[Q] Music on Micro SD not recognized by players - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have lots of music on my micro sd card that the music players won't recognize. It will recognize some of the album's in my music folder but not all of them. The music is in the current playable format, I can even explore to the folders and play each individual song on every player I have and it will play fine, it just won't display all the songs together. I've tried re-scan media apps, deleting all "nomedia" files, clearing all music player caches, all with no success. Can someone please help me? My note 2 is rooted but that's it, no roms or anything, just root privileges so that I can do backups with Titanium Backup.

The media scanner sounds like it's confused for some reason, try clearing data in Settings->Applications->All->Media Storage

I've had people tell me to clear the music player data in the past and it never worked. I've never tried clearing media storage data. I cleared data and now all my music is displayed as it should be! I really appreciate it, I've struggled with this issue as far back as when i had my Galaxy S3 and never figured it out. Many props

Have you tried a different player, to see if the same thing happens?

" I cleared data and now all my music is displayed as it should be!"
Looks like it was fixed.

It did fix that problem but another appeared in its place. Now my music player is saying they're are 2 of every song. Every duplicate song that appears has the same exact file path. In essence, there is really only one song but the player is being two paths to the same song. I tried clearing my media storage again but to no avail.

Install another player. You shouldn't have to jump through these hoops to get it to work.
Or do this for your player:
Clear the data for your player like you did, then uninstall. While probably not necessary, reboot. Then reinstall and you should be good to go. If not then try a different player.

[Q] ics passion music problems

Yes it has but since this is your first post, we'll let it slide.
Go into Manage Apps->Musicplayer and clear cache and data. Reboot and Bam!! there you go.
Also don't forget for the future that your External_sd is now called EMMC just in case you need to direct something to your extsd card like 3rd party music player, camera,...
jyound New
it didnt work now it only shows one song but it still says it cant play the track you requested! am i the one person that had to get the busted samsung vibrant!

This happens to me as well and this is how I solve it.
First, force exit the music player (I use long-press on the back button).
Second go to manage apps > music player > clear data and clear cache
third restart music player and go to settings and refresh music from google music
Give it a little bit. It take mine about 20 minutes to complete the refresh but I have about 16GB of music on my phone.
This should solve it but for good measure, I reboot into recovery, clear cache, clear dalvik, and fix preferences.
Let me know if this helps.
That EMMC threw me off for the longest time. I bounced off a couple ICS ROM's before I realized the external was mounting fine, lol. They should put that in the OP of ICS ROM's
i tried clearing the data and cache and rebooted
i did everything and nothing i even tried to delete all music off of it and putting it back on and it gives me the same message immediately am i cursed?
is there nothing i can do
ive tried all of the above and still nothing is there anything i can do i really like using my phone as a music player its kinda important to me should i just switch to an iphone?
Have you tried another music player?
Install winamp. If it works, then try reinstaling google music.

ive done it all
ive tried win amp and something else and when i tried those it just never played the song and there would be like 6 of the same song and non of them would play
Is the file type .mp3? If so it should play just fine.
Can you play the songs from the file browser? Try using "file explorer" or "root explorer", navigate to the folder that contains the music files and see if it plays from there. Sometimes after a fresh flash I need to do this to get music player to find the rest of my music folders.
Goodluck!
p.s. If you break down and buy an iphone send the vibrant to me dogg!
Try PowerAmp. It doesn't rely on the Android music scan or library. This eliminates the problem with tracks appearing multiple times. It also uses its own codecs and supports more formats.

I agree with the post above!
I had the "cannot play music" issue and tried the clearing of caches etc. nothing worked so I downloaded Power Amp and have been happy ever since.

Making playlists and then transfering them to the phone.

How do you do it besides the tedious process of using the phone's menus? I usually take the .m3u files that I generate with Winamp and dump them with the music folders to my phone. Unfortunately, the Sense music player has always been spotty on detecting new music and playlists in my experience. Is there a way to make the phone rescan for music and playlists?
So no one else uses playlists generated externally?
I moatly use Google Music, and it just pulls them from iTunes.

You can try clearing data of the music app or even try out PowerAmp. It's an awesome music player. I cannot comment on the .m3u files though.
I have a music folder on my sd card which is filed like this: Music-> Artist-> Album->Songs. Seems to keep things organized.

I've been thinking about giving Google Music a try, but I don't like to use any more battery than I have to.

Agreed, PowerAmp is very good, but I'm to stingy to part with five bucks for it until I know whether or not the ICS update will also address the Sense music player's shortcomings. I'm also super-organized about filing music and tagging it, but I rarely make "mixes" and my playlists are basically just discographies, minus the tracks that I don't care for (hence the desire for importing playlists).

[Q] S3 cannot detect ALL my music files

I need help and this has been driving me nuts for the past hour of two. I placed 2 new music albums to my internal SD card (/storage/sdcard0/Music) and for some reason my music player cannot detect them. What I did is I checked the entire Music folder for any .nomedia but there is none. I downloaded a SD scan app and still the same.
The last resort i did is i deleted everything from my music folder and transferred everything again from PC to the S3. Now after doing that, the new albums appeared BUT one of the older albums is not showing! I checked the folder via Root Explorer and MyFiles and the album and songs are in my internal SD card. Like I said in my first statement, these albums/songs are located in just one folder.
Same result if I use the stock music app or a third party app like N7.
I am now frustrated and lost
I am currently using LI8.
Try clearing data in "MediaScanner" in the applications manager, and then rebooting. Give it a little while as it can take a few minutes to scan the entire phone.

