Considering selling this phone, even though it's on contract. Problems listed below:
Top power button becoming less responsive, phone only 3 months old.
Jelly Bean update has been quite terrible in many respects.
Games have graphics glitches; which I managed to eventually resolve.
Death Grip when holding the phone, from 3 bars to loss of signal.
Back cover build quality is terrible.
The death grip issue is the main reason, but its just the cherry on the top.
I will never be buying another HTC product again. Even after reading reviews, I expected a bit more from this device.

You have my blessing, May you enjoy the plasticky/smudgy/finger-print magnet hell of samsung and sony
First that is a mid-range device. And I can say that he work perect with all task that I make...Just jelly bean now i realise that is not so big problem, the phone works very well with ics(Maybe htc make it jb with problem for us to dont want more updates ) .Anyway for the price is good device..And if you ask me - games work just fine...I guess some games are not optimizied for our devicec and thats is not our problem.I love the style of this phone, i love the back , is so beaufitul...I use case ,once i droped on one rocks and nothing! Its still alive and no scratches. If you want go buy samsung ugly plastics bags...I guess they cant be more ugly ,can they ???
PS:When I drop my phone is like i drop my baby
Agree with mefysto. It's like my baby also I have a full leather cover and dropped it once from about a meter height. It's hit two chairs and metal binding of school table on the floor (two scratches on each side right on the edge of display glass) but that's all, I everything working great... In the minute it fell out of my hands I thought I'm screwed it's great phone with awesome design and great performance for this kind of money

Sounds like someone played games in class...
Epic moment when i wanted to play Granny Smith and i didnt mute my phone. It has the worst intro music, like a 50years old classical music. Everybody think that music is my ringtone, even my literature teacher who said that is a beautiful ringtone, but dont play with granny smith on her class modern teacher (L) (maybe 55years old)

Its a great phone with Custom ROM
i dont know from where u got that problem, i used stock rom and have tried all custom ROMs (thanx to all developers) and its working awesome. Presently i am using myONEdx RC4.0 FX+ and its flawless, many many thanx to @ckpv5. Me and my friend got the mob together and he was amazed by speed and beauty of my mob coz he is on stock ROM. i am loving it.... :good:
stock rom is actually already awesome. as long as you know how to tweak it by yourself.
I can only agree with you..Before DX i have low-end Galaxy Ace and i can sadly say it was better smartphone...Loud speaker is horrible...Battery cover qualitty si horrible...Non responsible or hard responsible HW buttons..and i don´t want to buy cover case because i dont want to have DX bigger and taller...But still, HTC is good..When i will have some money, i´ll buy HTC One maybe... I only hope i´ll get JB update soon

Are you kiddin me?! I was also using a low end galaxy Y and it was a really slow phone! The only reason ace is good is that it has good dev support whereas we have small community right now.
yeah, you right...great support at all...best ROMs therefore it was a really good phone...my first real smartphone but also quality of hw (covers, atc) was really good. I have it for 2 years and nothin bad happend...no scratchs, scoring or abrasions i mean it this way, that it was better
Ace1 better than DX, haha probably just kidding.

I'm going to be honest and say my phone is cracked in the top right area of the display. This happened when it fell off of my lap onto the ground. Not a great height. Also have damaged casing above the micro-USB port, but that's no biggie. I love my device, and I know I'll love it more with CyanogenMod

Well I have to say I bought the Xperia S with high hopes it would live up to my past experiences of the Sony brand and the spec list on the Xperia S, however it hasnt really.
I have found it laggy and under-whelming even in normal use and dont get me started on those bottom buttons.
Looking at the spec, I would expect it to be a hell of alot quicker and less laggy than it is. Are these things that will be fixed with an update or is this the best we can expect the device to ever be.
Camera, not that impressed. It is capable of very good shots, but doesnt deal well with light, with areas of a image being washed out due to normal light from sky.
Anyone else considering sending it back / selling it, and buying something else?
I just sold it and decided to wait for a Sony model designed for ICS or with better bottom buttons. I thought the phone had too much Bezel area and length for the screen size. I hope Xperia P buttons are more sensitive. I didn't have long enough to see any performance issues. I seem to love my Arc even more now

I'm thinking of selling mine purely down to the fact ICS is now planned for a late Q2 release which I think is shocking considering this is Sony's flagship device.

