Well I guess I dont have much choice but to come back to xda even though I have some issues with the way some things are handled. Well onto the point here. I have ported over the B.A.K.E.D. Black Bean 6 over to the 3d and I am looking for a few people to help out on testing before I release this on the public. Also I am waiting on permission to port this so if you test for me please do not give the links to anyone else till permission has been granted.
I am also working on another rom for the 3vo. Anyone hear of CyanMobile? This is on heck of a feature packed rom. It has cm 7, 9, 10, and 10.1 features all packed into a gingerbread base. There is a port of it for the 3d already but the cameras do not work. I am going to fix the cameras and also port it over to the OG evo.

I'd be happy to help test your Baked BlackBean ROM. I found this version for the Nexus S. Is yours going to be based on 4.2.1 as well?
Is the port of CyanMobile for Evo 3D by sellers86 the one you are planning to fix? I've already done some testing with that.
ramjet73
The baked I have right now is 4.1.2 based because I am not a fan of 4.2. Although that will also be ported later. And yes the cyanmobile I am working on is the same one you are talking about. Camera does not work in either port yet but I have only spent two days on the project so far. I will shoot you a link in a pm in a moment along with known issues.

I have been running one of the Evervolv pre-Alphas for about a week now - All 3 of the ICS builds in the CDMA dev section are usable, you just have to figure out which features you can and can't live without. I love preludedrew's Alpha4, the HW accel makes it so snappy. Honestly I don't miss CM too much (but I will definitely try them out whenever there is a release). Try out one of the other releases - having ICS is sooooo worth it!
I like Joelz port.

I just wish the CM team would pop their heads out every once in a while to let us know that the evo3d is still under development. I'm sure it is, just worries me sometimes. Nobody has really released a stable AOSP rom (or even beta really) yet and the phone has been out for 6+ months.

I agree although this phone is tough for a few different reasons.
1. There are two completely seperate versions GSM vs. CDMA and thats fragmenting the devs.
2. 3D is tough and a first for many
3. GSM kernerl source was f'ed for a long time so that threw development time in the trash
4. The upcoming ICS release has somewhat slowed development because some are just waiting to see what happens with an update. I wouldnt want weeks or months of my hardwork go to waste overnight because of an update to a whole new build by HTC.
With that said i think once ICS does drop it could provide many answers about some of the "under the hood" workings of this device, and development will pick up. As someone said this phone is a real beast under the cover.
None of this is to say that the devs currently working arent doing a great job. some of the stuff i have seen is great and there is a lot being done to get AOSP roms going on this phone. I have seen Development pick up greatly over the last few months. So i look forward to whats in store.

Never getting cm7 because of ICS is just speculation on your part. Regardless, we never got it.
We aren't even officially supported by CM, nobody knows what exactly is going to happen. That's why people should get comfortable with other roms...I can only imagine what this place is gonna look like once cm9 nightlies drop and our phone isn't on the list.
I have no doubt that CM will eventually make it's way to the evo 3d (I do have doubts about the 3d part ever working tho) it's just gonna take a little time. It will be worth it once everything gets rolling.

i just wanted to point out that according to the cyanogenmod website we are officially supported
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-evo-3d
we cant say for sure that the reason cm7 support was dropped was because of ics but it is a pretty good assumption thats the case. im sure once cm9 nightlies drop all our fears will be lifted lol. at least thats what i think but with how quiet the cyanogen team is cant help but begin to doubt them haha at least we have some great alphas to play with for now!

