Hey All just tried flashing CWM to My galaxy player 4.2 using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198444 But now my device comes up with the S2 logo which is what expeceted from what I read on the tutorial. But what I didn't know is that after flashing the kernel my device would no longer be able go into download mode and can only go into CWM recovery which won't let me flash anything. Just says "operation aborted" Although that could be due to the files not being in a ZIP format. I can still use the device as normal but would like to return to stock for warranty purposes.
Any ideas on how to get my Galaxy player to complete stock? Without using Odin as I can no longer enter download mode.
Many thanks

I extracted some filed to my phone now it wont start, so I am trying to install some stock roms with odin, but will this possibly brick it? I have the bell canada version i think.
How else can i fix this?
What do you mean it wont start, does it bootloop, do you see the i9100 logo, a yellow triangle, or will it not turn on at all.
Can you get into CWM recovery or download mode? If you can only get into download mode, odin will work fine, just make sure to flash the proper roms. (If you have the i9100G, Do not flash the i9100 roms and same of the opposite)
successfully installed
I've successfully installed using odin..just use the search button for the steps and procedure of installation.
Factory reset first .

Hi. I have a Galaxy 5 GT-I5503 and tried to update via Kies normally. When rebooting, it appears to stuck at the the glowing logo. The phone has not been rooted since I wanted to update to latest version via Kies first. Since Kies failed, I tried Odin, got the official stock 2.2 Malaysia ROM (June 2011 - thanks SamMobile), flash it and still stuck at glowing logo. I just want the phone back to normal so I can use it as usual.
EDIT:
Recently just tried Odin + Stock, then ClockworkMod via Odin, and then flash a SIGNED .zip (from CyanogenMod 9). The phone boots just fine. Even booting to the lockscreen. Now how to get to stock if Kies misbehave and Odin just make my stock ROM stuck at glowing Samsung logo?
EDIT 2:
Why do I always need to do Odin to access ClockworkMod? Pressing the Volume Up + Center key + Power didnt work. Volume down however, did allow access to download mode, which I loaded ClockworkMod again... Or did I do something wrong? Now using CM9 signed. Toggling the unsigned mode in recovery did work, but in even in unsigned mode, I still cant install anything other than signed .zip. Kinda weird though, why cant I use Odin to just go back to stock? Oh well. I guess for now I'll stick to signed .zip until there are solutions. Maybe going back to CM7 just for stability.

