Hi.
Doesn´t matter what pc i connect to but all are win8
usb debug is on, unknown sources is on, installed Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit v7 and Samsung_USB_Driver_1.5.16.0 on pc, Odin 3.07 does not see any connected device. phone makes the noise when connect to usb and charghing just no reaction from pc or any reaction from android os pulldown menu.
I installed that leaked 1.3gb arab official samsung rom since i wanted to use my allshare cast dongle, tho I seem to need to use triangle away in order to get a allshare cast connection with my tv, and to use triangle away i need super user acces for which i was going to use ODIN with CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5
Has the USB port been pshysically damaged? i just did a factory reset, back to the default original leaked 4.2.1 which did nothing to solve my problem.

Go to pc system device manager, is the phone listed under connected usb devices or has a problem noted?
If it is there and shows the correct drivers then the problem is on the phone, I'd try going back to EMB5 stock first - rather than a leak.

okidoki, now i am confused! see screenshot.
what is EMB5? and if it's a rom can i still make it work with my current issue?
Do you have an entry for Samsung USB controller within the Universal Serial controllers, if not then the device isn't being recognised.
By EMB5 I meant flash the genuine stock Samsung 4.1.2 ROM via odin, not some leaked version of 4.2.
This will test if your issue is hardware or software related.
Finally, you are trying to connect the phone to odin in bootloader mode - right?

You mean power + volume down + home button? yes. tried it, used t recognize it that way.
Is there ANY way to root my device NOT using the usb port, I'm going to assume it's been damaged somehow (beer, maybe a smal shallow bath) It did act weird a short period afterwards with making the "connected and charging beep sound" and un-doing it, then re again but all that dissapeared pretty quickly, like the day after. Otherwise the phone is in pristine condition and not even a scratch on it despite heavy usage through usage since bought in July.
IF I send it in for service, do you have any good advice for me on how to approach them with my odds being the best, I mean, custom rom, but that should'nt matter when they test the port and notice it doesn't work for them either, right?
Jesus christ Maria, booze damages has cost me more than the actual alcohol and this is Sweden we're talking about, most expensive place on the planet.

Hi all,
All up until a few days ago, my computer/s cannot recognise my Samsung Galaxy S2. Whenever I connect my phone to my computer, the phone believes I am plugging in the charger.
I have attempted to turn on/off USB debugger, attempted the USB mass storage connection method and also attempted to use Winamp's automount option.
I thought it could have been my cable and I have tried different cables and phones and it seems my phone is the only problematic one.
Before this issue, usb used to connect very easily, even used for my car headunit.
Yesterday I was running the 2.3.6 firmware and recently changed to 4.0.3 and neither allow the usb to be working.
Has anyone encountered this problem and does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Did the USB work on previous firmware if so you have messed up the install revert to older stock rom firmware and test .
jje
It didnt stop working due to a firmware upgrade. It randomly stopped working when I was using 2.3.6 so i thought maybe upgrading would do the trick, which it did not.
Try doing a factory reset..
Yeah, did a factory reset when I changed from 2.3.6 to 4.0.3 and just tried again. No difference.
I did notice that this error may have occurred when I may have dropped the phone. Not too sure how this would affect anything but just putting it out there.
Did you drop it with the usb connected?
Sounds like its a hardware problem, just try flashing stock again to be 100%

ICS is not an upgrade its an unstable beta rom not passed by Samsung for use .
Possible dirty USB ports .
jje
How would one proceed with cleaning the usb ports?
In the past I happened to have trouble connecting with the usb port and I solved unistalling and reinstalling Kies. Have you already tried?
I believe what I'm attempting to do is to even use the phone as a mass storage device. I used to be able to do this via straight windows to any computer and even my car headunit. However at the moment a cable is only recognised as a power source and not as a data connection.

just gave this a go, going to leave it overnight to dry. wish me luck
No luck but I have concluded that the USB port possibly could be broken. I'm wondering, does rooting the phone void warranty?
Unfortunatelly it does...
Wipe everything U can, flash back original firmware and do reset with factory JIG... Than U have chance to claim warranty. But its not 100%...
There is thred about reverting somewhere...

Try again but after restarting ur computer !
Does the computer see any external drives (whether you can connect to them or not)?
Does the computer make a noise when you connect or disconnect the phone?

