[Q] Samsung s3 Rooting Mistake!HELP PLZ!!? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried rooting my S3 using the guidelines from this forum.. (Option 2: Only root)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955423
Here is d procedure...
Download this CF Auto Root from here http://download.chainfire.eu/264/CF-...3g-gtn7100.zip
and extract it to .tar
Procedure :
1.Open Odin and select PDA tab
2.Point to extracted file CF-Auto-Root-SGN2.tar
3.Now switch off device and reboot in download mode
press Vol down + Home +Power, And then, press Volume UP button in Warning Page to enter the Download Mode
4.Connect device to PC and wait till device successfully added to com port (it will turn light blue)
5.Hit ‘Start’ to flash
6.Once it flashed successfully, you can see 'PASS' in table above the ID :COM, you can disconnect device from PC
7.Reboot device and you will have superSU in application drawer.
Everything worked well..till the last step..
After rebooting, touch panel doesnt work..and Welcome screen shows language selection. First welcome screen used to come in portuguese then later after flashing for 4-5 times,it came in english. But the touch doesnt work.I tried factory restore..but it doesnt work..Phones memory is showing up when connected to computer..Somebody Help me bring my Phone back to life! Thank yu!

Looks like you flashed a file for a galaxy note 2 and not an s3.
You need to be careful and flash the right files to your phone or you could end up with a hard brick.
Have a look at the stickies on how to root.
Oh and make sure you have an international galaxy s3 9300 as that is this forum your in.

you flashed the wrong file (Note II), the process is correct but you need to flash the cf root/auto-root file for the S3 as mentioned! Try it again with it and see if it fixes your issue.

You Might wanna flash a stock firmware in odin first before you try rooting.

Tried CFA autoroot..It flashed well but after rebooting touch panel doesnt work..I cant click on language selection or next or any button..Its jst the same as first

Flash stock rom then factory reset .
Then read the basic faqs and guides before flashing anything or ignore and head straight down the highway to Bricksville .

So there is nothing I can do to make my phone's touch panel work??
One more thing is..when I open the phone in recovery mode(vol up+menu+power buttons) the android logo in the background is showing some X mark smething..So i guess its soft bricked rather than hard-bricked..so is there no way it can work?

One take to a service centre is best as you have a big problem and zero knowledge .
OR
You could try flashing CF Root recovery from development then booting to recovery format cache system data sd card and preload .
Then download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .

If you phone connects to your PC then try completely resetting the phone using Kies
Start Kies, then go to Tools then Firmware Upgrade and Installation, this process will wipe the phone and reinstall the latest firmware, you will need some details from under the phone battery but just follow the on screen instructions.

Flashing stock rom doesn't fail..it jst doesnt improve its condition..Touch doesnt work! Flashing(its showing 'Pass' in Odin) and getting detected by computer works well..
As of changing motherbaord..thats wat I am planning to do after i go to my hometown..till then I want to try and make it work..since the symptoms doesn't imply motherboard damage!

Oh..got it now..
Jst out of curiosity..how does rooting some software destroy hardware?
ANd Cnat I jst change that destroyed part instead of Whole Motherboard>?

No.
You can destroy cpu, gpu by overclocking badly, overvolting, eventually internal card can be corrupted but all those scenario aren't linked to a simple rooting procedure (which is only writing two files on the system partition...).
You need to have a good diagnosis, either the digitizer is dead, or the connection of it on the motherboard. Our the motherboard.
Replacement won't be cheap especially for motherboard.

[Q] No network in phone after flashing via odin

Hi, I am using a galaxy s3 recently purchased from Singapore but had a UK firmware version in it, since i bought it cheap from a local dealer who sells a of these European phones here.
I am not a noob, but not a great developer though, u can put me somewre in the middle. What happened is, i downloaded a S3 firmware and flashed it via ODIN. The silly damn mistake i did was, (seriously, i was outa my mind) i put the file in phone instead of PDA in ODIN.
But wen i flashed it once, i realised i did a mistake and changed the file from phone to PDA and everything went off perfectly. Except now, there was no service in the phone. The SIM was inside and worked perfect with other phones, but no other sim worked in my phone.
I took it to a local repair shop, coz der is no warranty for the phone. Since he is a friend of mine, he has ordered the SIM card Unit and is trying to replace it. Now, during the first day i got the phone i rammed it with a sharp pin when tryin to insert the sim, jus when i was opening it in the shop. It got remedied instantly and after tat the SIM worked fine.
Now after the did the wrong flash, everythin in the phone works except der is no mobile network. Is it because i flashed the file wrongly ? Or is it could be the hardware issue that happened earlier repeating again ?
Thanks for taking ur time to read this and supportin me !
Maybe you can try to reflash stock kernel via odin.

