[Q] Restoring app data with reinstall? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi guys,
I'm just wondering if you, when reinstalling an app using your play store account on another device, would it automatically reinstall the app data that you have for that app on your current device?
e.g. you have finished most of Angry Birds on your current phone and will be getting a new phone, but don't want to root or anything to get the same app data on the new phone. So you decide to use your play store account which is the same as your old phone to see if you can install Angry Birds with the same app data.
Is this possible?
And btw, there are no other threads on this and I wasn't sure if the person who answered me about this topic on another thread was sure what I was saying.
Thanks,

No, on most apps your data will be lost, althogh a few apps offer the possibility of storing your progress online.
On your sdcard there is an Android directory. Maybe if you take this and put it on the new sdcard (sdcard/Android), your data wont be lost, but I'm not sure...

No, Google doesn't keep a record of your progress in the apps you've downloaded, so your progress is not restored when you download it again.

[Q] Updating apps from sd card

Is there a way of updating apps i have downloaded onto my sd card ? I have a few installed but cant update them because i did'nt get them from the apps market place
Thanks
SD card has nothing to do with it, they're simply not linked with the market entry. Titanium Backup has an option to fix it called "Market Doctor".
Does this work with any downloaded app and on any phone ?
I have a HTC HD2 windows phone but has been altered to run on android
Thanks
Well, any rooted phone... I've got no idea what it'll do if the device isn't. It has worked with any application I've restored so far, meaning applications that were either free or that I bought.
I've got no idea what it'll do if the app is not in your account... which wouldn't be a good idea to begin with.
Tried the titanium backup ,still cant update apps from sd card ?
Did you do long-press on app, Attach to market (forced) in Titanium?
Done that but it's asking me to pay for the update
That has to be a different issue... if it's in your account, the Market replaces all "Buy" buttons with ones saying "Purchased", no matter whether you actually have it installed. Is it listed under "My Apps" this way?
Where did you get the apps from in the first place?
If you got them from another app store ie. Getjar, Amazon etc. you can only update through that store, even though it may be available on the Android Market.
EDIT: Unless, of course, they're free. Then you can just download the app you want updating from the Market, which will then notify you of future updates.
I downloaded it from a file share torrent. The app itself costs money so was looking to try and upgrade for free .There have been quite a few updates from the one i have downloaded so all the functions wont work , i have the basic things working but not all
In that case let me congratulate you on obtaining a free virus. Hopefully Google is as good at reading logs as they are at reading webpages.

You know that what you're doing is illegal, right?
How can you expect updates for a paid app if you don't pay for it. People have to download it legally, crack it, and upload it to fileshare sites for every single update, so the update process isn't going to be fast.
I suggest you stop stealing and pay for the apps you want.
The actual app i downloded is free ,i am new to all this and only found out after downloading it ,dont think downloading free apps from a share site is illegal
Have a look at an app called Atrackdog. There are 2 versions one of which is to update apps on the SD card. The apps don't have to be from the market as far as I am aware.

[Solved] App from Amazon App Store showing up in Android Market

I have apps that I purchased (or got free for the day) on Amazon App Store, but want to purchase from Android Market. The problem is that the apps show up as purchased in the Market and I cannot purchase them. I have tried force closing the Market, clearing Market cache, installing the app, attaching it to the Market, detach it from the Market, uninstalling the app, rebooting to recovery, wiping cache & dalvik cache, booting back to the system, clearing Market cache again, but it still shows up as purchased.
I even tried emailing Google's support. Their answer was "According to our records, the device you're using isn't supported for use with Android Market at this time."
Granted, when filling out the form, I put shooter as device, but holy crap, they should know these things if they're supporting Android.
I always has that problem with some apps from amazon. I use TIBU and it work 100% of time detach the apps from the market. You need the premiun tibu, go to the app and long press the title it will show a menu with the option to detach from market.

The phone knows you got the app and it thinks you bought it from the market so it attach the apps, with titanium backup you can detach the apps
Yes, I know. That is what I did. It didn't work.
Why does it matter if an app you got from Amazon for free shows up? You got a full version app from Amazon, which also keeps it up to date, so why the need to purchase from Android Market? I dont understand your reasoning.
From what I read, you got a free app of the day from Amazon (for instance, Hungry Shark 3). Since you got it under the free app of the day, you got the full version, no ad app. This would be the same version you would pay for in the Android Market, which seems to be what you want to do...so why would you want to do that? Amazon gives free updates for apps you downloaded...Im just kind of at a lost for why you need to do this. Maybe explain why you want to buy something you got for free.
Also, uninstall it from the Amazon app store and then it should remove it from the Android Market which will allow you to purchase from Android Market instead
Because the time between the Market update and the App Store update can be months, and I did try uninstalling it, several times
Yea, that's true, updates sometimes take a while. Are you uninstalling from Android Market or from Settings -> Applications.

Market page only shows open (or update for some)
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This maybe a more tedious way but you can use titanium backup to detach apps from the android market.
Yeah, I know, that was the first thing I tried
I'm having a hard time following what process has already been done. If you don't want to purchase the app you should be able to get the .apk from your system, temporarily save that somewhere else. Then uninstall from Amazon, clear all data and cache from Amazon. Don't log back in or even open Amazon. Then transfer that.apk back to some folder such as downloads. Install it, use tb to attach it to the market, and you are done. Have you done that? There should be no reason that wouldn't work.
Here's the long process I tried:
FC Market, clear Market cache, install app, attach app to Market using TB Pro, detach app from Market using TB Pro, uninstall app, reboot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache, reboot, clear Market cache again
All this was done while logged out of everything
Yeah, you don't want to do that. The goal is to have the .apk of the full version of the paid app in question, install it, then attach it to the market.