You can only boot recovery from PC or inside your ROM there is no key combination. You can use a terminal in your rom to reboot recovery by typing "su" and pressing enter to get superuser access and then typing "reboot recovery". You can flash stock roms using odin as I've done this, maybe you are using the one package method in which case i would recommend u download the components and do it that way, sometimes people make the mistake of using one package to flash a zip that actually contains the seperate parts that need to be extracted. Hope this helped, and please hit thanks I'm still on zero
Okay. So, using terminal emu on phone, i can get to recovery. No recovery keys I guess. About odin, yes, I used the One Package I downloaded from Sammobiles, tried to unzip it, but cant find the certain files type. Maybe you could help me list what files go into what box in odin.
I don't know about sammobile but i got a stock custom rom from john. it was just stock with a few apps added and was called custom galaxy 5 rom by john. it was a .zip that contained the 4 files needed. You put in the "ops" file as normal and deselect one package. they were all something.something.md5 you put in each file and it checks the md5 hash and yr good. the clues of what file to put where is in the name. the bootloader file, csc, pda or something and the modem file. phone=modem. the pda file is the rom itself.
WARNING: this method will repartition all built in partitions so your rom, bootloader and recovery will be overwriten with stock. you need to reinstall clockworkmod but u can do it there and then when u have odin open.
reflash should repair, worth to try
Hello.
I have a GT-i9305 andI tried the rooting by following the instructions at http://galaxys3root.com/ on my Ubuntu laptop with heimdall.
I managed to install the recovery and also flash the cwm zip. I saw som problems related to /cache/ so I wiped cache and after that I have not been able to get past boot logo. I hav ealso tried flashing a custom rom and doing a factory reset and wipe dalvik cache bu
t it did not help. I have tried Odin and flashing from a .tar.md5 file but it results in FAIL.
I can reach both download mode and recovery but that is all.
Please help, I need my phone.
did you use a i9300 method on your i9305? you've probably killed the phone.
flash a stock ROM via Odin (i9305 one) and factory reset from recovery. if that doesn't help - send it to Samsung.
And this is the i9300 section, you're in the wrong place
Thanks.
I got back to stock. I will try to use the i9305 method.
Mount /sdcard not possible
Wel, I have the same problem.
Samsung SIII International version. After installing a new rom (believe it was "jellybam-v6.1.0_i9300-STABLE.zip") but I am not sure, the phone boots only to the original logo and then the screen goes black. Nothing more.
I can get into recovery mode and download mode so I tried several recovery versions (CWM, TEAMWIN, latest ClockworModRecovery v 6.0.2.8.) and several ROM.
No mater what I install, I get the same results. Boot phone and it hangs after the standard Samsung logo.
I was able to find out "/sdcard" could not be mounted. All the recovery programs I used with the option "mount unmount" reporting the same "/sdcard could not be mount" error.
Formatting /sdcard all so won't work.
I am thinking installing a new kernel but I have some difficulties in finding witch one will work with my phone?
Any suggestions or help is really appreciated b/c I have no idea what to do next.
Samsung I9300
Win 7
Latest USB drivers from Samsung installed
No Kies installed.
Odin3_v3.07 installed.
Using Odin I flashed:
CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar
recovery-cwmtouch-6.0.2.8-GTI9300.tar
recovery-stock-dlj4-GTI9300.tar
recovery-stock-blg9-GTI9300.tar
And a few more.
Due to being unable to acces the phone installing a zip file is not possible. Using "installing a rom from zip, or sdcard" from recovery is not possible.
I tried installing a file using sideload but was not succesfull. I can get the phone in receiving a file from sideload but was unable to send a file from the PC.
Thanx in advance
you have to do a factory reset after flashing a new rom
Did wipe/clear/factory set etc every time just to find the phone goes black after the Samsung logo.
One particular thing: I can see the /sdcard in some recovery programs but can't modify it.
How can I transfer a zip file using Sideload?
I can get into "download a file using Sideload" on my phone but what should I do to get a zip file transferred. Maybe then I can use "install from zip" from a recovery.
Update Problem solved (for me) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162908
I flashed the 9305 firmware from here http://www.samfirmware.com/ in Odin then I was back to stock.
Then I rooted the phone by this instruction.
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...-lte-android411-android412-jellybean-root.htm
I have not tried a custom rom but I think it should work.
I've been trying to find an answer on this forum and on google but I cannot find anyone with a problem similar to mine.
All of a sudden after trying to update CWM, (failed), I cannot go into recovery anymore.
I know the button combinations and have previously done it before but now it just vibrates and displays the Samsung logo.
If I try and use an app to boot into recovery mode it soft bricks the phone I believe (does not boot and I have to get it into download mode to
flash the system.img).
Does this mean that I have no recovery?
Yes. It means you have no recovery. I would suggest flashing TWRP with Odin.
Sent from my SGH-I717D using xda premium
I tried to flash TWRP using Odin but after the Check status, Odin is crashing and force closes. I tried installing CWM but the progress bar seems like it is stuck on 0%.
I'm not quite sure how to fix this. I am trying to install CM10 but this is the first android I have had.
It's rooted but everything is stock. I am not sure if I need a custom kernel also.
Is your phone a Canadian version? There's an extra step needed when you flash a custom recovery.
It's just an American version
try this and flash cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5 with odin if twrp does not work, then download the updated zip from twrp and flash that via recovery. unless u just want to keep cwm touch.
ODIN + CWM Touch or TWRP
Hello everyone. First of all I need to emphasize that I'm currently in an english couse so if you find some mistakes in my writing, you'll know why.
The reason I'm here today asking for your help is that I recently bought a second hand SGS3 and the volume up doesn't work and I want to enjoy my phone the way it has to be enjoyed, so i've been searching how can I reboot the phone into recovery mode via cmd, and I did it, but now I need to know how can i root my phone with the stock recovery, because I can't find nothing that use that stock recovery, all is with odin or a different recovery, I've seen that philz recovery it's installed via stock R or something like that, but I don't know which version to install. I have an S3 I9300 with 4.3
You can use a USB jig to force the phone into download mode and then flash cfautoroot with Odin.
You need download mode to root. Once in download mode you need to flash chainfire autoroot (i9300 version) via odin on a pc, then you can flash an official clockwork recoverymod recovery to your phone via odin. Reboot the phone and your done.

Another way to do this is to flash another OS like CyanogenMod via Odin.
But at first you'll have to convert the CyanogenMod installer zip to a file that can be flashed via Odin. CyanogenMod allows you to reboot to recovery directly from the OS using the reboot menu that's built in.