I heard there was a KIES firmware update for my phone and so wanted to update. I installed KIES into my laptop and when I fired it up it notified of a KIES software update(update of KIES itself) and after updating KIES,I connected my phone which was detected properly.
I did the firmware update subsequently and after that the problem started. When I connect my phone using USB to the laptop, nothing happens, the phone doesnt charge even. Everything else works fine. I searched various forum posts but none of them work
1. Tick/Untick the USB debugging checkbox at Settings>Applications>Development - did not work
2. type *#7284#, toggle PDA <-> MODEM. didnt work
3. One curious thing is that, if I connect the phone after the phone is fully booted, it is not detected and the phone doesnt charge at all. But if connect the phone when it is switched OFF and then Switch it on, the phone does charge but still is not detected.
4. The cable is not faulty as it works perfectly with other samsung phones(Fit etc...).Also, its not the problem with my laptop as other mobiles are detected fine on my laptop.
pls help
Couple of things to try
1 Check the pins of the bottom of the phone?
2 Uninstall Kies and drivers, and reinstall?
The pins seems to be fine, anything specific I should look for?..and I have tried connecting in other systems with KIES and still the same problem. My friend's android phones connect fine in all the systems. Even if it was KIES drivers problems, shudnt it atleast charge the cell??
Rule one is use official Samsung USB cable
Rule two is use a mainboard USB Port .
jje
Hmm, It is a official samsung cable.
I did not understand what u meant by mainboard port?? I am not using any hub if that whats you meant. I am thinking it is an issue because of the firmware update.
I was actually thinking of getting the firmware update and subsequently, after backing up using clockworkmod, I was thinking if getting either villianROM or revolutionROM. Now, backing up is out of question as the present firmware is broken. So, If I go ahead with the flashing, what options do I have if I want it to get to factory state for warranty purposes.
Connecting the AC charger when phone is switched on, will initiate charging?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
yes. Normal charging happens fine. So its not the pins I guess.

How about a factory reset? Try that!
sorry, should have mentioned that. I did factory reset twice and then went into recovery mode and did a wipe and clean and cleaned the cache too.
So, alternatively where can I get the stock rom/firmware for the specs i provided above. I found a thread where various firmware were provided but one compatible with my kernel..csc etc,, was not there
I appreciate u all replying. I tried on the indian thread but nobody seems to feel it worth replying.
Mainboard or motherboards USB port only .

Hi Everyone. I'm having a problem with my i9300 since upgrading to Jelly Bean (XXDLIH).
I am 100% stock and unrooted (due to work email restrictions) and had bit the bullet and installed the XXDLIH upgrade via Odin.
Everything went well and the phone is pretty much working perfectly, with 2 exceptions:
1) The phone doesn't recognise it's attached to a dock when in my iBolt dock in the car - I've read a response from iBolt and this seems to be an issue on Samsung's part with the Jelly Bean upgrades. Now I can live with this as I can always upgrade via Odin to the next big thing when it's released right? Nope, see exception 2:
2) No matter what I do, I can't seem to get my computer to recognise the phone when it's connected via USB. It keeps throwing the USB device not recognised error.
Now I've tried three different USB cables and 2 different computers. USB debugging is enabled and the developer option switch is on. The phone pulls a charge from the computer and I can hear the computer ding when the device is connected.
I have factory reset twice.
I've tried the Kies troubleshooter which re-installed the drivers, I've also uninstalled and re-installed Kies.
I've also tried connecting with the phone in download mode and the PC still won't find it.
I've seen Odin available in Play, but to use it I've got to root my phone, which will then cause me all sorts of ball ache due to my phone no longer adhering to corporate policy.
Is there anyone out there that can help out?
Thanks
Mike.
Just one more question on this, if it's not possible to fix the USB issue, is it possible to flash a stock firmware image via the stock recovery?
Thanks
Mike.

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum. I've got a Samsung i777 on android 2.3.6 kernel 2.6.35.7 build number gingerbread.uckk6
I've recently bought this phone off ebay
My phone does not get detected by windows 7 or Macbook. I've tried changing the USB flex cable with I9100 v2.3 but still no luck.
When I connect USB port it beeps and shows mtp-initialization/mtp-connected on the phone but it is not shown on windows. It says USB cannot recognise the device. I've got a s3 and ideos x3 both of them are detected.
I've installed kies 3 on my laptop.
I had to swtich off the wifi on the phone because it consumes a lot of battery, I think it is because of the android version I'm using!
I want to root the phone and unlock it!!
Any help is appreciated!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
I'm guessing the problem is the Samsung drivers you have installed for the s3. Try uninstalling those and installing the correct drivers for s2.
Sent from my GT-p511x
you can check this thread for driver
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
You most likely need a new cable. Happened to me once! Could be the drivers but I HIGHLY recommend just trying a new USB cable.
Thank you guys for all your help really appreciate it!
I have tried all the steps mentioned above tried to uninstall all the previous drivers I had and installed the new driver as mentioned in the above link but no luck
I tried it on a friends computer with a different cable still it shows the USB device is not recognised!!

