[Q] Power Saving Mode Not Working - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I really enjoy the Power Saving mode that comes with the stock samsung Rom. I find it to be very usefull, when it límits the cpu clock to 400mhz.
Now i am using the WanamLite Stock Deodexed Rom Xxemr2 (Which is a version of wanamlite that is simply the stock samsung rom, Deodexed and rooted). My Kernel is also a stock bases Kernel. But i noticed that after install this Rom, the Power Saving mode is not working. The toggle button Works, and i get a toast confirming that Power Saving mode is enabled. But when using the system monitor app, i see that the CPU is running on full clock. (oscilating up to 1.4mhz when i oppen big apps). This proves that Power Saving mode is not working. I tried changing the Kernel to Siyah Kernel (Which claims to suport Power Saving mode) but it still no diferente betwen enabled and disabled. Can anyone help me? Anybody knows a solution?

My opinion is power saving mode is useless. It slows your phone down for no reason.
Go to the Play Store and download yourself Clean Master and a battery saving app,
they are the most that would help, power saving will slow your phone down to much and
is not really necessary.

[Q] The screen doesn't wake up | CheckRom RevoHD V4

Hi all, this is my first post, and i searched the forum with no luck. I have a CheckRom RevoHD V4 with the Siyah Kernel 2.6.1. The problem is that my screen won't wake up after some time that it's turned off. It doesn't happen always... it's seems a random behavior... The volume keys works because i can hear the sound of volume up and volume down, but the touchscreen, softkeys, power button and home button doesn't work at all and i can't get my home screen back. I need to remove the battery to reboot the GS2... I experienced this problem with te DarkNight kernel too. I tried to call my phone, i can hear the calling tone but the cellphone doesn't ring. I don't know if it's a rom related problem or it's a kernel problem. Hope someone can help me.
Ps: Sorry for my english
Hello I have a CheckRom v4 for my phone.i think that you to flash again with odin DarkNight kernel version 2.5.2 flash only kernel as a pda with odin
i tried to flash the new siyah kernel 2.6.4 trough CWM but not solved my problem... there is some difference between flashing trough odin an flashing trough CWM?
I have System Tuner for tweaking and set the kernel governor... i don't know if there is some incompatibility with this app and other apps like widgetlooker that need root permissions... really i don't know how i can solve this issue...

Probably. If you undervolt or underclock your phone to much, you wil get SOD's. That is basic knowlegde if you want to use those apps.
ah ok... but i don't use OC/UC or UV/OV... i only use this for change governors... but i have a question about SOD: the volume keys works in these cases? Cause mine works when display doesn't wakeup...
I'm having the same problem with this rom and kernel. I do not uv or oc. I left those settings alone.
It's really annoying and have left me missing calls because I cannot pick them up.

[Q] problem with freezing

hello people, i am having problems with my galaxy player 5.0 freezing up
i am using the cm 9 rom found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957
heres my problem first off my cpu it is overclocking on its own and i dont want it to since it harms my device's life span i can set it to the stock setting (1000 ghz) but when i go in after a while it will show up at 1200 cpu so id like to know what is up with that?
know to problem im having some of my apps will not boot up it will start to go in but it will not load into it it will freeze and after a bit it will come up " not responding do you want to close the program" it is really bugging me i ca nstill go back to my home but it takes a while and a few trys before going into the game
could this be an unsuccesful overclocking
by the way i have the us version with this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840 and this file (DD_01142012.tar)
it also freezes in the middle of one of my game (dream heights) is it the app or my device
some answers would really be appreciated
i will thank the people who respond with helpful replies:good:
You are not actually running entropy's kernel. cm9 comes with a kernel that is flashed along with the rom.
your overclock settings will not stay unless you tick the set on boot option.
you may want to do a full wipe/ reflash rom, or try cm10

[Q] S2 suddenly shutdown and died after not long after enabling powersafe mode

Not long after I enabled the power saving mode on my S2 the device suddenly shutdown (while in my pocket, battery around 60% full) and couldn't turn on again. After 2 days the S2 suddenly booted again but still won't start up all the time when I want to.
My S2 device never had this issue before (I know it is a well known issue but apparently it should have been fixed in JB?)
Software I use:
- Apolo 4.12 kernel (Regular)
- Neatrom Lite
I am thinking of either hardware starting to fail or maybe the Apolo kernel has a bug that was triggered by enabling the powersafe mode?
I am not sure, anyone that can help/advise me?
It's probably a software issue, JB has tons of bugs. What kinda advise do you want? You need to re-install the rom (and clear cache ofc) and if that doesn't work re-install the stock rom via odin and then install neatrom if you want. And just don't use power save mode until you get an update? It's useless anyway... You can also try another kernel, this seems like a kernel problem.
Power saving actually just have a few advantages like turning of un-needed things like haptic feedback and some other stuff which you could do manually, and the main power saving feature is that it limits the CPU to use only 800Mhz max, this might be having some issues with Apollo kernel (as it works fine with stock or stock based kernel like Philz), but Apollo is a powerful kernel and will let you manually adjust the CPU limits even at your preferred limits manually, so if you want to save battery just manually adjust the settings instead of using Power Saving mode.

