So today i felt like restoring a previous nandroid backup i made a year ago. i was on 4.0.4 stock+siyah and wanted to go to jelly bean if im not mistaken (cant remember for sure tho). Thing is i tried to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, but still, i cannot get rid of this bootloop. any ideas ? thanks
PD: id prefer not flashing a stock rom with odin nor restoring back to my other backup if possible
That may be what you'd prefer, but think about it logically given what you've already tried/what hasn't worked. You don't have any other option.
Am confused..
Is the OP trying to restore 4.0.4 or is he already on it?

Since solving the bootloop is more important now, I suggest you do what MistahBungle said..
Flash a stock JB firmware via Odin, then if bootloop is overcome, you can root it and restore your JB backup.

so i've decided to downgrade back to ics as im getting kinda bored with jelly bean. can i safely flash stock ics firmware via mobil odin? as i cant use usb connection as my pc wont detect my device. also i saw in a thread something about a brick problem with 4.0.4. what is all that about and can i flash stock Australia XSA I9100XWLPW ics 4.0.4 from Mobile Odin safely or will i need to flash 4.0.3 and upgrade ota?
Fix your usb problem first. If you dont theres a chance you could be in trouble.
You can flash firmwares directly using Mobile Odin. And brickbug affects stock 4.0.4 firmware with stock kernels.

i have flashed other firmware via mobile odin, was just curious if there was anything i should know about downgrading. also i had a bit of a look but im not sure i understand what it means by brickbug affecting 4.0.4 roms and stock kernels. does that mean it wont work at all with stock 4.0.4 kernel? and do i need to do something extra to use 4.0.4?

Mate, you really need to read a lot more.
Downgrading/upgrading is no different when ur flashing a firmware via Odin/Mobile Odin. And like theunderling said, a working computer connection might save u one day...
As for Brickbug, there are many threads here that will help u out..

ok so after some reading what i understand is that the brickbug only comes about if i wipe with CWM on stock 4.0.4 with stock kernel?
therefore if i have a custom kernel like siyah or use stock recovery to wipe everything should be fine?

Good work!
Brickbug occurs when u wipe with CWM while on a stock kernel on 4.0.4. If u flash a custom 'safe' kernel, no more risk of bricking even if u wipe.

HI,
Galaxy s2 i9100, stuck on "Samsung galaxy S II gt-i9100" screen, unable to get into recovery.
The problem occurred after updating CWM recovery from rom manager.
What can I do?
Should i try flash stock rom via Odin? Download mod still reachable.
Or should i try flash recovery?
comming from wanam 14.1.
any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Which version of Android is Wanam 14?
Since u cannot enter recovery, flash via Odin is ur only option. I don't think flashing a recovery would help..
I have heard many people warn against using ROM Manager with i9100.

Bootloop now. ALl I get is the operator logo then the big S screen.
Trouble is being partially sighted going through all the threads and finding out whats the 'latest' method is now a hard task
I'm trying to find a working CM 9 now to use with ODIN as I can get it to download mode.
Just trying this now

The- Make sure you're running ICS bootloaders lower than LPH: part which seems to have got me to a recovery screen
- SOLVED - (Thanks to immortalneo )
Hello, noob here D:
Here's the story.. I recently got a Galaxy S2 i9100. It's updated to the 4.1.2 thingy.
Tried to root it, used odin and CF-ROOT v5.5 in the process. Odin said it was OK but I got stuck on the yellow triangle.
Found a guide, guide said to install Stock Rom.. so I did. (Stock rom is I9100XWLPU_I9100XXLQ6_I9100XEZLP3_HOME.tar )
Now there's no yellow triangle but it's stuck on the flashy S screen.
I never had a smartphone, and I don't understand most of the words people use here (mainly that 'flash it' thing xD )
I tried to look for a post or anything to solve this but kinda failed..
Help?
What you have is called a 'bootloop' mate.. it can be sorted out.
Which android version do u have now? Its 4.0.4 right? 4.0.4 is subject to risk of eMMC Brickbug.
So, I suggest you download another stock firmware (other than 4.0.4) and flash it via Odin.

U mentioned 4.1.2. You also mentioned flashing stock firmware XWLPU, which is 4.0.4.
Yes, simply download a 4.1.2 firmware for ur region from sammobile.com and flash via Odin.
If it still bootloops, boot to recovery and do a factory reset.

Okay, the problem is solved
After flashing the stock rom, had to wait a little bit at the boot screen but it moved on and now everythings alright.
Thanks for the help
And ofc, added the [solved] thingy
So i rooted my SGS2 on its stock JB rom using Philz touch kernel, made a nandroid backup and then switched over to CM 10.1 which has been running fine.
Question is if i want to switch back to using stock rom with philz do i flash philz first and then restore my backup or can i just run the backup from the CM 10.1 kernel.
If that makes sense.
Big thanks for any help.
you flash stock Rom using odin then root then flash the kernel
Just restore your backup from CMRecovery as you normally would. A nandroid is a snapshot of your phone at the time you take it, so if you restore it your phone will revert to the state it was in when you made the backup (so you'll obviously have to sync your calendar(s)/contacts, etc, etc afterwards).

I want to add a little something too..
The nandroid backup is related to the custom recovery, and not the kernel.
So, u don't need the same kernel that u used to make the nandroid. U just need a similar or compatible custom recovery.

So go completely back to stock then re flash philz and then i can recover my backup with everything setup they way i want.
The outcome i want is to restore back up of my stock rom with philz kernel with everything installed and setup they way i like it.
And if i flash my stock rom using odin it wont produce the yellow triangle and up my counter, until now ive been able to avoid the triangle using philz
thanks for any help

After flashing the kernel and after i get the dorimanx logo the screen would turn black and it won't boot.
i tried the same with different versions of dorimanx kernel and also siyah kernel but they also do not work.
What does the people in the supernexus thread say?

Can you get into recovery? If so, mount your sd card and load another ROM, flash it, don't forget to factory reset, wipe cache, dalvic. Good luck
I did go back to cyanogenmod kernel which is the main kernel for this rom by using a backup.
I still can't use dorimanx kernel.
I need it for the battery life optimizations.
If it won't work i might go to CM rom or aokp, but i don't need all of the customizations they offer.
