Can anyone help me with blocking this update?
I have Updater.apk and all of the VZW apps removed (renamed), as well as otacerts.zip in /system/etc/security . . . I have cleared the cache and rebooted, yet I still get this ****ing popup!
Just delete or rename DmClient.apk under /system/app/ and then reboot the phone. I recommend just renaming it to DmClient.apk.bak so that you can easily turn back on the update if you want to in the future. Also look in /cache/fota for OTAPkg.zip and delete it, this is the downloaded update file

he's already posted it in this forum. And asking permission to post something like a tool that he freely released everywhere is exactly why this community is going to die. All these restrictions are just going to cripple the usefulness of the open mod community.

This is precisely why you are not allowed to post there right away.... If you read the thread and instructions it says that Steve will clearly state if one is needed. If you go through the final pages you can see he clearly states it should not be needed.

You should never have to format the SD card to install or update a ROM. All custom recoveries I know of are capable of wiping the entire /data partition except /data/media (this is where your HOX+ "SD card" is located) when the Factory Reset/Wipe Data option is selected. So I wouldn't worry about that in the future.

Many ROM's are not able to get Google Play Services this package does just that.
Install Google Play Services using CMD (Automated) or manually (by flashing using CWM) (Instructions and files included)!
Installing this fixes the YouTube Sign In problem.
NOTE: After installing, open CMD prompt at root of this package and run:
Code:
adb install GPS.apk
Download
Well, this is still untested.
If this does not work, I will try to fix it.
Not a big deal to fix by the way.
y duos
I was searching for it long time ago, get the apk but all my trials failed to install. Does your package offer extra updating script?
flashed in cwm - com.google.andriod.gsm.apk is in app folder but youtube still asked to install google play services if I want to sign in
also placed gps.apk in app folder manually and youtube still says its not installed when I try to sign in
application not installed if install as normal apk
via CWM
I've installed it via CWM but don't know what to do then??

If you will only use play services for YouTube.
Then use this YouTube app instead.
Same look with the latest app but does not need play services which is a memory hog
Just flash this zip in CWM

I'm using this, it doesn't need Play Services
be sure you mount system first before flashing
or you can extract the zip and push the Youtube.apk in system/app and set permission to rw-r-r

I flashed it and when I rebooted YouTube wasn't there so I must've done something wrong. And now that you've mentioned it, I just flashed it without checking if it was mounted to system haha o.o Alrighty. I'll give it another go and will give my feedback in a bit. Thank you for your reply.
Hey BarJei! Just wanna let you know that I made sure to mount system this time before flashing your YouTube.zip and I was able to sign in without Google Play Services being required. Thank you so much for sharing that! :victory: BTW, Google Play Store says there's an update for the YouTube that I flashed from your .zip. Is it ok to update it or leave it be?
Now to figure out how to get Google Play Store's Error 942 out of my way from downloading certain apps from the Play Store.. -.-

I think Play Services error is related on the acct/uid/0 folder in the phone's root not in the app itself

Telus people , I need a favour. I NEED a system dump of your stock ROM. All I need Is the whole system folder. (Needs to be a proper telus ROM and not an AT&T built ROM) Just do:
Adb pull system system
Zip/far/7z the folder and upload pleeeease
Thanks

You would likely need to give it a day or 2. The tablet just made it to the market and Android 5.0 changes A LOT of things. I assume ChainFire is already working on it.
I am also hearing that 5.0 may require a custom kernel to have full root permissions. If this is the case, we may need to hold off until the Kernel Sources are released.

But I still want root whether it is needed or not.....why, because it is one of the reasons I buy a nexus.
Unfortunately, you still need root to mount a USB-OTG drive. The non-root OTG apps have various quirks. Right now I can't even get videos to play in media player apps directly off a flash drive. I imagine people will eventually find a work-around to that, but you still won't be able to mount them in a way that would work with apps like Mizuu without rooot.
Here's a pic. I'm tempted!
Im also rooted and I just got this OTA. Not sure what it is. probably just some security garbage.

A simple search on Google of exactly what your problem was returns this as the first result. You are not screwed and it is a simple flashable zip file that will save you. For future reference, don't ever take an official update from LG if you value root access or TWRP on your device. Anti-rollback may be right around the corner.
Thanks!!