I gotta be honest I'm really not sure. I also dunno if i want such a big screen. Stuck the Xperia s back in the box this morning and been using my trusty old iPhone 4 and I kinda prefer the size...but everything high spec at the moment seems to be going the 4 inches route.
I do agree btw what you said about ICS on the XS...it seems to be last in line..though I'm not really sure if it would make an improvement. You happy with yours aside from that?
Im happy with mine xperia s. Im only disappointed with built-in battery ;/
Very happy with the device, no disappointment.
I believe delaying the ICS is the correct decision, rather than rush out a flawed upgrade.
Had mine since release date I have no regrets. I like the build and NXT iface. battery I get just around 30hrs but I am not really a heavy user. Just waiting for the firmware update ICS right now is not a biggie for me. those wanting gs2 good luck to you just remember GS3 ain't that far away. Good luck to the HTC one guys personally I cannot stand sense or TW. Each to their own
XPS still is one of the most beautiful looking Android phone out there. HTC One X looks ugly to my eyes but I just pulled the trigger on it. Should have it next week. I just don't like how HTC phones have that curved edges at four corners of the screen. Decided to give it a chance till I find more details on Xperia P and the capacitive buttons.

I completely agree. This is the best gingerbread device on the market currently and one of the best smart phones currently available.
While lack of ICS for the time being is disappointing. The design, hardware and features more than makes up for that.
People are constantly praising my phone how amazing it looks and feels.
I've even had Nexus owners compliment my phone.
We also have the best screen and camera on the market currently.
You'd have to be crazy to give this phone up.

There's an easy trick to the capacitive buttons.
Instead of pressing the buttons, slide your finger over the area.
Garanteed 100% accuracy everytime.

Touch sensitive buttons never a problem for me, I don't understand how anyone can have problems with them. When I first got the phone it was a bit hit and miss but got used to where I needed to press very quickly. If you have big fingers maybe but otherwise you shouldn't have a problem.
I had the hd2 for two years prior to owning this phone, and I loved it especially as it was easy to root and there are loads of custom roms and tweaks,it was like having a new phone every week.
Xperia S took a bit of getting used to coz I liked sense, still do, but after all the changing of roms it's nice to have everything working out of the box and I wanted a decent camera and video recorder and the one on the xperia is first class.
I'm not totally happy with everything but I haven't been with any phone I've had, the perfect phone doesn't exist, and never will.
I specifically got this for the camera capabilities, any other positives where a bonus.
So overall I'm very happy, but as someone already mentioned, each to there own.

I have had my Xperia S for 3 days now and I enjoy it, much faster and smoother than my X10. The price point on the device was just right, ended up paying $550 taxes in on a buy out (no hardware upgrade to this phone available through my carrier at time of purchase).
No issues with the device at this point, the only thing I didn't like was not receiving any NFC tags in the box; and I find that pocket dust gets into the top space on the phone between the body and screen protector. I am looking at a soft case for the device that will prevent this, had one on my X10 and never had any pocket dust issues.
Overall I really enjoy this phone, the styling is top notch and the build quality is Sony through and through.
Thanks.
Its a good phone.. Its fast and can handle any app or game on android.. Build quality is really nice..
But some devices have got the yellow tint issue so check it out before you buy one..
Check at 50% brightness or less on a white background..

Its a nice device. Pretty soiled and fun to use. Many people will ask about it, at least if you get the white one
Just an advice, buy it from a place that in case there is anything wrong with it you can return, repair or replace it (that goes to all the electronics tho) but I do recommend it very much.
From CA to Sweden is like from Microwave to Fridge. Maybe next trip, we will stop by, I have so much good things about it.
Good luck.

I wonder why people call it outdated phone!!!
if you looked at its hardware, the camera is one of the best (12mp), the screen is one of the best (HD), and it has NFC, just to mention few. tell me one things the xperia s lacks
and if you looked at its software, it is a bit late to the party but its running 4.0.4 (very few phones running this version).
the only thing that might be outdated is the chip ONLY, but with the smooth experience, you won't know that you are using 1 year old chip except from tech sites but not from your phone itself.
the power is not everything, with the xperia s, it is very smooth, while with the more powerful HTC one x, some people suffering some laggyness. well, there is no point of having 1000php truck while 300php porsche will beat it very easily . this doesn't mean I don't want more power, but for the current time, this is just enough for me.

