If you think you have installed CWM perfectly but its not starting in CWM mode, do following...
Check if CWM is installed perfectly and can be started with ROM Manager. Install ROM Manager and start ROM Manager and select Reboot to Recovery. If this time it starts in reboots in recovery mode, that means CWM is installed perfectly. If CWM mode does not start here, you might have not yet installed it properly.
Switch off phone, now press Volume Up and Home Key together (KEEP THEM PRESSING) and now press Power for 3 seconds and leave but don't release other two buttons. When you see LG logo release other two buttons. Now it should start in CWM mode.
WARNING: Dont press with Volume Down, otherwise you will BLANK the phone (HARD RESET)
thank you!
i will try it imideatley!
EDIT: i tried it with Rom Manager and it worked (it bootet into CWM)
Thanks!

Hi Folks,
I have a stock .587 firmware with locked BL.
I have done some tweaks on it listed below:
- New adreno libs.
- Walkman port V6 by ThilinaC
- removed bloatwares manually and freezed some others.
- JB SystemUI changes by ThilinaC
- adrenaline boost, etc.
I was learning on decompiling and recompiling the apk's. So I picked up the simplest one. i.e. enabling on screen buttons in framework-res.apk.
I made change into in one of the xml and I successfully rebuilt the apk. and flashed it using root explorer. But it gave bootloops.
I tried starting CWM recovery using volume down button at the Sony logo as usual. But it didnt start. I tried so many things like connecting to USB and restarting the phone at that time to start recovery by same pressing volume down button method.
But it didnt work still.
Since I was not able to go into recovery, and since my nand backup was some days old and had some data which was needed.
I flashed only system partition from the .587 ftf. using flashtool and rooted the phone again using normal procedure.
I thought the volume down button will work for recovery but it is still not working. (The button works normally when phone is on i.e for volume down process.)
Please help me what can be done.
P.S.: As of now I can go into recovery using x-parts or any other tool like titanium. But only manual recovery entry is not working.
So it means, I wont be able to go into recovery if I get bootloops again. And I am afraid to change/port anything on my phone now.
try the back button instead of the volume down button

back button also didnt work.. Thanks for your reply anyways....
To add to my point....when I repeatedly press volume down/back button, the LED turns blue,,,but as per my observation, previously it used to stay till recovery starts, but now it turns on for 4-5 seconds and then goes off, and then the Experia bootanim shows up.
Is it like the exploit which activates recovery at boot time is damaged?(just a guess)..If maybe yes..how can I solve it?
Try to install recovery again via flashtool.

How did you install CWM? Try taping on screen when you see boot logo.

Or flash a stock kernel with recovery included (I think you can still do that with locked bootloader, but not sure as I unlocked as soon as I got the phone)

Thanks Madfysh...tapping on the screen worked... :good: so happy...
I had tried every button.. Didnt think of screen though...
Initially, I had installed CWM thru DoomLoRD's rooting toolkit. Then I had installed x-parts by pvyParts. There it said a new CWM version was available(v5.5). So I had upgraded that.
Was it the upgrade that had this change?

There is one version floating around which is using tapping on screen to enter in recovery, so since for you, back and volume- didn't work. Tap on screen was only option left, having in mind that you said that you can enter recovery using xparts, meaning that your recovery is installed ok.
p.s. I doubt you used doomlord's root toolkit to install CWM

ok..got it..thanks...
For rooting I used Doomlord's toolkit. and the CWM 5.0 comes with that only..I had read somewhere about xparts...so installed it and updated the recovery.tar thru it...that must have done the trick...
First I will tell you all the steps that led up to this point, my phone is GT-S5660 aka Gio:
1. I rooted using superoneclick.
2. I updated su binary, su app through store
3. I flashed px-recovery 2 through recovery mode (at this point after I clicked reboot I could no longer acsses recovery, not through the normal key combination, although during the install it seemed to work, said installing cwm and then successful)
4. I turned it on normally
5. I downloaded Rom Manager from store
6. I clicked reboot to recovery
Now if I turn it on I see samsung logo (the first one, not the flashing one), I can acssess downloading mode, and few other modes which I think they are unrelevant.
My not so clever analysis: I ruined recovery so that you can't enter that, then in my stupidity I forced it to enter recovery mode. Please help me fix this issue, I don't think it's totally ruined because it worked before I pressed that button... :\
If you can access download mode, then flash a different rom via Odin. Your phone will be good as new

Obviously you haven't made a nandroid backup before rooting your phone...
Sorry mate, next time you will.
Use custom recovery like CWM and make a nandroid backup before messing with your ROM.
Cheers.

