Need help refreshing device for better battery - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I've been flashing left and right trying to find a ROM worth sticking with. And my battery is being abused big time. Percentage after percentage with just texting and things. Does anyone have any suggestions on cm10 ROMs or other ROMs that have the theme manger option that don't eat up the battery? And I know that wiping battery stats in cwm is helpful but I wanna refresh my battery. Can I have some help? Thanks

Try sticking to one ROM for a few days. Typically takes a few charging cycles to settle in. Also, if you can let it drain down fairly low then let it charge completely before taking off the charger for a few days. This will usually get the ROM and battery to sink better together.

Thanks and,
See the thing is I like the cm10.1 ROMs. But which one would u recommend for me to flash and in which steps are best to have better results from the rom ? Wipe/data cache and then system ?

ALWAYS wipe caches and format system when changing ROMs.

[Q] When does a Wipe Battery Stats need to be done?

I know, when you replace a battery
But my question really revolves more around changing ROMS. Are there enough differences between ROMS that would make a battery wipe necessary when changing ROMS to ensure accurate reporting of the battery level?
I'm wanting to know the same thing to... And I need someone to tell me how to do a battery wipe correctly.. Because I've heard of multiple ways of doing it.. I.e. Doing it at 100% battery then letting it die out.. Then I've heard to do it when your battery is at like 5% then charge to 100%...

I'm in the process of Method 1...I think I picked that up one of the Cyanogen-based ROM threads, saying it was necessary to do that to get an accurate battery status with the new ROM.
Hence my question...when is it necessary and what is the correct procedure?
I did method 1 of my post and it has seemed like it has helped my battery tremendously... From what I've heard it's necessary after flashing a new ROM. And I can't remember who.. But I think it was tazz that informed people about method one. Don't quote me on that though haha.
i usually do one if i notice ****ty battery life and all you need to do is let battery drain then after a good charge wipe your batt stat in recovery, atleast i notice a difference when done this way....
I'm doing method 1 now, trying to get the juice down but its stuck on 9% left. Hmm, making me think there is some truth to this. Not that I'd doubt a dev .... (Taz )

I don't know what's the most effective and efficient but I When I do it I let the battery fully die then boot it into recovery real quick, do the wipe then power down and charge.when it's finished charging I power on and use til it's fully dead, then charge fully again while powered down.
I've had real good battery life running conaps CELB 1.6 and 1.7.1

[Q] Battery Life on Nero V3

I have been looking through forum after forum about the battery life on this rom, it has been dropping 1 percent every 2 minutes or so and is about to be dead. Does this sound like a battery problem or should i just recondition it. I just wanna know whether to buy a new battery, get a new rom or what?
Ive been having the same problem, ive already tryed the reconditioning process but i still lose battery very fast. But the only time i dont lose alot is when its on standby.
my battery is outstanding on v3. Id reset and and try again, or check your apps, something has to be up. :u
What do you mean reset? Like back to stock

I think he means go into recovery and clean cache and dalvik cache. Maybe even do a factory reset (however that will clear out your applications). Just make sure you have good backups before doing a factory reset.
That never hurts to odin back to stock just to rule out the ghosts and goblins. to me, it sounds like an app issue. How many widgets are you using that need to refresh? How many programs are open and active when you first start your phone? Are you using a task killer? Are you actually using the phone actively, or is it on "standby"? Answer a few of these to give us a better picture of your usage.
My battery life has been stellar.

thanks for the wonderful help and awesome insight..
Mine has been pretty good... I would recommend what swehes said.
I got pretty good standby time, but when I use the phone (such as calling, browsing web), battery drains super fast. I can have it last more than 4 days with light usage, but less than 10 hours with normal usage (no games, only texting, calling and browsing web).
Either do the process people are calling "recondition your battery" (charge fully, drain fully, charge fully, then immediately wipe your battery stats), or charge your battery fully once on an external stand-alone charger, then wipe your battery stats.
The battery profile in the stats file with the ROM just doesn't match your real battery's performance characteristics -- low charge point, high charge point, usage curves, etc. ... so it thinks it has juice when it doesn't, or it may shut down when you should still have juice left, etc.
My battery life has improved with every day. At first, when I cleared the battery stats in CWR, the phone lasted me around 36 hours. However, the day after it could not hold for more than 16 hours, but it has been increasing and now stays around 26 hours with my moderate to heavy use.
EDIT: Freezing Media Hub and the device management service in TB has definitely contributed to the prolonged battery life, I should probably remove it all together.