AOKP ROM is amazing.
I had a Droid Incredible before and was a Avid CM7 user. Never liked anything but CM7...
Then I got the GNex and since CM9 isn't really out yet, I had to settle, or so I thought.
AOKP has more features than you could ever imagine. Roman and the other devs do a great job of adding features. They also are active in the forums so if you have a feature request, they normally will add it if possible.
That said, I am not sure I will switch to CM9 when it is officially released for the GNex.
It is based off of the CM9 source, but he modifies it like crazy. Very stable on the GNex.
Yeah, I'm waiting with baited breath for AOKP for my prime. It was ported for my OG EVO & was the only alpha build i didn't ditch within a day in the whole time i've owned the phone. Roman is really on the cutting edge of truly original & helpful tweaks. Shoot, I was only savvy enough to be able to use maybe 2/3 of what he had in there. A power user's wet dream. Plus pink unicorns dripping with butter? C'mon! (You'll just have to check it out if this doesn't make sense)

Just for the record, AOKP is NOT based off the CM9 source. Both are based off the AOSP main source tree. Certain features might be incorporated from one to the other, but that is simply the beauty and benefit of open source.
Roman is definitely following his own vision with AOKP and the results are impressive.
So word is if someone is willing to "maintain" AOKP on the TP it is likely we can get it ported.
I have no idea what that means, but I think it means this:
-Maintaining Thread
-Building and testing new builds
-Bug Fixes
I have little to no idea how to do this, so if anyone is capable then we might be able to get AOKP.

Thought we'd have a thread here for mainly Dev's so we can communicate in one section with the already isolated sections.
Well, I'll start off first:
Does anyone have luck on the following?
- Creating AOSP kernel (GB base)
^ 2.6.35 source is out on htcdev, but kernels are not my expertise. I contacted cayniarb to see if he'd be willing to make one for us.
- Building any AOSP roms? GB/ICS hacks
^ Been trying CyanogenMod 7 unsuccessfully for a few days.
I don't think it's impossible, however given several tries at compiling. Resulting zips just don't boot, probably bootimage/kernel related... Think I have got all the proprietaries pulled and needed files set up by mostly mimicking other MSM8655 builds.
- Direct porting flyer roms to express
^ Something I may try soon if I can't get any progress done on my end. This is probably not very hard, but looking at the Flyer choices there doesn't seem to be a whole lot we are missing out completely on.

I can vouch for this; using any Flyer ROM with the View kernel that matches the version of Android (i.e. GB or HC) WILL work on the View. Namely, LeeDroid's GB ROM with the OC View GB kernel. Although, using the Flyer kernel will cause a bootloop :\
The only thing we are missing out on is an optimized kernel. We wouldn't even need Flyer ports with a "proper" View kernel
I am more interested in getting ICS working right now. I'm working on the final build of CypherROM and from there working on themes and a kernel. My team has been trying to build a kernel based off of leedroid's work for some time, but haven't had any luck.
It looks like a dev just made an alpha AOSP kernel for the flyer, which we can't use of course (for the newbs reading):

The biggest problem is the WiMAX. Doing some research it looks as though we might be able to use HTC "speedy" aosp kernel source. Same processors and gpu. Just need to get a hold of kernel source and comparing def_configs. I have done nothing but kinda look into it. I have built the device folders too. But I knew the kernel was the issue so I wasn't going to compile. And once we get an aosp kernel we can also get a decently functional touch recovery.

@jmztaylor As for the kernel, would you be interested in working with my team to get the stock one working on cypherROM? I don't know enough about kernels to do it myself and unixdood hasn't had any luck building one. Everytime I try to cook it in, or even make it flashable it causes bootloop. Got some good news from tiamat
Sent tiamat a message, got a reply back. There is hope for us, but we need people to jumpstart and kick development back into the Evo View. So, testers needed on irc...
Hey there, your kernels have been a hit with the vivo on the latest ICS rom we have, we built over the IceColdSandwich LorD ClockaN has been working on for the ace.
I was wondering, if you would ever take the time to look into making a few extra kernels for a few spots where development is really sore.
It's with the HTC Flyer / EVO View 4G tablets, as since we don't have any AOSP kernels, no unofficial CyanogenMod with us too.
The chipsets of those tablets uses the same one as other devices.. I don't think the Flyer has a popular chipset (MSM8255T) but the View uses the mecha's MSM8655 only to be clocked at 1.5Ghz instead of 1.0.
If it's not too much to ask, we could really use your help.

