[Q] Mirroring of Stock ROM - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi all,
I've a XT910 with this rooted android version : Jelly Bean OTA 982.124.14.XT910.Retail.en.EU. Now I want to do a copy of the stock rom and I want to install the copy in the Slot Rom 1 with Safestrap. Can I do it with Backup/Restore option in Safestrap ? Can someone tell me the right steps ? If I can't do that with Safestrap, is there another way ? Thanks for any reply.
Cheers
Stefano.

why do you want to do that? keep your stock ROM as your backup if anything happens when installing other ROMs on other slot.
anyway, i recommend you to install Boot Menu Manager . its more easier to use. you can backup your system and data in the recovery, and you can restore it on other slot. you can also do this on safestrap.

R: [Q] Mirroring of Stock ROM
I want to do that because I want to modify my stock rom. I've tryed to restore my stock rom in slot 1, but it didn't work. I've tryed also to copy system partition and I tryed to build a custom rom with the extracted system... But it didn't work either. In the second way, after few minutes it appeared the android logo with a warning. Sorry for my english....thx in advice

it should work. I did the same thing. I made a backup of my stock 4.1.2 and then re-created rom slot 1 and restored the backup i just made of my stock to that I could modifiy it to my liking with out having to worry about messing up my safeside stock.
Did your backup of stock have Voodoo OTA protected SU. If it did try disabling voodoo su protection and then make a backup. Otherwise when you restore you end up with just a black screen sometimes. also delete rom slot 1 and re-receate it then install backup.

R: [Q] Mirroring of Stock ROM
What did you use to backup? Safestrap or BMM? Did you backup only system partition or system/data partition?

Ok, I found the problem. The size of my system partition ( done by SafeStrap ) is 640 MB. However the backup of my system stock partition is 711 MB. Safestrap doesn't warn me about the overflow. How can I shrink the system backup ? Is there a way to improve the size of system partiotion ?

[Q] Titanium Backup and Layar, CarHome , LG App Advisor...

Hi!
I want to get rid off some apks (see title) with titanium backup.
The problem is, that those apks are listed as service, so titanium backup only backups data and not the app itself. So there is no way to restore?
Is there a way to restore these pre- installed apps after deletion (maybe I change my mind ).
TIA,
Caveman
I'm sure Layar is avalible on the market, so is the CarHome. LG App advisor is crap so you can forget about it.
Copy the apk from /system/app. You can do this by mounting the system partition as read and write, then cp the apks to your sd card
So there is nothing other than the apk?
Why does titanium backup delete these apks without backing them up?
Thank you,
Caveman
By the way, I haven't tried this yet with a ROM that hasn't been deodexed. Backup both (.apk & .odex) just to be sure if you're in a stock rom.
Regarding titanium backup, I have no idea. I backed something up and uninstalled. When I tried to restore, it won't. The option is grayed out
EDIT: Just in case --> http://theandroidsite.com/2009/11/2...and-paid-android-applications-for-root-users/
Ok, thanks.
BTW: First attempt to restore stock rom (if I saw that titanium backup did not backup LG's "services" it was too late ) went bad (the phone stayed in "emergency mode")- that just increased my heart rate . The second attempt (without LG's modem drivers) went well
Thank you all!
Good luck with the stock ROM restoration Btw, I just want to suggest that you don't use KDZ flasher to restore to stock firmware. If you already have a custom recovery installed, just flash another ROM over the one you want to replace.

How to prepare the original LG kdz to be flashed with custom recovery (I just installed it)?
TIA,

What do you mean? If you mean flashing the KDZ from the custom recovery, I don't think you can.
Here's a handy list of custom ROMs we have in the site (at least for the O1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932158
It sounded like you could flash stock rom with custom recovery...
I noticed that there are a lot of custom roms available
So, thank you again,
Caveman
Sorry about that. How I talk/write can be confusing at times xD But yes, you can install the stock ROM with custom recovery, just not the .kdz file. From that KDZ file you can create a zip to flash using custom recovery.
I think the main reason why people revert to stock firmware (ROM + stock recovery) is because they have to take it to a service center and they still have their warranty. Or if they badly need the factory stuff xD

[Q] About installing the 420MB Userdata Patch

Hey Guys,
my Father owns a Xperia Neo with Android 2.3.4 (Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.69) installed. He's running out of memory on the /data partition.
I've read about the 380->420MB patch, but before I'll brick the device by doing something stupid I just wanted to ask if this installation process would work:
Root the device with latest flashtool
Install CWM with the apk from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509
Make a Nandroid Backup
Install the patch from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449917
Restore the Nandroid Backup
Reboot
I wanted to do it like that, because I didn't find a kernel for .96 firmware and I dont want to change the ROM because besides the few MBs left on /data my Father is fine with the device as it is.
So the main question left is: Does it work like that?
Thanks in advance

If you restore the backup you made before flashing then you will lose whatever you have flashed.....
You make the backup in case the flashing process breaks your phone or you decide that you do want it anymore...
Sorry I forgot to write that I wanted to do an advanced restore and select the data partition as described in the patch's installation instructions.