Did you install another ROM? It might help to Wipe system, Data, ETC! it appears to be a software problem. Or at least my guess is the ROM your using.
The Galaxy phones all use the same USB drivers whether it's an S2, S3, S4, etc., so if the installed drivers were working for your S3, it's unlikely to be a driver issue.
Can you boot it into download mode? If you happen to have a USB jig, that's the easiest. Otherwise, power off the phone, unplug the USB cable, hold Vol +/Vol-, then plug in the USB cable. It should go into ODIN download mode. See if Windows detects the phone that way. If so, it very well could be something weird with the OS installed (although it appears to be stock).
If you can get into download mode, you can flash a stock kernel to make sure you are starting fresh. A good file repository is found here. I recommend the stock UCKH7 image I777_UCKH7_OCD_No_BL.7z (you'll also get root).
And yes, the UCKK6 release had a serious bug related to the wifi that could drain your battery. Best to go with UCKH7.
You could also download an app that allows you to enter download mode.

I was able to boot to download mode by holding the vol +/- key and then plugging in the USB cable but there is no movement from the computer it doesn't make a sound nor does it detect. I tried restarting the phone then I get a notification on windows that USB device not recognised!
Yes I guess this rom is useless, if the wifi is switched on then battery would not even last 6 hrs!

Are you saying to get a balloon notification in the tray that says the USB device is not recognized? A possible reason for that is a faulty USB cable or USB port (funny enough, I actually got that message last night when I was playing around with my Captivate, and switching USB ports made it work). I know you said you've tried other computers an another USB cable, but that's about my only idea. Maybe there's some debris inside the connector that's messing up the connection.
When you say you changed the "USB flex cable", are you talking about the internal connector and board inside the phone? If so, perhaps the I777 connector board is actually a little different than the I9100 board and causing a compatibility issue.
The bug in UCKK6 related to wifi didn't affect everybody, but it definitely affected a lot of people (based upon reports here).

If you have an SD card, you can download another ROM on that SD card from your computer and then you can install custom recovery (CWM) and then install the ROM from SD card.

First ill run you through the problem I had. Just for reference did you use Mr. Cooks script before flashing Cyanogenmod 11? One of his scripts for cleaning before flashing, actually deletes a certain file, not to keen on which one. What it results in though is not being able to flash OF ROMS and some certain custom ROMS! So id recommend alliance's ROM! As for the "Getting the ROM on your device, you could put the ROM on your SD though recovery "Mount and storage/Mount mass storage/" or just use a micro sd card adapter and move it on there that way.
Thanks for your reply. Would you mind sending me the link on how to do that step by step as mentioned I'm new to Samsung phones and also this forum.

What state is your phone currently in? Is it still not detected by the computer? You are still on 2.3.6, correct?
If it's still not being detected by your computer, I'm not sure if you can flash anything needed using the stock recovery. I know that when I flashed stock JB, I was able to boot into stock recovery and directly apply the standard CWM update file here. It will give boot into a temporary CWM that should allow you to flash other ZIP files (like a ROM), although I had trouble doing that (so I ended up flashing the AJK_v4.9_NoSwap.zip kernel using the MobileOdin android app, which gave a permanent CWM recovery).
I'm not sure if this same process works with the 2.3.6 recovery. However, in order to get the stock recovery to see the internal SD card, I had to run adb shell commands to mount the partition (meaning I had to have a working connection from the computer).
Solved!!!
HI Guys,
Many many thanks for all your responses!
I have changed the USB flex cable again to an older version v2.2 and my phone is currently being detected by kies! So relieved thanks a lot for all your help..now the rooting begins!!
Hello everyone, I could not find a good title for my issue but I will try to explain as well as I can. I own a GT-I9300 (International), but since last official Samsung's firmware update(Jelly Bean 4.3) I am not able to get my phone recognized by my computer. Phone is connected and it charges, but neither Windows or Ubuntu recognizes it as a portable device. I am concerned about UMS is not available on device, but my phone it does not even get detected! I also own a Galaxy SII (4.1.2) and it does get detected by my PC. I think that flashing a custom ROM could solve the problem, since it appeared when I updated official firmware, but the thing is that I cannot root my phone! Tried ODIN but since my phone does not get detected, ODIN does not do its job. I also tried rooting with framaroot and towelroot, but no success: first one says "Failed , try another exploit" but there is only one. And the last one says my phone is not currently supported, even if I change modstrings.
So here is my question: how do I root my phone? I don't know what else I could try. I have already reinstalled Kies and Samsung USB drivers but still not working. Also hard-resetted but no luck.
Hope you guys can help me out because this is really getting on my nerves
Thanks in advance!