The only thing that has been holding me back from working on kernels for the Evo View 4G / Flyer is a lack of testers. the difference in the two processor numbers is not actually related to the processor. The 2 indicates GSM basebands whereas the 6 indicates CDMA bands. I imagine the WiFi-only Flyer is numbered 8055. In any case, to further confuse the numbering/naming scheme here, this chipset is usually referred to as the 7x30 platform. The Thunderbolt, Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire S, Incredible 2, Inredible S, Evo Shift, MyTouch 4G, View/Flyer, Bliss, Merge, Sensation XL, Rhyme, the upcoming One V, and some more I'm missing all use the same platform and should theoretically be easy to merge into my existing code. I only support the first 8, but if I had testers on any of the others, I'd be happy to add them in. The catch there is that I can't make the ROMs for it.
Send me an email or find me on IRC and we can talk more about it.

I guess I should have been more specific....something with little to no issues would be great. Each seem to have their own issues....in the AOKP rom camera isn't working, CM10 has several issues (sound being the main one), and in regards to CM9, I thought I read through a thread that intimated that 4G does not work. Is that something that source built roms will suffer from on the EVO 3D?
Lots of ICS roms with zero issues.
Look in the developement threads.
sudo passwd root
The Nexus is a Google phone with native AOSP. If you want everything to work on an Evo 3D (or most HTC phones) you will probably need to use a ROM that is Sense based.
You might want to look at SOS M which is built on a MeanROM ICS base that is very complete and stable, but largely de-Sensed and has a lot of options to give it the look and feel of AOSP, or even MIUI.
And as someone else already pointed out, in the future "what should I do?" or "how should I do it?" questions belong in the Q&A forum rather than General.
ramjet73
Thanks for pointing me towards the development section, that is helpful. You mind throwing a couple examples at me though? Everything I look at seems to be sense based.
SOS M (cdma) is probably the top sense based rom for the hero. and i'm pretty sure they were first at doing so. it's 100% stable ( you have to use the sense lockscreen tho if you want to see who is calling when your phone is locked) i very much enjoy it
aosp roms usually only have 3g and 2d camera working but you can give sos m a shot, you'll love it trust me
Thanks guys...maybe I'll take SOS M for a spin and see if that does the job for me.
Try 3d Anorexia and PAE .9.5. Those come pretty close to being bugless. Especially 3d Anorexia. Its got working 4g. No 3d of course.

Whoever is responsible for that ROM should really consider giving it another name. If you've ever known anyone with anorexia, there's nothing funny about it.
Sorry, but I'm not going to install a ROM that shows disrespect for a very serious illness.

I'm sure they weren't, but probably at least thought it was a cute name for a lean ROM, which it's not. Many times people (including me) do things that unintentionally offend others and I'm not faulting them for that, just suggesting they change the name to something more appropriate.

That one is my new favorite, camera doesn't work yet along with 4G and 3D. Don't really care about the later two but I do miss my camera. Its an awesome enough ROM IMO to deal without the camera for now. Jelly Bean on our Evo 3Ds is almost like a new phone!
Try King Cobra v1.6. First install Sense and set everything up, then install again using Aroma Installer and select Senseless, and AOSP Components, then select AOSP notification and settings (and DON'T WIPE) and you're good to go with a Bugless (afaik) AOSP ROM.

I was gonna flash it to check it out earlier today, but I'd have to downgrade my hboot apparently, and since I've not done that before, I figured it wasn't worth the trouble when I knew I couldn't stick with CM10 as it is anyway.

This is the main cm 10.1 unofficial port. There are other cm 10.1 ROMs for this phone but those have extra mods and customizations. So there's the complete clean cm 10.1 port, its still being worked on and there a new nightlie update built every 4th night I think. As for bugs you can find in the thread. But the only ones I am concerned about is video tearing and gaming isn't so great but battery life and smoothness is amazing.