Oh! Another Kiwi! On the internet!
I didn't regret it at all, even though I paid probably a fair bit more than most others to get my hands on mine. It was probably one of the first devices to land here (complete with the yellow screen issue - although mine only turns yellow when the phone heats up. I think some people got screens that stained yellow.)
Got mine at PB, I wanted to play with the phone hands-on before I bought and I figured it'd be a bit of a **** move to go into the store to try it and then buy it somewhere else for cheaper. I had to convince them to sell me their display model. I wanted the black one but they had that one on display, and an unopened white handset... but I wanted the black. I go to PB a lot anyway with electronics purchases for friends and family, so. Loyalty pays off!
They've dropped their price a lot since I snapped up my handset. I paid $950 GST Inc, which was a fair bit more than the Galaxy S II was going for at the time. Early adopter's tax
If you want it on contract with Vodafone, I've been told unofficially that the Xperia S should be available from them very soon.
the only thing I regret is the software! sony really has to do a better job with it's software...
the phone itself is great :victory:
Not one bit. Love it

Worst battery life on smart phone? How many smart phone do u have? And on another note, xs can do fastcharging (provided u have the needed accessories). U got full battery in about 1 hr and 30 minutes.while some new smartphones need bout 3 hours. It even charge faster than my GT540.

Cant agree with the battery life . You can say it average at most but not "bad" .
Capacitive button is very sensitive on stock ICS . Try it .
Every phone will "lag little" it depend hows ur tolerant .
My opinion , best camera among android , clear and crispy screen , nice UI , stable os , multi function . Full statifice espicially on ICS stock .
Only lack of root without unlocking bootloader . Never regret .
Other than less sensitive capacitive bottoms and not satisfying battery life..... No not a single day I regret buying this amazing phone specially now that I updated my phone to ics I noticed an improvement in the sensitive of the capacitive bottoms and also improved the battery life noticeably that with the help of my recent purchase of JuiceDefender
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
These capacitive buttons really sucks.. I'm looking for a patch to enable on-screen buttons, the physical ones are driving me crazy.
You should try a device first if you don't accept having to press the buttons more than once frequently.
I had no improvements on ICS regarding these capacitive buttons.
the only things that would make me regret, are:
The size, because operating it with one hand is not easy (touching top screen) But i think every other comparable phone is big or even bigger than the XPS
The sensitivity of the 3 capacitive buttons, exactly.. suck . and no it's not something you will just get used to, because you will only get used to used it in a different way so it still works... This only should have been a reason to fix before selling. but probably was too late.
but there is probable no better phone yet so.. :good:

well I don't know about others but I am coming from HTC Sensation XE- and trust me if I didn't use the phone at all (or while at night) , my phone could easily give 10 hours for just 1% with a custom rom....whereas in XS I still lose 6% on Ics
and 1 more thing is that...we used to have 100s of roms updated on daily basis so I could change to the rom which suited me / usage.......but here I have hardly seen 5 roms (thanks to krappbel) he is the only who developing usable roms sofar...
Many kernels mods and so on but here u are restricted to your Ics with a poor battery life.....even galaxys3 which released after xs have a couple of roms
I'VE had this phone since day 1 of its UK release, took a little while but development has been pretty constant and in my opinion this is by far the best phone on the market, since buying this phone I've also bought an iPhone 4s (just to stay uptodate with Ios development) and a Samsung galaxy s2 and a galaxy s3, and without a shadow of a doubt, the EVO 3d (taking EVERYTHING into account) is far superior and far more durable than anything out there

I think your forgetting this phone is 3d, and I'm booting 9 roms successfully and I've scored 8225 in antutu, and my phones supports 64gb mem card with full 24hz beats audio
Now name a device that comes close to doing all of that ? I had an s3 (most powerful and feature filled) but that doesn't come close to the EVO 3d in my opinion
High end phones are very powerful, but the power of this, I can do everything or just about everything I need it to. A more powerful phone isn't a need.

I would like to now too! My stock rom ICS gives me pretty low score in benchmarks (Quadrant), a little more then my desire running CM7. Besides from that my battery is turning bad.. fortunate that i have mobile charger with me, and I believe this problem is not exclusive for this model.
What I do like is that even though I have dropped the phone without a case on the ground multiple times, but not a scratch or dent in the case nor the screen! All buttons still work and camera is stills sharp! (My desire has a non functioning volume button and a scratched glass that is in front of the camera).

my phone is battered, my extended battery case has cracks and chips all over it, and the metal framing around the phone is bent away from the phone, ive had it 13 months and must have dropped it a hundred times, but its still got plenty of life left in the old dog yet, i dropped it on a drain, right on the grids, the very first day i got it, before id even got it home, or switched it on, very lucky, but id chipped it and scratched away the black paintwork around the corners, so there was no point taking extra care with it since then lol
Yeah, this phone is really cool compare to my past devices.. I've had Galaxy 9003 and Xperia R800i. Both of it tends to so hot. the durability of the casing is better...
Now, with custom ROM + smartstay apps, I think this evo is better than SGS3 , Considering 3D features that We had

For its gen of phones, the E3D is easily my favorite. Probably a little bias since it was what brought me over from the dark side, the company with a fruit logo. The 3D is fun, even if I don't use it a whole bunch. That said, hopefully HTC makes another 3D phone. I'd like to hold off for the next one.
The insides have held up well, but I've had faulty backplates. Apparently there was an issue with the first run of US phones where the glue was faulty in a few spots. HTC replaced them for free with little hassle though.

