Will allowing Ubuntu 12.04 to do a system update break the adb install?
I only ask because sometime in the past I allowed an update on an older version of Ubuntu and it did break one of the installs of adb. But I think it was an install of adb via google and source build.
Thanks for the info and advice
Should be fine.. Update to 13 could be problematic.. Ubuntu is not so hot on full os update..
Most backup and do a fresh install of the new os

I have installed ADB, MTP, and the Google USB Driver. I'm currently running Android 3.2.1 rooted. I'm attempting to install a custom signed ROM in recovery. I'm getting a Status 7 error which according to the AIO 5.3 --
"-- you haven't installed recovery adb driver - check device manager "
How do I install the recovery drivers in Windows 7?
After the 2nd attempt at flashing the update/upgrade went thru successfully. I'm not sure what the problem was but it seems to have sorted itself out. Thanks to Condi for the great work!

Cat,
What is the process of re-installing for Recovery? Is it MTP or the Google Driver that need to be installed again?
Thanks!

Recovery Mode only requires the Android Composite ADB Interface drivers. MTP serves no function while the tablet is in Recovery Mode. For install/reinstall instructions, read BluechipJ's Automated ADB Driver Installer for Sony Tablet S and P post and be sure to watch his video, that's where he describe how to manually install the drivers when they fail to install automatically.
Right now my phone is stuck in recovery with no ROM installed, so I tried to adb sideload one.
Whenever I try to do anything with adb, my phone does not register at all with my computer under adb devices.
Is there any way someone could help?

Also, let us know the OS you are using.. Win 8 x64 is a tricky BS.. sometimes the drivers work, some times they don't...
for my recovery, I have TWRP 2.5.0.0
I'll check my drivers just in case.
For my computer OS, I have windows 7 x64
I'm on Windows 7 and had the same problem the other night when I needed to sideload a rom, it just would not find my device. Even though I had previously flashed kernels without any issues.
I ended up removing the drivers, re-installing them using Hassoons toolkit and rebooting both PC and phone. It will work, just can be a bit finnicky. I used his toolkit to sideload a rom through twrp.

I hope you are giving enough time for the device to be recognized.
BTW TWRP has been updated to 2.6
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Alright, i had the system update downloaded and it went to twrp. I realized this wouldn't work. So i was going to sideload the update but for some reason ADB doesn't see my watch in sideload mode. Is this a driver thing or something else?
I had trouble with that in win 8.1. I just uninstalled drives while in twrp. Then reinstall should fix u up.

Hello guys. So I installed CM 12.1 (beta) and did a factory reset after the installation. After that I realised that my tablet is bootlooping and that the rom is not working. How can I now upload a new rom on my tablet to flash it ? I still have safestap, but I have flashed the CM12.1 in the stock slot. Is my device bricked ? Can It be fixed ?
I also tried pushing the files using adb, but when I click adb sideload in Safestap it loades forever and nothing happens. Please help me out guys !
CM12.1 requires an unlocked bootloader, if you use Safestrap you probably don't have an unlocked bootloader.
Which version of Safestrap do you use and which Fire OS is on your HDX? If you are still able to enter Safestrap download a Safestrap compatible ROM e.g. Nexus or CM11, depending on your Safestrap version!
Note that you can NOT use Safestrap v4 on devices running Fire OS 3.x, Safestrap v4 requires Fire OS 4.5.2 rooted.
And note that you can not use ROMs made for Safestrap v4 in Safestrap v3.x (and vice versa)! ROMs must be compatible, read the compatibility notes carefully! If in doubt as first, i.e. before you brick your HDX.
I hope you did a backup of your Fire OS before flashing CM12.1 in the stock slot?
I have Safestap V4. I was on Fire OS 4.5.2 but it is long gone. I don't have any backups. Am I bricked ?
You said you'd still have Safestrap, so you can still enter Safestrap?
Then download either CM11 for Safestrap v4 or Nexus for Safestrap v4, and install them in Safestrap. Read the Installation notes in either thread carefully.
Yes I have Safesteap. I was on CM11 before trying CM12. But how can I copy the rom on the device now ? As I said ADB Sideload doesn't seem to work, neither does mounting USB storage. Any other ways to access the internal storage of the device ?
Probably not without a working system. Do you use Windows? Does the HDX show up in device manager at all if connected via USB?
Yes I use WIndows 10 and yes the HDX shows up like this - http://i.gyazo.com/0ef7744fcdc103781ada2488453a5089.png
I have installed many drivers, but I may be missing some. Can you tell me which drivers I need ?
Also I use Safestap 4.01 (TWRP 2.7.1.0) if it does matter.
Did you try to click "Update Driver" and let Windows search do the work? I'm not sure why it says "There are no compatible drivers for this device.", could be a Windows 10 issue, do you have access to a Windows 7 PC? The HDX is correctly identified as Kindle Fire HDX, so it should be "adb-able" after driver installation.
Yes I tried to click update driver, but it says that a driver was not found. On my laptop (Windows 8.1) it gives me this http://i.gyazo.com/1aa7c931084a604c48f6f71648cc9a32.png
And when I click ADB Sideload in Safestrap the log on the HDX gives me ''Starting ADB sideload feature'' and nothing happens. When I try ''adb devices'' it doesn't find any.
nvm
any other ideas ? Is my tablet fixable ?
Short answer: NO
To have any hope of recovery you must get 'native' adb working. adb does not work within Safestrap v4. Windows is very picky about drivers; Win10 adds to that complexity. Suggest finding a friend with linux or an older version of Windows. If you get a response to 'adb devices' there is a remote chance your device can be saved.
So adb would not work in safestrap v4 ? Where can I get it working then ?
Also which drivers should I install ?
I was just going to order a new motherboard for my HDX, when I decided to try if adb would work with Mac OS........ AND IT DID ! Pushed a new, rom, installed and my tablet is good as new Thanks for the help guys !
Great you got it working, enjoy your revived HDX.
Bit weird it doesn't work with Windows drivers. Did you try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59268023&postcount=8 these drivers? Would be interesting to know whether they'd worked, as they solve device connection issues regarding the bootloader unlock procedure.
I will try them and tell you if they work for me !
So I was trying CM12 and it flashed the crappy Cyanogen Recovery over TWRP. I was trying to flash it again through Flashify and other similar apps but it just won't work. I'm now trying to flash TWRP again through Fastboot...but i can't get to install the proper drivers for Windows 10. I tried flashboot drivers and many others I've found online with no success.
How can I get my tablet recognized by Windows 10 ?
Thanks !

I believe you have to disable driver signing in Windows 10.

Not good enough solution.
We want drivers test signed so we can use them without exposing our production machine to a huge security risk.
Therefore, Test sign procedure or alredy signed Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Family is desirable as a proper solution here.