just a little thing: flashing a stock rom on the SGS3 will not perform a factory reset
Just to be sure that all is good: flash stock rom with odin and then make a factory reset in stock recovery
Do not forget to backup your apps and data before doing it
Can u guide me to ?

Easy:
-start in recovery (volume up+home+power)
-select "wipe data/factory reset"
-wait for it to be done
-resart your phone
Just do not forget:
-it will erase your installed apps
-it will erase your contact
-it will wipe your internal storage
-you will have to do the "first start settings " thing (wifi, google account,...) as if your phone was brand new out of the box
So do not forget to backup all things you want to keep

I actually did the same steps as u mentioned above ! Is tat wat u call a full flash ?
-flash your rom with odin (single tar file as PDA and DO NOT check repartition)
-let your phone restart
-shutdown your phone
-follow the step from my previous post
-restart your phone
-do all the "first start settings" stuff
If you still have your issue, post here but at least we will start with a clean base

You need a three part rom to do that but it is not very easy to found them for SGS3
The step I gave you should do the same thing with a single part rom as PDA

[Q] [HELP!] S3 wont even boot

So my S3 went into a boot loop. And I dont know how I got to this point but now the phone wont even boot, when plugged in to my comp it shows the battery symbol but its greyed out with the circle in the middle, and it stays like that. If i hold the power putton it comes up with the Galaxy SIII GT i9300 screen but then goes back to the battery. I can get it to go into download mode though. I think somehow I may have deleted all the files required for the phone to actually boot(Im a n00b so im not completely sure) Can somebody please help me?
I was on custom ROM before and my binary counter is at 4, so sending into samsung doesn't sound like a great idea :/
Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for hours.

If you mean with CWM mod, no I cant, it just shows the Galaxy S3 GT i9300 screen then goes black. Yes i did have a custom kernel, I believe it was the latest Perseus one. I already tried this with a stock rom and it idnt work, it said it had passed but i still can boot the phone.

as you can go into download mode but not recovery, what about flashing CWM another time (if you did not try it already). Maybe it solves the issue with recovery and from there you could go on trying to wipe etc.
Other options would be to do a mega or super wipe (if this is possible from odin & download mode, not sure though), to get your phone completely empty (mega) or at least to factory reset (super).

The thing is there is nothing wrong with my phone in terms of hardware. The problem that I am having is purely software, I think I just need to restore my phone to a previous version. I did see that thread but didnt feel my post belonged there as my problem is nothing to do with broken battery or mobo or anything along those lines. Hence why I am posting here

I did install a stock ROM and it was still stuck on bootloop, left it like that for an hour, still nothing. So I went into CWM (after flashing it) Wiped and factory reset (noticing it said error mounting /data but ignored) and then restored with a backup I had. it did say error mounting /data and so skipped that step. Still stuck in boot loop. now that I try wiping again the same error occurs, error mounting /data any ideas please?

okay? the first thing to do here is just flash a stock ROM, no need for pit files
Mine was stuck before than samsung logo, on the model number screen. Almost 1 second or less after opening the device.
Then i flashed 4.0.4 and magically it opened without any loop or something. Its useless to flash 4.1.2 or any other jb stock rom, for some reason it seems not fixing the loop issue.
Again, there is no problem related with pit files.

