[q] root gb 2.3 without unlocking bootloader and without installing custom rom??? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

I have a neo V with ginger bread 2.3 and I want to use root apps
I do not want to update to ice cream sandwich or jelly bean, and I also do not want to unlock my boot loader, and I also do not want a custom rom.
How do I root without updating as all the guides tell me to update to ice cream sandwich.
Thank you in advance

But, I have one more doubt.
Will flashing .42 firmware delete all my app data? (I have .62 firmware)
Because, if it does not delete, then I can flash .42 and then root and then take a nandroid backup

No you don't have to unlock your bootloader in order to flash stock. 42 firmware
Or won't void your warranty if you are worried about that
And you can unroot your phone anytime you want

So today I found that a new update is available for my phone... But my phone is rooted and has changed SystemUI.apk for notification widgets and it uses AdBlocker... so my questions are: are there any major improvements and bug fixes and is it worth it? (because I've heard that 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware can be rooted only with flashing older kernel using the stock ROM). And how do I update it?
I will be thankful for any replies.

Download 0.62 ftf file.Move it to firmware folder in Flash tool.Flash button, flashmode.Select the 0.62 fw.Untick wipe user data, wipe cache.Tick Exclude system, exclude baseband. And flashing will only flash kernel I guess
But 0.62 fw with 0.283 kernel is the best battery saver out there
Can I update from 0.42 rooted neo mt15i (changed systemui.apk) into 0.62 directly from pc companion? (don't care if it will loose root)

Thanks for the heads-up. If I'd go with the update I will lose my status widgets in the pull-down menu and I don't want that. I should probably wait for the ics release then.
Thank you for the info!
I am on .42 too and will try the flashtool update method.

yes, you are on GB,
see the instructions under GB for root,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Sony_Xperia_U
try this also

though rooting ICS can be achieved on locked bootloaders where on GB you may need to unlock it !
update to ICS and root, is what i suggest.

1) Yes you need to, but if you want to root again flash the .42 and do an update over the air (ota updates only on locked bootloader!)
2) Try it without, if you can start it and everything works, it's great :good:
3) Yes you will loose root and you have to root again.
I recommend doing a nandroid backup using cwm first and backing up all apps using Titanium Backup to restore them if you can't keep your data

[Q] Will Zelly Cream rom work on Neo?

Hi, I have a Live With walkman and i use the zelly cream rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155803) and a friend of mine saw it and wanted it. The question is since in the post says that is available to all the 2011 Xperias it should work, but it was posted in the Live with walkman section.
So anyone knows if it will work or not?
So, you asked without searching? Cause if you have searched you would have seen that both neo and Neo v is supported(and all 2011 hdpi devices as you already said)

Downgrading your phone it's possible, just get the desired ftf file with the version you want and flash it with flash tool. Now to install this rom YOU MUST be on ics .587
About the second question, i didn't understand what you meant.
what would be the best display settings on zelly cream to get a good battery backup?

disable als an try to keep screen brightness to a minimum level according to your need
disable crt off animation if you use it
disable screen auto rotation
I use display settings as 'Adapt to lightning conditions' in power saver mode. Still my screen uses almost 60 % of battery. Any suggestions please.

Nope nothing related to drm
Flashtool works on locked or unlocked both without any partiality
You might have messed it up yourself accidentally
There's no reason for stock ics to not get flashed on either locked or unlocked bootloader