It may be a bug in that rom. try another rom
Thank you!
Thank all of you for the help and advise!
I will no longer use the powersafe feature and start using the Apolo kernel again, since that kernel gave me the best battery life.
It might have been a coincidence of course that my S2 died/didn't want to start up no more shortly after using the powersafe feature... however from all of the above advise it seems that I don't need that feature anyway so I feel safe to switch back to the Apolo kernel again with my new installed NeatROM SuperLite 2.4.
If the problem returns I'll be here to post it, it might still be a bug in the Apolo kernel of the NeatROM ... I am not sure. Time will tell, or not if it had to do with the powersafe feature which I won't be using any more.
Thank you all!

M4 Aqua - Booting into fastboot mode
Getting into Fastboot - From the system (Android):
adb reboot bootloader
Getting into Fastboot - Alternatively (while the phone is off):
Shutdown down the phone (power it off):
Connect the USB cable to your phone (your phone only !)
Press the Volume DOWN button, keep it pressed ...
Connect the other end of the USB cable to your PC/Mac, etc. and release the Volume DOWN button
That should get you into fastboot mode (led is blue)
Additionally you can check from your PC/Mac/Linux system if the device is there: fastboot devices
Finally - Flashing the Kernel (from Fastboot)
(WiFi might NOT work ! - thus flashing from TWRP/recovery is most times better (copying updated WiFi module))
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Flashing the Kernel via TWRP/Recovery
Booting into TWRP
Press the Volume DOWN button, keep it pressed
While pressing the Volume DOWN button also press the Power Button
As soon as the screen turns on and you see the Sony logo ("splash"), release the Power Button - now ONLY keeping the Volume DOWN button pressed
When you see the TWRP Logo ("splash" / screen), release the Volume DOWN button
Once you are IN TWRP, the select the folder where the Kernel zip-file was copied to and flash ("install") it
(you must have flashed TWRP via fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img before to boot into recovery !)

The kernel currently is at a pretty early stage,
so bear with me - it's totally not where I want it to be (FauxSound, memory management improvements, even more battery/idle reductions, smoother operation, etc.)
but lack of time and focus on Xperia Z5* devices doesn't allow me to focus on it right now ...
First of all, thank you so much for diving into the development of this device. I was eager to get something like this from you and I honored to have it now and here.
At first, the kernel seems stable. There was quite a big lag at the first start up and it took a while for the WiFi to turn on but it's fine. I can't see any hotplug included in the kernel and SuperSU binaries are outdated. It seems like there isn't also undervolt and underclock included. The GPU idles at 400MHz which isn't quite power efficient. Overall it's good for a start. I also have a question which is for the touchscreen drivers for this phone. No matter the kernel, stock or custom, there are problems with the random shutting down of the touchscreen or going nuts (scrolling and pressing by itself randomly). I'm looking that the logs and it seems like that the cyttsp5 driver isn't functioning properly on the E2303 variant. I've attached dmesg and klog so you can take a look at it. Also, I'm not the only one with this problem, there are much more users in Q&A and on random forums and YouTube.

How does it compare to other kernels?
Does this kernel work with the Pexo rom?
I really REALLY want a kernel that has proper undervolt tables, because I can't stand my phone overheating randomly. Using Skymelon 9, it's alright but brings problems like overheating since it's running at higher frequency and the phone is already semi-snappy and I am not really gaming, since no games work that I like. For instance Shadowverse or Fate Grand Order. First game stutters and audio is distorted, while second game won't launch because phone is rooted.

Mobile data works here. For performance governor fix get the original init.qcom.post-boot.sh and put it in system/etc
@DavidMKD Its shows that mobile data is enabled, but there is no icon for 3g/LTE and every app report that phone is offline when WiFi is OFF. Enabling and disabling of mobile data don't helps.
Which version of M4 you have? Thanks for "performance fix", I will try to find proper file to replace inside system/etc or you can share it?
Edit: I found correct file and replace it and now kernel governor is interactive , only problem with mobile data remain, hopefully @zacharias.maladroit will fix soon.

Okay, updated the OP / first post with clearer instructions to get into Recovery,
LOT of folks are trying to mess with M4 Aqua users by posting WRONG instructions on how to get into fastboot or TWRP/recovery.
I thought I was (or Sony) going crazy with those differing Button combinations from M4 Aqua and Xperia Z5 but it's THE SAME !

Consider it done (take a look at the kernel folder) [ https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BykGGWB96CBQUFhXbG5sRUZMMWM ]
The kernel is still experimental and more of a proof of concept:
The iddd (idd daemon - or close to that name) is crashing and force-closing continually (last time I checked),
thus I renamed and moved it to the internal storage so that the Android/init system deactivates it
Thanks to @dani020110 for pointing at the offending commit that would cause the crashing of the new kernel
Kernel source is at:
https://github.com/zachariasmaladroit/android_kernel_sony_msm8994_kitakami_r2/commits/Nautilus_I.1
@zacharias.maladroit I can't download from your link - message "not found, error 404" appear.
Edit: just download successfully from first page of this topic, as soon is tested will inform you about results, thank you.

Forgot to set the dialer app as default. I'm a dummy. Folowed the directions exactly and used the CSC for my device, the original CSC is probably the same but I wanted to make sure.
