I don't think this is possible, but if so, is there a way to share my unlimited data via tethering to my tablet?
I know when my car is in my toyota, it asks if i want to share the internet with the car for its web apps like pandora, opentable, maps, sports, etc.. So obviously the phone can share internet, but when i tried foxfi and other tether apps, i get a popup blocking it.
I don't think you can do this wirelessly, but you should be able to do it via USB with PDAnet. I forget how to do it but that's what my dad does and he's not rooted.
Not sure how you would connect to your car though... But it's worth looking into.

No, if you were on a tiered plan you could, but nor with unlimited. Well atleast wirelessly you can't.

I would be very careful with that because you'll end up with the mobile hotspot feature if you aren't real careful with a 2GB data cap.
You're unrooted, or rooted OTA s on? Didn't know if you meant you were unlocked and rooted and running the OTA firmware.
If you're speaking of Toyota Entune, I know with T-Mobile customers it requires them enabling the mobile hotspot on their cell phone. Or tethers via USB. If you enabled the hotspot, in theory you should have had to check a little box or something that says "Yes I want to allow other devices to use my verizon mobile hotspot and agree to the terms and conditions."

I am on Verizon Unlimited grandfathered plan on a stock un-rooted OTA updated phone. Yet i'm somehow sharing data through to the car.
Try clockwork mod usb tether??
Husker_DNA
I wish you could do bluetooth tethering with the tiered dataplan, would be much more versatile than being restricted to usb (would use it with the ipad), plus your still using up your data so why should verizon care
From Toyota... somehow it is using data when no other app allows me to hotspot.
Will Entune™ use my phone's data plan for operation?
Yes, Entune™ relies on your mobile phone's data-plan and carrier charges will apply. Each application within Entune™ will have different data usage depending on how often you engage each application. Daily use of Pandora® or iHeartRadio [1] use large amount of data and may have an impact on your cellular data plan. You can take a look at the data calculators provided on your cellular carrier's website or speak with your wireless carrier to understand what data plans would fit you the best.

Be careful, Big Red (and others) is watching. Wireless tether, easy tether, and PDAnet have all been removed from the market for VZW customers. I am sure a quick Google search will find the apks to download, but I think part of what is pushing carriers to demand locked bootloaders is people abusing rooted tethering. I can’t say that I agree since I am paying for the data so it should not matter if I use it through my phone or laptop, but there have been rumblings of problems such as data throttles for heavy data users.

I don't agree with them, but I think the rationale is the buffet metaphor... you can't pay for the buffet and invite 5 friends to share your meal. I think this is a big part of why (to my knowledge) USB tethering isn't being targeted. Wifi tethering is like sharing with 5 friends, USB tethering is bringing your own plate and silverware.
Honestly I'd prefer a "do what you want, tethering or not" approach that included a X GB limit over this "unlimited, but we decide how you use it" crap.

I hear the free unrooted mobile hotspot is only free for a few more weeks.
All you have to do to download Wireless Tether or any other apps blocked by Verizon is put your phone into Airplane Mode and then turn on WiFi. As long as you have a WiFi signal with the phone in Airplane Mode, you will have accessibility to all blocked Apps in the Market, even if your phone is not rooted!

Personally, I don't like that companies are moving toward the "buffet" approach to providing internet access. I have AT&T DSL. They provide me with an internet connection. PERIOD. They don't give me the internet connection and then say only use this on one computer nor do they say I'm not allowerd to hook it up to my Linksys router. It makes more sense to me that way. Maxing out my connection speed on one machine would be equivalent to me maxing it out across several.
So I have a question about USB tethering before I pick up this phone. I frequently thether my current phone (HTC Touch Pro 2, WinMo 6.5) to my laptop when I don't have an available internet connection and there's no Wifi available (or they charge for it, i.e. some airports). With my current phone, I installed the WinMo tethering app that Verizon left out, and it uses my data plan (unlimited), without requiring me to pay extra for the Mobile Broadband service.
I was under the impression that I would probably have to root an Android phone to do this, but I noticed in the manual for the Rezound they mention an "Internet Connection Mode" when connecting the phone to a computer via USB to share the mobile data connection. For those with a Rezound, is this really possible by default, does it use a portion of your current data plan (unlimited in my case, thankfully), and do you have to pay extra for the Mobile Broadband plan?
Thanks!

