Where is the setting to rename the device ID on a network? I don't like that it comes up as a long name under router and tether info page.
I used to do it on my Inc but can't find it now.

try Settings -> development -> device name.
That's where I thought I remember that setting being, but I don't see it on my device. Is it usually only under custom roms?

Add the following to system/build.prop and reboot the phone:
net.hostname=YOURNEWHOSTNAME
Your router should pick it up. I just tested this and it worked on my WRT400N router.
That's is! Thanks.
Sorry if I was calling it the wrong thing before and confusing people, it was host name I was looking to change. Added that line in the build prop file and rebooted phone and router and it now has a friendly name!

To edit build.prop file, had to download and use "Build Prop Editor" from Google Play (would post link but being a n00b I can't ) as other editing methods would not allow me to save my changes.
Props to alistairs1 for the workaround. :good:

try adding this to your build.prop

leave after the = sign blank to the second one to leave it nulled e.g never time out

Hi,
Sorry for "hacking" this thread, I was wondering whether it is possible to hack a Bluetooth so as to be able to connect two external Bluetooth speakers of different brands (JBL & Ultimate Ears).
Thank you.
I have AN ANDROID GS3 I am looking for some help on build.prop settings. I have spent several hours on the web and here, I have found some setting but not all of them.
I am looking for a full reference or settings for the ro.ril entries, specifically ro.ril.qos.
I have found only three examples but I would like the rest. see below. the reason I am interested in finding these settings is that I am using VOIP and the infamous t-mobile $30 plan. I have also tuned my build.prop with other setting which I may list later after some further testing and additional ro.ri.qos settings.
Here is what is in my build prop, what is blank after the equals sign i believe to either give the default value or no (null) value.
qos (quality of service)
ro.ril.qos.maxpdps=2
ro.ril.qos.traffic.class=14
ro.ril.qos.max.ul=
ro.ril.qos.max.dl=
ro.ril.qos.guarantee.ul=
ro.ril.qos.guarantee.dl=
ro.ril.qos.delivery.order=
ro.ril.qos.max.sdu=
ro.ril.qos.delivery.err.sdu=
ro.ril.qos.transfer.delay=
ro.ril.qos.traffic.priority=3
Thanks very much in advance
I am sure that qos and other tuning setting will make this very stable and worth the effort.

I found this on the AT&T Note 3 forum but used it on my Sprint Note 3 to enable the Mobile Data toggle since it was so conveniently left out.
I take zero credit for this but can confirm it does work at least for the mobile data toggle; I did not attempt to add or remove any other toggles so as always, YMMV.
If you find this useful, please thank the creator of the thread linked below, I'm simply sharing a great find by someone else.
Enjoy!

SO is there a complete list of what other toggles we can add ?

I now have two air plane modes i did it exactly as you described but not one hundred percent in that order now I can't get the other airplane mode to go away and still no Wi-Fi Hot spot
Any ideas?
I've seen it mentioned in a couple of threads, but haven't found a definitive answer or solution yet. Has anyone managed to get a working hotspot hack up and running to bypass the T-Mobile upsell page? The existing method of using SQLite Editor to edit settings.db doesn't seem to work for me. First your phone needs to be rooted, then you need to have ES File Explorer installed on your phone. You can use ES File Explorer to edit the file in the system folder.
1. Open ES File Explorer
2. Pull up the Menu for it (hold down the multitask button for that)
3. Tap on Tools
4. Turn on Root Explorer
5. Tap on Root Explorer on the left side and go to Mount R/W
6. Make sure all of the settings are set to RW, tap OK
7. Up top tap / that should take you to the root of the phone,
Now you should be able to follow the instructions from the previous link i sent you to Jovy's TuT. Make sure to also edit the one above the Tethering APN and enable it to be editable.
When you click on the file it opens it up in read only, you have to hit the menu in the top right corner to edit the file.
Be very careful and only change what he tells you to change. I would make a back up of the file and place it somewhere you know you can find it.
Once you have enabled the APN and saved the file restart your phone. Once you are restarted navigate to where the APN's are. System Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Once you are there click on the top right corner and tap Reset to Default. That should pull down the new settings so you can edit your APN settings.
Then follow these instructions.
Need to change your APN, simply navigate to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Select your T-Mobile APN, and scroll to APN protocol. Change this to IPv4, and then save your APN
I think that covers everything that I did.

Just a heads up, buddy. I flashed TWRP via Odin (from our root thread) and then flashed the Omega v1.2 ROM for the International S5 (there's a thread here for it, I can link you if need be). Hotspot works fine out of the box!
Plus, you can also have the pleasure of saying you tried the first custom ROM for the S5. Everything appears to be working as well, so I'm gonna stick with this. No CIQ, no Knox, Hotspot is a go.... I'm a happy camper now!

Correct. Once you hit your limit on the account they throttle you. I blow through 19GB average a month and the 5GB limit really upsets the Kid in the backseat when all she gets from Netflix on the iPad is <Buffering>
There was a fix with the S3 that avoided the throttle bottleneck.

Make sure to read the instructions for T-Mobile phones on the developers Web page. https://sites.google.com/site/wifitetherrouter/home/device-configuration it works great as long as you are rooted. I use about 120GB a month with 2 AT&T phones tethering off of me at work. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter

First your phone needs to be rooted, and then you need to have ES File Explorer installed on your phone.
7. At the top of ES File Explorer tap / that should take you to the root of the phone,
Now go to System, CSC, and open customer.xml
When you click on the file it opens it up in read only, you have to hit the menu in the top right corner to edit the file.
Be very careful and only change the things below. I would make a back up of the file and place it somewhere you know you can find it. What you are going to change is in bold.
<ProfileName>T-Mobile US LTE</
ProfileName>
<Auth>none</Auth>
<MTUSize>1440</MTUSize>
<Bearer>ps</Bearer>
<Protocol>http</Protocol>
<IpVersion>ipv4</IpVersion> --------------------------- Change to ipv4
<Proxy>
<EnableFlag>off</EnableFlag>

<APN>fast.t-mobile.com</APN>

<NetworkName>T-Mobile</NetworkName>
<Editable>yes</Editable> -------------------Change to yes
<EnableStatus>enable</EnableStatus>
<ProfileName>T-Mobile MMS LTE<

Save the changes and reboot
Once you are restarted navigate to where the APN's are. System Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names. Once you are there click on the top right corner and tap Reset to Default. That should update the APN, you can now go in and verify that under T-Mobile US LTE the APN protocol is now set to ipv4. If the change didn’t pull over you should be able to edit it and change it to ipv4;
These are the Wifi Tether Router Settings from the developer below. Make sure that your WiFi is turned on before you start the app.
For Samsung Galaxy S5 using this config
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKE
No go

You need to install a User Agent add on so you can change it on your computer. I use it all day long on my laptop with out the up sale page popping up.
This is the one i use for Chrome - User-Agent Switcher for Chrome
–user-agent=”Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_3; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16”