It's all individual, what worked for you might not work for others. Don't say that flashing JB is useless, because it's not

Follow the steps to root and flash your custom ROM again as if you just got your phone. The same thing happened to my T999, and it took me 3 tries doing this to finally get back into Recovery.
try to flash in odin stock rom then root use cwm then try to go to recovery..
My cousin's having the same exact issue and we've been unable to find the proper rom. Can anyone please tell me where to get one? I've downloaded some "international" ones but when i try to upload it it keeps telling me failed, i've tried at least 4 or 5 different roms.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!
Phone is:
GT-i9300
using it in the US with StraightTalk in the US (been working like a charm for ~6 months, all of a suddent when into this weird limp mode)
Phone was running jellybean 4.1.1 (through kies) and not rooted
Try several times before giving up. Sometimes it works after when the device feels that you've had enough stress and fear.
I mean the problem is common but it's solved in different ways or different repeats.
But it seems that your problem is a software problem that can be solved.

Now here's the problem... I wiped dalvic cache and did a factory reset, but stupidly wiped the system at the same time.
There is no operating system on the phone at all now and my pc greys out the device when I plug it in.
Odin did recognize the phone, but I couldn't flash a rom to it as it kept getting stuck at 'nand write start' in all versions of odin.
When I try to start in recovery mode (volume up, power and home) I get the green android instead.
I read that it's game over if you can't enter recovery mode.
Have I killed my s3? :crying:
Possible you have damaged the NAND .
wiped the system at the same time>> then you just flash a stock rom via ODIN .
What phone have you what stock did you flash .
You have already posted this why start yet another thread ??

Sorry for the double post, I thought that the first one may have been in the wrong place, it won't happen again.
I never got to flash any stock roms at all because i'm new to all this and I assumed that doing a factory reset was going
to put me back on the stock rom automatically.
That's when I made the mistake of doing the advanced wipe and ticking the system box.
Excuse my ignorance... but is it possible to fix this even if I don't have recovery mode?
Thank you for your help.

Flash stock rom via Odin in download mode .
#
doing a factory reset was going
to put me back on the stock rom automatically. NEVER ever it just restores the last firmware flashed .
i'm new to all this and I assumed that's why we have multiple faqs guides and instructions .

Can you point me in the right direction for the correct stock rom please?
I'm fully aware of the faqs and guides, but I just wish I had read them BEFORE trying to do this!
What shall I do if I cannot get past 'Nand write start' in Odin?

Service centre .

You could try Keis first, if you don't have it install it, start Kies up and then go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Installation and follow the on screen instructions

Unfortunately I don't have recovery mode anymore, volume down takes me to Odin mode and volume up just shows me the green android!
you still got download mode good, just goto samfirmware and download a firmware from there
will he have lost his EFS having formatted his system?

I've read up on it and I see the importance of the EFS now
Am I right to think that if I have lost it, then the phone is pretty much useless?

I tried flashing official rom, but Odin got stuck at 'Nand write start' and Kies wouldn't recognize the phone.
Thanks for your help, but I think it'll have to be the service centre now!

Use Kies intilisation or whatever to chose your device and serial.
If that wont work flash recovery and then use recovery to flash a stock based rom.

[Q] Phone won't turn on how to reset binary code?

Hi,
Is there any way to reset binary code when my phone won't go into boot. My phone won't get past the boot screen and I can only get it to recovery mode - where I can't do anything - or in download mode. I know I need to use Triangle away but when my phone won't boot I can't use the app, so is there any way that I can reset the binary code in another way?
Thanks

flash stock sammy rom through odin and look if it is bootable. how to do it is in general section - stickies
if yes root it and run triangle away (or maybe you won't need it then anymore because its bootable again )

I've been trying a lot of things with odin with different .tar files ex. by using EH03 and atlas 2.2 but Odin stuks at Set partition..

I've been reading a lot of theads but nothing have been successful..

First thanks for all the answers
Well first I rooted the phone with this program: Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit and Odin that worked fine. Then I downloaded CM and Gapps to the sd-card and flashed it trough CWM and that went fine. The phone worked fine and everything was good.. Then months after it started to reboot it self and then one morning, after a reboot, it deleted all my text massages. The next day it wont boot. Some people says that there is someting wrong with my motherboard, but what do you guys think?
I found an article that says that rooting and flashing doesn't void the warrenty (EU) " If it is not possible to revert it stock software any more, it is also not a software-caused defect" and the warrenty is still valid And that's excatly what im experienced.
Thanks

Oh yes it does under Samsung warranty rules .
Fact is better than the fiction of eu and root not voiding warranty as its not a law and Samsung is not the vendor .
Any claim for repair must be made against the vendor .