Actually that what I was trying to do, I tried to change recovery to CWM but it didn't work... I flashed it via recovery, the only thing I used on Rom manager was this button
Pheraps there is a command through adb to reboot normally?
I have tried every single freaking thing but it doesn't work, and I still wonder if there is not an easier solution, I'm not sure if you're quite getting me, the phone worked good untill I pressed reboot into recovery, I didn't install any cwm from rom manager... And if you're still certain I must flash another rom through odin well I'm not quite sure which, I searched for one on sammoblie but there are so many... and I can't find out what is my PDA and CSC
Hi everyone,
I'm having a hard time booting into TWRP after a full shutdown of my phone. If I restart the phone and hold the volume up button, everything works fine, but if I go from a fully powered off state and hold the home, power and volume up buttons I will see the blue text show up at the top that the recovery is booting, then the screen will just go black and not do anything for a few seconds before vibrating and doing a normal reboot.
I rooted and installed TWRP using bhp090808's tool here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301720
I'm am currently still using the stock ROM and I want to get this worked out before I flash a custom.
Thanks.
When rebooting into recovery manually, hold the volume up, home and power buttons. When the phone vibrates, release the power button while continuing to hold the home and volume up buttons. That's the correct manual way to get into recovery.

Having the same issue. Not sure how to resolve, I know with GS3 you can flash recovery VIA ODIN but I obviously didn't want do do the GS3 Clockwork Mod recovery, worried that it may cause more damage.
Holding VOL UP + PWR from a cold boot doesn't work. Black Screen then Reboots again.
I would suggest following this post if you had the same issue.
It will revert you back to stock and you have to root your phone again, it will go back to a usable state, if you are in a soft brick scenario.
Having the same issue. I use different apk's to enter into recovery mode. Or - connect to computer and reboot via adb reboot recovery.

This was the right solution for me. Everything works great now. Thanks and thanked!
You actually don't need to hold the Home button, works with just volume up and power.
have CWM recovery and can't switch to TWRP
I installed initially installed CWM recovery when I rooted the phone. I then installed TWRP (I thought so anyway) using goo manager and when I boot into recovery mode I still get CWM recovery. Any suggestions as to what I can do to get TWRP to work? I am currently running the CM 10.1 rom.

What version of twrp? 2.6.0.0? Major issues with that version right now, find 2.5.0.2. Flawless...

2.5.0.2 might be the build that I should be using with my phone. Presently I have constant issues with 2.6.0, either the phone getting stuck @ the team win logo causing me to have to battery pull.. Or just rom's not booting.
Hopefully someone has a download link of 2.5.0.2 out there, I'm unable to locate it anywhere. And hopefully it wont break anything if I downgrade.

No problem. I noticed alot of zips people are making are causing problems because of the way they have their updater-script written for flashing recoveries.

Just an FYI...
I'm not using 2.6.0 any longer either but just for those that don't know.
When your phone hangs on the TWRP screen you don't have to pull the battery, you can reboot recovery by holding the volume up and power button at the same time.
Works for me anyway.

I'm having the strangest problem: I cannot get into CWM recovery mode by booting with the volume down button pressed. I just get a SONY logo, followed by XPERIA, and then the colorful flares of the stock ROM, as if I weren't pressing the volume down button at all.
I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted my phone, and tried three different methods of installing CWM:
1. using cwm 1.0 nypon script
2. using Team XHRR cwm script (which seems to be the same one)
3. installing the Recovery X app
All of these scripts seem to do their job succesfully, but when I shut my phone down, and boot again with volume down pressed, my phone just boots normally.
Can anybody help? I really want to install kitkat!

Which thread are you referring to? This one uses CWM to wipe the drive and flash the phone...
Anyway, if anyone else would read this thread looking for a way to access CWM, there are ways to access it without using the buttons. You can use the adb command "adb reboot recovery" or install an app to reboot to recovery mode. I found a guide on theandroidsoul .com - I'd post the link, but I'm not allowed to post external links yet...
thx and grtz

1. Fastboot kernel (f)rom zip, there you have CWM recovery.
And don't forget to copy the zip to your internal memory before you flash the kernel.
You can flash a stock kernel with built in cwm. Many kernel is working out on this with cwm.