Try putting the music somewhere else on your SD, before deleting caches and data... If that doesn't work, you can always just delete the cache of your music player, that usually works, but try not to delete the Media Scanner's Cache, that means it will take longer to boot and get to the launcher...
If you want, you could also just download Google Play Music, it's better than Samsung's Music player (Because Music Player leaves a second out of the music..) and Play Music is much smoother than Sammy's..
Try one of those and if it still doesn't work, do the Media Scanner Cache.
Anyways, hope I could help you!
You can also decrease the scanning times by using the SD watcher mod here:

Thanks! I'll try all the options provided and will let everyone know the results.

System media stuck in Gallery and Music player

So yesterday I had cleared caches and fixed permissions on my phone to fix an issue I was having. When I booted however, none of my pictures or music would show up. I did several reboots and it did not fix it so I downloaded Media Rescan from Play Store to get my media back. It worked, but now I have ringtones in my music player and backgrounds/icons in the gallery. How can I get these out of there?????
Sort folders out on your SD card or internal storage.having them scattered outside their appropriate folders will make them show up in music player, as same for photos.

Music app not showing all of the mp3s in the sdcard

I have downloaded two three songs on my mobile through chrome, then through ES file explorer, i moved those songs to /sdcard/Music/ where rest of my mp3s are.. the problem is that these new songs are not shown in the Music app.. months ago, I had copied songs from my pc to my phone /sdcard/Music/ through ES file explorer.. and they showed up fine..
can anyone help me out with this?
my phone is rooted
ICS 4.0.4
CWM recovery
Seems like this isnt HTC or app related issue
even samsung users are having this sort of issue..
now im loosing my interest in android

yeah i tried it all, but clearing cache didnt work..
i read somewhere that I should fix the permissions through the recovery, but this caused another issue, there is an issue with CWM recovery, on fixing permissions it messes with the permissions of contacts pictures, hence the contact picture wont show up in messages.. so after trying fixing permissions, i got another issue at my disposal, although I did found a solution and fixed the contact picture issue.. but the Music library problem still remained..
I also read that there is a file .nomedia which causes this problem, but removing it didnt do any good either
meanwhile i found twrp released for desire x, and replaced CWM with twrp 2.5(official one, not Yasir's 2.4.3, i didnt know the difference so i just went with the latest one).. and then I fixed the permissions, and I also factory reset my phone.. which erased all of the data, then I copied things back and it all worked fine..
dont know if the factory reset fixed the issue or fixing the permission, as i went to sleep inbetween this whole mess to clear my mind (may be this made it work )
Maybe youre music Player was just rescaning for new Media, it can take a wile for me as i have tons of Files and twice as many folders

na man.. i thought its fixed as after going through what i have stated above, there appeared songs in the music library while i was actually copying songs, so i thought its fine now.. but today when i opened the music app, i found its showing almost half of the songs.. there are about 103 songs, its showing just something around 65..
i found one more thing, that when i open the Music folder in ES File Explorer, then some song icons contain there album art, and these are the only songs which are shown in music app.. there are 7 albums in the Music folder(means seven albums containing around 13 songs each) and 6 songs directly in Music folder.. in Music app, i get 5 albums, in one album there is only 7 songs shown in Music app while there are 14 or 15.. I opened this album on ES file explorer and found that there are only seven songs in that album with album art, this is when i found this.. this is pretty strange, can someone help me with this?
Perhaps unsupported Format, try Manually adding the Media if possible in your music Player (think you can in poweramp)

i can play all the media files in my phone through ES File explorer Media player, and also by Music app (if i navigate to the music file by my file manager and then play it, though by this method it plays as a popup, you cant multitask, its like a preview thing, plays as long as you dont move away from the popup).. but it just dont show up in Music App, because of which i cant listen to half of my music while doing some other work, alternative is to use ES Media Player, but why the hell does Android Native Music App is sucking so bad? if I am supposed to select best app for myself then why it wont let me delete system apps? (after deleting them they get back after restart)

By tagged music, he meant music with right set of id3 tags (in our case, at least name of song), to check if you have tagged music... is player showing name of song, author, album name, or it is "untitled track XYZ"? If it is untitled track, then tag it ffs (untagged music should be illegal), good tool to tag music quickly a precisely is program called musicbrainz picard, just download it somewhere. try manualy search tags in the files that are not showed up in music player...
Every single song is properly tagged

clearing data by going to app settings through app manager solved the issue, i think.. i did this then opened the music app, no songs in its library, then waited for a while just to make sure it isnt searching, and it didnt show any song.. then i opened ES File Explorer went to Music library and noticed that now more songs have album arts, infact noticed some songs getting updated by album art.. then went to music app again and thank god.. all songs are being displayed now..