there's an app called PDANet that does the same thing. I've been using it for nearly a year now. it works very well and is compatible with most Android phones(including this one).
Per the user guide:
Using HTC Rezound with Beats Audio as a modem
(USB tethering)
No Internet connection available for your computer? No problem. Use the
Internet connection of HTC Rezound with Beats Audio to connect to the
Internet.
You need your SIM card inserted on HTC Rezound with Beats
Audio to use the data connection.
To use HTC Rezound with Beats Audio as a modem, you need to
install HTC Sync on your computer first.
*** You must have an approved data plan to use this service.***
1. Make sure the data connection on HTC Rezound with Beats Audio
is turned on.
2. Connect HTC Rezound with Beats Audio to the computer using the
provided USB cable.
3. On the Choose a connection type screen, select Internet
Connection Mode, and then tap Done.

I saw that when browsing through the user guide. I wasn't sure if the "approved data plan" indicated you needed to pay for the Mobile Broadband service on top of the data plan, thus the question if anyone had tried it. I still plan to play with one in-store before commiting to the phone. I'll also checkou PDAnet.

So I tried this before PDANet, and indeed, for the built-in Internet Connection sharing USB connection, you must be subscribed to VZW's Mobile Broadband/Hotspot feature. If not, it will tell you to subscribe and gives a number. Happily using PDANet now.

This is my first smartphone in the US, but using my Desire to tether on-the-sly in Japan was cake (as long as I didn't raise any flags by going over the carrier's "unlimited" data cap). Is Verizon on the ball regarding tethering on non-"hotspot" data plans? Do they bend you over if they catch you or is it just not possible without the appropriate plan to begin with?

If your on AT&T and have a non-smart phone Samsung Mythic... you can tether it to your iPod Touch (granted you have one) and make an Ad-Hoc network with it via the wireless, then connect to it on your SGP. Battery life is fantastic so you can just keep the other two devices (the phone and iPod) in a backpack or something near you. Tedious but it works, especially since the data is unlimited on a non-smartphone plan (and they don't notice, or at least haven't for the last 2 years) if you Bluetooth DUN tether.

As far as I know, bluetooth tethering won't work with Android. So you'd need a phone with WiFi to share the 3G connection over. If your blackberry doesn't have WiFi, you'd need another device that does as the middle-man. Which becomes a bit of a hassle.
Google your phone and it's modem and make sure you won't get any extra charges for tethering (most phones WILL lead to charges without a tethering plan on unlimited data, but some seem to be hidden). And if you do, just pay for a tethering plan I suppose.

Then there is probably a guide somewhere on how to share it, I don't know whether or not AT&T will see it though, so be warned, I wouldn't risk a smartphone unlimited plan for that kind of thing. In my case, I pay for non-smartphone unlimited data and tether it so I don't really lose anything if I'm caught (It's been over 2 years so far) since it's like $10/month for AT&T 3G HSDPA.

I don't think Bluetooth DUN is possible over Android. I know it is on iOS, but I don't think anyone has gotten it to work with non-Android phones (like a Blackberry or my Samsung featurephone).
You could use your BlackBerry to make a Wireless network, but that COULD impose extra charges depending on your carrier (AT&T charges a good $10+ extra (can't remember the exact).

That depends on the Carrier. Here in the states AT&T requires that you go to a new plan (limited) and charges you for the privilage of sharing your data. Or you can try CM's new undetectable tethering as it is done at a lower level than the providers see.