Oh come on. Okay, let's be realistic:
What would you realistically need a more powerful phone for? If you're dead-serious about n64-emulation, then I'll give you that. Apart from that literally everything from games to complex apps runs buttery smooth and with jb-roms becoming better and better, this will only improve.
Of course, if you're a die-hard gamer, there may be a market for those fancy quadcore-phones sometime soon, but apart from that, those new devices are only released to keep manufacturers afloat because they NEED to sell x amount of new phones every year, no matter what the software side actually needs to run.

Oh come on. Okay, let's be realistic:
What would you realistically need a more powerful phone for? If you're dead-serious about n64-emulation, then I'll give you that. Apart from that literally everything from games to complex apps runs buttery smooth and with jb-roms becoming better and better, this will only improve.
Of course, if you're a die-hard gamer, there may be a market for those fancy quadcore-phones sometime soon, but apart from that, those new devices are only released to keep manufacturers afloat because they NEED to sell x amount of new phones every year, no matter what the software side actually needs to run.

i think youll find video editing is the most cpu n gpu intensive, i edit a lot of video on my phonee, thanks to androvid pro, also flashing a rom in bootmanager from a rom with a higher oc, the process is faster,
and yeah like you say, in jb, its generally faster than ics anyway
13 months here too. Phone was doing fine, but had some nicks and scratches, but started to get the phantom touch issue. Bought an empty housing here for $45, swapped in the mother board, and now it looks and feels like a new phone. I am extremely happy with it, and will not use my free upgrade on anything right now until something more exciting comes out. The SG3 is the best Sprint phone right now, but not that exciting.
As cool as mobile glasses free 3D is, HTC has stated that this phone sold horribly, but not in the exact words. They already stated that they won't be supporting 3D because of that.

Aside from the infamous battery life drains this phone is still bad ass compared to most phones today. I used to own an iPhone 3 back a couple years ago but really there ios had not really changed all that much now with ios 5 or 6 or whatever is current. Mind you it was great but I love my evo 3d even more. This baby is enhanced to the very limits it will allow with everything tweaked out. I can play most n64 games smooth as hell. PlayStation even better. I wouldn't even think about trading out my evo until they come out with a quad-core evo.

It gets hot, that's true (and kinda strange.... )
The camera isn't that bad (and absolutely enough for the use you're gonna do of it, e.g. posting photos on FB)
If you are looking for similar sized phones you can consider the GSIII Mini, considering the fact that it hasn't got Sense customization, and for a HTC user it can be kinda disappointing (I used to have a Wildfire S, when I bought a Xperia go I was so disappointed of sony customized UI that I replaced it with the Desire X)
Just a thing... please improve your english..

I'd recommend it if you can get it for £180.
However if you're willing to go for a few quid extra I'd go for the GSIII Mini or a little bit more than that you could get a Nexus 4...
As Matyt said, the device gets hot and it gets pretty annoying and unpleasant.
We have received updates for this device, and most users now have a Jelly Bean update.
Moreover our device gets the Linux 3.4 kernel with Jelly Bean meaning we'll be able to run the next few releases of Android on our phone whether it's officially or unofficially.
We have lots of progress on the AOSP ROMs front as well, with CM9 almost fully working and CM10.1 in the works.
In terms of developer support, you can't go wrong with the DX
Thanks for your advice im geting more tempted to get the desire x now do you think there is a way to fix the overheating and do yuou think this could shorten its life?
once i again....
if you dont have too much money and want a nice - cool , fast phone...not in a shoe size...you better buy it!!!!
it gets hot but not in critical points....
for the money you will pay you will get a very good phone
and lately a lot of developers are working on our phone...so we will get jb roms aosp and others..which will make our phone twice faster
from what you ask...this phone suits you!! A LOTTT

