Updating radio s-off - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I've been looking through the threads and haven't seen anything similar to the issue I have. I'm running the new meanbean except all my radios, hboot and all that is pretty out dated. Probably the reason why I can't get 4g yet the wife's phone, sitting next to mine, is showing full bars. I have been trying and trying to install any radio update, jewel pack I can find to update my radios. I'm running the latest version of twrp. Everytime I try to install any update pack through twrp it fails. I've even tried older versions, yet newer than mine, and still get the same results. Any help from you guys would be appreciated. Posting was my last resort.

S-OFF your phone then update firmware/radios. The only way to update your firmware while S-ON is to re-lock and take the OTA

Option 1 - Relock and run the 3.15 RUU. Then take the 3.16 OTA then Dev Unlock.
Option 2 - DirtyRacun to get S-OFF and head on over to Captain's thread for flashable that will update your radio, pri, nv, touchpanel etc.
Honestly I would recommend getting S-OFF while it is still available.

You can use FacePalm to S-OFF if you are not already on 3.16

Ok, so I just noticed I wrote s-on, sorry guys I'm s-off. I swear I wrote that originally, I guess not.

Did all that, most of the time I get the bad image message. When it does go through I'll get a blue status bar on the right, will fill up than will say parsing that particular file. After that, the parsing message goes away and that's it, goes back to hboot menu. It apparently never updates because my versions don't change above the menu.
I'm almost wondering if there's a hardware issue which could be causing the updates to not install.

Download this file and place it on the root of your external SD card:
http://d-h.st/mFj
Rename the file PJ75IMG. Some operating systems automatically hide the zip extension so check and make sure (it should appear as PJ75IMG.zip). Once you've done this reboot to the bootloader and update. If you are indeed S-off I can't imagine why it won't work otherwise.

I almost tried this until I read the following ~ I wanted the fixes in the latest OTA:
"Successful in rooting all builds up to 1.13.651.1."
It works for 1.22. It unlocks your phone and installs twrp. You just have to flash chainfires 0.94 superuser to be fully rooted

Yes, S-OFF on hboot 1.15 is a work-in-progress, perhaps with a future Lazy Panda exploit.
I believe the original user's requirement was root and unlocked on the current OTA.
These are HTC phones. You can always use HTC dev as a last resort. We will always have root.
Also, don't accept otas if your rooted or ever plan on rooting.

Believe that s-on with the new hboot restricts u as to what is flashable, ie kernels, splash screens, radios. Whereas the old hboot does not. Why some of us are waiting for s-off on current ota/hboot.

Updating Firmware

I'm on baseband 1.05.11.0606 with s-off, rooted, running MeanROM 4.2. H-boot is 1.12. What would be the best way to update my radios/firmware? I thought I had done this through the pj75img method but I guess something went wrong.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
You're right, just put the PJ75IMG.zip from this thread on your external sd card and then boot into the bootloader. It will auto detect the zip and ask if you want to install update. Just know that once you upgrade you're stuck on that version since downgrading has resulted in bricking for a lot of people.

Best way is flashing the zip if you have s-off, otherwise its a hassle
So I can just download the file and installthe zip using twrp? Or just the use pj... method? Either is fine, would just grab the file without the hboot update.

I don't think firmware can be flashed from recovery. PJ75IMG updates must be flashed by the bootloader.

Ok cool. Thats what I thought, just wanted to be sure. I'll download and give it a try tonight. Any reason why I'd want to downgrade firmware ever? Unless a ROM isn't compatible.
Never attempt to downgrade firmware, it can be done but its more risk then its worth. A lot of people bricked their lte trying to downgrade but that was an hboot problem. Still I don't feel its worth it to downgrade
Thanks. Didn't plan to downgrade but I see the warnings about not doing it so was trying to figure out why someone would have to. I figured that's what led to the discovery that downgrading was a bad thing.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Well there are quite a few phones that have been exploited with a simple downgrade but I guess HTC did something because its pretty much a guaranteed brick. The only reason I could see to downgrade is ROM compatibility but all the ROMs are pretty much caught up and I don't think anyone ever actually managed to prove it was a legitimate fix
Downloaded and just flashed and confirmed its updated. Just wanted to say thanks.

S-off for hboot 2.09

I went s-on since day one after I got bored of stock and have never had any problems Tbh, I almost pity all the poor s-off folks who were too terrified to take the ota All it takes is a couple extra steps to flash anything and its been worth it so far. I preordered so I had plenty of chances to S-Off early on but I don't regret it at all.

Another con is you can't update your firmware unless you relock and take the OTA or hope a recovery flashable zip comes along
So if your hboot was s-off, how is it any different than s-on? You still have to run the RUU to go back to stock then get the OTA right? Or are you talking about some other OTA?

There are Firmware zips available right now for 3.15 that can be flashed in the bootloader but you must be S-OFF to flash them.Just flash and everything is updated except hboot, kernel, and stock recovery.
Flashing those firmwares is the same as taking the OTA except for what I mentioned above

Ugh - took the OTA on an HTCdev unlocked boot loader and now it seems hboot 2.09 locks down the systems (can't update supersu binary, they locked down /system?). Now on viperboy stock rooted rom...
Hopefully they come out with an s-off technique for 2.09, need to be able to "hide" supersu/root binaries on my device...
Any news on s-off for hboot 2.09?
Hi, I'm am a noob, I got the JB update, then decided to root my phone. I am unlocked and rooted. I would like to turn s-off but my hboot is 2.09.
I am trying to flash mean bean and every time it gets to around 25%, my phone reboots. I am using twrp to try flashing it.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or what I need to do?
Thanks again.

Flashable 3.15 firmware for S-ON?

I've read that eventually someone will create a zip file that S-ON people can flash to get the latest firmware? I'm unlocked with S-ON & HBoot 1.19 and the instructions to unlock in the first place was a pain and it sounds just as confusing to get the latest firmware. Dirty raccoon also looks like something ill screw up. Does anyone have an idea on how long this zip of the firmware will become available? Unless its flashing ROMs/themes its outside of my league

I realize it's not a direct answer to your question, but I was in the same position as you until yesterday when I finally created a live DVD of Ubuntu and followed the directions for DirtyRacun to finally get S-OFF on my hboot 1.19. If you follow the steps carefully and take them one at a time, it's really not that bad.
I'm now running rooted Jellybean stock with the latest radio. Good luck to you.

As far as I know you need full write access to nand memory to be able to flash any firmware. Dirty Racun isn't too hard to run successfully
If you are s-on you have to relock your bootloader then take the OTA to update firmware. After you take the ota you can unlock your bootloader again. Although it is highly recommended to s-off because there's no telling how long it could take to get s-off for the new hboot.

Gaining S-OFF after .11 OTA update

Trying to use revone to get back to s-off after installing the new OTA update but I'm getting an error.

Specifically, I'm getting error -6. Anyone successfully gain s-off after the new update?