Interesting, have more info on this? Considering that AT&T detects tethering using browser useragent now (DO NOT USE Dolphin HD or any other browser that uses a desktop useragent on AT&T if you're on an unlimited plan!), there's no way to do undetectable tethering without an encrypted VPN.
To others - whether tethering costs you depends on your carrier. If you're in North America, it's basically guaranteed that your provider wants you to get a special tethering plan. It's usually possible to get around this, but as discussed above - providers try really hard to find ways to bust you. Tethering a Player should not cause any of the AT&T triggers discussed above though - I've been tethering my Tab 10.1 for ages without issue.

The bottom line is No. This device DOES NOT have a hidden/internal antenna and you can't mod it to have one. "External devices" would be a hotspot or cell phone that is sharing it's connection via tethering. Though I wouldn't consider that "3G for SGP", more like, "WiFi for SGP" since that's all it is; You can't make calls over the voice network through that data through your normal phone.
Kind of a silly question in general heh, but unless you go through a good deal of trouble to either get a hotspot device and carry it around, or do the Phone -> iPod Touch -> SGP thing I do; There really isn't any other way to do this.
I have an Optimus phone. Just added a Widgetsoid2 Hotspot toggle, push the button, and presto SGP connected. It is against terms of service on Virgin Mobile, but I plan on getting rid of my phone and getting Truconnect mifi. $5/mo Hotspot (plus .039 per mb). I use less than 100mb on 3G now that I have my SGP5.
You can make calls on wifi or 3G with GrooveIP. That's all I use on wifi, and I tested it tethered to my phone and also works fine.
does anyone have anything on free HTC hotspot,,instead of giving sprint 45 dollars,,,i have the htc eco view 4g....

Yeah, the wording of the question is confusing. It sounds like the OP wants to have a free mobile hotspot coming from the View. Any type of hotspot coming from the View will require a data plan with Sprint first. There's no way to get free cellular data from it.
But if that isn't the desired outcoming, but rather it's having data on the View, besides purchasing a data plan from Sprint (which is very different than a hotspot), you'll have to either use WiFi or tether via a hotspot from a mobile device.
Thx,,your right

Never heard of this app till i saw your post... A BIG THANK YOU! coupled with PDA NET for Tablets does what wifi tether will not for me.
I am wondering what people are doing for furthering with regards to protecting themselves. I guess most of this stems from a fear of losing my unlimited data plan. Ideally, I would like to tether over a VPN connection to encrypt all my data from anyone even seeing what type it is....but since the default pptp VPN on android does not allow you to browse over VPN from a tethered client, I am wondering what people are doing (if anything) to protect themselves.
Nothing, straight tether
Spoof mobile user agent string on client
ROM that has the kernel changed to allow browsing over pptp VPN connection
Browsing over L2tp VPN
I usually tether with USB, and that's supposed to be more discreet. I've thought about using WiFi tether, but I don't see the point unless I'm trying to connect multiple devices, then I would have to consider finding something to cover up that many devices.

Are you saying than any tethering done from any tethering app (in my case "WiFi tether") runs through a proxy and that makes it undetectable by verizon?
I have not understood it to be that way. From what I understand, when you tether, unless you match the user agent string of your mobile browser, the packets/data can be detected by Verizon and they can potentially terminate your contract for violating its terms. When you use a VPN all of the data is encrypted and therefore there is no way for Verizon to detect the tethering.

Yeah, don't stress it. WiFi Tether away!
When I moved into my new house last year, it took a few days to get my internet squared away. I just tethered off my phone, and the whole family had reliable internet (as long as I was home, of course). Just make sure your brightness is down and you are plugged into a charger, cuz it drains a battery quick, and the phone will get pretty hot.
PdaNet and USB tether, here. Simple setup, secure, and has built-in cloaking of tether usage.
I just don't get why WiFi tether is such a big deal, unless you want to give away your bandwidth to other people (if you don't use security and password protect). Using USB tether keeps the phone charged while tethering, and is the most secure. Win-win-win situation, if you ask me.

It's quite easy to secure, plugging into a wall charges it better, and you don't have to install any software or drivers on the device you are trying to tether. Win, win, and win for me.
As for the overall topic, I don't do anything other than run Wifi Tether. Currently, we're tethering the whole house because our uVerse is out of service after a storm.