The thing is that my phone is the only one that do not get detected every single time I connect it. I have already connected one GT-I9100 and GT-S6790L and both get detected. I already tried on 3 different Virtual Machines with Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 8.1 but no luck.

I can see your frustration Now a few things technically it is a misconception that you need root to flash a custom rom you can actually flash a custom recovery with Odin full wipe and then flash a custom rom from custom recovery (only thing is you will lose all your data because you need root to back up your data)
Now I know the above statement is not very helpful because as you said Odin doesn't detect it (but I thought I would mention it anyway )
The reason framaroot and towelroot, didn't work is because at the moment the only way to root S3 is with Odin.:crying:
You may have tried this but I will mention it anyway first uninstal Kies and all Samsung drivers from your computer ( kies can interfere with Odin) Then try installing these drivers here >> http://developer.samsung.com/techni...Lhp1GqlWRy92Q60CX6PP1mF!80806326?v=T000000117 << If you have tried this then sorry.
Also when you connect the phone go to Device manager in Windows and try to look for your device ( it may say unkown device) it should have a warning triangle right click on it select update driver software and then select browse from my computer and point to the drivers that you have downloaded see if that works.
Another thing to note is if you are using Windows 8 you need to disable Driver signature in start up options ( Google it) for Windows to recognize the drivers.

I already tried uninstalling Kies and Samsung drivers. Also I tried looking for device on Device Manager but it does not appear when I plugin my S3, but it does appear when I connect other devices like S2 or Galaxy Fame Lite. They appear as portable devices.
I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have already tried with different OS over Virtual Machines and still doesn't work.
And thanks for that note, didn't know there was possible to flash a Custom Recovery without root, but I can't since ODIN doesn't detect device :crying:
Then it looks like you are running out of options I would use another computer not Virtual Machines
Okay I'll give it a try but as I said before, looks like an firmware issue, not computer's. Why would my computer detects two another Samsung devices but not mine (which used to work until last update)
Me, too!
I'm having a similar problem. Last week my GS3 stopped working, and I bought another one from Ebay with a cracked screen and swapped out motherboards. The phone seems to work as well as a stock Verizon phone on Jellybean would, but I can't get my Linux, Win 8, or Win XP computers to even recognize that it's attached. Different cables, each and every one of the USB ports, not even a blip. Device Manager in Windows doesn't even see it, and yes I got the developer options unlocked and have enabled USB debugging.
I've got the Samsung drivers installed, and tried to install the CWM device drivers from the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V9, but there was an error and that didn't work, either.
USB connection issues are usually due to Windows conflicts, driver problems or the lead itself. If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

I'm 100 percent sure that it is not due a Windows issue, I have already test every option. I have not considered the usb port to be damaged or worn, which could be possible but phone charges every time I connect it to computer. It just does not get detected as a device. But in order to assume it is a motherboard issue I will have to put away my feeling that the problem is caused by last OTA official update, since this problem started there.
If it is a firmware update issue, is it any option to flash another ROM?

As I said on previous posts, I have already installed and reinstalled Samsung USB drivers and made a factory reset -one from config. option and another one from Android stock recovery 3e (since I cannot install any advanced recovery -or even root it- to flash a custom rom). Doing those factory reset did not downgrade my last firmware update (when all my problems started).
I also said on previous posts that I tried towelroot and framaroot with no success. As tallman43 says, seems like international version of S3 does not support those kind of one-click to root apps.
-----------------------------------------------------
So far the only options available (if my theory about latest firmware update is the problematic one) are:
● downgrade firmware: [Q] How? Odin is not working since my phone does not get detected;
● root my phone in order to install an advanced recovery and flash a new ROM: [Q] Any way of rooting phone without computer (apart from towelroot or framaroot because I have tried and do not work for me)? I read one XDA post from 2 years ago to root S3 via console apk but latest comments assumes that method stopped working.
● install an advanced recovery without odin or root: [Q] How?
● fix USB firmware issue: [Q] I have completely no idea how to do it. (Already played with *#7284# and *#0808# but did not get my phone detected)
Please I need help, this is really irritating me and I am running out of ideas

I guess I have found out what the problem was. It was not firmware (as I thought). It was the micro USB port (as boomboomer said) which seems to not be firmly attached to the PCB. AC charging just seems to work okay, but not USB connections. I managed to figure it out by forcing the USB in a specific position to get it detected for 5 seconds, but then it disappeared.
Yeah, it was not as complex as I thought! I will try to replace that micro USB port as soon as possible, thanks everyone for your help!
