont have any drivers for it. So thats why.

I was like "how much does it take, seriously ?", and then Mr Tapa made his post. 140 apps, are you godamn ****ing serious ?
Honestly, 140 is not much. It may seem for people who only knew smartphones with so little internal storage but believe once you enter the tablet or the more recent smartphones, 8 gb isn't even enough !

That would be thinking we have an endless need for apps and stuff only limited by storage. Sorry dude, but this isn't even remotely intelligent. 140 apps, not much ? I'm not even sure the uncompressible time of loading all of them can fit during a few days of a busy man.
Sorry to say guyz, but when you answer something like "4.1 can be a laggy monster", have the reflex to end up your sentence : "when i install my 140 applications, wich is not much", so that some readers can quickly detect they're just not talking about the damn same thing.
So, to me : i have 12 dowloaded applications, never saw 4.1 get laggy whatsoever. But i communicate a lot with texts, and as soon as i reach 30 of them on internal memory, all the 4.0 i've tested become increasingly sluggy, to a point where opening my contacts app takes up to 5 seconds.

ICS or JB good for games?

Hello guys, I wonder if there is any custom rom for Xperia Neo V, which run the games without any lag, or at least with minimum of lags.
sorry for bad english!

I haven't really tested much but as far as I know it goes like GB(Codename 9, X-GAMER) > JB(CM10, AOKP) > ICS
Imo ICS is the least optimised for gaming, but bear in mind that I haven't really done any real benchmarks so I might be wrong on this, someone should back me up first
of course GB i better for gaming but i dont have mush problem with ICS:good:
GB are the best for gaming man
u can try codename he's fast n
Stable
Of course GB because is lighter than ICS
For all the fools answers (not eveyone)
He asked ICS AND JELLY BEAN! NO GINGERBREAD.
I really dont know which one is fastest but bear in mind that JB needs more ram, and has many bugs.
it depends...
well of course it depends on what kind of games are you playing...as guys/girls said JB uses more ram and its still under development, but if you have nice tuned ics its definetely better...i sugest you to take a day off for your phone and just try roms...it cant hurt and you will find the rom that suits you best
gb, ics generates as many compatibility problems or close by themselves.
apart gives you more free RAM
there are many ICS custom roms that good for games

CM9 , i.e. ICS and Jelly sandwich are pretty good RAMwise, and therefore good for playing games.
Moreover if you want a lag free gaming, close all background running apps before running games, as 512 MB is never enough RAM for gaming.
check it out

[Q] Thiking of getting an Xperia Sola for cheap. Worth it?

Ok so, as the title implies I'm thinking of getting an Xperia Sola on the cheapside (135€) almost brand new. However I do have a few questions:
1. Would you say the phone is worth the price?
2. Do you think it is a good phone?
3. I mostly use my phone for multitasking and gaming sometimes, so does it fit the bill? The 512RAM thing scares me, my Galaxy W said it had 512MB but it had like, 378MB.
4. How is custom rom development for the phone?
Cheers and thanks in advance
1. It's definitely worth its price, even when there is few cons.
2. More Yes than No, It has interesting design, a technology wich is available only for this phone only, called floating touch needs to be improved tho, but It's quite usable in browser. Built quality is not the best, could be better... after a while u will notice some squeaks and other noises it is fixable.
3. That's because there is usable RAM and non usable, can t really explain where the unusable goes, It has to function somewhere else in phone...available RAM is 368. It's enough if u stick with GB android version on ICS takes allmost 90% when no apps are working. Don t recommend to buy one if u are willing to update it to ICS... it would be a huge disaster!
4. I have seen some of the costum versions, for gaming as well, haven't tried yet, i am sticking with the stock one, for battery saving.

You can update to ics, its working flawlessly and even better im on jellybean for last month without hiccups. Nice phone good price...overall im satisfied. Dont listen about ics bugs, use custom kernel for better battery, performance is awesome. The mussing ram is allocated to gpu, mali eats quite a lot of ram.

can you recommend themer's theme that at least a bit more operable for everyday use, for my mini pro?
btw, what is your custom rom? does it have unusual theme? i like MIUI, but still didn't get the best ROM performance for my taste.
Worked fine on my old HTC Desire S with 768MB of RAM. I think it will work fine on your newer phone with 1GB of RAM.

* I didn't try Themer yet, but I am sure that it is Amazing
as my Ace plus resolution is : 320 x 480 pixels which is not supported by themer yet
but I applied some of MyColorScreen themes manually, some were great some were soo laggy
* I use Inspiration ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952839
It was a great improvement for me over the original one in Visual Style and Performance
Not sure if the deference is comparable to other devices' ROMs or not

well I have a Gsmart Roma R2, which with 480*800 resolution just passes the bar of support. It has 1GB of RAM and Themer works solidly even with more complex themes. I have not seen lags in the system (unless some game like Temple Run 2 was still on in the background)

Well, if you take into account how much RAM is actually reserved by the system (which varies phone to phone depending on add-on UIs, android versions and such), how much is taken by the apps and services running in the background (like sync account, weather, news, mail, facebook, twitter,... you get the drift). It might not be enough at all... Plus you have to take widgets into account. The more complex and the bigger amount of them running constantly takes up some memory, too.
I have noticed that Themer always takes about 40MB on my phone and that is not very light weight. I am comparing it to the last phone I had that was an entry level with amazing 256 MB of RAM so 40MB consumption would have been a killer for it. The launchers I used on it were maybe a bit less flexible when it came to theming (since I am a greedy guy and would not pay for the pro versions;o]]]) but they were still recommended by mycolorscreen for some of the builds and, if I remember correctly, they took somewhere between 11 and 17MB only.
That said, even if I have all connections (besides radio of course) turned off, I sometimes experience a slight lag with 1GB RAM. Though the phone is definitely not a high end wonder machine so I did not have huge expectations of it. The fact that it features vanilla android with few apps pre-installed and no UI modifications probably adds to the speed it runs at and that keeps me well satisfied.
So, gaming or no gaming, in the end it all comes down to the usage of the phone. If you do not play but you use many different apps on your phone (especialy if they have a background service using your internet connection), 1GB may still be not enough for you...