[Q] Nandroid backup of Gingerbread on Samsung Galaxy Proclaim

Hey Everyone. Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot, but I've watched the "noob" video, and I couldn't find anything about my phone on here. So, I've become interested in custom roms, and I'm thinking about learning how to make some. I currently own a Galaxy Proclaim, and I havent been able to create a nandroid backup. I've successfully set up the adb on my Lubuntu Netbook, and I ran adb backup, and apparently that only works for ICS. So, that leaves me with a few questions. How do I make a nandroid backup of gingerbread? What does ROM Manager, from googleplay, back up? And Is there a way I could make a backup manually? I know how to backup the files on my system, but how would I backup the bootloader and everything else? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just curious and determined to make a custom ICS rom, or compile a ROM from source, but I'm afraid to try anything because I don't want to brick my phone.
Buddy do it via cwm.download compatible cwm for ur cell to sd card to root and go stock recovery m0d install zip from sd card and select cwm then select backup restore and in that option just select backup and wait until its done.u need root for flashing cwm in recovery.

Rom:JellyBlast v3.0.4

my first custom kernel & rom
waiting 4 Nemisis One

Clockwork Manager doesn't support my phone. The phones model number is SCH-S720C. I've tried other backup apps and they back up my apps/media just fine, but I need a full nandroid backup in case I mess up the boot loader or flash the wrong .pit file. I'm not taking any huge risks this time since I bricked my last one. Is there anyway I could make a backup manually? I currently run Lubuntu 12.10, and I've compiled adb and it works right on my computer.
Bump

[Q] Dual Boot - ROM backup

I'm using GoogyMax (have also used Siyah) and running Purelook HD Rom along with Slimbean as 2nd ROM. Right now I have my phone exactly how I like it but I also like trying new versions. It gets confusing doing Nandroid in each ROM and running backups from both using TB (Titanium) or MBR (My Backup Root) and recently I managed to stuff things up and had to rebuild from scratch.
Is there a way to do a Nandroid and get the entire package backed up? I am presuming in Slimbean backup I get only that ROM (it's around 1.1GB) and the same for Purelook (it's around 2.17GB) It would be good if I could simply boot to recovery and run one Restore and be back to my full setup.
Or am I mistaken in the idea Purelook, based on 4.1.2 stock, would be 2 times the size of Slimbean?
Shouldn't nandroid in CWM backup both Roms as the second is a kind of subset of the first regarding folder structure?

No, 2nd ROM is:
/sdcard/.secondrom
This is why it's best to use Siyah recovery to manage nandroid backups for 2nd ROM. However, since /sdcard/.secondrom should contain all the ROM stuff (including data) IIRC, shouldn't you just be able to rename that to /sdcard/.secondrom_OLD and reformat a new /sdcard/.secondrom?
Thanks for the replies.
I am unable to locate the /secondrom using ES File Explorer. Going to / and searching for 'secondrom' gives me no result. secondrom is deinitely there though - I just booted into it. Either it's a setting in ES that I need to change so I can see it (I'm using ES File in the 1st ROM) or I am not understanding how the folder set up works with dual boot. (or possibly, at all )
I guess, unless there is something more specific to find on here, I will have to backup everything then try a restore of each nandroid and see what it gives me.
Its .secondrom, meaning hidden file. Have you enabled hidden files?
On 4.1, /sdcard is /data/media but on 4.2, its /data/media/0 so you'll need to use root explorer permissions to browse and check /data/media if you're on 4.2 as it may appear "missing" as per link in my signature

[Q] best practise after rooting

Hi,
i'm just finished rooting my device (HDX 7, 64GB), installed Safestrap, created a backup from the recovery, created a new rom-slot, restored the backup to the new rom-slot, and now .. ?
I want to stay with the amazon-rom, not the gapps-rom.
would it be better to make modifikations to stock rom slot (i have a backup, so hey ?!) or would you work on the rom-slot-1 copy leaving the stock rom slot untouched ?
If the latter, what would you suggest for a data-patition-size for the daily-use rom-copy? 16G?
thanks for reading,
macfly.

Always do all your modifications to your slot. Only modification I would do to stock at all would be to run the OTA blocker . Personally when I set up my slot I increased my cache partition by a hundred megabytes then used up all available or close as possible for my data partition and I have not had any problems with any apps games or downloads installing .. Now the Rom partition or system partition is not adjustable and sometimes can become too large to install or modify any system applications you might want to install such as gapps . Personally I use titanium back up to watch my system partition (rom size) and uninstall a few of their system applications that I did not use to make room .