If you use Titanium Backup (I highly recommend spending ~$5.00 for a full Pro version) you can freeze the apps via the Batch operation.

Well i just conditioned my battery and that didnt help. So i'll try wiping the caches and then if that doesnt work then i will odin back to stock and fresh install it.

reconditioning the battery is good to do but only gives a minor difference in how long it takes to drain. I already know it's an app problem. Open you're settings, go to applications, and select running services. What do you see?
Could it be device management?

Charge to full, boot into CWM and wipe battery stats.
Use until device dies from dead battery, recharge to 100%. Use as normal for a couple days. It should get better.

yea read it was a myth a while ago
Flashed cm9 today and now my battery life is horrible, when it it's on the charger it takes forever to charge.
I had that problem also so I wiped everything and formatted everything and Redlands everything starting with cm9 v 0.1.0 2d , then flashed cm9 v 0.2.0 . Everything great

myth
maybe a myth and from everything i have read (that article included) it seems to be. but im ok with the placebo affect or whatever bc i at least FEEL like it has helped since i did it after getting on cm9 beta 0.2.0 or whatev. not on beta 0.3 battery has been sucked hard as all get out, but such is life.
I have a question/comment about this. When a ROM is flashed I always wipe and format /data, /system, /cache, /davlik-cache, and factory reset. At this time I power down and recharge although the recharge may not matter as the lowest I've been was 85%. After recharge I boot into CWM and wipe/factory reset again then allow the phone to reboot. Isn't the batterystats.bin file in one of those places I wiped/formatted?
Once it's booted I just turn off and power up again then activate. Out of all the different ROMs I have tried this usually works very well. There was only one time my battery life was poor after flashing and I tried a battery wipe app and it still didn't help. I finally attributed it to the ROM and flashed a different one. Following the same process the new ROM was installed and battery life is great again. Did this yesterday flashing Rocko unlocked 3.0. After 4 to 4-1/2 hours of heavy use, when I say heavy I mean heavy, I am still at nearly 70% battery. If it works the way it looks to, I'll be getting at least 10-12 hours on a charge, probably more.

Calibration
So what you are saying since I have a Photon with an extended battery even rooting it won't calibrate the battery. It sits at 1% for hours. Had an HTC prior and didn't have this problem. Waste of money getting an extended battery when you don't know when it is going to die on you.

Not at all. What I'm saying is I personally don't use ine as I wipe battery stats as part of ny flashing process and do my first boot on a new rom with my battery at 100%. That works for me.
If you're switching to an extended battery you may need to wipe battery stats. This can be done with a battery calibration app or from within CWM, if you've unlocked and installed a custom recovery.
BTW: Rooting will allow you to install and run a batt cal app but rooting alone will not calibrate your battery.

So I will be learning more about rooting. But I thought i saw where others who had extended batteries that rooted with calibration apps their Photon still didn't read correctly. I could be misunderstanding something. Newbie here.

[Q] Battery drain problem - or is it just me?

Hi there,
just in advance: Yes, I have read quite a bunch of battery drain threads, but non of them seemed to help me.
Compared to GB, my SGS2 doesn't even seem to last more than a day in terms of battery life.
Now I wonder - is it just me playing around with (otherwise awesome) CM9 and battery life is actually normal or is there some kind of battery drain going on?
Running CM9 14-04, stock kernel, LPS baseband.
Attached please find BBS stats and other battery stats screenshots.
Help very much appreciated

Awake over 2 hours, 1 hr 43 min screen on, down to 62%. That's on track for 5.5 hours awake time, and about 4.5 hours screen on time. Looks pretty normal.
You MIGHT be able to squeeze a bit more juice out by playing with your sync and display settings, but that otherwise doesn't look that bad.

