Is the device force closing when it starts up and what is the release of the OS?

I've been messing around with my tablet since I rooted it today..
I've made a strange discovery - Starting with the device off, hold volume down, press 5 fingers to the touch screen, and power on. Continue to hold vol. down and your 5 fingers on touch screen. Eventually the screen will brighten as though the os has loaded, but instead it continues to boot - loop.
So my thoughts are, is this a possible lead into an alternate form of recovery?
My advance apologies if this turns out to be a useless glitch in sony software, and I started a Dev thread for nothing, but I'm pretty sure we all want the same things here - hopefully someone finds it useful
Does it really recognize your fingers on the screen or is it just holding the volume down button that is doing it?
Later on I discovered you dontt need the fingers at all, just insome practice runs without them I must have gotten too impatient
ADB works while in this forced bootloop state also
Ok so i booted up with the following:
Holding the volume down throughout boot and powering on.
What i found out was that it booted normally, but one difference i found was that in the corner there was "Safe Mode" written.
I shall continue my investigation. Note that this is on a rooted tablet s.
tjis is not a strange idea because at my asus transformer you enter the stock recovery the same way,the defs flash CWM on top of that recover
I tryed this on my Sony Tablet S NON-ROOTED and i got to the bootloop.

I tried that (Power + Volume Down) as well on my Xperia Tablet S and I got to the Safe mode as well, but I don't know what does it do!!
I see all my apps under installed app but not available under the app drawer and the tablet is as if it it's been factory reset. no widgets or short cuts on the desktop and most settings reset to it default values. Finally I can reboot normally to normal mode with all my settings, app and modifications in place.
I wish some developers can exploit this and make use of it for future development.

Android's Safe Mode allows a tablet or telephone to boot and minimally load the Android operating system without starting any third-party applications, which is useful for trouble shooting or uninstalling misbehaving applications. Android's Safe Mode is similar to Safe Mode in Microsoft Windows.

Accessing the tablet's Safe Mode via the POWER and VOL- buttons works everytime. Similar to accessing the tablet's Recovery Mode, you must continuously press the VOL- button and momentarily press the POWER button to access Safe Mode.

lol guys, why did you necro this thread?
It was only really relevant back in February when we were desperately trying to find a why that might help us find a way to root the Sony Tablet S.
Mission accomplished :good: (by other means that is.. this ended up being quite the dead-end/after repeat attempts I was even getting hit and miss of either nothing would happen or safe mode)
Logcat
Here's the logcat i took from it being in safe mode.....maybe it's of some use to someone somewhere...somehow...

Just bumped this but all well.
I am talking to Sony about the bootloader but they really don't want too just like a completely different company from Sony mobile which does not allow development.

Use init.d to swap internal = sd card ? Is this possible ?
My tablet is soft-bricked, can go to recovery but can't read system and sd card.
But already install init.d before.
I saw someone has the script that can swap internal memory by sd card.
Is it possible that we use that script to replace completely system by sd card?
So that we can run android on sd card ???

I doubt that bootloader will load that.
[Q] Sony Tablet s bootloop and "Android is updating" at every boot after ICS
Hi, forgive my bad english, I searched the forum but couldn't find a similar enough problem, maybe this can interest other users:
My tablet mounted Honecomb 3.2.1 until I had to update to ICS due to some app's compatibility problems. Now the Android version is 4.0.3 (release5a), kernel build 2.6.39.4
I used the Aio tool, followed the instructions, downloaded the update, added root and rescue backdoor, signed, ecc... everything worked well until I rebooted the tablet.
Now every time I reboot, the tablet goes in a bootlop until I press the physical reset button, after that pops up a window that say: "Android is updating" update 0 of 100, 2 of 100 ecc... then ICS loads and I can use it.
This happens at every reboot.
To make it more clear this is what I have to do on every boot:
1) Power on
2) Wait until it goes in bootloop
3) Press the reset button
4) Power on again and wait until "Android is updating" has finished
I've read in other posts that the "updating" problem may be related to Titanium backup, maybe because I restored system apps saved with Honeycomb. For the bootloop instead i couldn't find nothing similar.
P.S. I forgot to add that after every reboot, the desktop icon of the app MAME4droid disappears, only the desktop icon, the app works.

BTW... Thank you condi for all your work. My tablet has life because of you!

Hi, sorry for the late response,
If I do that the device reverts to Honeycomb (but with some features of ICS, such as the clock and system fonts)
Regards
I tried running lagfix (play store, runs TRIM command) on my rooted XTS (stock JB).
It appeared to run halfway (finished the data partition but not cache) then crash. All appeared well until a few hours later when my XTS spontaneously shut down.
Now I'm bootlooped on the sony logo. I cannot for the life of me even enter recovery so I can't ADB, used condi's tool,. reflash stock ROM etc.
Am I boned? ADB does not recognise the device and I can't get into recovery. I'm trying via power off, then vol up + power on, release power on, hold vol up. Also tried with vol down, and vol up+down.

My gut feelings say you've borked your tablet. Seriously, what did you expect would happen with installing something that has a FAQ filled with enough BRICK warnings to choke a great white shark?

I've flashed to hell and back a N1, Moto Atrix, HTC One X, Sony Xperia Z, SG Tab 7, 7.7, a few shanzai chinatabs, and this is the first brick I've created. I guess its also the first time I've created a sitation where I couldn't get back into recovery at least + this is by far the most locked down droid I've ever worked on, I guess without CWM/nandroid etc. I shouldn't have tried anything crazy.
Nevermind, it was 200USD second hand and I got six months out of it, been itching to upgrade to the new N7 anyway, chalk one up to lessons learnt.
EDIT: Surely there is a way to get to the flash and reformat/repartition and reinstall a stock ROM? Or would I need what I think is called a sony JTAG tool I've seen referred to a few times? Stupid proprietary sony vaio team

Completely agree.
Does this app actually brick your device because the reviews on play store are suggesting it serves it's purpose. The reviews are completely positive can't figure what is the problem

Hi people
i recently tried to install a custom JB rom on my Xperia U. This is the rom (Fidelity JB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2164293)
it all installed perfectly, but when i rebooted the system, the device would show sony logo, xperia logo and then the animation for a few seconds and then the device reboots again. this keeps happening endlessly and i am also not able to go into recovery mode. i tried with pressing volume down key and volume up key but not luck. i can't deal with it using flash tool as it needs USB debugger on and i can't switch it on because the rom is not working.
Anyone please help... im getting real frustrated as the device is no use to me till i get the solution...
Thanks in advance.

First you need to turn it off, volume up + power untill you feel 3 consecutive vibrations.
You can then try to enter flash mode, or reboot to recovery.
this could help

Hi,
I encountered the same thing with my device. Press and hold the power button until the screen is off (device is restarting) and press power + volume down button to go into recovery. Perform the data and cache wipes and reboot the device. It should be booting into Android after that.