thanks for all your help nice to see a bunch of friendy guys who know what there talking about who can give real advice
mine doesnt over heat until i play an intense 3d game. and that happens to all the midrange phones i know of. Its only major compromise is on:
- no front camera
- no digital compass
- no 720p video recording (although playback is possible)
But dont forget the positive things:
- fast processor
- Good camera lens and low light snapshots
- HTC Sense (although lite version)
- Ram is higher
- Screen colour reproduciton is v good. (although not very bright)
- HTC Sense
- JellyBean (Upcoming in some regions - Damn you HTC)
- Light and beautiful design.
I agree with neXus PRIME. I havent had the issue of the phone overheating.
The phone is absolutely amazing in my honest opinion. Except for the front camera and htc full sense. Although i would advice you to check this link regarding the white noise (hiss sound) on some of our Desire X.
But that has never annoyed me at all as i barely noticed it. And after some search on Google, the white noise seems to be a problem or some kind of sacrifice introduced on almost all mobile devices to compensate and even out other weird sounds. I think there is a video regarding this which is on one of the pages on that link thread.
There is nothing else to disregard Desire X as an awesome and handy and comfortable device for those of us keen on getting a quality phone within a budget.
And once again if you want to compensate for all the con points neXus PRIME has first mentioned in the above thread, then by all means buy a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini.
I have come from a Wildfire to the Desire x.
The perfect move.
The DX camera is 10x netter than the Wildfire
I am glad i Made the move.

It important that you are 100% happy with your purchase...my advice go with your heart.
the Desire X is a nice phone has everything that you need and will receive updates for at least 4.X(not sure about official but surely unofficially).
about the heating that can usually happen due to prolonged usage at high frequency of the processor(our default governor is performance hence the reason slow down scaling and rapid fire upscaling).
this can be fixed by moving to interactive governor(better ratio of scaling) or/and changing the scaling governor to conservative.
though this problem might persist if you play games/use apps that have a high processor demand(usually very graphic intensive).
there so my suggestion is to look for a device that has the following points.
1.confirmed jb update(this gives it a better chance of getting 4.x future updates).
2.Strong developer comunity.
3.possible working method for rooting.
4.custom recoveries.
5.good specs vs price ratio.
for me the Desire X ticks all these boxes.
but in the end the choice is yours.
Good Luck,
Dark Passenger
The phone is far better with the JB update, from my own anecdotal experience. I was unhappy with it on ICS. I'm still not impressed with Sense Lite that we were burdend with, and had I known about it at the time I would have opted for another device.
There are many positives about the phone, it is very cheap and it works OK for the price. If I had more money I would go for a Nexus 4 though.
The other reviews above are good, but I'd add in the actual handset is not very comfortable in your hands, especially for extended periods, and the screen feels less responsive than the one on the old Desire (Bravo). It is very plasticy and the back cover feels very cheapo and fragile.
It's a grand Android phone, it costs next to nothing (comparatively) but the performance is fairly low end and there's an air of cheapness to the whole thing. My Nexus 4, GS3 and other devices feel far superior (though to be fair they are). My One X JB update slowed down some fairly basic functionality for me and I really didn't like it after it updated. I've a concern that HTC are rushing software or it is too fragmented for them to release solid ROMs for their devices.
I use the DX as my day to day out and about phone and it works fine for the most part. There's nothign major wrong with it, just a lot of little niggles here and there. Some of which were fixed with JB update!
If you want a very cheap phone for basic surfing, facebook etc and won't be installing any particularly big games you'll be fine with this device.
I went to get the desire X on sataday and was told by the shop that they do not keep them in stock as they are such a bad phone that they nobody wanted them but from what you guys said it sounds like hes talking out of his ass

NEVER trust retailers...
i never do i sent a nice email to there head office saying how there staff ignored evreyone in the shop untill they all waked out then when i came back an hr later the palce was empty and then was told its a rubish phone but you guys on here seem to be loving the thing so im just looking for somewhere elce to buy it from but there isnt any other place i can find that sells it so i may have to bite the bullet and buy it from them
Personally, i hate the phone. I regret buying it everyday. Hell, even my old Galaxy S was a lot better then this piece of crap. Don't recommend buying it.
I find it Amazing that some people take so much effort and time to come onto a forum and talk rubbish.
You can go onto virtually any forum, IPHONE, Galaxy 3 and 4 forums, you will always get people there with problems, mostly user related.
You also get the chops who also go onto the various forums and say this phone is the biggest rubbish just for the kick of it.
To the one who bought this product, surely you dont compare it to Top of the range Galaxy, Sony or Iphone.
Compare apples with apples.
The Desire X fits into its own market, It delivers just what is expected of it . Accept that or buy another phone that will suit your needs.

'Delivers what is expected of it' Yeah because when we spend $300 on a phone we all expect a software update that will break one of the phone's main selling points.

This is not, hate desire x forum. I like dislike a lot of things. But this phone ISN'T crap. I've tested many equally costing devices from others and they can be called crap. Let us all stay on topic. Our frustration with jelly bean update n bugs shouldn't make us so narrow minded so as to neglect all the good things about it.
Peace.