Have you tried to re-calibrate your phone? I once messed around with my battery and i lost 70% battery overnight when it was on 100% because i was unplpugging, plugging my phone in randomly.
How do I do that?
Just bought a 2000mA battery and it seems I still got the same 'issue'...

Did you try to wipe your battery stats? Also, I noticed that playing around flashing the Roms, requires 2-3 full charging cycles before the battery was "stable" again
I've also read the following but didn't try it (I imagine it does the same than wiping the battery stats in the recovery, but you never know, you can try it):
Delete batterystats.bin in data/system, after full charging (with Rootexplorer or another app)
Then, use it until to 90%, and full charging.
Good luck!
When is it a good idea to wipe battery stats? When it's empty or at full charge?

The CM9 has some battery drain problems because is still developing maybe try wiyth another rom and see if the problem remains

Stats seem fine to me. Your phone shouldn't drain much when idle, but once that big screen is lit up the power drains much faster. The SGS2 stock battery is not huge to begin with either. Your 2000mah will be better though, especially after using it for a few cycles. You can also try flashing a different stock kernel or custom kernel (Siyah, etc).

Thanks guys!
So charged my 2000mA battery up to 100% now and wiped the battery stats. Hope this helps.
I really wanted to stick to CM9, because I don't wanna do a factory reset every couple of days when flashing other ROMs, because I'm tired of setting up all my stuff over and over again...
Are the other ROMs really that much better? Thought that CM9 would be best, because most popular...
Or could it be the baseband/modem too?

Battery conditioning.

Does anyone still condition their batteries whenever flashing new ROMS and such? I remember back when I had the Vibrant when it first came out and I learned about custom ROMs and xda forums, you always had to condition your battery afterwards. This idea still relevant at all for keeping a healthy battery or extending its life cycle?

If you mean charging your phone to 100% and deleting batterystats.bin, that process is pretty useless. The battery stats file is automatically deleted when your phone reaches 100%, and unless you phone is almost dead, just use and charge it normally.
I usually calibrate the battery using battery calibration only after I have went from dead to 100% on the battery on a new ROM. If you have any issues with drainage like I have on Tweaked before, just do it.

I've has GN2 since launch day. Never conditioned the battery once, never had a single battery problem on stock, Cleanrom or Tweaked. This is the first phone in a long time that the battery just works and lasts and lasts without micromanagement.
I've been wondering this since I got this phone. I always saw the battery threads in the charge forum and thought it was weird when I didn't see that here. I've dine it a few times on this phone but I guess now I know that I don't need too.

I've been using my Note II for a couple of weeks now and I never had to do any conditioning when using anything TouchWiz based. I flashed an AOSP ROM for the first time today, so I'll be keeping an eye out to see the changes.
Also do you guys think its a bad idea to flash ROMs without a fully charged battery?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
I do battery conditioning...it's called letting the battery management system do it's job and not trying to interfere.
And, there is no particular advantage to flashing with a full charge. I actually can't remember the last time I did, and I'm thinking back across 3 phones over two years. The worst you might get is a messed up percentage until you fully charge, but even that is rare.
The only thing I would worry about if flashing while low on battery would be the device dying mid flash.
Other than that I can see no reason not to.
Right on, thanks for the responses guys. Yeah I just been curious about this because before I used to always see people talk about conditioning batteries and wiping battery stats etc.

Pretty sure the main reason you don't want to flash on a low battery is it could run out while it's still flashing. I've flashed at 30% and no ill affects.
People should go here and then make up their own minds rather then try to follow a bunch of mixed information.