OK, Google support actually helped for once.
If you have apps purchased from another app store, and they are showing up in Android Market as Purchased, and no matter what you do, it stays that way, here's what you do:
GSupport told me to just do a factory reset, which didn't actually work since I run AOSP. I had to reformat & flash the stock ROM. Once done, I just went into the Market and purchased the apps I wanted to, then recovered from nandroid.
I'm curious as to why you would want to get the app for free and then pay for it? Maybe I'm missing something but I have no problems getting an app from amazon for free that would have cost me on the market. The again if I'm missing something I'm sorry.

Two reasons:
1) Amazon App Store updates come WAY after Android Market updates
2) Devs don't get anything from FAOTD on Amazon (what's 70% of $0.00?)
Gotcha now I understand thanks for clearing that up.

[Q] how to fool an application

is it possible to make an application think it is installed from market?
does market app (now play store) keep record of applications installed from market but not directly from an apk or other sources? can that list be manipulated?
No it checks your google account to see if you made the purchase before. All that is done securely. The market will see it as purchased sometimes, but when trying to download google recognizes that you havent really purchased and gives an error. I sort of kno why you asked and you can google how to get what you want. No talk of that here though !

i asked it here to make sure nothing illegal is happening
because xplore (it's free!) suggests you to download it from market if you install the apk
but what about this: you install an app from market, you wipe everything, you install the backup of your (personal!) apk, now if it checks your google account, there is a record of purchase, right?, but xplore realizes it's not from market, i think the way it's doing this is very cool, i want to know how to do it myself
and by the way if you google ( no matter how hard) there is no cracked version of xplore!
i'm gonna think that developers of xplore are some kind of very.... genius?!?!!
and we all know there are a lot of articles about 'how to secure your app against reverse engineering and craking' but if i was in a hurry, which one did you suggest me to read?

Titanium Backup (Menu->Market Tools->Market Doctor may help.
Also, if you install an app from some 3rd party source (but don't link it to the market), you will still see it as "purchased" or "installed" if you search for it (and find it).

Can't establish a reliable data connection

Recently, the Google Play store stopped working for me. It kept saying "No Connection" and the Retry button didn't do anything.
I looked up a few solutions, and none of them worked. Finally, I gave up and reset my device to factory settings.
Now, when I try to set up my account, it sits for a minute and then says "Cant establish a reliable data connection to the server".
What should I do?

By the Android Version I think you probably dont have a custom rom. Now since you don't, the easiest way without spending hours on the internet researching is to call your phone provider's technical service and they'll help you. This is a direct and easier method rather then searching online.

Sorry about that. Well if you didn't root it, you should have your warranty and Samsung would definitely help you.
I wouldn't recommend taking any device back unless you have exerted all the possibilities of a fix. People's time is precise in my opinion.
What you can do is try factory resetting your device, it might of been a issue relating to updating the Google Play (Market) application.
Hope this helps.

Well since you have a Google account, try this. Log into your Google account on the computer. Go to the play store. Go to my apps. And download it from there. I highly doubt this will work because you don't have a connection but its worth a quick shot. Also since you do have root, did you backup your apps via titanium or any other app? You could get all your apps and data back that way.

I tried downloading from my PC, but it didn't work because the account wasn't synced. I was able to get pretty much everything back by using the Aptoide store and downloading the .apk files manually. I don't need an account on the device to use it anymore, so everything's fine.
I came out with a solution for you, but you will need to take a couple of steps to get it completely working.
First thing you need to do, is download a Play Store APK file, and save it onto your device. (Click here to download)
Next step, since you're rooted is finding a Root File Explorer to remove the Play Store file you have installed on your device. ( Try This *Note, haven't tested myself*!! ) )
When it's removed, feel free to install the play store apk from the first step to your device.
Hope this helps, is so, feel free to like.

I would go into settings>apps and see if you can uninstall any upgrades to play store or Google play services. You can actually uninstall all those apps and go on the web browser and download Google pay store to start fresh and then load apps.
You mentioned Titbu which leads me to believe you may have restored versions of the apps which may be outdated and don't work well with lollipop or restored corrupted data.

Thats the funny and dare i say evil thing about this i can go to the playstore online but when i try to install apps NOTHING HAPPENS no app downloading screen nothing nada. I made the titanium backup immedietly after rooting on lollipop. As far as i can tell i cant do anything more. I have unstalled updates to both services and run force stop on both of them still nothing.
I just force stopped and uninstalled updated on google play store and services still nothing. :/
Try wiping data on those apps also you tube uninstall that completely.

How do i go about doing that? Sorry for asking so many questions. When it comest to android Im a total noob at best
Since you said you have titanium backup it's even easier go into Titbu find the App listed under the back up and restore tab. Click on the App then click on wipe data you can actually click to uninstall also within titbu.

So just go to uninstall then restore? Im just making sure since its a system app and i dont want to ruin my phone
Yeah they install them as system apps but you can remove them. Just start with wiping data not uninstalling. Them reboot the phone. If that does not work then uninstall and then re download them starting with play store. Once that's running using play store download the others. One at a time.

Ok im doing that now ill let you know how it goes
Tb has been hung on the restore screen for about 10 minutes now should i just let it keep going???
You should not restore from titbu you should have downloaded a fresh app and installed it starting with the Google play store. But go ahead and reboot the phone.
